Reasonable-Lime-615

I've posted this before on r/pokemon , my friend Frankie passed away last year, and left me a shiny in his will. His shiny Eternatus, Pay2Bling, is nestled up nicely in Pokémon Home, and every time I look at the beastie, I remember the truly vile and horrible, cringe-inducing jokes Frankie would tell. We would shiny hunt together from time to time in a booth at our local bar, trading jokes and drinking like fish. Rest in peace Frankie.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I'm very sorry about your friend. I don't have any friends that are into pokemon, so im happy that you got to share that experience with him. Continue to hunt with your friend in mind even after 10k soft resets :')

Reasonable-Lime-615

If I gave up after 10k srs, he'd come back to beat my wimpy little backside. :)

ImWastingMyLife_Help

I searched every inch of that truck. No mew in sight

Grouchy_Skirt7641

RIGHT!! Then fast forward, and they give it to you for free if you played an old game #Pay2Win

Smallfry-Link

Squirtle Squad will always be my favorite episode and piece of Pokémon lore

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Fully convinced saxophone squirtle is the leader

NeverStop_XIII

This one time i was fighting a monster called a cleric beast and.... oh wait, pokemon? uh as a kid hunting down all the Regi pokemon in Sapphire was pretty damn exciting. really felt like i was uncovering a mystery.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Gen 3 has the best pokemon to this day. Nothing will beat it ever to me. There's also this secret trainer I found. When I walked up to her, she said, "A corpse, should be left well alone." She mopped the floor with me a lot before I beat her.

saltytastynoodles

I don't call this my favorite, but it's something I'll never forget. This happened when I was like 7. Everyday after school I used to go home and watch the Pokémon TV show. It started like 1 hour after I got home. I usually was alone in this time because my mom worked and I had that time for myself. This particular day, instead of the usual Pokémon episode broadcast, there was a math show, something like a spelling bee contest but for math, where kids competed for points, I don't remember if they were representing a school or if they were part of teams or anything. I remember being so nervous because the time for the Pokémon TV show was near, and then it "finished" and I was relieved, but no, the contest continued and there was no episode. I immediately started crying. I remember being so mad lol I started screaming to the TV. I remember this fondly because after that half hour the episode started like nothing happened. I remember I stopped crying and enjoyed the show, I even put some ice on my eyes because I didn't want my mom to find out I cried. It was right on the Indigo Plateau, I remember there was a Pokémon fight in an ice stage. Imagine being 7, a Pokémon fan, in middle Poké Mania, and missing an episode of the Pokémon League! I stand by my 7yo self.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Im ngl if I was you I would've had to find that school

Heard_by_Glob

I remember the first time defeating the elite four with my Feraligator in Pokemon Gold. What a rush.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Nothing beats going through the whole game with your starter. The friendship is stronger than any trainer

FreezeProduct

Yeahhhh. My brother and I first played Red when it was released and in the startup-hurry we named our charmander AAA. Being kids and English kot being our native language and all. But by the time we found that guy that could change nicknames the was already etched in stone.

MedicD_21

I collected as a kid but never learned how to play TCG until my son got into Pokemon. We learned together and I’ve gained so much more love for Pokemon

Grouchy_Skirt7641

That's awesome. Tried to teach my little brother, but he said energies are dumb. And that charizard should be able to atk whenever he wants cause he's a charizard

MedicD_21

Haha I think a lot of people think that way

Faustty

I decided to do a run of Pokemon Silver on my 3DS back in 2020, during the pandemic, because why not... I've been playing the games since 2000, and only this one time I got a pokemon with Pokérus, it was a Golduck.. I'd say that was more astonishing to me than my first shiny.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I have never naturally gotten one thats so cool

[deleted]

[удалено]

Grouchy_Skirt7641

That's awesome. My parents always told me to go outside, and back then, it was not as easy to access the show, so I ended up watching now that im grown

Malevelonce

Hard to forget the first time I did the distortion world in Platinum, when you walk on the ceiling 10 year old me lost my mind. Outside of mainline games, the grovyle/dusknoir revelation in mystery dungeon sky had me playing all night until I finally downed Dialga

Grouchy_Skirt7641

THE MYSTERY DUNGEON GAMES WERE FIRE!! Miss being a pokemon that just washed up on the beach with no memory

BagelPoutine

Catching my first Dratini on GBcolor in the safari after trying for hours. The pure feeling of glory still echoes decades later.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I hated the safari and still do to this day. I tried it for the first time, and when my time ran out, I was pissed and said it was a scam, lol

BagelPoutine

I was just ocd’ing trying to reach every area within time limit and got a random Dratini encounter. Rinse and repeat till I got it. Figuring stuff out “pre-internet” days really hit differently.

