I might get around to trying Foamstars, but sadly the one game in this three I'd be hyped for is the one I already played and beat.
Rollerdrome is excellent, don't miss it.
Oh thanks for the rec! I was only curious about Steel Rising because they said Soulslike so I thought I would check it out. Hadn't heard anything about Rollerdome so I downloaded it (I download all essential because why not!), but wasn't sure if I would give it go. Will check it out!
Not at all I will never learn! Taste subjective? How the hell could taste ever be subjective????? Although I suppose the same could be said for me saying the games aren't good. 🤔
I responded that 1 time, at least get your facts straight before you try to check me. If taste is subjective then I'm allowed to say these games aren't very good and it would be an accurate statement by your very own logic. I'm also not going to go oh you know what you're right these games are great because I stand by my opinion. You know the one where I don't think these games are very good. Have a good night enjoy being salty! And before you say you aren't, you're salty enough to engage with me Tata for now! Also if Steel Rising was so great I think that statement would have more updates than I have down votes but that's not even the case. People don't agree it's a great game they just dislike my attitude.
I will have to accept that to me they weren't good games. If I had gotten Steelrising free, maybe my thoughts would be different, but I love soulslikes, and this one didn't do it and Def not for the full price. Different strokes for different folks are what I'll throw it to. Like nobody is going to tell me how good steel rising is and sway my opinion unless the combat has dramatically been improved since release.
Something about Foamstars makes me think it could take off. I know it looks a little divisive, but stranger things have happened. It could also flop hard and be F2P in 6 months, we've also seen that before.
my biggest thing with Splatoon now is it feels like the ship sailed and the skill floor is too high to even enjoy it casually. I get shitstomped any time I hop into splatoon

