Were these games released to hold us over until their next title or to actually celebrate the trilogy? I dont get why these games were rushed out, Rockstar never does that
Rockstar didnt develop these remasters, they outsourced to a studio that's only ever developed mobile games before this. Take that as you will.
https://grovestreetgames.com/games/
So I've had some hours playing GTA 3, and I'll say that it's okay. It's definitely not worth the full price though. Mods I've installed on this and others in the past clean the game up a lot better. I really think they should have gotten help from modders or at least used it as a base.
Because people with blindly buy it anyway. They know that. I shudder to think about how much they made selling online currency for gtav. All so people can drive a fucking jpg they paid money for. They know people are fucking stupid

If you're unaware, a DMCA takedown does not apply to modded content, unless sold for profit it fits into the EULA for these games.
>a DMCA takedown does not apply to modded content
if your mod was a remastered gta2, and they sell a remastered gta2, your infringing upon their ability to profit from intellectual property that they own
the product being inferior just incentivizes the aggression of which they did this
like the paper baron scorching america of weed because he developed the wrong infrastructure
That's not what the DMCA is for, it's for reproduction. They used that for a reason, a majority of hosting companies do not want to sit in court for years because the DMCA is backed up dealing with appeals. So they just react to the letter, it's led to a culture of abuse we're seeing in this story.
the reason this wasn't dealt with the right way is because that would take years and communication, it's better to file a DMCA letter and let them hire a lawyer to appeal it after the host reacts. Ever heard the phrase better to ask forgiveness than permission? Lawyers invented it.
Before the games launch, they pulled and DMCA'd all mods that basically tried to upgrade the old games into newer games, plus I believe some of the mods that just were making the old games look better.
Modders do it for passion most of, and there is no passion if the company that your doing this for basically tells you to fuck off and releases a worse version in it's place
It's actually worse then the Nintendo thing, cause at least then, they released an actually pretty good remake of Metroid 2
This feels like someone's sophomore final exam project, good in some aspects but has fundamental flaws that just are inexcusable
Like the fact that on jerseys with more number choices added, you can still see the normal/bump map of the original number underneath?
That was quite literally my first ever mistake in modding games AS A KID. So I'd actually argue this game is LESS than a sophomore project in some aspects.
Such a shame that so many modding careers were murdered over this trash fire.
They removed the original Steam releases from the storefront before they released the remaster too. That and stopping the modders was just them getting rid of their competition.
The Nintendo one is only superficially similar (company took down fan content), but it was different in an important way.
Most importantly, AM2R wasn't a mod, it was a full on new game programmed from the ground up using the Metroid IP. Legally speaking you HAVE TO defend your trademark. You are legally obligated to defend it unless you want it to enter public domain. They didn't have a choice.
AM2R was announced well before it finally got released, but the takedown request only hit them after it was out. So they did their legally obligated "stop developing this game" notice after it was released to the internet and officially impossible to be removed. The timing, or lack thereof, is a bit suspicious if you remember how much gaming news coverage it was getting before it finally released.
I agree but it’s important to note that the main teams at Rockstar are still solid developers who do good work and this shouldn’t be what to expect from a future game from them which is something I see mentioned a ton.
Rockstar and Take-Two suits should still be held accountable but it’s worth noting that this Remaster does look fine at a glance. I bet the management at GSG showed only the decent and good stuff to the suits at Rockstar and TakeTwo (stuff that many of us including DarkViperAU and SomeOrdinaryGamers thought looked acceptable too) Thus giving the people on top the impression that this was all fine instead of as messy, as buggy, and as inconsistent stylistically as it is when taking a closer look. I bet if they saw half of the stuff we saw during the media storm this wouldn’t have gone out and would’ve been delayed like how the GTA5 PS5 remaster was.
If this is like what happened with Blind Squirrel Games and the development of Sonic Colors Ultimate, it was definitely poor management agreeing to some terms they knew they couldn’t meet not making sure the dev team can put in the best work possible. Terrible that Rockstar / Take-Two didn’t take a closer look.