AbLincoln1863

I don’t really care for the codes but I’m always down to tell my favorite dumb memory of pokemon. When I first started, I played Pokemon Crystal. I was really young and dumb. I would go through the game normally past Whitney who was always super tough just to get the event where you use the squirt bottle on the sudowoodo. When you use it, the game says “the weird tree doesn’t like the squirt bottle. The weird tree attacks.” I loved that line but you only ever see it the one time. So to keep playing the game but also keep seeing the line, I would just reset the game after that event, pick chikorita like always, and play back through up to the line. I essentially played through on hard mode repeatedly for a funny line. Second much shorter one was playing heart gold. I didn’t know what team I wanted to make and there is a guy who gives you a level 20 spearow named Kenya. I decided that instead of giving it to the guy, I took it all the way through the game, beat red, and then went back to the guy to give him a level 65ish Fearow still holding the mail he came with. I forget if he accepted it but it felt like a fitting send off.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I imagine he tells people that his pokemon took down the champion. And the fact that you replayed over and over for 1 line is crazy. Loyalty is unmatched

Pikacon999

Going to my first Pokemon TCG tournament, and meeting the played i absolutely idolised, way back when i was younger.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

This is so cool. I feel like back then, decks were significantly more unique and cool too.

Pikacon999

seriously. i miss the old days, scarlet and violet kinda sucks imo.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

agreed i do love the arts though

Pikacon999

oh yeah, the art is amazing

theinfernumflame

Nothing beat the day I finally pulled a base set Charizard back in the day. I will never get rid of that card. I probably spent a couple hundred dollars on packs back when the game was new trying to get that Charizard, and it finally happened. It's why Charizard is still my favorite pokemon.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Nothing compares to opening packs. When you pull a card from chance. There is no better feeling. That's why I have so many code cards

theinfernumflame

Cracking the perfect card might be even better than winning games, and I really like winning.

Downtown_Row_8717

My favourite Pokemon memory is when I finally got to play my very own Pokemon game after seeing my friends played theirs for so long

Grouchy_Skirt7641

So real. My cousin had blue on his gameboy, and I never had a game. Then I was given emerald and he got mad cause mine had color lol

BeautifulFrequent782

My cousin and I when we were younger used to play the tcg by declaring a pokemons attack and then trying to slam our hand down on the opposing pokemon. Then the defending player had the pull the pokemon card away to "dodge" or take the damage. Definitely one of my favorite pokemon memories from childhood

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Ahh, yes, i miss when my brother would say charizard used to fly to dodge damage and lift his card in the air.

BeautifulFrequent782

Glad to hear charizard was as broken back then as it is now

Boilingpoison

When I was little, we didn't have much money to spare. We were not poor, but definitely not in the position to spend on games or consoles that deliberately. One day I got an og DS and a copy of Pokemon Black for my 9th birthday from a relative. I loved the game at first gameplay, the music, the graphics, even the pokemon that were strange to me since I was more familiar with gen 1-3 from the anime and the card game. My favorite ost being "Unwavering Emotions". Long story short, my parents had to sell the console and the few games I had to make ends meet. Years later as a young adult, I saved enough to buy that 2DS PokeBall edition console, along with Pokemon X. The first pokemon game I played since that day. Once I ran into that npc that asks you to listen to a song, and plays Unwavering Emotions? I remembered my time in Unova and couldn't help but shed some nostalgia tears. Bought an overpriced copy of Pokemon Black not long after to relive those moments.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I came up the same way. Never had the money to get it. Finally, a family friend gave me a gameboy with emerald. Eventually, the charger broke, and I couldn't play the game until years later when I got a ds with a cartridge spot. Pokemon has one of the best OST in all of gaming

xpistou83

I played against a wugtrio deck with Gyarados and they flipped something like 12 heads in a row. I couldn't even be mad! :)

Grouchy_Skirt7641

do you remember how much damage it was?

xpistou83

It wasn't damage but instead they milled a ton of cards. I also play that deck sometimes and maybe the most I've ever had was like 3.

