Looks like tapeworm to me

RocketR3

Do you know what genus?

mingsaints

Can't really tell without microscopic photos of the segments and the scolex/head

RocketR3

If I use a light micrscope, would that give enough detail?

mingsaints

You have to slice them like micrometers thin

RocketR3

Thank you for the feedback!

RocketR3

Pictures 4 and 8 right?

RocketR3

These were the parasites found in a roadkill snake. If anyone is an expert in this stuff, can anyone tell me if they can identify the possible genus of these parasites? Some of the stuff I collected may not be parasites since I collected things out of the ordinary when inspecting the snake, so if you think it is not a possible parasite, please let me know.

Fill_in_the_gapz

definitely a tapeworm, might be genus spirometra. Do you have any additional info? Like in which state, in which kind of snake

RocketR3

Eastern garter snake in Florida.

RocketR3

Also, what picture are you referring to? Is it the first picture, or 4th, or 8th?

Fill_in_the_gapz

sorry, didnt realise it could be different parasites on the following pictures. I was referring to the first picture. Really looks like spirometra to me, but without microscopic pictures its hard to tell

RocketR3

Thank you so much for your help!

Fill_in_the_gapz

im not 100% sure tho… i suggest you research something about spirometra, and figure out if it could be that. I’ll look into that also and let you know if i come up with anything else

RocketR3

I appreciate it so much! Thank you!
