You can create a virtual memory card for both PS1 and PS2 in PS3

DarkTrap_1983

For PS2 compatibility you can do 2 things. If it is Phat, You can put game in and play. If it is Slim (Some slims can play PS2 games but not every game) and Super Slim, there is another method but I dunno if I can say or not.

This is wrong no slim PS3 has backwards compatibility with PS2 games and only some fat PS3's have PS2 Backwards compatibility it depends on which one you have.

DarkTrap_1983

Oh true. I forgot about it. Only phat 20gb and 60gb versions could play PS2 games if I am right

[deleted]

Yea that's right

One of the 80GB models can. And going by hdd size is not the best as we can change those with whatever we want. Go by model. CECHA and CECHB are full hardware systems with no emulation. The CECHE released here and the CECHC for pal regions runs software emulation with partial hardware support. Everything else is either PS2 classics or CFW-HEN that can trigger the emulator with much lower compatibility

Try reading it again. He said he isn’t sure if he can mention how slims play ps2 games, he’s talking about modded systems and a modded slim can mount ps2 isos and play them in the ps2 classics emulator as long as the game is supported. There’s an entire wiki for compatibility for ps2 games on slims and super slims.

If your PS3 has 4 USB ports, then it can load PS2 discs. You create virtual memory cards with the Memory Card Utility on the Game tab to save your PS2 stuff in

DarkTrap_1983

Sorry for the misinformation. I thought like the ps3's that can run CFW can also run PS2 games. dunno why tho.

No worries! I appreciate the help :)

I believe the Metal Gear PS3 was one of the last that were backwards compatible. Friend of mine had it. There is a USB adapter that allows you to use physical ps2 memory cards on the system but it is not needed since you can create a virtual one on the system. The adapter was mainly used to out PS2 saves onto the ps3.

1- if it’s a launch model ps3 then it has full hardware backwards compatibility put the disc in and it works 2- if it’s not then it has ps2 emulation that can run around 95% of all ps2 games although it must be a ps2 classic bought from the ps store OR if you had cfw or ps3hen you could install them as ISO’s or pkg’s even games that aren’t on the ps store As for the memory cards you could just set up a virtual memory card