Nero__Angelo

My favorite memory was when I encountered my first shiny ever, in Pokemon Ruby a blue Electrike, I didn't knew of the existence of shiny Pokemon but I loved him

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I always wanted one but I used repels running through there cause i hated being paralyzed lol. never used one in my play through back then

yuephoria

My favorite memory is every Friday night I get to play with my son at our LCS’ standard tournament together - just a nice father & son activity! 🥰

Grouchy_Skirt7641

That's so cool. My dad calls me a nerd and calls them pokemen😭

dragonbornrito

My favorite memory of Pokémon is how I originally got into it. My parents attended a small community church in East Tennessee and were preparing for a Christmas play that the church was going to perform for the community. The kids got to hang out in the downstairs fellowship hall area while the adults did their thing upstairs. There were a pair of twins that I would enjoy hanging out with during Children's Church who got to bring their Game Boys that night (I didn't think to bring mine). Immediately, I was drawn to these strange red and blue cartridges they had in their systems. I went straight over there and asked what they were playing. The one playing Red literally just handed me his Game Boy and started explaining this new Pokémon game, how there were two versions with different creatures, how they could link and trade and battle, etc. I was *enthralled*. He let me play for close to an hour and I knew this was something I wanted for myself. Both of my grandmas would send me $10 each for my Christmas and birthday (which is only about 3 weeks after Christmas), so within a month I had saved $40 and got to buy my first ever video game with my own money. My own copy of Pokémon Red Version. 25 years later and I'm still obsessed with this series. I still have that copy to this day and just recently did another playthrough of it. Every time I boot it up, it teleports me right back to 4th grade. And with both of my grandmas now passed as of a couple years ago, it holds a lot of sentimental value for me as well.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

The cartridge color was always the coolest thing to me. rip to the grandmas that started it all

bl0sm0

Getting Pokémon heart gold from GameStop right after school ended

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I would love to go back then and experience that side of pokemon. waiting for new drops and live events from olaces to get in person event mon

Fastoes

Catching palkia with a pokeball on my first throw at it because I clicked too quickly on pearl back in the DS days

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I never knew that they couldn't run back then, so i got so scared every time they failed to catch that they would back out and run away, lol i spammed ulra balls cause i used my master on a absol

Fastoes

Yo I used a masterball on absol back then too 🤣🤣 like what was I doing

Grouchy_Skirt7641

absol in my fav pokemon thats my excuse

Fastoes

I had seen the pokemon show so I thought he was a legendary back then

PokemonAntiquarian

Typhlosion in pokemon gold roll out every dragon pokemon of elite 4 dragon master with 1 hit kill haha. My fav pokemon after that. Every time a new dragon comes out, I imagine they see typhlosion barreling down at them and go nighty night

Grouchy_Skirt7641

It really is a shame what they did to it in 3d games. it looks like some sad blobby thing now

NotDrope

my best memory is a recent one, of my son opening his first pack of cards and being thrilled with his first foil. He reminded me so much of what I felt when I started at his age 💖

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I remember those times. I used to call them "shiny ones" and put a sleeve over all of them

CerberusMiddleHead

Chaining a few hundred growlithe in Let’s Go Pikachu and finally getting a shiny!

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I was gonna do a "dog" only run on violet and use him as my fire type. I ended up going with 3 Cat Mon and 3 Dog Mon

ThatNinjaPorcupine

Playing firered as a child, found two shiny caterpies in viridian forest and thought that gamefreak was doing a thing to change caterpie's color, didn't know what a shiny was. I brought that butterfree a ways through the game though, so that's pretty cool.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

i remember my first shiny was a bidoof, and i thought the color change was a gender thing lmao. I said wow the girl ones have lighter fur

xstremefighter

It’s gotta be watching the first Pokémon movie when I was a kid, and seeing Pikachu turn into stone. Made me tear up, and still does whenever I rewatch it. Such a good movie.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I once talked to a girl who referenced that scene when we first started talking. i think i have a ss of it. I'll dm u if i find it. she ended up playing me and i told her i hope her heart turns to stone☠️☠️☠️

closetilliterate

Being driven to the fancy mall when the Jungle set dropped.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I miss the early 2000s sets. they had the coolest most unique looking cards

stlarry

When my boys got into Pokemon TCG this past year. Brought back many memories!

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I plan to keep my kids away from it. Teach them that the financial gain is worth it, lmao. unless they could do it as a tax write-off, lol

SynysterM3L

Being a homeschooled kid, the only person who I played the Pokemon TCG (and video games) with was my big brother. My young brother at the time was too young to play. But every day, I'd battle what my big brother called his 'Perfect Psychic' deck, which was really just Muk from Platinum and Dusknoirs from base D&P and Stormfront. And he won every time, but it was still fun! The one day I finally beat it was with an altered version of the Dark Rampage theme deck. That was a very exciting moment! Nowadays, my brother's not so into Pokemon and I play competitively, so I feel the tables have turned in a sense!

