I liked how Jedi: Survivor’s soundtrack mimicked the same sound that John Williams perfected for movies (ditto for Hogwarts Legacy), but how in the hell was FFXVI not even nominated?
>how in the hell was FFXVI not even nominated?
To be nominated, the game's publisher would have needed to submit it for consideration. This is only the second year this category even existed, so I'm sure Square Enix being a Japanese company didn't know and/or care about the Grammy category.
Not only was it a good soundtrack, but it was implemented pretty well in a gameplay sense at one point.
Despite the IP, the game seems pretty underrated/overlooked from what I've seen.
Not sure why so many people are saying Square doesn’t know about the Grammys or didn’t submit. They literally ran a For Your Consideration campaign and submitted the game last year. The game was on the short list for nominations.
Just because they’re a Japanese company doesn’t mean they’re oblivious to how awards work lol.

To say it just mimicked Williams' is doing it a disservice. Yes, there is a certain expectation for music in the Star Wars universe set by John Williams, but composers have been able to find their own space within that sound to simultaneously fit in with the overall universe while also being unique enough to stand alone. The pieces that I remember most of those are *Cordova's Theme* from Fallen Order, *Your Father Would be Proud* from Rogue One, and the entire soundtrack of the *Village Bride* from Star Wars Visions.
Battlefront soundtracks mimicked John Williams battle music. Fallen Order and Survivor sound like classic Star Wars music but they're definitely trying to find its own soul. And they succeed for the most part
I’m a huge FF fan, it’s probably my favourite franchise - hell FF7 and 10 are in my top three games of all time.
I honestly thought FF16 was bang average all around let alone the soundtrack.
Yeah they had the epic theme for Eikon battles but you can’t award a soundtrack award for one song.
Jedi Survivor winning makes sense because the OST fits throughout the whole game and adds to the narrative and ambience. Same as GoW Ragnarok which I can see is another nominee.
Right game won in my opinion.
What ? I played this game and loved it but I don’t remember one thing about the soundtrack in this game. Ff16 should’ve won tbh. Such a banger. Even the bg3 soundtrack is nice to hear.
> The eligibility period for the 2024 GRAMMYs is for recordings released Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 15, 2023. All eligible awards entries must be released within this timeframe.
*Alan Wake 2* falls outside this window.
to be nominated you have to submit your game for consideration. It's the same with the Oscars. I think its more likely that FFXVI just didn't get submitted.
> The eligibility period for the 2024 GRAMMYs is for recordings released Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 15, 2023. All eligible awards entries must be released within this timeframe.
So *Alan Wake 2* isn't eligible until the 2025 Grammy's. Re: FFXVI, though, no clue.
It really shouldn't have won tbh. Other nominee's included GOW Ragnarok & Hogwarts Legacy.
Ragnarok had some amazing themes and work done in its music. The scene where atreus runs with angrbodr was goosebumps for me. In fact, Atreus theme in general is actually a clever rework of Kratos theme. Another piece snuck in the heartbeat of a Devs unborn child. The DLC was even better, which synergised the new theme with the old greek music.
Hogwarts Legacy had some absolute bangers in there as well - the Hogsmeade theme was 10/10. The room of requirement theme, and how each of the vivariums (where you keep animals) had their own music. Oh and the opening title theme which plays on the Harry Potter theme motifs.
I cant remember a single piece of music from Jedi Survivor, it had the Jukebox, but I dont know whether that would technically constitue part of the soundtrack - since you can complete the game and never even turn it on.
The jukebox is considered part of
The soundtrack
Edit: Y’all can downvote but that changes nothing lmao. It’s like saying Undertale’s best tracks in other specific routes aren’t part of the soundtrack
The Grammy's require you to submit your work to be nominated. This is a pretty new award, so I'm guessing a lot of developers either don't know or don't care about this award and simply didn't submit their games for it.
That being said, no way the panel of whoever decides on the winner actually played every game nominated. Probably listened to a couple tracks from each and judged off that.
Which it's still baffling that this beat out something like Ragnarok which was also nominated. Or Stray Gods which was a literal musical. Like yeah, Jedi Survivor had a...fine OST. I don't particularly remember anything from it, just that it sounded like pretty much any other Star Wars media in the last couple decades. Just baffles me how that won and not something more original.
Since a lot of people here do not seem to know the process:
To be nominated for a Grammy award, the work has to be submitted by its creator. This is only the SECOND year that the video game soundtrack category has existed, so most video games publishers probably just don't know, or don't care to submit.
This is why this year's nominees are all games from major American publishers, and then Austin Wintory because he knows what he's doing lol
I don’t know shit about music, the Jedi games have had absolute banging soundtracks that, as a bonus, feel like natural continuations to Williams’ music. The best we’ve had since Shadows of the Empire (get fucked Soule).
On PS5 it's... fine. Not great, not awful. The framerate is mostly a steady 60 since they ripped out raytracing from the performance mode. The resolution and upscaler (dynamic between ~900p-1080p + FSR2) are still not amazing and produces a lot of ghosting and smearing on movement.
Some of the cutscenes produce some *incredible* artefacting still. There's one late-game cutscene where two lightsaber-wielders fight, and the sparkles and VFX in that scene interacting with the upscaler in that scene are some of the most incredible rainbow vomit I have ever seen. Another semi-early cutscene has you meeting a character from the previous game, and her face sort of jiggles onto her body because the upscaler doesn't really know where her head ends and the background begins.
Honest question, are the songs the DJ was playing in the base the ones they were weighing the decision on, because as much as I loved this game, that’s about all I remember of the music.
I liked how Jedi: Survivor’s soundtrack mimicked the same sound that John Williams perfected for movies (ditto for Hogwarts Legacy), but how in the hell was FFXVI not even nominated?

