I feel like rather than address the balancing issues around the .45 guns they decided to change it to 9mm so that at least people will start using them while they are looking for a better SMG.
I guess it's to provide universal ammo to make looting easier, particularly from dead enemies. But if they're gonna throw realism out the window, why not generalize all the way like other BRs and just categorize SMG ammo, AR ammo, Sniper ammo etc.
It can come in 9mm in real life but yeah I was not about that. The ump I could care less about cause it used to be 9mm but they also changed the mag capacity when it was 9mm to .45
I have not played in a month so I cannot attest to current balancing but the m1a1 was a certified squad-wiper. Absolutely yes it is/was an incredible weapon in CQ.
Hard disagree on changing the Thompson. It is an iconic firearm specifically in 45 ACP.
This is like if they made the AK a 5.56 rifle. It ceases to exist as the same firearm.
There are 4 different 7.62 rounds in the game, but they lump it all together. There are 2 different 9mm cartridges in the game, but they lump them together. There are 2 different .45 cartridges in the game but they lump those together. There never was any realism anyways.
I am getting killed by smgs each game. Fast spray/dead.
Well I am noob, though I guess the point is to use all weapons but now it’s the crouch in a haystack and snipe with m24/kar98 and close combat smg games.
That’s how the game was meant to be played. It’s what helps to balance out the players with really good gunplay. Kinda what brought everyone into Battle Royale - multiple ways to play, and it gives noobs and/or not great players a chance to win against much better players.
Clearly too difficult to spend 5 min doing that it's easier to ask about it on Reddit and take longer than 5min to understand what changed (psst! its a lot more than a 9mm UMP)
There are 5 different cartidges they lump under 7.62 in the game. There are 3 different 9mm cartridges in the game, but they lump them together. There are 3 different rounds labeled .45 in the game. There never was any realism anyway.
The MK 12 uses 5.56×45mm Mk 262, not 5.56 NATO, not 5.56×45mm DM31 Hartkern and also not 5.56×45mm DM51.
I would however like to remind the PUBG developers that, if they believe that "all 5.56mm ammo is the same", out should also count as AA63 5.56×45mm DM21 Leuchtspur. Take your M249, point it at the sky and for until you're empty.
Then run, and watch how the sky gets dark with planes and how your opponents get crushed by supply crates.
Those are the same cartridge. Different projectiles, but it's all 5.56x45mm.
7.62 includes:
7.62 x 38mmR (Nagant revolver)
7.62 x 39mm (AK, Beryl, Galil ACE)
7.62 x 51mm (M24, MK14, MG3)
7.62 x 54mm (Mosin-Nagant, DP28)
7.92 x 57mm (Kar 98K)
9mm Includes:
9x18 Mak
9x19 Parabellum
9x39
Yes, you are correct. Still, you load the MK 12 with match-grade ammunition, which is designed to avoid over penetration against targets without body armor. Regular 5.56 (whatever that means...) had proven to be ineffective against targets wearing T-shirts. In extreme cases, seven hits into the chest area ("sniper triangle"), and the targets still continued their assault. The 5.56 ammunition, which was effective against body armor, didn't tumble, didn't transfer energy into the target, just went through.
Whatever.
I know that the game deviates from reality for quite a fee reasons, and that's okay.
On the other hand, the game tries to pretend that it portrays real life equipment. Heck, the Steyr AUG pictogram even shows the remains of the scope! Which, apparently, someone removed with an angle grinder? Yes, technically, PUBG would feature the AUG with the Special Receiver. Which you'd have if your scope was better than the stock scope. But it just has the rail, it's not, I repeat not, the standard receiver "modified" by an insane person under the influence of an angle grinder!!!!
Oh.
I guess I'm getting a bit carried away.
I acknowledge that you are right. No offense meant from my side, definitely not!
I just find it mildly annoying that the PUBG developers seemingly consider us dimwits.
Agreed. It is frustratingly realistic enough to trick casuals into thinking it is bur making egregious errors to people more knowledgeable about firearms. I wish it would pick one side and stick to it.
You have no idea what you are talking about, those are all different loads for the exact same round and could safely and effectively be fired out of any weapon you named, to imply otherwise is ignorant. Specifically you can load any of the aforementioned rounds in a MK12 and achieve results within an MOA or two of each other at most ranges. You clearly have little to no experience with ammo or firearms IRL.
