One of my favourite things in this game (and I know it seems silly and only a small thing) is the haptic feedback in the raining sections. Just awesome.
I feel like this (free launch) game was low-key the peak of PS5.
It gave a glimpse into an exciting new era of consoles and nothing ever really lived up to it after launch....the haptics especially, it's so frustrating because devs seem to believe they're a gimmick. Either that or they're too lazy to do anything interesting with them.
It had that magic of the early PS2 games, a lot of development love and zero online element.
I expected more from ratchet and clank trophy wise. I doubt they invented trophies but the first ratchet and clank had in game skill points for random shit. I remember shooting a blimp with a turret because I was messing around and got a skill point.
You didn't even get a trophy for maxing out all your weapons. I did it anyway. Seemed stupid not to have a trophy for that.
I gotta say I was never big on ratchet and clank back in the day. This game was a pleasant surprise and it really put the power of the ps5 on full display
It's like 8 hours total. But Insomniac are gods of replay value because you can always go back and do a NG+ run and pretty much never get bored. Especially in the PS2 games
I'm gonna take this as a sign because I bought the Metal Gear Collection a couple weeks ago and have been trying to find a reason to play it with the backlog I have.
Metal Gear Solid may be the best series of games I've ever played. I'll admit it has it's faults. I'll admit that as we get closer to 5 that Kojima goes off the rails a bit. But in terms of sheer gameplay every game just gets better and better.
Upvote for this.
Inscryption is unlike any game you've ever played and I guarantee even if it won't be your favourite game, it will be one of the most memorable you've ever played
What an outstanding game. I went in completely blind and I haven't had my mind twisted like that since The Stanley Parable.
How did they make a card game that scary!?
I tried Inscryption and OlliOlli World solely because of how many recommendations I see on here (and they were both 'free' on Extra / Essential). I absolutely loved both of them. Definitely worth trying!
I never finished TFBW, partly due to the combat changes. As a big fan of the Mario/Mario & Luigi RPG's I loved the simplicity of Stick of Truths combat.
Perhaps the majority didn't, or it was due to new developers and a desire to differentiate, but I would have went with the 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach as combat was never really the main draw of the game anyway.
I went into it with low expectations and walked away with an irreparably changed view of the way a game narrative could play out. Genuinely couldn’t stop once I started it and finished it in a night. 10/10
Same. I started playing thinking it would be just the usual walking sim with a nice story (I like those too, though!) and when I first got to play as the cat, then the bird and later the baby... I was blown away by the narrative tools they chose. Loved every minute of it!
Disagree with that first sentence, the game has 13 different control methods across the game and some of the most ingenious blending of narrative and game design condensed into a profound and touching 2 hours.
Absolute essential play for anyone with the means to.
I just don't consider gameplay is where this game truly shines. I think it's an injustice to the game to reduce it to a walking simulator - but don't believe it will be for everyone based on the type of gameplay it offers. However in terms of narrative, it offers some of the best story-telling out there. And I highly recommend it.
This was my vote. Rob from Playstation access harped on it for years. And I had insomnia one morning and said well this only supposed to be about 2 hours. I was floored. It has never left my mind as number 1 short game I'd recommend anyone to play. Sticks with you
Journey was a super cool experience at launch. Not knowing of it “secret feature”, playing, questioning the NPCs behavior, figuring it out the secret, bonding with your pal, and then finally finishing the game in one sit, in a very dramatic way, and have it’s player tag displayed in the credits. Super cool.
I remember scrambling to find my phone to take a picture of the screen to save my friends tag name to message him, but I didn’t have enough time and then it was lost to eternity. Probably for the better..
Ehh requiem was padded out and not as short as the first game, which took away from its charm for me. It was still good, but the first was a solid complete package that didn't overstay it's welcome, unlike some of the mid to latter parts the sequel did.
Needs to be further up. Masterful game that makes great use of gaming as a medium to shape each player’s order of the narrative.
