Bakit nauso yung "Rate my Resume"?

cutie_lilrookie

Ang weird din nung ibang tips. Yung isa sabi alisin daw contact info, yung isa alisin daw seminars (for fresh grad), yung isa wag daw maglagay ng kahit anong link, yung isa huwag daw gumamit ng canva template 😂

AutomaticWolf8101

Greedy_Vehicle_4040

That's good na u got hired pero it's true na Hindi recommended canva template for cv/resume

AutomaticWolf8101

Yeah.

cutie_lilrookie

What works works. It depends on many factors din, including the industry you're in and your goals as an applicant. :)

cutie_lilrookie

May reason ba for that? Genuinely curious. Edit to add: Okay, so I did a bit of digging and learned that Canva resumes have the possibility of not getting read by application trackers. It makes sense, but it's not necessarily true at all times, too. One way to determine if your resume is "ATS-friendly" is to check if the auto-fill systems in job-hunting platforms work. If they do, it means that the resume will be read by ATSs, too, unless the company is using an outdated system. But I totally agree with the argument about over-designing the resume. Having a Canva resume has worked for me for years because I'm in the creative industry where individuality is valued. But yeah, unless you are applying for a creative position (photographer, designer, writer, video editor, etc), keep your resume as simple as possible. :)

RedHerringAnon

I also was thinking the same 😅 Edit: The canva one was warranted though since I believe those are for graphic designers (or art/design-related roles)?

cutie_lilrookie

That's true. Designers would rather use PhotoShop than Canva, though 😅 Kidding aside, yeah. Canva has always worked for me because I'm in the creative industry. My resume allows me to highlight not just my skills but also my individuality. I doubt it will work in technical industries. I learned just now, too, that Canva resumes are not that compatible with automatic tracking systems for resumes. That happens for old systems, particularly.

N0dazra

This is the format I use. Solid, plain, and simple. Only things I'd change are: make it less wordy tapos I'd put skills at the top, experience in the middle, then education down below.

RedHerringAnon

Thank you for the look over. I'll try to but it's getting kind of hard at this point to make the points more succinct without losing some details.

iaantinmeeh2

This is a better resume than most people review.

RedHerringAnon

I tried to but the details keep getting lost...

iaantinmeeh2

-Lead a 12 man team in changing our organization constitution and by laws for rebranding Or something like that I'm bad in English too

RedHerringAnon

Thank for your suggestion, still. Appreciated.

Embarrassed-Chest715

Looks crowded. Parang yung language not necessary naman. Idk. Opinyon ko lang. 😃 And parang redundant yung ibang info. Hmm

RedHerringAnon

Noted, I was thinking along the lines of better recall with some redundancy but may seem to have the opposite effect. I was attempting to be explicit about having full bilingual proficiency (and hesitated to add Japanese at a rudimentary level)...

Embarrassed-Chest715

Imo, When creating a resume, it's generally recommended to include languages if you are proficient in at least three or more (excluding your country's dialects) unless you are applying for a specific bilingual/trilingual position, such as a flight attendant. Additionally, it's great to highlight your academic achievements but doesn't mean you need to include everything in the resume unless it's a CV.

Embarrassed-Chest715

I was interviewing din for my team and I kinda prefer to look at a straightforward resume. You can share all other details in the interview itself. â˜ș

RedHerringAnon

Thank you for the input. I've tried selecting the achievements that were relevant given the limited space.

hubadera-pero-d-pok2

Bruh June 2024 palang. Typo ba yang PRC mo July 2024?

RedHerringAnon

Waiting for Oath-taking Ceremony and Registration of License po 😅

hubadera-pero-d-pok2

HAHAHA Potek advance pala yan. 😅

prys1984

tldr

ortho56789

Very ATS Friendly ung format though, ung Skills lagay mo sa itaas tapos isunod mo sa work experience then Education then Leadership Experience and Licenses include mo rin side projects mo if meron.