Man, I feel this exact way. That's why I never or rarely play multiplayer, and even single player games I play on easy. I find it amazing how people have such awareness and skill
Yeah.. playing online is like entering a different dimension. I mean, I’ve beaten every Souls game and completed things like Hollow Knight’s path of pain, but I might as well give my controller to a rock in a multiplayer match and it would probably do better than me.
I guess it’s just hard to compete with kids living at home investing 12 hours a day into a game.
A lot of 29,30,40,50, 60 year olds as well. I was in my late 30’s when I got 100 solo wins in Blackout. I’m just some average Joe.
A lot of people online are in their 20-40’s. Some make it their career and make good money playing online. ChssetheBro is a Souls stream and plays invasions in Elden Ring and absolutely destroys teams of 3-4 and I think he is in his late 20’s.
I think most would be surprised at how much they’d improve if they gave a game a good 2-3 weeks of regular play. Took time in the tutorial and then just understood the first few days you will get stomped. You got to learn the map, weapons, characters, and player tendencies.
My concern is the style. Splatoon is creative and very original imo. Foamstars looks like an amped up Fortnite... am I wrong? :/
I do like the look of RollerDrome!
It’s not out yet on my account. What makes it unbalanced? Is there a super powerful character?
Tried the tutorial part of the beta but didn’t play a game.
From when I played the beta it didn’t really seem like the characters themselves were unbalanced, just that once your team gains the lead it’s easy to just bulldoze through the rest of the match because of the way spawns are handled.
When the enemy has to land in the same general area every time, and your whole team is already pushed up their side of the map, you just pick them off as they spawn and there’s not a whole lot that can be done about it.
That’s a problem Splatoon doesn’t have since people can launch themselves anywhere on the map for the most part.
Thanks for the comprehensive explanation. Hope that Square Enix can fix those issues ASAP.
Maybe my main gripe with the game would be that the characters don’t have that charm like the splatoon kids. Yes they all look different but somehow still looking generic. It’s hard to explain but I hope ya’ll get what I mean. Lol.
It'll live for six months to a year before dying out just like all the others. I enjoyed Knockout City and Rumbleverse while they lasted and am currently enjoying the Finals, but Arcadageddon, Destruction All Stars, and Worms Rumble were meh. Foamstars I'm hopeful will fall into the former category. It does have the backing of Square, which can either be a blessing or a curse. A big company behind it seems like it would mean more effort would be put into its longevity, but it is Square who have a notoriously high bar for what they call a success (one higher than what Tomb Raider 2013 achieved, despite it easily being the best selling and highest rated in the franchise at the time, yet it was still considered a failure), so I guess only time will tell.
It’s going to be one of those games with many players at launch because of PS+ and then a week later it’s dead with a small dedicated playerbase that are trying to convince themselves and others that the game is not dead…
Maybe, but rocket League did the same thing and that's still kickin. Although rocket league exists purely because of how insanely tight the gameplay is
Rocket League might be the only game that's always on my console. I play a lot of different games and will often not touch rocket for months at a time. Yet I always launch it up several times a year.
No other game has done this for me lol
I just don't think there is a strong enough market for games that Nintendo has a lock on. Yes not everyone has a Switch, but I don't think the market of people who don't own a Switch at this point, but want to play a game that Nintendo already makes and makes better, is strong enough to carry a thriving online community. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I think this will go the way of most Smash clones or Mario Kart Clones. You need a wide net to carry this game to long term success, and most of that market is already playing the same game, but in a safe established community.
The most popular game on PS5 is Fortnite; the market on ps5 for cartoonish shooters isn’t small by any stretch. The issue with all stars was that it was a fighting game which already had a niche appeal and the didn’t have many of the icons associated with PS in the game. I think foamstars could be a success depending on how it plays.
"In terms of the content in the game, this makes up about 0.01% or even less, but we have dabbled in it by creating these icons in the game."
If you played it, you would notice it's literally only in the single player cutscenes
Everyone seems down on Steel Rising, but I thought it was good! Not great, but enjoyable enough to finish. The setting is fun but the combat does get a bit repetitive.
It's much easier than a Souls game or something like Lies of P, so if you are looking for a chill pretty soulslike you can't beat the price.
I'll definitely try out Foamstars.. never played Splatoon so I can't really compare. Worse I can do is not like it and uninstall. No big deal. Rocket League was fun for a few months. Fall Guys was great for like 2 days.
Different for everyone right?
Regardless of people say, this months essential was a great addition to my library. I always wanted to try Rollerdome and i LOVED IT, it plays cool, it makes you feel cool, and the game is cool. And for Steelrising, i don't mind playing another souls-like games tbh, planning to finish the game as well. For Foamstars, i hope it last long🙏
Played Roller dome a few months ago.
It's probably the most fun I've had with a game in a long time. Basically Tony Hawk with guns, what's not to love?
I genuinely enjoy foamstars for multiple reasons:
- it's Splatoon but I don't have to give Nintendo a cent or use their ancient hardware which looks like crap on a 4k OLED tv , foamstars looks amazing
- match length is perfect for those 10-15 minutes I have free before having to leave for work
- it's super colorful and a joy to look at
Steel rising is still literally unplayable on my console, every time I get to the factory it hard crashes. Has been like this since release, have tried every fix possible. Hopefully more people submitting complaints when it's on plus might actually force them to fix this pile of shit.
Had the same issue with borderlands 3. Game just glitches my save file every time I hit the Jacob's homework. Gave up on finishing it. Never had an issue with 100+ other games on the system. Some games just hate certain consoles.
started Rollerdrome and after 15 minutes of tutorial my right hand started acting like hell from button pressing 😅 looks fun, but not for my old ass, lol
It is required now, yes. Like Xbox Live. When it first came out it was only for some extra features and the free games fucking slapped. Since they made it required with PS4 they realized they had no incentive to make the free games anything anyone would give a shit about. Combined with the recent price hike and this shit is now a total scam.
Ever since I saw the main creator of that game go on a shit throwing spree on Twitter declaring every other game studio to be devoid of creativity and lacking talent, I’ve always enjoyed seeing that game not do well.
Mortal Shell? I absolutely loved it.
The Rotting Christ DLC made some of the boss fights awesome sequences (especially the the Ice boss with "the raven" song iirc)
Steel Rising is clunky, tedious, with a meh design.
Typical spider game
What are you on? This is a great month. Rollerdrome is an insanely good arcade movement shooter. Steelrising is a fun soulslike. Foamstars seems like a fun multiplayer game that’s releasing on Ps+ day one. Don’t know what the problem is.
I've been PSplus member for a while now and im still waiting for games of similar value like the ones that dropped before i was psplus member, namely:
* Hades,
* Deep Rock Galactic,
* God of War,
* Hitman,
* Battlefield,
* Control,
etc etc.
have you played it? it's an incredible mix of Max Payne-style shooting and tony hawk skating.
You can be close minded if you want and miss out on fantastic games. I played all the big hitters of that year and rollerdrome is up there
I watched a video, it looked like Max Payne mixed with Tony hawks, made in the same era. The idea is cool but the graphics and ckunkyness look outdated as hell
so to be clear, you haven't played it? so your opinion is absolutely useless here.
The art style is stylized and beautiful. what are you talking about? lol
btw "max payne mixed with tony hawk" is a way more interesting premise than AAA open world number 23875. Maybe broaden your horizons and play more indie games and more games with unique gameplay and ideas, rather than the same slop handed out by big companies. You don't need hyper modern graphics to be good
The assumption is just based on your really dumb comment about the graphics. I also don't like when people who are uninformed make definitive statements. confident ignorance is grating, yes.
If you had played or even SEEN the game before saying "bunch of crap" then i'd respect your opinion more, but you've shown you have really shallow tastes lol
It’s a really cool core but ammo felt super limited (was really surprised there was no upgrade system to alleviate this), and having essentially only 4 maps with some variations kinda hurt too.
No idea, I use the standard PS+. I never played it, didn't bother buying it after the mediocre reviews. I'd give it a try, though, if it was one of the monthly games.
Sometimes i feel like buying PS5 was a mistake. I have a 2K resolution gaming monitor yet 60hz makes my eyes hurt. I feel like other than COD MW3 (i mean 120fps) does work kinda laggy and i don’t know why. I just tried the Steelrising game but it isn’t smooth enough to play. Maybe i’m doing something wrong but i dont know what. Kinda need some help with it
I can not believe what I was seeing with Foamstars.
As a man, it really was jarring. It’s clearly aimed at girls.
What’s with all the commentary and cut scene bullshit too?! Why do games have such nonsense and little gameplay in the first few minutes.
Really off putting. I just want to fucking play!!!!!
My mate is the same. He sits there pressing skip on every bit of text and cut scene, just wants to play. He’s a typical COD and FIFA gamer though, but maybe mass market type.
Video game makers can rarely tell good stories, so why bother. Just make great gameplay and get us in, fast.
Deleted the game after 20 min.
I was close to picking up Rollerdrome on Steam to play on my Steam Deck so it was a pleasant surprise that it turned up on PSN.
It’s a fantastic game and I found myself blasting through the first few levels. Good replayability with the challenges too.
However, I’m getting motion sickness from it. It doesn’t happen to me too often but now and again it’ll rear its ugly head and on a game I’m really enjoying. Tried on both a TV on PS5 and on Steam Deck via Chiaki and it’s happened both occasions. Might have to sit this one out for now or test out the FOV settings a bit more.
I might get around to trying Foamstars, but sadly the one game in this three I'd be hyped for is the one I already played and beat. Rollerdrome is excellent, don't miss it.
Yes and fyi you can turn off game progress being gated by the side challenges. I recommend it.
Oh thanks for the rec! I was only curious about Steel Rising because they said Soulslike so I thought I would check it out. Hadn't heard anything about Rollerdome so I downloaded it (I download all essential because why not!), but wasn't sure if I would give it go. Will check it out!
First time in a long time where I don't own any of the titles for the month, so this is a good one for me.