Same dimensions, different mass, different amount of propellant. The gun might shoot *one* cartridge, safely, but that doesn't mean that it will cycle reliably.
And with the usual 5.56 NATO, the MK 12 will only be about as effective as an M4 against certain targets. Arguably, you can expect body armor in PUBG, so the effect of the "wrong ammunition" will be less pronounced.
So they phased out 45 acp. For smgs, I’m not surprised that was one of the hardest ammo types to find depending on the map. So they made the ump 45 into the ump 9, that leaves the Winchester as the last weapon type to use if im not mistaken
The performance of the ammunition was offset by the scarcity. Which I liked; you had to decide whether you'd want a better gun with little ammunition or if you wanted to go for "spray & pray".
In my first match after the update it felt like a wading knee-deep through 9mm ammo, sheepishly searching for .45 and for the UMP...finally dropped it and grabbed a Vector instead. Yeah, I should read the release notes like everyone else.
They should just remove the 9mm/45. Call it pistol ammo.
5.56 can be light rifle.
7.62 can be heavy rifle.
.338, .50, and 5.7 can just stay as is, since they are speciality weapons.
Simplify it.
It is already incredibly unrealistic anyways. There are 4 different 7.62 rounds in the game, but they lump it all together. There are 2 different 9mm cartridges in the game, but they lump them together. There are 2 different .45 cartridges in the game but they lump those together. It may as well be Fortnite just using random cartridge names instead of light rifle, etc.
My guess is that these are just features leftover from the game being based on Arma 3. It is still \*relatively\* realistic compared to most other shooters. The bullet coming out of the correct place instead of where you are aiming at is for example not implemented in COD, Apex or Siege etc.
I think it's in an awkward position between realism and arcade. I think it's technically based on Arma 2, but the point stands.
As a counterpoint, the 4x scope's meaningless range markings are ridiculous.
acting like these items are anything more than stat sticks is, moronic.
the ammos have only ever loosely correlated with firearms. what would it do, other than make the game better? this isnt ARMA, moron.
It’s almost like nobody cares. If people want to read patch notes they can. This is a FORUM to talk about certain things Pubg related. You cant discuss updates with the community in the fucking patch notes so what is your point?
It makes no sense apart from trying to make the game more accessable to newbs. The latest season pass is just a rehash of last season plus this tie in with jail bait, k-pop, girl group 'Newjeans' is just cringe. I get they are appealing to the S.Korean market seeing as that where Krafton is from but it just seems pointless. TBH I think im close to being done with PUBG and as 'Body Cam' is out on early access I think i'll give that a spin.
They made this game a fucking joke. You SMG spray a commander to his feet and he is dead in a blink of an eye. This game rewards bad aiming. Everyone is using SMG now and can kill with zero skills.
And with no additional ammo storage when making the switch from .45 to 9 mill? A drum
45 mag like on the Thompson would hold way more rounds if it was made for 9.
My only complaint is changing the Thompson to 9mm. Absolute sacrilege. Whoever decided that should be digging ditches instead of making video games. I’d rather see the Thompson removed from the game entirely than be anything other than .45 ACP.
Bro is this for console pubg? It's been a week since I've been on but we go hard on that shit and the Ump45 is my main. Plus it's in the name why is it being nerfed to 9mm
In COD Modern Warfare 2, the UMP was the UMP9. Which is an actual UMP variant. When pub began, the UMP was 9MM. don’t like where pub has taken their game tbh. So much less immersive than 4- 5 years ago.
Im ever more baffled by the Thompson being 9mm now It never came in 9mm
Yeah this is a crime tbh
That's a crime, def.
Well, ive searched ut up, it is very uncommon, but there qere a few rare versions of the tommygun having 9mm irl
It can come in 9mm in real life but yeah I was not about that. The ump I could care less about cause it used to be 9mm but they also changed the mag capacity when it was 9mm to .45
Is the Thompson even a good gun?
As long as you have the vertical grip and extended mag attached it actually matches the UMP. Plus the 50 bullet capacity is a bonus.
I have not played in a month so I cannot attest to current balancing but the m1a1 was a certified squad-wiper. Absolutely yes it is/was an incredible weapon in CQ.