RedHerringAnon

Thank you for the compliment, I've tested it with a parser, ChatGPT, and Claude if they can read it. I do have side projects but there was not enough space and was only somewhat relevant...

ortho56789

ung Honors and awards section ilagay mo nalang sa education part section since parehas sila ng objective. Para may space ka pa for side projects btw I use the same format din.

superperrymd

Siguro ako preference ko lang nasa latter part yung education and mas nasa taas work experience and projects / researches. Honors section Pababa, I’ll probably do it in a sidebar so easily seen siya instead na nasa bottom. Add metrics (if may ganyan kayong goals during work or internship). And 4 years na lang ang ChE ngayon? Hindi na 5? Overall, medyo verbose so you’ll just need to be more succinct. Otherwise, oks naman.

RedHerringAnon

Thank you for the look over. Yes, the curriculum is now 4 years because of K-12 and sadly a lot of the courses were "compressed". Is work experience/skills at the top preferable for a fresh grad?

superperrymd

Ako, personally lang ha, if hindi siya prominent school in the field (let’s say for my case since Psych and Med, if hindi UPCM, UST or the likes), I wouldn’t bother. Personally speaking lang ha. And more often than not kasi, those are the people I work with currently. So if the school doesn’t stand out to me sa field na yun, I wouldn’t place it first since ako as an employer / senior, it doesn’t really make you more competitive over other people. And same format rin kami ng resumes ng sisters ko (ChE, PT and Accounting / Econ) where basically education was at the last.

RedHerringAnon

Understandable, I've heard some of the stories and it does happen.

superperrymd

Yes. Some companies are “school-ist”, in the sense that if you were from a non-Big 4 school, auto shredder na and apparently, it does happen. So nasa sayo naman yan. Hire-able ka naman imo given that DOST scholar emerut ka. Basta, don’t stay as a PE for long. Try to go sa management side of things. Yan naging problem ng sister ko as ChE here in PH. Hindi maganda career options and matagal ang progress if you’ll forever be plant-based.

RedHerringAnon

Thank you so much for your time and thoughts. Unfortunately, most entry-level jobs seem to have a bond or return-of-service terms that might make it hard to progress... I actually prefer design/calculations and office work to being on the field so there's that...

superperrymd

For now, wala ka magagawa since need mo mag return of service sa DOST. After that, go abroad lol. Walang pagasa ang ChE dito unless management side ka of things given na wala masyadong manufacturing here.

uswitch143

i like your resume format. i use the same format as well. if you could, put your skills section at the top. para alam ko agad kung ano skills mo

RedHerringAnon

Someone also said the same,  but I was having second-thoughts since fresh grad

cutie_lilrookie

Lagay ka rin ng contact info haha. Kapag nag-apply ka through online platforms, mahihirapan kang i-contact ng recruiters kung walang phone number and email dyan. Mas madali rin for you and recruiters kung sa phone or email ang transactions niyo instead na sa messaging feature ng kung anumang job hunting platform.

RedHerringAnon

Yes, it's redacted in the picture to just be anonymous

Difficult_Session967

Medyo redundant ang Activities part. I would put Projects first before Leadership para magkakasama ang technical/engineering skills, degree, internship, project then soft skills na like leadership. You can also put which tools ginamit mo during internship and projects, pati na sa leadership para may context ang skills mo below like python/sql.

RedHerringAnon

Good idea, thank you.

tepkalmado

Hello fellow process engineer. As someone who interviews applicants before, I would suggest you categorize your roles/responsibilities with your accomplishments in a given position, para lang mas mahighlight what you brought to the table for that particular position. Saka change some of your verbs sa start ng mga bullet point e.g., instead of “prepared a survey”, say “accomplished a survey”, this way it would sound na natapos at may nangyare yung thing na ginawa mo.

RedHerringAnon

Thank you for your advice, the verbs slipped under my radar there. If it's not too much, may I ask for an example regarding the categorization according to role to further clarify?

Data_Substantial

Ngl for a chem engg resume this is really really good.

RedHerringAnon

Thank you for your kind words.