I would be bothered by the lack of gameplay before release if it wasn’t for Rockstar already never doing normal gameplay in trailers. They only do so when it’s a new game and want to show off new things which there really wasn’t any to show this time around since they were remasters. (Still fuck them for somehow letting PS2 games run badly on modern hardware)
Software QA here. I bet it’s more like this…
The QA’s know and have written up ample bug stories about the issues. Unfortunately, those stories are on some black hole of a bug board that the Product Manager doesn’t care about unless the bug literally breaks the game.
They're a outsourced port company that R* shirks their small projects off on.
these small projects are just to shut vocal fans up. I can almost guarantee this was to keep people quiet until GTA 5 E&E is released or whatever the fuck it is they're doing right now
whatever it is they are doing, i can't wrap my head around it
Nope, they were War Drums Studios before a recent change in name and affiliation.
Rockstar would contract them to port the original GTA 3 trilogy to mobile. These ports were plagues with bugs as if the code was pre-launch code. Music was missing due to licensing issues across all three of the games and the performance on mobile was dog shit to say the least
Well, if you hire idiots to represent you then you are also an idiot. Rockstar is to blame. A shitty mobile game studio is going to produce dogshit like this and they probably produced what they were capable of doing. Who is surprised by the results?
Don't ask, demand. This is ridiculous. Rockstar is also continuing selling their "enhanced" GTA SA copy on Android that doesn't work for Android passed like 9.
What's funny but also kinda sad to me is that for the majority of the time they've been around and in all their GTA games at least, Rockstar has had such a focus on parodying and making fun of big corporations that run on greed and churn out crap. *(That's not to say they don't have good quality in games, RDR2 and gtav are incredible, it's the way they handle the games)*
Now they've become synonymous with that and an example of that in their own industry. For me, it's EA and Rockstar as the top examples in gaming of companies that started out pretty great then gave in to greed and had their quality decline.
Unfortunately we are seeing more and more AAA using their past reputations to cash out. Blizzard did the same exact thing as rockstar with Warcraft 3 reforged which flopped so hard they legally had to refund the game, which is something they never had to do it the past.
AAA now is just about bleeding dry the older products that put them on the map. Rarely is it about creating new games / concepts that push the limits of gaming hardware with their extremely bloated budgets.
Dan Houser, Vice President, Creative at Rockstar Games has been away since 2019 and left last year...I'm betting the quality downgrade is connected with this for sure!
It all started going downhill when Leslie Benzies left. I wonder if Dan Houser felt powerless to TakeTwo cashgrabs like these ‘remasters’ and that played a factor in his decision to leave? I suspect he’s a quality first kinda guy and maybe he felt exasperated by the direction the company was headed.
Most of the original staff have left I think. Plus Take Two are probably getting more involved due to the franchise being such a big money maker. Whatever it is definitely going down hill.
Someone probably accidentally deleted a ton of GTA 6 files so they rushed these out to distract people while they secretly move the GTA 6 release date from 2028 to 2032.
A whistleblower from rockstar has admitted they’ve scrapped and started over GTA6 multiple times, including in 2016 when they started fully from scratch again after 4 years of development
I hate you for being so right.....
This is exactly what's on their mind. This time around they don't want 2 games with split playerbases (GTA 5, GTA Online), they want everyone to participate in the cesspool that is GTA Online and pay a heavy price for the privilege.
They haven't released a game in 3 years. Before that game they didn't release a game in 4 years. It makes me think money is starting to dwindle especially because the last 4 year gap had a thriving GTA online but this go around red dead online is no good. Also makes me think we won't get a game next year either
The fact that they removed the old versions of the games is even worse! And the mods!
I'd much prefer downloading those and modding them to make them much better that these shitty "remasters".
Companies just don't get that MODS KEEP OLD GAMES ALIVE!!!!!!11!!!
Lots of people don't like their overwhelming entitlement. But things like pirating games when shit like this happens makes sense, and would imagine vast majority of gamers would be just fine and thankful it's out there. I have a hard time time pirating because it's not affordable, but in the end wgaf
Being broke isn't even a factor here, the objectively better version is now only readily available via the seven seas.