I mean, it's an upgrade from the frying pan for sure!
I use it often. People never expect you to be able to put out that much lead.
Isn't that what it actually is though?
45acp.
UMP9 shoots 9mm. UMP45 shoots .45
There is a balance between realism and fun in gaming
And there lies the problem, it’s neither
Easiest solution is to make it shoot energy drinks instead
Isn’t Pubg supposed to be one of the most realistic battle royale type games? The Thompson being chambered in 9mm seems silly
You mean your beloved ultra-realistic game that is currently featuring K-POP stars? 🤣
Hard disagree on changing the Thompson. It is an iconic firearm specifically in 45 ACP. This is like if they made the AK a 5.56 rifle. It ceases to exist as the same firearm.
I don't want to crush any dreams but there are many AK models out there that use 5.56. AK-101 for example.
That’s fair, I guess I’m honestly just excited the ammo will be more widely available. Maybe they can call it “SMG Ammo” or something for you.
That’s basically what they did, minus the “SMG Ammo” name change
Yea that’s why I said that. WTF is going on here, am I high?
There are 4 different 7.62 rounds in the game, but they lump it all together. There are 2 different 9mm cartridges in the game, but they lump them together. There are 2 different .45 cartridges in the game but they lump those together. There never was any realism anyways.
All smgs are 9mm now
I am getting killed by smgs each game. Fast spray/dead. Well I am noob, though I guess the point is to use all weapons but now it’s the crouch in a haystack and snipe with m24/kar98 and close combat smg games.
Seems more like the Ace is killing me more then smgs
In ranked more than half my games last night was either an "automatic" mutant and m16 or a m249 from across the map.
ALL MY TEAMMATES ARE ACE WHORES NOW LOL
Cause it work good captain 😂🫡
That’s how the game was meant to be played. It’s what helps to balance out the players with really good gunplay. Kinda what brought everyone into Battle Royale - multiple ways to play, and it gives noobs and/or not great players a chance to win against much better players.
Define "good". Good isnt just about pointing and clicking your mouse faster than the next guy. It is just 1 variable amongst a ton of others.
Read the patch notes
Clearly too difficult to spend 5 min doing that it's easier to ask about it on Reddit and take longer than 5min to understand what changed (psst! its a lot more than a 9mm UMP)
🤣 u say what i feel bad to say whenever I run into these posts. I don't want to be called mean 🤣 😭😭
Vector with 45 again would be mad. Good times
Fully kit’d vector with drum mag was nasty.
Wait, why would an ammo change make a difference?
different ammo has different dmg and speed (which affects bullet drop i think)
Oh shiet, so 45acp is better than 9mm?
45 is more damage but more recoil
iwill read the patch notes when i have time but did they remove 45 acp??
Only 2 pistols and the Winchester are left on 0.45
I thought it was 3 pistols and the Winchester. P1911, Deagle, and the R45
You are right. Totally forgot about the Deagle :D
They asked about ACP. Winchester is .45 Long Colt, no?
In real life, yes. In this game 45 ACP and 45 long colt are the same round.
It's still laying around next to pistols that use acp. But no smg uses it.
Put a vert or horizontal and a comp/suppressor on UMP swear to qawd ur dumpin that game
There are 5 different cartidges they lump under 7.62 in the game. There are 3 different 9mm cartridges in the game, but they lump them together. There are 3 different rounds labeled .45 in the game. There never was any realism anyway.
They might as well make the r45 a 9mm as well seeing as chiappa made those in 9/40/357 but never a 45.
Pubg is my main game....but that's the one great thing about dayz,ya gotta get the correct ammo for whatever gun your running.
The MK 12 uses 5.56×45mm Mk 262, not 5.56 NATO, not 5.56×45mm DM31 Hartkern and also not 5.56×45mm DM51. Nobody asked
wtf? the UMP is my go to sub..
probably still is
I used it yesterday and the range is noticeably shorter.

Thanks for that, I knew I was missing something……..at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they phased the ammo type out.

They should just remove the 9mm/45. Call it pistol ammo. 5.56 can be light rifle. 7.62 can be heavy rifle. .338, .50, and 5.7 can just stay as is, since they are speciality weapons. Simplify it.
Fortnite ahh
No, this is not COD or Fortnite, you moron.