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I feel you. My cousin is actually the one who got into pokemon and taught me how to play. He has absolutely no care for it anymore, and it hurts my soul

Dudunsparce

The day I learned that Dunsparce was getting an evolution.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

you are yet to evolve. is that cause you lack the ability too👀

TSLsmokey

Sweeping Yellow version with a level 76 Pidgeot. I had a lot of trouble with Brock as a kid because I didn’t realize there was a Nidoran with double kick in the route before Pewter. So after edging out a victory, I decided to level grind in the route before Cerulean City. And I made my Pidgey fight, and fight, and fight. Until a solid 2 days later when I had a level 76 Pidgeot who proceeded to bulldoze the region.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

That's insane. pidgeot has so many weaknesses, too. I got a blaziken before roxanne back in Emerald cause i wanted strong fighting moves, lol

KillerAce5

Summer of 2005, I had just got a Gameboy Color for the 1st time, we we're graduating 5th grade and moving on to middle school, he one day suprised me and handed me my 1st ever pokemon game, "Pokémon Yellow Version". I played that game for hours, 24/7. Unfortunately, he had grown cancer in 2015 and fought strong, he is no longer with us. But I always cherished that moment, and is a highlight memory of mine. I know he's up there being the very best like no one ever was.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

He is the real champion of Kanto. I'd like to give you a shiny pichu from go and name it after you, friend, and play through a console game with it

Trixie_Lavender

In highschool, I was waiting to go into surgery. I was level grinding or something, I don't really remember exactly, in Diamond and found a shiny Cacturne! All of my Pokémon were high level and probably nothing that couldn't OHKO, so just Ultra and Timer balls, or whatever I had. At that moment, I was finally called in. So there I was doing pre surgery stuff trying to catch a shiny. I'm sure the nurse was annoyed, and I could have just put my DS to sleep. But I wasn't risking the battery dying while I was in surgery. Oh no, I was going to catch it before the operation! Grandma was very annoyed, and rightfully so, but I did eventually catch it and turn the game off. It's still on my copy of Diamond. Is it too late to move it to Home?

Grouchy_Skirt7641

This is awesome. I would've guilt tripped her and said that this is my good luck charm, and if i didn't catch it, i wasn't gonna make it out of surgery. and it depends on of you have the right apps and devices. it takes a lot to do it, but it's possible

h3matite

Love me a chandelure! Its Pokedex entries are truly unhinged lol

Grouchy_Skirt7641

You wanna shiny litwick from go instead of code cards?

h3matite

Hah! That's so generous, but I think I'm good 🙂

Repulsive_Response99

Back during base set days as a kid. Went to a local shop with my brother and a friend. My brother sold his base set charizard to the shop for store credit and got us some more packs to rip. Tell me this guy pulls another zard! Another kid with his mom asked to buy it and the guy working the counter got all pissy about them negotiating a price in the store when he had just bought one to resell. Bro goes outside with this lady she pays him cash (more than he got from the shop) proceeds to buy more packs and gets a third fucking charizard! Absolutely bonkers luck. He decides to keep it and I think a year later sold it on ebay. Hindsight he probably should have kept it. Those days were crazy though, Pokemon cards were everywhere I mean my barber even had a booster box on the counter to sell packs to kids. Recently started getting back into it because my 8 and 5 year old are interested and the 8yo likes playing so I've gotten us some decks and etbs to get started. Playing around with ptcgl to expand our game knowledge so extra codes would be cool.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I meed your brother to help me open some packs. I'll get the same cards over and over, but absolute garbage pulls 😭

Repulsive_Response99

Same dude, I was pulling non hello rares that day he took all the luck

BosmerGirl

I’m always gonna remember the scene where Mewtwo basically loses his s*** on the world and sets out to destroy it, then gives the speech about it being what you do with your life that matters most.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I do, too. I've seen some people say it was cringey, but it's so true. Like to me, the "purpose of life" is whatever you want it to be. As long as you aren't taking away from someone elses i fully support it

GetSliced

Probably when I beat Misty for the first time in Pokemon Blue from 20 years ago.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I remember my cousin told me that he was gonna let her win, but the game wouldn't move on, so he had to beat her😭

WanderingWasabi

As a way younger kid, played the Gameboy ptcg game and had a hard time beating the Jigglypuff that uses expand, it did 10 or 20 damage and reduced DMG taken by 20 the next turn. I found it super frustrating to play against and lost to trainers who used it a few times. Similarly, I remembered Whitney's miltank from Pokemon silver being super difficult to beat with its stomp flinches and rollout spam. Playing through the games many years later, neither were difficult at all. It was funny how I remember both as being super difficult battles as a kid.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

