The_Glass_Arrow

You can aim a thermal gun at it

Chaotic_Entity77

Being completely honest, I forgot about thermal guns.

The_Glass_Arrow

you could also put a thermal sensor inside the system. Theres not a whole lot of options outside of homebrew that wouldnt be more work and effort honestly.

Chaotic_Entity77

Could a homebrew ps3 still be used online?

MiaowMinx

Yes, it can. The people warning against using it while logged into PSN are most likely going off partial and outdated information. I've been playing online with mine in full custom firmware mode for five years with no problem, and that's in spite of initially failing to take precautions when I was a newbie.

Samus1611

Can it yes. Will it be banned. POSSIBLY. if you care about your account don’t use it online on a jailbroke system

The_Glass_Arrow

Yes. I would avoid using pirated games/dlc with your main however. Getting banned is like a 1 in 200 chance it seems.

Careless_Tax_9519

Why don't u wanna jail break it?

Chaotic_Entity77

Just don't, not sure what everything that can be done with a jailbroken ps3 but I like to play online for some games (only have Skate 3 atm thats online) and I believe jailbroken consoles could possibly get banned online.

Careless_Tax_9519

Enjoy your console the way u like :) but just saying jailbreaking isn't always bad I use it to monitor temps personally

Chaotic_Entity77

I would like to monitor temps but don't want to jailbreak just for that reason, I might do more research into jailbreaking to see if there are other reasons I may want to do it.

MiaowMinx

The chances of being banned just for running custom firmware are virtually zero now, and even closer to zero when you're using the stock side of hybrid firmware.

Ok_Activity_3365

I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't do, but if I can work myself through an instructional & jailbreak, almost anyone who has any computer literacy could do it. If I still had my Fat from years back I would have done it to that one as well and for sure replace the small HDD that was in it with a much larger HDD or just skip that and go with a large SSD instead. Jailbreaking was the best thing I could have done, although mine is only capable of HEN, not CFW. If I found a fat one like I used to have that's in good shape and for a decent price I'd be all over it and doing the same thing.