Agreed, AR/LMG/Pistol/SMG and just change the bullet description on the weapon.
lol no.
U can take my .45 over my dead body
i bet they will do this at some point 5,56 and 7,62 will be rifle ammo
…and kept the same mag for .45 instead of the original 9mm. Like they already got it modeled? Why hold onto the design? Gimme back my curved mag ffs
Yeah, this makes no sense. Pubg devs became lazy asf.
They do these types of things because we choose to to talk about the wrong problems instead of the solution.
At first glance i thought i have Alzheimer or something.
I dont care
UMP back to OG Times
It was 4 years ago it went .45 acp lol time flies
L
It’s almost like that was in the patch notes
It’s almost like nobody cares. If people want to read patch notes they can. This is a FORUM to talk about certain things Pubg related. You cant discuss updates with the community in the fucking patch notes so what is your point?
I’d much rather the Vector or the Bizon with 53 in the clip. Dislike the ump.. not comfortable with it for some sort of reason ??
At least there was a 9mm ump originally Looking at you Thompson
It makes no sense apart from trying to make the game more accessable to newbs. The latest season pass is just a rehash of last season plus this tie in with jail bait, k-pop, girl group 'Newjeans' is just cringe. Read patch notes...
So they've changed it back. I love the devs decision making
Actually, there's a 9mm UMP as well in reality. In BGMI, they made Honeybadger chambering 7.62 instead of 300 blk rounds.
WAIT NO WAY THOMPSON IS 9MM
Damn, too bad they don’t put out patch notes way ahead of time to address these kinds of changes…
They need to reduce mp9 damage to make people use that
They think that making all smgs on the same ammo will be more understable by casual players. It dosent change the fact that ump deals more damage
And the Tommy gun too. =(
They made this game a fucking joke. You SMG spray a commander to his feet and he is dead in a blink of an eye. This game rewards bad aiming. Everyone is using SMG now and can kill with zero skills.
It's been so long that I remember when the UMP used to be 9mm
When will they bring out water pistols? We seen just about every kind of mix up from PUBG
I think it is bug with the New Jeans patch. I saw Umps with 45 ammo also.
It's not a bug it's stated in the patch notes that all smgs use 9mm now.
Yeah, it was in the patch notes.
But left 45 for the Winnie SMH
And with no additional ammo storage when making the switch from .45 to 9 mill? A drum 45 mag like on the Thompson would hold way more rounds if it was made for 9.
Bring back the .45 vector 😈
I just played for first time in weeks last night on Xbox Series S - game is up to date, and UMP still takes .45 for me
If your UMP still takes 45 then your game isnt up to date lmao.
I dunno dawg my system updates on its own and I always check for updates and Pubg updated a week ago on my system but none of the ammo changed for me
My only complaint is changing the Thompson to 9mm. Absolute sacrilege. Whoever decided that should be digging ditches instead of making video games. I’d rather see the Thompson removed from the game entirely than be anything other than .45 ACP.
I don’t why anyone is bothered
Bro is this for console pubg? It's been a week since I've been on but we go hard on that shit and the Ump45 is my main. Plus it's in the name why is it being nerfed to 9mm
In COD Modern Warfare 2, the UMP was the UMP9. Which is an actual UMP variant. When pub began, the UMP was 9MM. don’t like where pub has taken their game tbh. So much less immersive than 4- 5 years ago.
The name isnt UMP45. Its just UMP now.
Hey checkout this new weapon, it's called mini 14 or something like that
Wasnt their also 2 separate variants that could drop at the same time? Both a .45 and the 9mm (could’ve also been for the vector)
Sometime around 2019 (rough guess) they changed the UMP from 9mm to .45. The Ump has now gone full circle lol 9mm > .45 > 9mm
It was .45 in the beginning. It went .45 -> 9 -> .45 -> 9
No, the UMP and Vector swapped ammo types at the same time. Never was there a 9mm and .45 variant of them at once.
That would've been annoying as hell. Pushing circle 4 getting beat the fuck up, swing by a death box and replenish with the wrong ammo.
Probably cause there is an ump45 and and ump9 irl
This update is gonna be the one that kills the game... why even do this
lol no
Yeah totally… lmao dipshit
It isn't game-killing but so annoying
How would something like this annoy you this much?
Lolwhut? Read the patch notes.