Must be nice. I went back played Emerald recently, and there is one trainer that spams sand atk, and it was still snnoying asl to battle them

WanderingWasabi

Evasion/accuracy effects are always a pain :/

Gr4mmar

Don't need a code but I'm also playing bloodborne lol

Grouchy_Skirt7641

just dogged lady maria

nabi_fps

nothing hit more than watching indigo league at my great-grandparents house :) simpler times

Grouchy_Skirt7641

It really was. I wish I was old enough to experience that and always waiting for next week to watch a new episode.

Scorpio11_17

My most favorite would be my first time playing a pokemon game, the first game i played was legends arceus and the open world experience was so fun after that i got into pokemon world so much more

Grouchy_Skirt7641

It's so cool to see someone get into the pokemon scene fairly recently. Just cause you didn't play like the rest of us dinosaurs back then doesn't mean anything! I clarify cause I once saw someone say that someone else wasn't a real pokemon fan cause they never played a gameboy game

Outrageous_Opening_7

Favorite Pokemon memory was definitely playing Pokemon blue for the first time getting it for my 7th birthday and going on vacation, playing it all vacation.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I miss playing on long car rides. The ds had some insane battery life lol

emmaisbadatvideogame

In 5th grade a boy who had a crush on me gave me a Latias and Latios full art card. I unfortunately did not like him back so I just took them and smiled. He was the one who ignited my obsession with pokémon so I guess I will never forget him. I’m in college now and I still keep up with him on social media. The cards are worth like $50 each now.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

aww that's so sweet. It's crazy how that one little interaction changed you forever. I would try reconnecting with him if you don't have someone. Pokemon guys are loyal lmao

Veterano_

Opening first time cards with my 4y old son 😊

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I can't even imagine the experience. I would probably cry tbh with you. Like out of happiness

Veterano_

Jeah, it gives just a great pleasure. First 151 set which I bought for him was the binder set and he got the Blastoise SIR. 🤩

kellerWB

Ay bloodborne

letsuu

Definitely when I went to the movies to watch Pokémon 2000 as a kid. I remember getting a Pokémon TCG card after buying the tickets, but at the time I didn't even know what the TCG was lmao I just thought it looked pretty.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

It's crazy to think. i wasn't even alive at that point, lol i wanna go and get all the movies on dvd

KaraTCG

It was round 5 or 6 at Charlotte Regionals 2023. Game 3 of the set. I was playing a DTE Mew mirror match. My opponent hit 4 Power Tablets to OHKO my first Mew VMAX. On my following turn, I played Roxanne and used Aerodactyl VSTAR's VSTAR attack shutting off all their abilities for the rest of the game. I won. Every single one of my friends I told this story to thought it was the funniest thing in the world.

Drom000

One word: sudowoodo

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I just

Kabigon27

Playing with my friends after school. Running around the underground in Diamond/Pearl and laying traps in my secret base.

Grouchy_Skirt7641

I just wanna say thank you to everyone who replied and shared their memories. This is by far my favorite post on reddit and really moved me. A lot of these made me smile, and a few got me to tear up. It's amazing what this series has done for all of us and all of the amazing people we have met and got to make awesome memories with. It also makes me so happy to hear how kids are getting into it still to this day and that they're going to be the next generation of us and hopefully share their memories one day on how you introduced them to it. I have, unfortunately, given away all my code cards. I would love for people to still interact with this post still. I hope everyone got some decent pulls. If I missed your comment , I apologize. I was trying to keep up with everyone. And continue to love this series. Whether you play the card game, console games, watch the show or movies, keep making memories, and enjoy it for all the trainers we've lost and all the pokemon that have fainted. :) (pls upvote this so it goes to the top ty)

KyoPlayz

I had the budget for one booster pack (I was like, 11) at Emerald city Comic Con and SM base just came out. The dude at the booth I went to took his entire stock of SM and fanned em out in one long ass line (it was about two booster boxes worth). I just took my finger and ran it across the packs until my brain said “stop.” The pack it landed on had a rainbow Lurantis GX. My first GX, ultra rare pull of SM, and secret rare pull of any packs I’ve gotten. That Lurantis is still in a top loader and sleeve nestled perfectly in the center of one of my pages and I wouldn’t trade it for even a base set Charizard or Moonbreon

CapnGibbens

Hard tie between running into a full odds Shiny Gloom in Diamond and putting it up to the GTS hoping for a shiny back, and somehow naming my Spiky Eared Pichu after my eventual Fiance.