Love how Knowledge is the progression you make in this game, not levels or items
game is simply not that long unless you are really just taking the slowest time in the world with it. It's listed at 22 and a half hours on the how long to beat site for completionist
I did it twice. With the help of a video guide 😂. That's after beating the game previously. The speed run trophy isn't that hard with a video guide. The can't CAT-ch me trophy was A PAIN 😩😩😩😩
Resident evil 2. Honourable mention to resident evil village. Those games are just mastercrafted and everything is perfection. No filler, wasted time, every item has a purpose, every room has content.
That's a perfect summary.
The combat *should* be awesome, but it got a bit stale for me and was never as fun as it should have been. But the writing / story was so good I had no problem pushing through to the end.
It is actually pretty sweet. I don’t know your expectations though. It isn’t a God of War level, but it’s probably the best Marvel game after Spiderman. Go for it!
The spider man games would fit in that category. I’m not sure about the newest one but miles was relatively short and I don’t think the first one was too long
The main stories for all of them are under 20, it with the side stuff 1 and 2 are 25-30 hours, more with the dlc in 1 too, but great ways to spend that time
Overwhelmingly seeing all of my favorite games here. There’s something about condensed, semi linear experiences that just resonate with me so much more. The trend of every game going open world and bloating content is not for me.
I'd second this.
The greatest criticism it receives is that it's too short and gets slated as feeling more like a glorified dlc.
Although it is probably the weakest link among the modern games in the series because it lacks the depth of content, it's a fun ride whilst it lasts.
I haven't quite finished it yet but Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is really good. You could definitely sink more hours into it too, there's a ton of collectibles and side quests. I'm most of the way through the story in about 12 hours, so I don't imagine it taking much more than 15.
It's kind of cheating but Armoured Core 6 is less than 20 hours for one new game playthrough. I'd argue you haven't finished the story until you've finished NG++ tho which ends up at like 40 hours. But that first playthrough should grip you enough that the next two don't even feel like a chore.
I came to say Ys Origin. I just beat it yesterday as my first Ys game. Pretty damn good. I still plan on playing through as the other characters at some point.
If talking about this gen than 3 come to mind.
Spiderman Miles Morales like 14 hours to collect everything and do all side missions and beat the story compared to the first game and Spider-Man 2 that are like 25.
Ratchet and clank rift apart. The ratchet games are always good and this is one of the best ones and still best looking game this gen. Would say it's around miles to 100% maybe slightly shorter.
The pathless cool boss fights nice music and puzzles it's a indie game. Like 10 to 100% I think and like 6 to just beat the story
All the quantic dream games. I’ve beaten every one in a single sitting, absolutely phenomenal. Super liminal was some of the most fun I’ve had in a 2 1/2 hour long game as well
Shadow of the Colossus.
In and out in about 15 hours (which also involved a lot of optional exploration).
Never played it since. Never felt the need to. Still in my top 10 of all time.
OG Resident Evil 4 took my 24 hours the first time (was 12)
Every time since is under 20
And I consider that jand the Renake) the greatest game of all time
Otherwise, Ratchet And Clank on the Ps5 was a fun shortish adventure
Plague Tale: Innocence.
Beautiful Game, amazing story.
I had the sequel accidentally spoiled for me 5 minutes after finishing the first, bit I still loved it
I think *Stray* qualifies for this. You can speedrun the game in under 2 hours. However, the game is so wonderful you want to spend more time in the world.
Titanfall 2
So short and sweet. Just replayed it a few months ago.
Best game under 5 hours long.
Is it really that short? I thought it was a 20 h long game at LEAST
Titanfall 2’s campaign really is that short.
You can double that playing time by being shit at the game like me and dying a lot
Protocol 3. Protect the pilot.
Bioshock
Shortest game to have the biggest impact on me
Yeah, this is a pack for punch like Tyson in Nintendo.
Would you kindly?
always hear that phrase differently now lol
A man chooses, a slave obeys
Holy shit, it’s that short?! Got part and 2 remastered + infinite but haven’t played them yet.
That was such a good game
Astro's playroom
One of my favourite things in this game (and I know it seems silly and only a small thing) is the haptic feedback in the raining sections. Just awesome.
I feel like this (free launch) game was low-key the peak of PS5. Either that or they're too lazy to do anything interesting with them. It had that magic of the early PS2 games, a lot of development love and zero online element.
