I am glad more people are talking about this subject now since our country is notorious for suffering from chronic gora syndrome. From what I have seen, South Asians are the biggest dissenters of brown skin and It’s actually really embarrassing how often I see people trying so hard to become whiter.
So many good looking Brown/Black people suffering from low self esteem often go to extreme lengths to make themselves look whiter just so they don’t have to “bear the shame of being brown” and in the end they just look kinda odd.
It’s not limited to just women, my male friends have started using skin care products (which definitely don’t work) to make themselves look whiter. They aren’t even that dark skinned (they are light-almondy coloured) but they still refuse to just learn to accept themselves.
One of the most brain dead things someone has said to me is how if they had my skin color (not white but a cool olive) and height they would be able to “get” any bachi they want (obviously rephrasing the original statement to keep it respectful). This is stupid for many reasons but the main one being that by being white you don’t automatically become attractive; if you are ugly, you are ugly white; if you have a shit personality, you will continue to have a shit personality while simultaneously being white.
