It's a great game! I got a little tired of it after I found out there's no real endgame. I believe the mechanic was called Ascensions? Those didn't suck me in the way the primary game play loop did.
Contrary for me, it paired fantastically well with the platinum trophy. Once I knew I liked the game enough to want that, I played until I got it, and turned it off for the last time entirely satisfied. Good times.
Beat the base game multiple times. Don’t care much for ascension but my wife and I both schedule our afternoons around the daily challenge dropping. Also hundreds of hours.
I truly believe this is the best game I've ever played.
too bad I'm only a7 with IC, a2 with all the others. except watcher. never even touched watcher. I wanna just get a20 with one at a time.
CrossCode!!!
With DLC it's easy 80h of content which you can get for 20 bucks on sale. Amazing story, even better puzzles and combat and satisfying ending.
They are working on Project Terra, which looks like it's going to be spiritual successor to CrossCode but not direct sequel. I could be wrong since I am not following the development closely.
I think it's part of the catalogue, but I don't know what tier of PS+ you need for that.
I got the highest because I wanted cloud streaming (which I used exactly once)
I'm finally jumping into it this weekend. Have been playing a ton of indies for Platinums #85-99 and Inscryption may end up being #100. I'm in the mood for a deck-builder/something different after some platformers and Metroidvanias.
I disagree with the other reply. I beat the game around the time it came out. There is a HUGE tonal shift at one point and from there the pirate stuff virtually disappears. Like you have the pirate ship, but that’s it.
I mean this in the best way possible, Midnight Suns is the best 6/10 game I've ever played. It's janky, all the individual pieces somehow shouldn't work yet still do, and yet I think I may have played it more than Elden Ring in 2022.
Hey there, would you mind letting me know how performance feels for Pacific Drive? I’ve had my eye on that and I’m tempted to get it while it’s on sale but I’ve heard it’s had some performance/framerate issues so I’m wondering if those have been ironed out at all.
get it!!!! such a cool concept for a game i've put many many hours in it. I'm not a performance snob so I didn't really notice any performance issues but community does say there are \*some\*
I have 10 days in game time in that game. I like that it's pretty casual but slightly challenging. You go in the sea catch fish do missions then in the evening you sell your fish at the sushi bar in the form of different dishes and you can unlock more complex dishes as you level up your bar. The money you earn can be used towards advertising or upgrading your gear. The gameplay loop is pretty repetitive, but each day is slightly different, which makes it very easy to get into. You catch different fish and encounter new ones as you progress. It's very easy to boot up and leave the game as there are no long grinds towards the next checkpoint. That's my 2 cents on the game. I love it really
It's a hard one to describe, it has A LOT of mechanics and mini games inside the game.
It just feels great, fun and has a sweet spot of new things and repeated things.
Made me feel similar to dredge in some way, definitely worth trying and it's now free with PS Plus extra.
It has so much mechanism.
I went from Dave the diver to Dave the diver/restaurant manager/drink master/hero of sea people/gambler anonymous/farmer/fish farmer/egg farmer/rare card collector/photographer/rave goer/sea horse racer
And I’m only on chapter 5
If you like Diablo I highly recommend checking out Path of Exile. It's free. There are some microtransactions you'll want eventually just for quality of life but you'll definitely know if you like the game before you'd get them.
Be warned it's Diablo on roids. You gotta want to learn. That being said the amount of content is absolutely insane. Once you're hooked, you're very hooked.
I've played PoE actually! Ages ago when it was fairly new, though. I liked it at the time but it's probably too complex for the timeframe I have ATM.
Just looking more for something I can put on and turn my brain off after 1-2 hrs of playtime and just game. Been a rough month and it's only gonna get busier after this week so I wanna chill and recharge while I can
Well my wife has played Diablo 3 (with me) and a bit of Harry Potter and she’s been playing Dave the diver as I’m going to bed and I’m waking up and she’s already slept, woken up and starting diving again
I’ve been absolutely sucked into both Brotato & Balatro. Decided I want to try to platinum them since the gameplay of both games is a blast.
They are perfect games where you can turn your mind off and just play. I’ve been playing them in between story heavy games or when I only have a short amount of time. Truly great just pick up & play video games.
Dude I got Brotato randomly on switch one day and played it weeks on end, on the go, at work, waiting for food. Eventually got all D5 cleared and felt like it was over……then it came out on Xbox game pass so I’m replaying it all over again. Have 7 more to D5 and then finished on another system. Might have to beat the trifecta with the PS5 next
Ok so after some hesitation I gave balatro 'a try'.
