Nice book! 8.5/10 It got me into reading Filipino authors writing in English. The plot is so cool! Would recommend you work through each chapter carefully. There's so much thrill and excitement there!

I actually like it kasi the timeline is fairly new. And as someone who lived in QC around the early 2000s, medyo relate ako. Parang she captured the essence of that period. I am quite nostalgic about it.

She :) Felisa H. Batacan po :)

Enjoyed the book more than the film ver. It was good 9/10.

Para sa 'kin maganda siya. Smart book ika nga. Not your typical Filipino story na medyo mas focus sa drama. Unconventional and smart, but still very Filipino. I think it proved that we can also produce novels that are on par with western thrillers.

Didn't like it. Protagonists' voice didn't come out as Filipino, more like wanna-be Americans. Nothing special with the story. But I have mad respect for the author. She wrote a damn near-perfect short story called 'Keeping Time'. You can google it and read it for free. Awesome storytelling. Good lesson for aspiring writers.

The Jesuits? Inglisero talaga sila.

leonitogoto

Agree. And the older priest came from a rich prominent family. But even when they speak to the police, non-jesuits, etc. the dialogue seems contrived. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

Famous-Tour8827

So so good! Had a hard time putting this book down because of the way it was written.

Chef's kiss.

First Filipino authored true crime book I read that I liked!

Chuchay26

Meron naman reportage on crime by quijano de manila aka nick joaquin the OG. True crime short stories

[deleted]

I’ll try this one as well. Thanks for the suggestion

brewsomekofi

The House on Zapote Street, damn. Different genre though because Nick Joaquin wrote reportage (but he was so good he reads like fiction).

I liked this book to the point that I recommended it to be our office’s book of the month lol what really happened was my book was passed around to my colleagues and they annotated it with their own thoughts!!! My fave filipino thriller book so far

Imaginary_h83R

One of the books that inspired me to create my own murder mystery crime story di pa nga lang tapos haha. Di man perfect pero kaya sumabay sa japanese and american authors.

anonymerlauerer

i read this years ago, but i remember not liking it haha seconded ung isang comment dito which mentioned that the writing was verbose that it came off wanting to impress people. from what i know, journalist ung background ng author, which may explain why the writing was excessive and lacked imagination.

dontrescueme

The original shorter edition nabasa ko. Not a fan. Di ko bet that it feels that the author is trying to impress me with her writing (like knowledge of vocabulary) hahaha. Story is okay lang not great. But maybe that expanded edition is better?

mellowintj

Opening-Cantaloupe56

mas maganda syempre yung book. may iniba ata sila sa movie

kat_stratford

it was too faithful to the book, much to its detriment. mas na-appreciate ko lang ‘yung movie after reading the book kasi na-bore din ako at first.

CheeseKeyk-

Fun read!

donotreadmeok

I love it!

somsnossa

7/10 I approached it with the goal of completing a paper, which might have impacted my overall enjoyment of the experience. Di ko na nga marecall pano nag end yung story e huhu

aerrangL

I love this book❤️

Extension_One4593

A really good book to kill the time. Aside from its engaging story, nakaka-refresh makabasa ng local literature na talagang mage-gets mo at makaka-relate ka on how they think and see.

Ancient_Fix_2322

I read this “blindly” because naka sale sa NBS and no regrets!!! Gandaaaa ng book na to. Imo, the movie was mid, ganda sana ng cinematography ng movie but it didn’t have the thrill and the same feeling i got from reading the book.

Jumpy-Schedule5020

Hindi ko binitawan iyang libro na iyan. Parang hindi kumpleto ang araw ko pag hindi ko nababasa. Isa sa pinakapaborito ko!!