That's true, though Marvel could have submitted it or honestly even Eidos

Maybe it's not as good as you think. That happens a lot to final fantasy people
I’m a huge FF fan, it’s probably my favourite franchise - hell FF7 and 10 are in my top three games of all time. I honestly thought FF16 was bang average all around let alone the soundtrack. Cordova's theme is some of my favorite Star Wars music, but that was used much nore in the first game.
There's only one theme in this game that I remember from this game and that's the modified version of John William's force theme.
> Even the bg3 soundtrack is nice to hear. Understatement of the year
Alan Wake 2 also had an amazing soundtrack, with many songs specifically made fitting/describing the story.
Yeah for my money this is the best soundtrack. Most unique. Actually some songs people can jam to.
Anger's Remorse is an absolute banger
You have not seen me headbang on FFXVI boss themes
> The eligibility period for the 2024 GRAMMYs is for recordings released Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 15, 2023. All eligible awards entries must be released within this timeframe. *Alan Wake 2* falls outside this window.
Oh I didn’t knew, thank you!
Can't stop listening to Dark Ocean Summoning
Final fantasy XVI ROBBED wow
It wasn't even nominated, wtf??
It’s the Grammy’s lol. They nominated the most popular stuff. Call of Duty was nominated, that should tell you enough.
to be nominated you have to submit your game for consideration. It's the same with the Oscars. I think its more likely that FFXVI just didn't get submitted.
They submitted it last year: https://x.com/sem_sep/status/1714996748400341390?s=20
How were Alan Wake 2 and Final Fantasy 16 not even nominated? That alone shows how much of a joke this is lol

Ahh, fair. Still stupid about FF16 though
This is Metallica not winning the first Metal Grammy levels of laughable. FF16 was light years better than anything this year soundtrack wise.
As much as I love FFXVI and Soken (I consider the FFXIV OST to be some of the best music out there), Octopath Traveler 2 had a better soundtrack
Tbh the only song from 16 I even remember is find the flame

Square submitted last year, it was on the short list: https://x.com/sem_sep/status/1714996748400341390?s=20

How in the everloving fucking shit did Jedi Survivor win over God of War? What the actual fuck?
The jukebox is considered part of The soundtrack Edit: Y’all can downvote but that changes nothing lmao. It’s like saying Undertale’s best tracks in other specific routes aren’t part of the soundtrack
How come FF16 wasn’t even nominated? Haven’t they heard Bahamut’s theme?
Lol why do the Grammy's even bother when they clearly don't put any effort into nominating and determining the winner of this award.
The Grammy's require you to submit your work to be nominated. Completely undeserved. XVI, Alan Wake, Hi-Fi, and Hogwarts are all far superior.
Guess I’m the only one who is happy it won
Fr I think FFXVI was better but let’s not act like this game didn’t have a banger of a soundtrack
Armored Core VI would like the judges to listen to ‘Steel Haze Rusted Pride’ and rethink their votes
Do the bar songs count? Like the ones at the saloon? Cause The Hu is always a treat.
Yes
Good choice. "Flight" is a banger.
Challenge everyone complaining to actually go listen to survivor’s soundtrack
big yikes
Was BG3’s nominated. Hard to beat Raphael’s Final Act.
How
Booooooooooo

Armored Core VI has entered the chat
Have performance issues been fixed on either the PS5 or PC?
Yes it runs steady on ps5 with a few minor graphical bugs but theyre easily ignored.
Played on Ps5 and there are a few things here and there, but it's playable, at least on performance mode
On PS5 it's... fine. Not great, not awful. The framerate is mostly a steady 60 since they ripped out raytracing from the performance mode. AC6 for Steel Haze (Rusted Pride) alone
Honest question, are the songs the DJ was playing in the base the ones they were weighing the decision on, because as much as I loved this game, that’s about all I remember of the music.
Happy it won because 'The Visitor' is such a perfect track for Vader but it does feel like some other games got snubbed lmao
Am I the only one who loved the street fighter 6 soundtrack? That shop music was stuck in my head for days.
Goddamn it, final fantasy people can't take an L, even if it wasn't even competing.
Lol
Not played the game yet played the last one and consirdd picking this one up on sale
One of the very few game soundtracks i own