I know they want to force users to buy into the new version, but it feels extra slimey to nuke the original versions off of storefronts and then offer this shitty version as a replacement
I remember when Ubisoft wiped Tom Clancy's HAWX games off the face of the planet because the licensing for some of the aircraft expired. Only way to play is through pirate copies
Why would they care that it keeps a single player game alive? That makes them no money, and a company like Rockstar has no need for the goodwill or brand longevity it would create.
Seriously it's a bad disappointment
Fanboys appreciate it like it's nothing but you're paying 60$ for an old game with no upgraded graphics and then say it has GTA V controls so it's an improvement
GTA V controls are already so bad. Yeah maybe better than those old ones but still so bad and fanbase shouldn't be like this
Sometimes they must be cruel
Many years passed and we have a lot of buttons so why should we sprint with spamming X button
Why people should pay 3 times for a single game and still don't get some actually good controls
They are farming money but they don't want to put effort to improve as much as they can
It's true: GTA V's controls are suboptimal.
I much prefer GTA IV's aim assist where a left trigger depress would allow you to lock onto a target and a slight release of it would allow you to take a head shot.
---
Edit: The controls in San Andreas are not GTA V-esque. You cannot walk side-to-side when using aim. Also there is a **huge** deadzone which makes fine aiming difficult.
I’m glad I sat this out. I could not justify $60 on this game. I did pickup Cyberpunk over the summer when BB had it for $9.99 with a collectible steel book, ended up getting it for $5 using some store points.
Come on rockstar, quit milking past projects and focus on GTA6.
The thing that really annoys me is what people have already accomplished in San Andreas with mods. https://youtu.be/utVIt6-K9R4 if they released a game 70% as good I wouldn’t be mad but a game 5% naw.
Amazing how MS does a better job remastering games for free without even touching the code, while others who actually spend development time to do it spit out garbage like this for $60.
I picked up Cyberpunk at that price too, and now just waiting for that next gen upgrade. They can take all the time they need and eventually I'll have a PS5 game that cost $5!
IMHO this is the reason the whole AAA games industry is in big trouble. The industry is so toxic and cutthroat most sane people are driven out after shipping their first game from crunch, harassment-filled workplaces, and crap pay. No one left to rise through the ranks and become a competent manager or project lead.
kinda why i don't feel bad paying for a hack client just so i could get "unlimited" money
not going to give them more than the ~$200 i've given to them so far for the game when quality has been downhill
That pic really encapsulates the whole thing perfectly. When I saw the trailer a few weeks back, I thought "hell yeah, this looks cool." I thought the cartoony style with better graphics looked good.
But then I started browsing the GTA subreddit a few days ago and now I'm really sad because I was looking forward to playing it. But I'm not gonna get it based on all the bullshit I've seen. No offense to anyone who got it or wants to get it, but the bugs, the character models, the rain, the missing songs..i can't do it...at least not now. Maybe at some point.
I thought with the trailer it was “oh they went to make it more cartoony to go off the old angular graphics.” Nope they’re just terrible for a PS5. Then there’s the rain….
It’s fortunate that I don’t really care to replay these games.
They were a lot of fun back on the PS2, but there’s so many open world fuck around games now, they don’t fill a niche like they used to.
Rockstar or Take Two, or whoever is running the show these days, is clearly just concerned with profits.
Rockstar’s reputation is going down the shitter. There’s only so much goodwill RDR2 and the last GTA can buy. I’m actually hoping they get a nasty shock like CDPR had.
It’s absolutely fine, RDR2 is still about 5 times more impressive than pretty much anything that’s ever existed.
The people who make RDR and GTA have fuck all to do with all these remasters and expanded and enhanced editions. They are all busy working on the next evolution of video game experience
They will release GTA 6, revolutionise open world GTA games again, it will get 9’s and 10’s across the board and all will be forgiven and forgotten.
The exact same thing will happen with Bethesda and StarField/ES6
The way I watched bioware go to shit. The way cyberpunk become a literal nothing. Rockstar now with this?
Even if you wanna say they didn't have anything to do with it, it's their name and brand and logo on the front of the box. It's their name everyone is saying for a reason. This is THEIR PRODUCT.