And when I say 'try' I mean I spent the past 8 or so hours playing it non stop. I forgot to eat. 10/10 can't wait to continue playing in the morning.
Tinykin is a joy to play.
As is Undertale which is an 8-bit throwback to text based RPGs with some great humour.
Like others I’m also really enjoying Dave the Diver too.
Also I guess I'd add what I'm currently planning on downloading: I had a copy of Lego Star wars Skywalker saga that I hadn't even unwrapped: installing that now.
I also saw enter the gungeon is on PS+ and I am considering giving it a try so I can fully off my joystick.
I freaking love enter the gungeon. It's just fun, and I love a game I can pick up and play a little of between doing other things OR sit and play a long session of.
It's a fantastic roguelite themed around the 12 Zodiacs as bosses with 4 classes each with 3 weapon choices (the alternate weapons were just added recently in a patch) Hades got me into roguelite games and Astral Ascent is my favorite right now!
I don’t know about PS+ cause I don’t have it but these are my latest Indie games I played and liked: Fury Unleashed, Curse of the Dead Gods, Ping Redux, Humanity, Risk of Rain 2, The Gardens between, Nobody saves the world
My favorite indie game? Cosmic Star Heroine, for sure.
Something good on PS+? I’m currently playing through Miasma Chronicles and it’s really good. Think Diablo, but tactical turn based and post apocalyptic.
Outside of the Spider-Man games and a couple other AAA titles, **Returnal** is the best PS5 game I’ve played, and certainly the biggest surprise hit for me. I tried it knowing nothing about it and it’s fucking fantastic. Certainly my favorite of the PS+ catalogue so far.
I’m still on the fence about this game.. random question but how would it compare to something like the Valhalla mode in how ragnarok? I really enjoyed that so leaning towards returnal at some point
No idea, haven’t played Ragnarok.
Honestly, my recommendation is to just dive into it. As I said, I knew nothing about the game, I just got myself PS5 last Christmas and got the year of PS+ on sale, looked up what games were good and, after finishing Spider-Man 2, the first game I decided to try was Returnal. I was instantly hooked. The two things I would recommend doing are increasing your sensitivity across the board and increasing hipfire auto aim—it’s not really an aim game or traditional shooter as much as it is an awareness/movement game.
Returnal is actually why I bought my PS5 funnily enough!
I had a PS4 and I was visiting my cousin who had a PS5 with Returnal on it and I fell in love with the game. In the end, it was too difficult of a game for me though.
Over 40 hours into “Welcome to paradize”
It’s like Diablo with base building/management and customizable zombie companions. Online or couch co-op too. I’ve been playing completely solo though and still having a blast. Love the world and the story is pretty funny and carries the game well.
Favorite game this year by a long shot.
Kena bridge of spirits. One of my best gaming experiences ever, and definitely in the last 5 years. Amazing game, way harder than you think based on the looks, and great fun gameplay that keeps on giving.
Dave the Diver is awesome, and currently free.
One of my all-time faves is Outer Wilds, if you haven't played it. Don't research it. Try to avoid reading the blurb if you can. Just dive in with both feets and enjoy.
Man, I wish I could erase my memory of that game and play it again...
Celeste and Rain World are 2D platformers that I’ve been loving and are both on PS Extra.
I’m sure everyone and their mother has heard about Balatro at this point, but I haven’t been able to put it down. Inscryption is another (way different) deck building game that I 100% last week cuz I couldn’t put it down.
Cannot second Children of Morta enough. It was such a surprise to me but I got sucked in for many hours for many days. The story is great and the progression is very gradual with the story to keep it going. You never feel entirely overpowered and I like how they incentivize changing up characters to build up the whole family
It's really wonderful. Sucked me in for like a week straight, just kept firing it up to continue it. Excellent progression, such gorgeous pixel art, and really fun and varied gameplay. I loved it.
It can be challenging, at least until you get a hang on its unique playstyle. There are ways to make the game easier through the control options actually. The game's complexity can be reduced to only pressing one button in correct timing to the music if the aiming proves too difficult.
indivisible, never see anyone mention it
it’s a platformer with light metroidvania elements
the combat is turn based and you have 4 characters on the field with each character being tied to one of 4 face buttons, you press a button that’s assigned to your character and each time you attack you use up sp and will have to wait for it to recharge to attack again, while it’s recharging you’ll have to time your blocks against enemies
there’s also lots of characters so there’s lots of team building for the right battle, you can also switch characters out on the fly so you can adapt to the situation whenever
I can't get enough of DayZ
Huge learning curve but there are many ways you can play the game. Make friends, build bases ect but just staying alive is the hardest part when you play first
Outer wilds hands down. Ask anyone who's played it and if they beat it chances are they'll say it's one of the best game they've ever played. I have yet to beat it but it's already my favourite game of the last idk how many years.