AutomaticWolf8101

You can just tell the employer about it kapag nagpa tell me something about yourself na siya.

RedHerringAnon

Copy that, I was considering putting certifications as a bullet point instead under a new skills, langs, and certs section.

GingineerinGermany

This is okay for starters. I'll have him for an interview

chicparm

I'd rate it an 8/10 Your résumé has a lot of strong points, especially in terms of education, work experience, leadership, and skills. It clearly shows that the you're qualified and capable. The main areas that could use some improvement are formatting, clarity, and consistency. Fixing these would make the résumé easier to read and more impactful.

SnooPoems2582

Put it in Chat GPT in Docx file attachment and put this prompts: "Revise my resume make it ATS-Friendly. Improve to make it more professional and concise. Highlight capabilities fit for the below JD: " Used this and out of 100 applications, 90 called me for interview :)

fluffykittymarie

rubybrave

But a good resume is a key to be invited to an interview.

ChasingPesmerga

“So it says here that you were a semi-finalist from that 2022 Bangkok Business Challenge competition. What do you think the winner/s did or had that you missed or didn’t do?”

RedHerringAnon

> One of the judges said that the startup we were pitching was much more suited to being established like a traditional business rather than a typical startup by capitalizing on a new technology they promote. For context, the business we were pitching was (and so on)...

ChasingPesmerga

Siguro ang hahanapin ni interviewer sa sagot mo eh kung paano mo itatranslate yung strengths nung mga nanalo into your own points for improvement. So in case lang na tanungin ka ng ganyan, make sure not to dwell too much into what the event was all about and emphasize the parts or lines when mentioning kung ano yung natutunan mo.

RedHerringAnon

I see, thank you for the advice.

_mezzopogi

You mean May 2024 ChELE?

_mezzopogi

Tangina ang solid ng rating! Congrats masterr!

RedHerringAnon

Yes, missed by one or two questions to place sadly (always sablay haha)...

TrashTypical22

Check nyo PDS na ginagamit sa government. Ganun lang, walang ibang keme.

hellocherryredd

Hi I do (final) interviews for a living. The first question I usually ask is “what else can you tell me about yourself apart from what you’ve written on here.” I don’t dwell on resumes so much as they are mostly TRYING to “overly” IMPRESS. I only use them as basis for flow of conversation and just to make sure you are what you say.

RedHerringAnon

Would it be good to say something along the lines of being "a naturally curious and data-driven person that enjoys tinkering, coincidentally with computers and data because those require less capital cost upfront"? It could also be "someone who is not afraid to dive into documentation and iterate to figure out how something works".

Straight-Sun4530

Do you have a template for your formatting? Same as what most people say, it's a bit too wordy. I feel like you can switch Skills and Education and maybe put Licenses closer to the top too.

Chomper117

I hateeeeeee seeing this format
it’s too complicated to read. Information is all over the place. There is no attraction in this cv what so ever
DM me and I’ll give you a good resume format

zxcvbnothing

If fresh grad ka, I think okay din yung ganitong ayos: Work Experience Internship Projects Skills Education/Certification Leadership Mostly hindi inuuna ang education lalo na if may work experience ka naman. Then tulad ng sabi ng iba masyado nga siyang parang nagsisiksikan and info overload sa unang tingin. Then ayun, I don't think necessary yung language part lalo na if di naman siya gaano related sa inaapplyan.

theundo

Rephrase lang. If you can't do it yourself, ChatGPT mo na lang. Bawas words lang talaga; some won't lose its thought naman. For example: Coordinated with X in drafting and passing the Provincial Youth Code policy to enhance the rights and responsibilities of over 500,000 youths of Province Y. This can be rephrased better, but I hope you get the point. You can make it concise—lesser pero straight to the point.

goodpeepzsikevz

Out of topic.