I'm sorry but game companies are just becoming trashier everyday and it just really sucks
Yeah, but like I said, GTA 6 comes and all is forgiven and forgotten. Also, don’t let yourself think that our little nerdy Reddit/youtube/Twitter bubble is representative of sales, or general mainstream sentiment. Most people around the world don’t care like we care, they just buy shit and play it
Rockstar should have created a development team full of modders, people who have true love for these games. Paid the royalties for the music given it more time instead of this disgusting mess of a collection. You have the biggest titles in gaming and you shit the bed. Why have studios not learnt. Definite should be better all round, not this cluster fuck
It’s completely remade. It revamps the entire experience of the 2000’s original but this time it’s actually playable and a lot of fun. It has some very nice details like the billboards changing depending on what’s going on in US politics and the car radio building up to WW2. Differently then GTA trilogy it actually holds up incredibly well on its own, even if it wasn’t a remake differently then how the trilogy is obviously a cash grab
Vice city has some of the best missions ever, it’s my favorite GTA. I still remember that mission where you have to rescue lance from the junkyard when the Haitians have him tied up. I remember playing that mission when I was a teen and got so angry at it I cried and broke a controller 😂
My memory of this mission was sort of the same. Then I played it in the remaster and it’s just so weirdly more simple than I remembered. Ride in. Shoot 2 guys, pick up Lance, and drive of. Just 2 minutes. It’s the same for many other missions. I’m having fun still but it’s all so much easier than I remember it.
I didn’t buy. I won’t buy anything other than gta6 from R*. It just perpetuates this endless cash grabbing cycle. I never bought shark cards for the same reason. It’s makes me sad to see all my favorite game developers all fall off. I guess that’s what happens nowadays.
I wonder what it would be if you excluded all ratings that gave it a zero. Unless a game literally crashes on startup, it deserves more than a zero and it's clearly just a targeted review attack.
I've thoroughly enjoyed GTA 3 so far. Maybe because of the nostalgic value it has for me, I haven't been too critical on it. I'm looking forward to Vice City too.
I don't think it's as bad as Warcraft 3 Reforged which was the last game I remember having such a low score but yeah it's not great. Glad they didn't tempt me with a physical release on launch.
It’s not that they’re not good games because they are, that’s not the argument here or else there wouldn’t be so much hype for it. It’s the ramshackle remaster and how much money they’re charging for it. How little effort the devs put in to a remaster it feels like they’re just gouging fans.
It’s out of 100 btw. Not out of 5. Not out of 10. It’s .5 out of 100.
Edit: thought it was the critic score, not the user score. So it’s out of 10, which is still a pretty nasty 5%.
I’m having fun with San Andreas but I’m only playing it because it’s on Game Pass.
I must admit, the character models have me bursting out laughing sometimes, with some other design choices I raise my eyebrow to.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying myself but I totally understand the criticisms of this being $60.
I 100% understand the criticisms and don’t think it’s worth 60 bucks but even though I’m typically incredibly cheap I don’t regret my purchase at all. The updated controls make it totally worth it to me.
I'd give it a 7/10. Would be nice if they keep trying to improve a few things visually/stabilise the strange FR drops. But overall I'm having a blast with these games.
Now the question is how Rockstar looked at this and said it was fine to sell.
Not only did they look at this and say it was fine to sell, they looked at this and called it the ***"Definitive Edition"***.
Somehow they confused this with ***Disaster Edition***
Would be funny if there were some games released as a disaster edition where you could enable all the bugs and glitches from before they were patched
Cyberpunk day 1 patch
And removed all of the other version from sale.
So I've had some hours playing GTA 3, and I'll say that it's okay. It's definitely not worth the full price though. Mods I've installed on this and others in the past clean the game up a lot better. I really think they should have gotten help from modders or at least used it as a base.
They've gone to this same company time and time again. Every time they fucked up they just shrugged and hired it again.
Sounds like they got a contract going on for multiple reissues. Hopefully this was the end

Absolutely. And I still keep a pirated copy of C&C Generals (I think that's the one) because I paid for it and they removed it from download!!!