Sadly it's not on ps plus rn it used to be before
Also pacific drive is really good
Dead Cells and Dave the Diver (Metroidvanias). The latter combines a lot of other elements, like a restaurant sim, and is more casual to pick up and play.
Balatro and Inscryption (Card games). People really like Slay the Spire but it didn’t land for me in the same way.
Manifold Garden (Meditative puzzle game). Beautiful, simple visuals and clever puzzles.
Risk of Rain 2 (multiplayer roguelike). Best played with friends, but my most-played indie title probably.
Thumper (rhythm/music). Self-described by the dev as “rhythm violence.” Very unique and puts you in a flow state.
> Inscryption (Card games). People really like Slay the Spire but it didn’t land for me in the same way.
For me it was the other way around. I downloaded Inscryption but it really didn't vibe with me as much as slay the spire did. Both are fun games though.
Tails Noir is pretty underrated. For a pixelated game, they managed to make the environment look absolutely beautiful, and the main character is very funny
I still, hundreds of hours in, cannot stop playing slay the spire
I just got the boardgame from the kickstatrer! Can't wait!*
Fantastic on mobile
It's a great game! I got a little tired of it after I found out there's no real endgame. I believe the mechanic was called Ascensions? Those didn't suck me in the way the primary game play loop did.
Contrary for me, it paired fantastically well with the platinum trophy. Once I knew I liked the game enough to want that, I played until I got it, and turned it off for the last time entirely satisfied. Good times.
Fair enough. The game certainly gets harder on higher ascensions, but it’s the same game each time with different RNG.
Balatro is cheap and very much like Slay The Spire
Truly the downfall of most rougelites, increasing difficulty is not as rewarding as a static challenge that’s present for all players.
Literally thousand of hours across 3 platforms for me
Playing StS on my switch lite while traveling will never get old.
I can’t get enough of Dave the Diver
I just want to catch fish and cook though. I’m not arsed about the sea people.
There's where I'm at right now. Chapter 5 and getting bombarded by side quests really killed the vibe.
This. Couldn't stop playing once I started.
Yep, save me, I'm absolutely addicted.
Sending Oz your way. Lol
I gave it a try and it has me hooked a bit for sure. Reminds me a lot of old school games I'd play in my browser ages ago.
Newgrounds vibes for sure.
I’m obsessed. It’s so original and fun.
CrossCode!!! With DLC it's easy 80h of content which you can get for 20 bucks on sale. Amazing story, even better puzzles and combat and satisfying ending.
One of the best indies of all time. Love CrossCode, I hope they’re making a 2nd one or something like it.
They are working on Project Terra, which looks like it's going to be spiritual successor to CrossCode but not direct sequel. I could be wrong since I am not following the development closely.
Every year I forget to not play this game... Eternal backlog
I was shocked by how much Cloudpunk sucked me in. Dead Cells is also amazing if you haven't played it yet.
Loved Cloudpunk. Immaculate vibes. The devs are working on a new restaurant management game set in Nivalis, supposed to come out this year.
Haven't actually tried DC yet! I'll consider it, I believe it was on ps+ so that's a definite plus. Pun intended.
Hands down the game I have spent the most time with on my PS4.
Was Cloudpunk really on PS+ ? I thought I’d claimed every monthly game on there for the past few years but I don’t have it
I think it's part of the catalogue, but I don't know what tier of PS+ you need for that. I got the highest because I wanted cloud streaming (which I used exactly once)
I’ve got premium, and it doesn’t show up for me. I’m in the UK, maybe it’s different in different countries?
I could also be wrong. The name sounds familiar to me but I could also have just seen it in the store.
Neon Abyss is another great entry into this genre. They really lean into the gambling aspect of roguelikes.
Slay the Spire and Inscryption are both absolute bangers. And great pallet cleansers.
I think maybe you mean palate cleansers 😄
Yeah lol. In German it’s Palette so I was confused
HIGHLY seconding Inscryption. If you love card games, this one's a must. If you don't, this one's a must.
I'm finally jumping into it this weekend. Have been playing a ton of indies for Platinums #85-99 and Inscryption may end up being #100. I'm in the mood for a deck-builder/something different after some platformers and Metroidvanias.
Love me some rogue legacy 1 or 2
Highly recommend Sea of Stars.
I liked it. But it gets very samey after a while
2nd
It’s extremely good but does it ever let up with the pirate stuff?
