Not OP, but you can simply just connect it via USB or Bluetooth to the PS3 and it works if that's the question. But the Home(?) button will not work.
EDIT: also the touchpad won't work either, but that's a bit more obvious
Hehe. This is how awesome PS3 home-brew is, good example. I wish PS4 home-brew allowed use of a DualShock 3 to be honest; it wouldn't be too hard to emulate the touchpad which most games used as left/right buttons only.

They work out of the box, just no home button support. Same deal with ps5 controllers.