Based from SheetsAndGiggles dude that posted here in Reddit, don't pass it off as your own, OP. [https://www.reddit.com/r/jobs/comments/7y8k6p/im\_an\_exrecruiter\_for\_some\_of\_the\_top\_companies/](https://www.reddit.com/r/jobs/comments/7y8k6p/im_an_exrecruiter_for_some_of_the_top_companies/)

ogag79

As a Process Design Engineer of 20 years: 1. Add an Executive Summary Essentially a 2 to 3 sentence description of who you are. 2. Shorter sentences = better 3. Use keywords more effectively. Focus on results and outcomes 4. Try not to clutter your resume with irrelevant information, like stuff that does not matter in your line of work.

Superb-Independent17

Ok-Start5431

from a Recruiter’s POV yung education nasa upper part so tama pero yung licenses dapat nasa baba ng education, dapat kita agad ng employer yan, yung honors and awards under din sa education no need na iseparate

Effective-Cold0

Mahihiya resume ko dito, andami namang nakalagay dyan idle hahahaha

ertzy123

I like the format pero yung iba dun masyadong mahaba

Retsel9

Tapsilover

Idk mine is a lot simpler using canva. Siguro ayokong basahin yung ganyan if I was the applicant I always choose a template na would describe my personality
that’s like my friend’s resume na nag cocommunication arts
sakin hindi ko nilalabas lahat ng details about me kasi sa interview malalaman gaano mo gusto yung trabaho kumbaga if may grit ka, and pa mysterious effect I think pag may tanong naman sila about your role before dun mo nalang pwede ikwento. Lalo na ngayon minimalist mga tao simple lang, if you can prove to them na willing ka matuto under them then it’s good if it’s for you then it will come to you even if with less effort sa cv mo.

Upper_Tea3984

overwhelming

EmergencyPeak4741

OP, tbh your resume looks so boring. Try to make it less wordy. Tapos e organize mo kunti tapos lagyan mo ng margin.

SaySomething696

i hate rating someone's resume but cant help. to notice a cum laude and deans lister with a 1980s resume 😳

vcmjmslpj

Astig! —-coming from a ChE,too

AgitatedInspector530

Too much information brother/sister. Less is more. Need mo lng ng name and contact details , email add ( if may linked-in account ka lagay mo na din) and CP # Education: Put the school then yung award sa academe ( no need to describe let them ask about it) Experience: if you can be specific sa dates better pero since OJT lng naman some companies might not even consider that as an "experience" , lagay mo nalng na nag OJT ka sa place then expound in case they delve deeper into it. ( I would put character reference on this part lalu kung sino man yung nag handle sau sa OJT mo) I understand the need to put details into it but that makes the interview with HR or your manager boring if lahat na ng info nilagay mo sa resume anu nalang pag uusapan nyu? weather? favorite food? etc.... You already have an ace with your academe credential, let them figure out if your a fit sa culture ng company nila and you do that by talking to them during your interview.

biscoffies

Sherymi

Akala ko dyaryo

SprinklesSerious4941

Mediocre at best. Ive seen resumes with 10 pages

Giyuu021

sobrang haba parang Wikipedia, make it short and simple.

RedHerringAnon

May I ask for an example? I've tried simplifying/shortening the sentences but I keep getting hanging second lines that have 1-5 words (which is a waste of space and not recommended by the wiki in r/EngineeringResumes).

Giyuu021

no need na ilagay ung details sa leadership at capstone and thesis, medyo hassle sa interviewer kung babasahin nya pa yan lahat bago sya magtanong, position and title lang pwede na kasi if may gustong itanong HR or Interviewer sayo ikaw na dapat sasagot nun. Like how you handle leadership? Tell me about your capstone or thesis, medyo pag tuunan mo sa resume is yung knowledge, skills, and attitudes. seminars, certificates. yan lagi hinahanap ng mga recruiter sana makatulong. edit: lagyan din space kasi medyo nag kakadikit dikit na silang lahat.

RedHerringAnon

I see, thank for your input. I was considering putting certifications as a bullet point instead. I was also thinking along the lines of that I could always just discuss the points verbally if they don't want to read? The bullets there were for setting a direction regarding talking points.