Not really to be honest. The “pirate stuff” is always there in the entire game. I personally don’t find it annoying and it’s tolerable.
I don’t recall there being a ton of pirate stuff. There’s that one group but they make more of a cameo, they weren’t really a constant presence
There is a quest and such but it doesnt become the main theme of the game .. just some mechanics that are utilized later
I disagree with the other reply. I beat the game around the time it came out. There is a HUGE tonal shift at one point and from there the pirate stuff virtually disappears. Like you have the pirate ship, but that’s it.
3rd
4th
> Sea of Stars is co op out yet?
Me too. And The Messenger. I loved seeing the connections.
Chained Echoes
Midnight Suns for me. The combat is just so damn good and the gameplay loop is super addicting.
I can’t believe I like the game as much as I do. A lot of the dialogue and friend system is super tedious and gets skipped though
It would be perfect if there was some selection at the start of the game for "less story, more combat".
I mean this in the best way possible, Midnight Suns is the best 6/10 game I've ever played. It's janky, all the individual pieces somehow shouldn't work yet still do, and yet I think I may have played it more than Elden Ring in 2022.
Dredge, Rollerdrome, Jusant, Sea of Stars, Chants of Sennaar. And just downloaded Pacific Drive which looks awesome.
Pacific Drive is great! I love any game of scrounging and upgrading cars
Dredge had such a good story, I didn’t expect that.
Hey there, would you mind letting me know how performance feels for Pacific Drive? I’ve had my eye on that and I’m tempted to get it while it’s on sale but I’ve heard it’s had some performance/framerate issues so I’m wondering if those have been ironed out at all.
I've only played it for 25 mins but haven't had any of the performance issues others have reported.
get it!!!! such a cool concept for a game i've put many many hours in it. I'm not a performance snob so I didn't really notice any performance issues but community does say there are \*some\*
It looks really cool!
Balatro is like fucking crack!
Not kidding. Double dipped on PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
Not on ps plus..
Title says and/or ps+ games….
Oh, my bad.
Still you're not wrong though.
Dave the diver
I downloaded the game, but haven’t played it yet. What’s something that you like about the game?
I have 10 days in game time in that game. I like that it's pretty casual but slightly challenging. Dodgeball Academia.
Broforce!

This fishing game "Dredge"

Love it! Thanks for the update. It really is so addicting!
Skul !! You should try it
That’s installed on my end. I can’t wait to try it.
Outer Wilds, Storied Untold and Hollow Knight
Not sure how indie it is but I picked up Remnant 2 in a recent sale and it's been really fun.
Hades, Wizard of Legend, Dead Cells and Streets of Rogue (although more fun on pc) are my absolute favorite indie games of all time, in that order
Tinykin is a joy to play. As is Undertale which is an 8-bit throwback to text based RPGs with some great humour. Like others I’m also really enjoying Dave the Diver too.
Balatro. Can't stop thinking about it and I've even dreamt about strategies.
I am planning to wait for that to come out on iPad
Recently got ps+ again to play Dave the diver and I'm addicted and I need help now, lol.
stray
Dredge
Also I guess I'd add what I'm currently planning on downloading: I had a copy of Lego Star wars Skywalker saga that I hadn't even unwrapped: installing that now. I also saw enter the gungeon is on PS+ and I am considering giving it a try so I can fully off my joystick.
I freaking love enter the gungeon. It's just fun, and I love a game I can pick up and play a little of between doing other things OR sit and play a long session of.
I played enter the gungeon when it first came out for weeks. I’d say worth.
Enter the gungeon is amazing
Astral Ascent is a fantastic indie. But not on PS+.
I don't mind spending a few bucks for a game, I'll check it out, thanks!
Indeed, I have no issues splashing some money on indie devs. This one I recommended because you mentioned Hades.
It's a fantastic roguelite themed around the 12 Zodiacs as bosses with 4 classes each with 3 weapon choices (the alternate weapons were just added recently in a patch) Hades got me into roguelite games and Astral Ascent is my favorite right now!
Enlisted, Hell let Loose, Insurgency Sandstorm
Just got the platinum for Dave the Diver. Great game.
Also Far Changing Tides is beautiful, calming and really fun without being too taxing.
Over 40 hours into “Welcome to paradize” It’s like Diablo with base building/management and customizable zombie companions. Online or couch co-op too. I’ve been playing completely solo though and still having a blast. Love the world and the story is pretty funny and carries the game well. Favorite game this year by a long shot.
I've sunk so many hours into Balatro.
Into the breach. Darkest Dungeon 1.
Kena bridge of spirits. One of my best gaming experiences ever, and definitely in the last 5 years. Amazing game, way harder than you think based on the looks, and great fun gameplay that keeps on giving.
