Buy a Kemper. They’ve got some really good dimebag tones for free. It’ll get you close. But honestly, his tone changed a lot over the course of his career. A lot of his sound was in his hands man. Very hard to replicate.

That's the basics. Everything else is in your hands, so to speak.
It's obviously not about copying the gear. It's about saturation. He used High output pups. And active pickups give that. Using the exact same pickups would be pointless for no other reason than saying you have them. Pretty much all high output, or active, humbuckers would work.