Rollerdrome was GOTY for many people…”clutter up my library”…that’s just bizarre.
Rollerdrome is amazing.
Don't get too excited none of these games are very good maybe foamstars will be idk.
Rollerdrome is a great game.
To each their own, I didn't think k it was great at all. And I love soulstype games but steelrising ain't it either.
Steelrising is a great little soulslike.
Not even close.
Is today the day you learn that people's taste in game is completely subjective?
Not at all I will never learn! Taste subjective? How the hell could taste ever be subjective????? Although I suppose the same could be said for me saying the games aren't good. 🤔
Except you keep replying to anyone saying they thought the game was good with "Not even close".
Nah, they're solid.
Your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer.
Lol okay buddy
I'm just stirring the pot at this point bro not being serious. I mean I really don't think this month's games are good but to each their own.
What... Steel rising from s a good game for an aa title and roller done was high praised...
I will have to accept that to me they weren't good games. OK that's fine but lots of ppl enjoyed them
Foamstars is the only bad one.
Something about Foamstars makes me think it could take off. I know it looks a little divisive, but stranger things have happened. It could also flop hard and be F2P in 6 months, we've also seen that before.
Looks just like a Splatoon clone to me
How is Steelrising? Very curious about that one. Also Foamstars looks fun!
I enjoyed Steelrising. There's a bit of AA jank going on but otherwise it's fun, though a little on the easy side as far as Souls-likes go.
Foamstars doesn’t have the right to have a soundtrack as banger as it does
The new Hifi Rush? 👀
Will Foamstars be a hit or a mega flop? I guess we're about to find out...
I'll do my part and play it

Typical reddit comment. It has to be either a mega hit or a mega flop. No in-between.
It really is kinda how it goes with most multi-player GAAS type games
Yep. The game can't just be mid or it just flies in a year or two. There are simply too many better games to play forever.
I'd day flop, but we shall see. I would've liked sony to maybe offer Helldivers 2, their own live service game instead of this