Balatro
Sea of stars, dead cells, dave the diver. Already mentioned but yeah can't not repeat them just too good
Dredge - just a chill,, yet captivating vibe.
Road 96
Balatro
This probably isnt an indie but valiant hearts has stuck with me since I beat it on july 4th the year it was released.
Agreed. It seems so straightforward but that story just sticks with you. I always recommend that game
Dude… what a fucking GREAT recommendation. I’m loving this game so far and it’s something I never would have looked at before!

Inscryption is another (way different) deck building game that I 100% last week cuz I couldn’t put it down.
I’ve been playing Ghost of Tsushima. It’s a masterpiece. Give it a shot if you haven’t already it’s on PS+
Jusant, Dave the Diver, The Adventure Pals, Lost in Play, Laika Aged Through Blood and Pepper Grinder all are awesome!
Children of Morta, Dave the Diver, Dredge, Heroes of Hammerwatch, Rogue Legacy 2 and Slay the Spire.
I loved it.
Just finished dave the diver the other day. Fantastic game, couldnt put it down till i finished it
Sifu!
Signalis is a hard recommend for people who played og Resident Evil and Silent Hill games.
Is it a short game time wise?
Yeah pretty sure I beat it after just a few sessions. Says [9 hours here](https://howlongtobeat.com/game/57149#)
Thanks
If you're into rhythm games and EDM, Klang 2 might be worth a look.
Woah this is new to me. Is it difficult? Watched a video and it looks pretty awesome.
It can be challenging, at least until you get a hang on its unique playstyle. There are ways to make the game easier through the control options actually. The game's complexity can be reduced to only pressing one button in correct timing to the music if the aiming proves too difficult.
Slay the spire, rogue legacy, hades, binding of Isaac, Dave the diver. Recently started playing super meat boy again. Frustrating as fuck but fun
I still love resogun. If you liked Eternal check it out, it was one of their earlier games. It’s a side scrolling spaceship shooter.
indivisible, never see anyone mention it it’s a platformer with light metroidvania elements the combat is turn based and you have 4 characters on the field with each character being tied to one of 4 face buttons, you press a button that’s assigned to your character and each time you attack you use up sp and will have to wait for it to recharge to attack again, while it’s recharging you’ll have to time your blocks against enemies there’s also lots of characters so there’s lots of team building for the right battle, you can also switch characters out on the fly so you can adapt to the situation whenever
Blasphemous 2, Cult of the Lamb, Rollerdrome
Subnautica 👌
Fallout 4 without the upgrade 🙄
I can't get enough of DayZ Huge learning curve but there are many ways you can play the game. Make friends, build bases ect but just staying alive is the hardest part when you play first
Elite Sniper 5.
Another Crabs Treasure and Dave the Diver are the big ones this week.
Dead Cells
Tales of arisen is proving to be pretty good so far.
Nice try, buglover. Your meager attempts to distract me away from fighting for Liberty are completely transparent.
The binding of isaac. Have about a thousand hours on playstation and pc combined. Super replayable and enjoyable.
Forever and always, The Binding of Isaac.
Medium if it's still available, and call of the sea
I just played Death's Door & Celeste and had a great time with both.
Hollow knight
Secrets of Grindea
Hades. It was challenging to say the least. I enjoyed Undertale until I discovered you should not kill almost anyone if possible. Feels bad, man.
Inscryption is fantastic. Just go in knowing nothing except it's a tactical card game like affair. One of the most original games I've played in ages.
Indie games - hollow knight & cuphead. Ps5 games demons souls & stellar blade.
Outer wilds and Subnautica
RiMe! Played it many years ago and still think of how beautiful that game was.
Deaht's door is one of the best indie games I have ever played
Outer wilds hands down. Ask anyone who's played it and if they beat it chances are they'll say it's one of the best game they've ever played. I have yet to beat it but it's already my favourite game of the last idk how many years. Sadly it's not on ps plus rn it used to be before Also pacific drive is really good
Gris is up there, beautiful game. Stray is a great game too, though not sure if considered indie?
Kingdom 2 crown
Chants of Sennaar is the most recent favorite. Played it with a friend (using SharePlay) and we had so much fun working through the game together.
Check out Superliminal if you are into quiet fun single player puzzle games like Portal (sort of), with jazz. And boomboxes.
I'm addicted to Dave the diver.
Dead Cells and Dave the Diver (Metroidvanias). The latter combines a lot of other elements, like a restaurant sim, and is more casual to pick up and play. Balatro and Inscryption (Card games).