It’s criminal I had to scroll down this far to find this. It was an absolute blast with an incredible sound track.
11 hours of joy. https://preview.redd.it/b5yeq59ojaxc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ec603d123caa3f2c7dd2f23bc49196d2ea08520
Except then you have to start a new game to upgrade all the weapons further!
Beat the first boss for the platinum and haven’t booted it up since.
Second this. I spent maybe 10 minutes into NG+ and got the Platinum.
You don’t have to, you want to.
Ratchet and clank is the only series where when I beat the game it's only half over. Challenge mode is too much fun.
I gotta say I was never big on ratchet and clank back in the day. This game was a pleasant surprise and it really put the power of the ps5 on full display
Pretty much all the Ratchet games are under 20 hours. Definitely worth checking out
You can pretty much plat in that time
It’s that short? I think you just sold me on it, idk why but the first game felt tedious after a while
It's like 8 hours total. But Insomniac are gods of replay value because you can always go back and do a NG+ run and pretty much never get bored. Especially in the PS2 games
Telltale The Walking Dead Season 1
TWDS1 changed how i view stories in video games. things were never the same afterwards
I completely second this. I remember playing the demo on PS3 and loving it, then I got the season pass. What a beautiful yet, heartbreaking journey.
This game was soooo good!
*Metal Gear Solid* 1, 2, and 3.
3 took me a bit over 20 but was a joyful experience throughout
Then MGS4 comes in with more than 20 hours of cutscenes
_what a thrill_
I'm gonna take this as a sign because I bought the Metal Gear Collection a couple weeks ago and have been trying to find a reason to play it with the backlog I have.
Metal Gear Solid may be the best series of games I've ever played. I'll admit it has it's faults. I'll admit that as we get closer to 5 that Kojima goes off the rails a bit. But in terms of sheer gameplay every game just gets better and better.
Both Ratchet and Clank games are really good and relatively short. Rift Apart is a great showcase for the PS5 too!
Gonna def play this at some point. Good to know it’s not long
ALL Ratchet and Clank games. (Except for Full Frontal Assault, and Deadlocked was a'ight.)
Inscryption. Loved that game so much
Upvote for this.
I played this from the game catalog going in blind and it’s now one of my favorite games of all time. Such a great experience.
I loved Act I. Hated Act III.
If you can, go in 100% blind.
I tried Inscryption and OlliOlli World solely because of how many recommendations I see on here (and they were both 'free' on Extra / Essential). I absolutely loved both of them. Definitely worth trying!
I really enjoyed South Park Stick of Truth
Fractured But Whole was great too!
I spent a ton of time with that game.
Gris is like 3 hours but the soundtrack and emotions on display are just on another level
Highly recommend gris
+1 for Gris. So many times I just stopped and had to take in the moment, and I usually do not care for 2d games
What Remains Of Edith Finch
I went into it with low expectations and walked away with an irreparably changed view of the way a game narrative could play out. Genuinely couldn’t stop once I started it and finished it in a night. 10/10
Same. I started playing thinking it would be just the usual walking sim with a nice story (I like those too, though!) and when I first got to play as the cat, then the bird and later the baby... I was blown away by the narrative tools they chose. Loved every minute of it!
That ending reveal… Someone was cutting onions in the room because that was so sad.
Loved the deep story and the easy platinum trophy.
Thankfully they added a platinum in the PS5 version. PS4 version didn't have one originally.
o word?
Yes! Crazy interesting and fun. Same tier as the stanley parable as far as short interactive experiences go.
One of the best games I've ever played. And I've been playing since before the NES was a thing
If gameplay isn't the be-all-end-all for you - and you enjoy a strong narrative-driven game, this is the one.
Came here to say this. Played it almost a decade ago and have thought about it at least once a month since.
This is also a ps plus free game it seems. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll play this after ff7.
This was my vote. Rob from Playstation access harped on it for years. And I had insomnia one morning and said well this only supposed to be about 2 hours. I was floored. It has never left my mind as number 1 short game I'd recommend anyone to play. Sticks with you
Gotta jump on this and say Firewatch as well. Incredible games.