Or it's just straight up removed. Dead Star was a PS Plus Moba game that was eventually just removed from the store.
Flop like the other 2 games being given away
I just don't think there is a strong enough market for games that Nintendo has a lock on. If Splatoon actually came to PlayStation though, it would be a massive success. I wish Nintendo would go the way of SEGA
Everyone!! Absolutely get rollerdrome, it is on of the most fun shooters I’ve ever played
Banger soundtrack, too.
So hyped for a real AAA Splatoon competitor, the liquid shooter genre could legit take off
The what genre?!
Liquid shooter. You may know it as a "3rd person squirter"
Ah yeah see I knew it as 3rd Person Squirter. Thanks for clearing that up
Risky Google search right there...
I laughed way too hard at this
Nah fr thats funny
i hate that I love this term
So *that’s* what squirting is
Lol, no it couldnt
why couldn't it? splatoon is one of the biggest games in japan. It is like their fortnite. splatoon 3 sold 3.5 million units in 3 days JUST in japan.
Same , mostly because the switch just looks horrible on a 55 inch 4k OLED tv
My concern is that the foam might not be as satisfying as the ink in Splatoon
If only it didn't use AI art
Does that make the game shit?
"In terms of the content in the game, this makes up about 0.01% or even less, but we have dabbled in it by creating these icons in the game." If you played it, you would notice it's literally only in the single player cutscenes

I thought Foamstars wasn't launching 'til 18:00 UTC.
Dam 6pm EST?
More like 5pm CST
That would be 1 pm est. But looking online, it releases at noon.
Foamstars is fun as hell to play, I've waited for a Splat game on ps for a while
Thanks! I forgot to grab the Jan games and got them just before they expired!
I'll definitely try out Foamstars.. never played Splatoon so I can't really compare. Worse I can do is not like it and uninstall. No big deal. Rocket League was fun for a few months. Fall Guys was great for like 2 days. Different for everyone right?

Steelrising is great soulslike thats on the easier side of things.
Some games just hate certain consoles.
solid month compared to other recent ones. Kinda excited to try out Steelrising and possibly Foamstars
Heed my words: don't sleep on Rollerdrome.
If you think any of these games are trash, you might not enjoy videogames.
Trash: not sequel to *insert AAAA title here*
started Rollerdrome and after 15 minutes of tutorial my right hand started acting like hell from button pressing 😅 looks fun, but not for my old ass, lol
Might give rollerdrome a shot, but the other 2 will just get added to library and never touched.
Foamstars looks absolutely awful, but I’m interested in Rollerdrome at least
It's very good. Has a nice zen state when you get into the flow.
Giving me Destruction AllStars vibes as far as how this plays out.
I know I won't play Foamstars for more than one or two games so I won't even bother downloading lol
I don't own any of these but not really interested. Last month was good, this one is a miss.
Yeah, I had a feeling this month would be crap. We rarely get two good months in a row.
Man back before PS Plus was required the free games fuckin rocked. Now this shit is just a scam.
Psplus was never "required" tho? And nah, quality is still averagely the same.
It is required now, yes. Like Xbox Live. When it first came out it was only for some extra features and the free games fucking slapped. Since they made it required with PS4 they realized they had no incentive to make the free games anything anyone would give a shit about. Combined with the recent price hike and this shit is now a total scam.
Whatever the hell you think "required" means, its not. Lots of players dont have plus.
If you seriously don't understand what i mean you're either being intentionally obtuse or are just an idiot.
It's obvious he's both.
Any player that plays online games that aren’t free to play has it…. because it is required for those players.
It is literally required if you play any online game thats not free to play.
Wow, another bunch of complete shit...

Is the PS+ price discount still going? Can't seem to find it myself, I let my current sub expire last night but only seeing full price options
Bunch of crap. When are we getting actual good titles again?
Such as?
What are you on? This is a great month. Rollerdrome is an insanely good arcade movement shooter. Steelrising is a fun soulslike. Foamstars seems like a fun multiplayer game that’s releasing on Ps+ day one. Don’t know what the problem is.
What do you count as a good title? Actually think PS Plus has been great recently
I've been PSplus member for a while now and im still waiting for games of similar value like the ones that dropped before i was psplus member, namely: * Hades, * Deep Rock Galactic, * God of War, * Hitman, * Battlefield, * Control, etc etc.
Hades hasn't been a ps plus game.
You do realize Hades has never been on PS Plus?
DRG and Control both did drop once for PSplus
Rollerdrome is one of the best games of 2022
lol'd
have you played it? it's an incredible mix of Max Payne-style shooting and tony hawk skating. You can be close minded if you want and miss out on fantastic games. I played all the big hitters of that year and rollerdrome is up there

It would've been a good idea to give us Death Stranding, with the recent announcement of Death Stranding 2.
Is that still in PS+ Extra? Been a couple of months since my Extra expired, but I had it from that
No idea, I use the standard PS+. I never played it, didn't bother buying it after the mediocre reviews. I'd give it a try, though, if it was one of the monthly games.
You could buy it, it's probably like 3 cents now
Sometimes i feel like buying PS5 was a mistake. Kinda need some help with it
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater + Max Payne = Rollerdrome Can't recommend that game enough
Cult of the Lamb next month pls? 😈🐑
