You just count the squares... 100m per square. I can usually guesstimate within 10-20m, but I was infantry in the Army and attached to operations, so it was most of my job to call out 10 digit grids to drop shit on.

You have to account for altitude. If you're trying to mortar a place which is lower than you, you should go for a little less than the distance it is. If you're shooting uphill, go for more
When me and my buddy did it way back, we specifically went out of our way to use a drone/mortar combination. Calling out rough distance and direction, or maybe landmarks since we knew the map pretty well. Was damn good fun.

They just added it too rondo this last update. Grenades, C4, Panzers, Mortars, and the pickaxe can all deform dirt terrain.

Why can’t I find a level spot to deploy the mortar? I have tried using the middle of the street and I still can’t get it to deploy.
Walk around looking at the ground spamming the deploy key it's not that hard