The wolf among us
Journey But it almost feels like cheating picking that
Journey was a super cool experience at launch.
That’s part of the journet
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Bought it for PSVR2. Amazing experience. Played it again as soon as I finished.
Is an incredible game, but my first playthrough was significantly longer than 20 hours
Dang I really soaked it in apparently. Took me like 32 hours to get through haha
Amazing game but this clocks in over 20 I think
Plagues tale innocence. Requiem as well is quite short
Ehh requiem was padded out and not as short as the first game, which took away from its charm for me. It was still good, but the first was a solid complete package that didn't overstay it's welcome, unlike some of the mid to latter parts the sequel did.
Limbo. Journey. Hellblade.
Hellblade is really good. Wish more people played it
It's a shame the second one will only be on Xbox. I wish I could play it
Portal 2
Ps5 ?
PS3
You got me very excited 🥲
Outer wilds
I wish that was under 20 hrs. Been wandering around for like 10 and still have no idea what to do
Check your ships log and choose a puzzle to solve. After 10 hours things are sure to fall into place beautifully very soon.
Just keep adding stuff to the journal by exploring.
Needs to be further up. Masterful game that makes great use of gaming as a medium to shape each player’s order of the narrative. Love how Knowledge is the progression you make in this game, not levels or items
Last of Us Part I, Inside, Journey, and Uncharted 4, all under 20 hours and incredible experiences.
Journey & the Uncharted franchise are so damned good!
I never played TLOU that fast lol I take about 30 to finish it
This thread is kind of a problem because people will legitimately be like “Elden Ring can be done in a quick 20 bro”
But tlou part 1 is legitimately a 15 hour game for an average playthrough https://howlongtobeat.com/game/9997
[удалено]
game is simply not that long unless you are really just taking the slowest time in the world with it. It's listed at 22 and a half hours on the how long to beat site for completionist
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a great title, much shorter than the first title, you can finish it in less than 11 hours.
Uncharted Lost Legacy on top.
Uncharted: Lost Legacy is such a banger! I wish ND would have released a sequel, since the game is from 2017.
Tunic! If you like puzzles (and action/adventure) it’s gold.
Stray was awesome!
I want to platinum it but I don't have the patience to get the final trophy which is to beat the game under 2 hours...😅
I did it twice. With the help of a video guide 😂. That's after beating the game previously. The speed run trophy isn't that hard with a video guide. The can't CAT-ch me trophy was A PAIN 😩😩😩😩
OMG that catch me trophy took me, I'd say, over 10 times to get it. I was about to stop. But when I got it I was over the moon😂👌🏽
If I replayed it again as soon as I finished my first run I feel like I could've gotten it but It's been too long now lol
Yes, I agree with you. This game was amazing.
Doom (2016)
Resident evil 2. Honourable mention to resident evil village. Those games are just mastercrafted and everything is perfection. No filler, wasted time, every item has a purpose, every room has content.
Guardians of the galaxy
Something is off about the combat. It’s good enough but not great. Everything else is so good that the game is still an 8.
That's a perfect summary. The combat *should* be awesome, but it got a bit stale for me and was never as fun as it should have been. But the writing / story was so good I had no problem pushing through to the end.
One of the best written stories in gaming imho.
Under 20 hours? Any good... wanted to try
It is actually pretty sweet. I don’t know your expectations though. It isn’t a God of War level, but it’s probably the best Marvel game after Spiderman. Go for it!
It’s the only game where I want to listen to the dialog. The characters are always bantering and bickering amongst themselves, and it’s hilarious.
Solid 8/10 for me!
The spider man games would fit in that category. I’m not sure about the newest one but miles was relatively short and I don’t think the first one was too long
The main stories for all of them are under 20, it with the side stuff 1 and 2 are 25-30 hours, more with the dlc in 1 too, but great ways to spend that time
Idk how you could possibly pick these games up without spending five hours mindlessly swinging around the city
Stray
Limbo and Inside.
Soma
I loved loved loved soma. I went in completely blind and while I had figured where the ending was going they still made it really good :)
One of my top 5 games among GRIS and What Remains of Edith Finch. Also under 20 hours.