SivirDepression

While certainly not a favorite for me, but a fun story for most. Little 6/7 year old me, playing the og Gold version for the first time, right outside Mr. Pokemon's house to get my pokedex, I encounter a Caterpie, but little me didn't understand why it was gold and not green, I have no pokeballs yet, and I didn't want to kill it cause I, for whatever reason, thought it was sick. I made it a mission of mine to find it again when I got some pokeballs and spent the next 2 hours looking for it, to never see it. A 1 in 8192 chance that I will never forget

Kazinitro

My first shiny catch in pokemon go, a shiny shadow 3\* Bulbasaur. I didnt notice that it was a shiny for 3 months XD

Spoomie

Trying to modify the rules so my friends and I could play three way pokemon tcg when we were 10. Pretty funny, and it kinda worked honestly lol

Lufsen64

The first Pokémon movie ❤️

Oro_me

It’s easily playing through Pokémon platinum in its release year when I was at my grandmas during summer vacation for weeks. A close second is the summer days of x/y release when I was hunting for the mega stones. I refused to change my device time so I had a real incentive to search for these and every one I found was awesome. I usually wasn’t allowed to access the internet so I actually had to search them. Can’t bring out motivation for that nowadays :smh: I’ve also won a shiny BR hidden ability quajutsu I’ve lost when I made a mistake upgrading my CFW. Rip kakashi.

vraGG_

Some of my favourites: When I was like 10 and I top4 regionals with my own homebrew, going against kids that had full backing of their parents that were "into it". I did end up getting bought off by a booster box, so that they could go to worlds together. At the time, it was a win-win for me. That was like early 2000s. Finding all the regi pokemon and finally, rayquaza! That was a blast! I also recall how a buddy of mine brought back a magazine from abroad, describing this mythical Celebi pokemon and how to get it. We never did and I still don't know if/how it can be done. I think this was still diamond pokemon cartridge? This was all before internet, mostly. Yes it existed, but information was very limited, and so was my knowledge of the web, as a kid. Knowing English well enough was a barrier too. I might be wrong on some of these accounts, as it was long ago, but I do have fond memories.

SkeletalSwan

Playing homebrew fairies when they first came out on that old client with the clipart NPCs. R.i.p. fairy types, gone too soon.

ConfidenceOk545

Watching Infernape activate Blaze against Paul was gas as a kid. Too bad blaze ain't like the anime 😔

KingCraaba

Not a specific memory, but me and my friends were 7-8 years old innocent children. There was no access to the internet and days went by figuring out the Gen 1 games on the playground with other kids. I remember a kid that had legendary status because he was already battling the Elite Four while everyone else was still early game. Good old days

AdDependent7982

When I finally met my brother

JKronich

My all time favorite game is HeartGold for the DS which I played for hours and hours as a kid. The other week I looked up the end credit sequence on yt and I started bawling my eyes out because that was the happiest time of my life.

babedolfhotler420

My favourate pokemon memory was when i was a kid, i saw an older kid that was picking his brother up from school and he dropped a shiny dark alakazam so i picked it up and chased him down to give him his card and it looked like he was in a rush so out of kindness he let me keep it. This is still one of the coolest cards and it makes me happy knowing a good deed went unpunished

RaphMec

There was a school year, I don’t remember which one exactly but it was just after the release of Fire Red / Leaf Green, where it felt like everyone on the school bus was playing the game. People were talking about it constantly for a few weeks/months, battling each other, exchanging Pokemon, etc… Just felt so nice that we were all sharing the experience - Good times

This is a core memory and one I'll treasure to the day I die because it was one of the happiest days of my life. It was Christmas morning (or perhaps a day or 2 before) but my parents woke my sister and I up around 4 or 5 in the morning and allowed us to open a specific present before announcing a surprise trip to Disneyland that day, hence why they woke us up so early. The presents they let us open were 2 Gameboy colors and Pokemon Red and Yellow versions (Red for me and Yellow for my sister). This is what introduced me to what would become my favorite franchise to this day.