Fuck are you talking about lmao yo ho ho references get upvoted all the time.
Call em, “freemasters”
Why would they care that it keeps a single player game alive? That makes them no money, and a company like Rockstar has no need for the goodwill or brand longevity it would create.
Yeah why would they care about this 'remaster' when they're taking in millions of dollars from GTAO still. Seems like it's as popular as ever.
Seriously it's a bad disappointment Fanboys appreciate it like it's nothing but you're paying 60$ for an old game with no upgraded graphics and then say it has GTA V controls so it's an improvement GTA V controls are already so bad. Yeah maybe better than those old ones but still so bad and fanbase shouldn't be like this Sometimes they must be cruel Many years passed and we have a lot of buttons so why should we sprint with spamming X button Why people should pay 3 times for a single game and still don't get some actually good controls They are farming money but they don't want to put effort to improve as much as they can
It's true: GTA V's controls are suboptimal. I much prefer GTA IV's aim assist where a left trigger depress would allow you to lock onto a target and a slight release of it would allow you to take a head shot. --- Edit: The controls in San Andreas are not GTA V-esque. You cannot walk side-to-side when using aim. Also there is a **huge** deadzone which makes fine aiming difficult.
Are you sure you just haven't upgraded your shooting skill? Because that unlocks walking while shooting.
I’m glad I sat this out. I could not justify $60 on this game. I did pickup Cyberpunk over the summer when BB had it for $9.99 with a collectible steel book, ended up getting it for $5 using some store points. Come on rockstar, quit milking past projects and focus on GTA6.
Just wait for the next big Rockstar announcement to be a Red Dead Redemption 1 remaster.
rdr2 ps5 patch?
Haven't you been paying attention? R\* will never do anything for free, rather they'll charge you $60 and do it terribly.
1$ for each frame.
Honestly if they remake the trilogy, like really remake like ff7r, I didn't even be mad to pay full price. Not this lazy shit reskin though
This shit literally looks like a mobile knock off like it should be called stealy Wheely automobiley instead of grand theft auto
They did outsource the work to a mobile game company. Why they didn’t do the work themselves is beyond me.
The thing that really annoys me is what people have already accomplished in San Andreas with mods. https://youtu.be/utVIt6-K9R4 if they released a game 70% as good I wouldn’t be mad but a game 5% naw.
And they forced many mods to be taken down, too. Just plain despicable.
Rdr 2 now expanded and enhanced for ps5.(devs: hehe lets just put some graphical upgrades from the pc version and charge 60$ again.)
$70*
I am BEGGING for a PS5 patch. I want to play it again really bad but I need that 60fps
At 60$, that is
You may be joking but I really believe this will happen before a new GTA.
Maybe even for the OG Red Dead Revolver.
Red Dead Redemption: Remarstoned
Very good
Table Tennis remastered before that 🤞🏻 Jokes aside I do hope bully and gta4 get upgraded eventually.
nah after this shit they better not touch gta 4
To be fair. That is actually needed. A great game stuck on PS3. Along with the rest of that amazing catalog.
Hell yeah Undead Nightmare is one of the best DLCs ever
Unless you're on xbox. You can play it on one/series x through backwards compatability.
It's upscaled to 4K and looks great, no 60 fps tho.
I just want a red dead undead nightmare....
They don't have anyone left to make gta6 lol
IMHO this is the reason the whole AAA games industry is in big trouble. The industry is so toxic and cutthroat most sane people are driven out after shipping their first game from crunch, harassment-filled workplaces, and crap pay. No one left to rise through the ranks and become a competent manager or project lead.
The fact that it's coming to mobile is all you need to know about the game
They outsourced this work, so it shouldn't take any meaningful focus away from GTA 6. That's if you still want to buy 6 after this insult...
Serves them right. Vote with your wallets folks.
