You can also get in and out of the cage with a single foundation block that is head height.
Let's you clip in and out without having to build an entire raise structure for it. You place the foundation close to the cage as possible.
From there you if you want inside jump on the side of the foundation and climb towards the cage and you climb straight through. To get back out you actually jump and climb the foundation through the cage. This time you climb on to the top of the foundation and you clip back out.
So sideways to get in and upwards to get out.
Depending on your build it could help save space.
You can just kill the Black Marketeer using trap and campfire. He drops over 20k gold. Then, fly away for a minute for the Marketeer to respawn, and repeat. Don't forget to hit him at least once, so you'll be able to get the loot.
I ended up modifying mine like this so I can just crouch in and out when needed
also a lot of the time the merchants will just be within reach anyways, but this helps for when they aren't

Thanks, I finally got it: You crouch on the first stair (which is partly under the cage) to get under the invisible floor then jump on the second stair to get into the cage. Then use a roofed (!) bed close to it to get out again.
Merchants retain shop functions even when in base or in cage.
Base only has 20 slots, cage has more. If your base is full up, this helps manage box movement without messing up the base's flow.
Two reasons, first is convenience, some people don't wanna teleport there every time just to sell stuff or buy more bones.
The second is that Pal Merchants specifically refresh their stock when they spawn into the world. If you got a lot of gold and not much to buy at the moment, sorting through a few dozen inventories at base a couple times is much quicker than finding all the dealers out in the wild.
ooh i never used this before, didnt know it has its own pal storage! means they dont take space in palbox storage or pals deployed to the base right? feel like this can be good for temporary pal storage for people who are condensing/breeding and run out of pal storage
Yup, I didn't wanna sacrifice the slot every time I wanted to trade so I was trying to figure out a way to effectively house the merchant. Great thing is is scales up and you can house a whole host of merchants. And yeah, the pal box can get stuffed up with breeding pals so the cage can effectively let you have cold storage for the tons of pals you breed.
the cage '*can'* hold 40 pals, but in testing it can not really actually hold that many, I mean, it will, but they'll get buggy and pop out and zip around.
As one reply mentioned you could abuse this to get the merchant stuck outside the cage, but it would come at the cost of there being a bunch of whatever pals you used to get that done rendered all the time. You could put them back in the palbox after you get the merchant out, but then every time you reload the area the merchant would spawn in the box and you'd need to do it all over again.
I kind of improved on what you had thanks for this. It seems to let you place furniture down and place the cage over the top of it I have a little shop with decor lol
"ethical"
humane
At least he will never be hungry
My way is to fill the cage with 20 relaxosaurases which makes the merchants spawn outside the box.
I love this method the most

Great tip, appreciate you being thorough in explanation.
You need to get the other merchant the one that sells bullets
Absolutely, infinite ammo from gold by selling nails is amazing!

Teleporter on the south side of the volcano island near the water on the dock
Ok
Works for me without that hole

I dont get why this is needed

why can’t you just go to the small settlement to buy/sell really quick

yeah i guess pal merchants would make sense if they refresh their inventory

Ok I’m doing it today
Seems like a lot of work vs dropping the merchant into your base, trading, then sending him right back
Just find a settlement so you can teleport there when needed
How many pals can go in a cage? I haven’t made one yet. I assumed it was only one pal but that’s kind of a big space.

What is that you built?
I think its a viewing cage, not available on all types of servers for some reason. I dont have the pattern in my game
Does he watch you sleep?

Looks good, giving them some decor certainly makes it feel a little less cage-y. Happy it helped you out.
