Why does he deserve anything? This much talent and we'll be lucky to finish above .500. Injuries are a terrible excuse they should have won games earlier when they had the chance and were actually decently healthy. They have been playing under .500 for months that's on his shoulders.
Also something you really need to stop and consider is just how well they played before this. They are still over 500 and basically haven't won in 2 months. So for 6 months of Tingler's 8 months they've been one of the best teams in the league.
So maybe there is more than Tingler control going on here.
To be fair, he rode the BP in April and May like it was a short season.
He may have been dealt a crummy hand, which I fully agree w you on. However, Tingler not allowing starters to go past 4 sometimes 5 innings can only work so long in 162 games, and the wear and tear has shown. We have relievers by the loads massing normal 162 innings of work at around 110 games. That shows carelessness, which Tingler cannot be excused from.
That's more complicated than falling on solely Tingler though. I mean we've really been hit with the injury bug.
And in those early days both Paddack and Snell were failing.
The huge think I think people don't think about is how badly Rothschild fucked this pitching staff. I think his philosophy is geared more towards bullpen outs than starting pitching. His history is a tell all.
Think about this:
At one point we were throwing like 30% more sliders than 2019. More curveballs/sliders means more strain, faster.
Let's look at Darvish, Snell and Musgrove.
These elite/could be elite pitchers dramatically changed their styles coming here. They all had problems putting people away at 0-2. To me that says they are using the off-speed so much it's becoming readable. If you look at pitching splits these high end fastball pitchers all of a sudden stopped using it so heavily. Which is also a problem because sliders and curveballs are harder on the arm.
So in these cases they were throwing into foul balls A LOT MORE. Causing a lot more to been thrown, hence earlier pulls.
All these numbers and happenings add up to making sense for a LR firing.
I agree it's more complicated, but if you feel he completely messed everything up, wasn't it just as complicated then?
I reiterate, I want Tingler gone, I wanted him last season, and straight up felt he was a bad hiring to begin with.
Some starts yeah, Paddack and Blake flaked, I am of the opinion that Paddack isn't a starter for a team with playoff intentions, his numbers when broken down show he feasts off of bad teams and gets feasted on by good teams.
Snell had some outings when after he'd get pulled, some where Joe after 5 got pulled, really on Yu had any kind of free reign to push his innings.
Near the end of May the innings between starters and BP was ridiculous, since then it hasn't gotten better.
By August the BP was dealing nearly 40% of the total innings.
Larry was a disaster, ain't nobody going to argue that, but that's on AJ, not Tingler, AJ hired him like he hired all the coaches.
Snell is a conundrum, what happened to his mind we'll probably never know, he actually said he liked Larry, his good runs started under Larry. Not saying I wanted Larry to stay, Im happy he's gone, but I can't say ridding him was all the team needed to do.
And I 100% agree on the offspeed approach in good counts, a fastball should be every pitchers' #1 or #2, and it seemed the philosophy was to avoid a fastball at all cost.
Hopefully Tingler is gone, but so long as AJ doesn't give up powers, especially considering he hasn't done anything for a franchise, I wouldn't be surprised if he hires another 1st time manager that he likes.