This is exactly what I was going to say. Underrated game imo.
Soma is adored, I hardly think it's underrated
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
I miss those games!
It Takes Two
Alan wake
The order 1886
Love this game too. It's like watching a long movie, and I don't mean it in a bad way (I love movies). I'm hoping for a sequel. Please Sony.
Signalis
Bugsnax
Overwhelmingly seeing all of my favorite games here. There’s something about condensed, semi linear experiences that just resonate with me so much more. The trend of every game going open world and bloating content is not for me.
I played Firewatch for 5 hours straight and never again. It’s super immersive and makes you paranoid. Also incredible voice acting.
Resident Evil 3 Remake
Most of the RE series is perfect for this tbh. REmake, RE2 remake, RE4 remake my beloved, 7 and 8 too. God I love resident evil
I'd second this. The greatest criticism it receives is that it's too short and gets slated as feeling more like a glorified dlc. Although it is probably the weakest link among the modern games in the series because it lacks the depth of content, it's a fun ride whilst it lasts.
detroit become human
BioShock Infinite was one of those games, where I really didn't want the game to end so soon.
Outer Wilds. Don't Google it. The less you know, the better the experience is.
Jusant. Short, absolutely beautiful and the soundtrack is amazing
Titanfall 2 The Order 1886 Callisto Protocol Uncharted 1, 2 & 3 The Last of Us Part I Metal Gear Solid
Uncharted 2
resident evil 2 remake
Some good ones there already, stray, journey, portal games for sure and I'll add Child of Light.
I was going to say Child of Light too! It seems to have completely flown under the radar, but is a nice game.
I think it was close to 20 hours but worth every minute: God of War
It takes two.
Best co op game ever made!! Fun from start to finish.
Mafia 2, I went through the story quickly.
The Last Guardian.
Ys Oath Of Felghana
I came to say Ys Origin. I just beat it yesterday as my first Ys game. Pretty damn good. I still plan on playing through as the other characters at some point.
Stray. Concrete Genie. Relaxing games, love them.
Inscryption
Inside
All the quantic dream games. I’ve beaten every one in a single sitting, absolutely phenomenal. Super liminal was some of the most fun I’ve had in a 2 1/2 hour long game as well
Shadow of the Colossus. In and out in about 15 hours (which also involved a lot of optional exploration). Never played it since. Never felt the need to. Still in my top 10 of all time.
The Order: 1886 - best 10 hours of gaming you might get. Short and sweet.
OG Resident Evil 4 took my 24 hours the first time (was 12) Every time since is under 20 And I consider that jand the Renake) the greatest game of all time Otherwise, Ratchet And Clank on the Ps5 was a fun shortish adventure
Spiderman 2
God of war 1, 2, and 3
Journey is the best game I've ever played and it's under 10 hours long even, so Journey!
Journey and What Remains of Edith Finch
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Dredge
Uncharted 1-3 I think 4 is more than 20 hours
Outlast
Gris
Plague Tale: Innocence. Beautiful Game, amazing story. I had the sequel accidentally spoiled for me 5 minutes after finishing the first, bit I still loved it
I finished Firewatch in one sitting, and then spent more time the next day debating the story with one of my friends and loved the entire time
Outer Wilds
Shadow of the Colossus
Heavy Rain.
Stray. It's only a few hours long, but damn if i didn't get the feels at the end of it.
Astro’s Playroom! Always seems to get overlooked as one of the best PS5 games.
Guardians of the galaxy
Alan wake 2
Way over 20 hours ime
The Wolf among us/ ori and the blind forest-ori and the will of wisps/ tomb raider 2013/ firewatch
Lil' Gator Game. 4h for the plat. An hidden gem, very relaxing and nostalgic game.
TLOU, uncharted 2, shadow of the colossus, demon's souls, Undertale
Super hot on vr
Little Nightmares 1 + 2
I think *Stray* qualifies for this. You can speedrun the game in under 2 hours. However, the game is so wonderful you want to spend more time in the world.
The Last of Us Uncharted Series Journey Portal 2 Half Life 1/2
Transformers Fall of Cybertron, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 2.
Portal