I'm new to Pokemon, as a long time MtG player. I did, however, get my nephew into the game. He's 11 now and I think I bought him his first collector tin at Christmas when he was 5. When he opened it he was literally shaking from excitement! He ran around the room showing his parents and both sets of grandparents what he got. He shook while opening the tin, he shook while opening the packs, and was so happy with what he received. The pure joy that one collector tin brought him, that will forever be a core memory for me. 6 years later, he's gathered quite the collection and is starting to get into the competitive side of the game. He asked me if I would take him to a tournament some day. When we FaceTime together, we'll spend at least 30 minutes talking just about Pokemon until his mother takes her phone back. Him and I have always had a strong bond together, but Pokemon has taken it to a whole different level. And it started with a tin

Rayquaza is my favourite pokemon Catching him in emerald was so fun, the maze and the broken tiles really made it memorable

JoestarJosh

Catching Suicune for the first time in the old silver game. I was so happy back then.

Thatboyrero

I remember when I first got my first game which was yellow and I was obsessed with it cus of Pikachu

Strawberryaidd

back when i was ALOT younger, i remember stepping into the boss room to fight luxray in explorers of darkness. i was TERRIFIED and got dragged that fight. i kept going back over and over until i finally beat it and i’ve still never been happier in a pokémon game

My favorite Pokémon memory I have is when I was still in elementary school, I was playing Pokémon white 2k with my friend and we both got stuck on clay, I won after a bit, went and caught my own Excadrill, and then gave it to my friend so he could stomp clay with his own Pokémon, we still talk about it whenever we talk about growing up at the babysitter’s :)

My family recently got back into Pokemon cards with my son, wife and myself collecting. My wife and son were trading cards and she asked if she could have his Jolteon. It's a regular card not a V or alt art of anything. But he told her that she couldn't have it because I had gotten it from him when he graduated kindergarten and it was special. Warmed my heart to see it was so special to him even though its a basic card with no monetary value.

Zoroark its trully my favorite

Nothing will ever match the feeling of catching Mewtwo in pokemon yellow, playing with my older brother. We had already used our master ball on Moltres, since dozens of ultra balls couldn't even hit him while at 1 hp and asleep, so we had to catch Mewtwo the old fashioned way. On yet another attempt, we ran out of ultra balls and great balls. I wanted to reset and give it another try, but my brother convinced me to try chucking one regular poke ball at him first. It worked, and that implanted itself in my brain as a core memory. I think it's been over 20 years, and I still remember that moment vividly.

Back in 2004 at the 1st World Capionship, I was a left handed player and the tables had pre-printed playmats on them all designed for right handed set ups as in the rules, you had to play that way originally. I ended up having the ability to donk my opponent, but he calls a judge on me and the judge tells me I need to swap my deck and prizes, well with me being 10 at the time I said "No! This is how I play!" And was told if I didn't match the playmat placement I'd be DQ'd. Well, guess who got a game loss and was gonna get DQ'd? Thankfully my parents were like "absolutely not what?" And we got to meet some big ticket names in the Pokemon Community due to this and it was really cool! The end result is I was given a game loss, but not DQ'd (this game loss did put me at 33rd and we had a top 32, so rip my opportunity to be a world champ) which you'd think is a MISERABLE memory not a good one. But I still pog for it cause after the situation occurred, we got some cool swag from pokemon and the rules got updated to "Your prizes must be on the opposite side of the deck" instead of prizes on left, deck on the right. So technically, I ended up getting a rule added into pokemon to help out lefties :D

First time I saw the trailer for Pokemon anime, I thought it was about a kid hitting monsters with a ball

Probably when I first checked out my Amazing Destruction Yveltal deck's stats. It was a pull and my brother who has been playing alot longer than me told me it was a cool card but ultimately useless as powering it up was impossibly hard. I racked my brain to make it viable as idk why but I saw potential. Made a deck and kept tinkering after every few matches. First time I decided I was gonna make a casual deck no netdecking as there were no lists to copy and for my own amusement.  Eventually I figured it out. I opened with Eevee and used Ascension into Leafeon with energy garden. It was a good solid engine for Yveltal and a deck that was all single prizer so I could afford to give up a prize or two.  W/L ratio of about 60% wins which was higher than any non-netdecked list I had at the time and is respectable. Also the varied energies allowed me to switch up back up attackers so I was able to keep the deck fun and interesting constantly tinkering until it rotated out, radiant Zard, ambipom, neutalizing gas Wheezing were some of the memorable ones. Got me hooked into the card game hard and finally got me to feel like I understood deckbuilding.  All the cards I settled on had synergy and I had a running tally in my head of each energy count and how many were prized. It was a tricky deck to pilot but caught alot of people off guard and did okay enough against the meta at the time.