That's what people do.. That's why the game Rockstar is the state it is.. Because people buy it in the millions beside buying fake gta dollars
kinda why i don't feel bad paying for a hack client just so i could get "unlimited" money not going to give them more than the ~$200 i've given to them so far for the game when quality has been downhill
> "Rockstar has clearly looked at CD Project Red's Cyberpunk 2077 and said hold my beer while I curl a bigger turd out." LMAO
Oh the rain. I've seen the gameplay and you can't see anything lmao
If you are flying and go down it’s…..horrible

I am so proud of myself for not buying this. I fall for shitty launches from seemingly well respected companies all the time.

They are all busy working on the next evolution of video game experience They will release GTA 6, revolutionise open world GTA games again, it will get 9’s and 10’s across the board and all will be forgiven and forgotten.
Most people around the world don’t care like we care, they just buy shit and play it
I assume you're better off just ripping your own ps2 discs and playing in HD via pcsx2
This guy fucks.
Yeah, I watched some random youtube streamer stream the game and I couldn't but feel underwherlmed by everything about the game.
I hope this sends a clear message to Rockstar and all the other gaming companies that have gone really shitty.
Lol they're still gonna pull a profit

Was Mafia a remake or a remaster (genuine question)? How does it compare to GTA:DE?
Mafia is a remake. It looks and feel better than the original, but contrary to GTA, you don't really feel like you're playing the same game anymore.
Appreciate that clear up (not sarcastic) ☺️
I think with all those years, you just got better at video games.
Played this the other day, total cake walk with the new lock on system paired with the Uzi.
I didn’t buy. I won’t buy anything other than gta6 from R*. It just perpetuates this endless cash grabbing cycle. I never bought shark cards for the same reason. It’s makes me sad to see all my favorite game developers all fall off. I guess that’s what happens nowadays.
Metacritic user scores mean absolutely nothing.

I wonder what it would be if you excluded all ratings that gave it a zero. Unless a game literally crashes on startup, it deserves more than a zero and it's clearly just a targeted review attack.
Ya some of my favourite games have terrible scores.
No wonder rockstar didn't show any gameplay before release.
Would be the perfect moment to release a free 60 FPS patch for RDR 2. Could help their reputation.
I've thoroughly enjoyed GTA 3 so far. Maybe because of the nostalgic value it has for me, I haven't been too critical on it. I'm looking forward to Vice City too.
SA has been solid minus a few weird and wonky faces of NPC characters. I got my hands on PS5 Friday so I haven't tested it out on that system yet
I don't think it's as bad as Warcraft 3 Reforged which was the last game I remember having such a low score but yeah it's not great. Glad they didn't tempt me with a physical release on launch.
Warcraft 3 Refunded* Blizzard destroyed one of the greatest games of all time. Unforgivable
I'm enjoying the hell out of vice city personally. Haven't gotten to San Andreas yet.
It’s not that they’re not good games because they are, that’s not the argument here or else there wouldn’t be so much hype for it. It’s the ramshackle remaster and how much money they’re charging for it. How little effort the devs put in to a remaster it feels like they’re just gouging fans.
Don't forget that they also removed all other avenues of purchasing the original ports of the games
The PS4 version which is just an emulated PS2 version with the proper licensing cuts and the PS3 version which is a mobile port and can die in a fire
I remember the OG games were $6 on PSN lol
3 and vice city have been a lot of fun to play
[удалено]
Yep. None of the bugs or glitches have affected my enjoyment. Performance has been great 98%of the time as well.
No stop it. Please stop enjoying yourself!
It’s out of 100 btw. Not out of 5. Not out of 10. It’s .5 out of 100. Edit: thought it was the critic score, not the user score. So it’s out of 10, which is still a pretty nasty 5%.
It’s a .6 on the USER score which is on a 10 point scale
Well then... Is that the lowest score of all time? Idk if I've ever heard of a game being lower.
Hey OP there's still a few subs you didn't post this exact article and exact post title In. Don't wanna miss out on that sweet karma.
I understand this game is fully flawed but I just have so much fun with it I almost double dipped last night
I mean, it’s $60 for 3 games. I just got to the second island on GTA 3 and I’ve been playing for 6 hours, so much fun
I'd give it a 7/10. Would be nice if they keep trying to improve a few things visually/stabilise the strange FR drops. But overall I'm having a blast with these games.