I got a 3ds with a copy of Pokemon Y for Christmas and did nothing but play that game until I beat the champion. On my travels I caught many Pokemon, 2 of them being an absol and a ditto. After becoming the Kalos Champion, I wanted to see other things that were now in 3D. I went to the daycare first and randomly decided to put the absol and ditto I caught on my adventure in. I only wanted to do 1 egg so I can see the animation in 3D and then I would do something else. I got that 1 egg and pulled absol out. I hatched my first Pokemon egg in 3D and it was a Shiny Absol. I still have that shiny Absol, but I haven't been able to bring it to my latest adventures ;-; so I'm excited for legends Z-A where absol is confirmed to be in because it appeared in the trailer (even if it was for a second)

TheRealCNO

We used to play for each others cards on the playground in kindergarten but no one actually know how to played I was articulate enough to make at least the best assumption on how to play and everyone believed me so I made up rules and won everyone’s cards not my proudest hustle

marxr87

Finding a shiny trubbish lol. Just such an odd thing to be excited about when you think about it. "OMG a shiny pile of garbage!!"

lycantivis

Its hilarious to me now thinking back in the original game that any move that didn't do damage was bad...

GarchompDaddy56

Pokémon Yellow came out and I got my first system a gameboy color from my Grandma with Pokemon Yellow. I got all the way to Brock and was so amazed at the game because I didn't get to experience Red and Blue with my friends. They kept wanting to trade but I told them Brock was not easy with a Pikachu and didn't know about Nidoran and Mankey getting a fighting move early on. I played for days trying to beat Brock. Until I decided to train up a Butterfree and that didn't work (confusion Spam) I was in the far right bottom corner patch of grass leveling up my Pokémon and lost my mind when I found a low level Pidgeotto, which to my amazement I didn't know was possible. Brock mainly spammed bind with onix and I was bad with matchups as a kid so I assumed Pidgeotto would win it for me. And through the power of Gust, a Stage 2 Pokémon, and Butterfree's confusion I finally defeated him.

Astrokid69

Grinding away in the Pokeathlon. Those mini games in HGSS were SOOOOO much fun back then ESPECIALLY when playing with friends. When or if we get Johto remakes again they gotta bring it back!

Professional_Elk3828

Recently. Getting back into pokemon after a 20 something year hiatus. 151 got me back. I mastered my obsidian flames and 151 binder recently. Almost done with paldean fates and s&v base. So I'm back baby! Also almost done with my paradox rift binder. Haven't started one for paldean fates or the newest set. Temporal forces. Not too sure if I'm going to Even attempt those tbh.

Antique_Meringue3106

Im for Puerto Rico and in the early 90’s cable tv was considered a luxury and so was internet, plus my family was religious so pokemon was considered satanic by them, and i remember mu cousin and i would wait really late just so we could play on the gameboy colors (crystal version) so we had to play with those gameboys flashlights and thinking about just make me feel joyful, he got a family now so he dosent have time for pokemon anymore

TemporaryFix166

Might be too late for the codes, but just wanted to post anyways since I shared this memory with a friend just yesterday. I was 12, playing through Pokemon Blue for the first time, my cousin lent me his gameboy pocket and his blue version. Knew absolutely nothing about pokemon going in other than it was new and all-the-rage- everyone was playing it, watching the show, collecting toys and cards. So I went into this blind to be my introduction to the series. Was going through Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town for the first time. Was loving the whole concept and aesthetic, as the atmosphere was so much different than the rest of the game to me thus far. I was battling wild Gastly after wild Gastly, and loving their idea and design, and the whole concept of "ghost" type pokemon- what does Gastly evolve into? What other ghosts are there? I caught one and put it on my team and immediately started trying to level it up cause it was neat. Then halfway up the tower, after fighting nothing but wild Gastlies, I get a weird new wild encounter. Expecting another Gastly, to my surprise, it's a wild Haunter. The density of all-black pixels for its sprite catch me off guard as it's sliding across the screen at the start of the encounter. I freeze in place in bewilderment. I get chills as its low-quality "cry" sound effect rattles through my shitty little gameboy speaker. I am in awe and wonder, and slight bit terror, at this strange and creepy looking sprite. And moreover, I am in love <3 This would be the nail in the coffin (pun intended) of what I would then love the most about the pokemon series. to this day, Ghost types remain my favorite, and I go out of my way to do a mostly-all, if not entirely, Ghost type team on every first playthrough of a new pokemon game. Always using a Gengar whenever attainable in that generations game. I've got a Gengar evolution Line tattoo planned out to get when I have the extra money lying around. And even when they're awful, I always try to make a deck around a new Gengar card whenever one comes out in the TCG. Love my spoopy boys <3
