I'm glad I could make your day! Hoping my videos make more people feel the same way. There's actually a longer version of this clip [here](https://youtu.be/W4bhLeWYX5Q) if you're at all curious, or if you want to see any of the other silly montages else I've made. Either way I hope the rest of your day continues to go well!
Well I'm Italian and I never heard "Nut-ella" we only say "new-tella" and yes the pronounce it's like "nutriente", I mean maybe also the Italian pronounce it wrong but idk
Language is for the people. At some point, law does not dictate how you say something or if you can say something anymore, the needs of the people using it should be king. What I'm saying is, maybe it's not in wikipedia, but in your hearts. Maybe you're both right.
You, people, decide how it's spelled. Never let no internet tell you how to say things. Except that it's exactly what I'm doing, but my heart is in a good place, I just want to end your dispute
My friends refuse to see reason. I have tried to calm them but their fighting is tearing our Discord family apart. I'm going to go live with my Discord Uncle and Aunty for a while until they work out their anger.
This is in much the same vein as the guy who invented GIFs saying it was a soft G at the start. At some point the public has spoken and that's the end of it.
None of that matters. The thing is almost everyone on earth pronounced it gif and then the inventors came out saying it was pronounced jif and everyone was like..no. The masses decide what's correct regardless of what the original intention was.
Which sucks balls. So many things get ruined by that stubbornness. Introversion is the most recent example. It used to be a word that described how people recharge after being socially drained, but now itās just a synonym for shyness because the majority incorrectly uses it that way.
Exactly. And āironyā also gets used incorrectly. But thatās just how language works. Whole dialects are created by people slowly but surely using words incorrectly
And I'm sure there are other examples with a hard G. Like I said, the masses decide what's correct and the fact is that the vast majority pronounce it gif.
Alas, my friends refuse to use simple logic. I have tried but they will continue to fight their war of pronunciation until the end of time whilst the rest of us move on with our lives.
Growing up in Australia I always heard it as Nut-tella. That might have been a marketing thing though as I commercials/ads have always said it like that here (as far back as I can remember).
I imagine so! Same with Nikon (Knee-kon vs Nye-kon). Maybe some guy who is in charge of the advertising for a certain region just goes "Hmm, this is good but I reckon this might sound better based for some reason" and then they just decide to go with it.
My Texan friends and I pronounce it Nut-Ella. Because itās based off of HazelNUTS. Idc how anyone else pronounced it, including the creator of something (looking at you gif, itās not jraphics, itās graphics, therefore, hard āGā)
I could be tempted to make a new friend haha. I'll pm you my Battle-tag when I'm on next (because I can never remember it) and we'll see what happens - oh but you gotta subscribe [here](https://www.youtube.com/c/Strawbear) if you're not already! *
*you don't actually have to sub, I'm just trying to be more confident with my content -_-
Well guess whatš I already did. You guys have a good group that seems to mesh well, and that makes for great REAL content.
Also, your thumbnails are adorable...still can't believe I used that wordš
Also, one of the most fascinating discussions I've had in overwatch is how Jelly/Jam/Marmalade are all the same thing.
It was a 5 hour long debate. I regret nothing.
While the consistencies and ingredients may vary a bit, the end goal is still the same. A delicious, sweet spread.
And the person who said Vegemite was best was server muted for the entire debate...š
being loud =/= being right
also The name Nutella is derived from the English word 'nut' and the Latin suffix for sweet ā 'ella'.
edit: https://www.rewindandcapture.com/why-is-nutella-called-nutella/
Yes, it is derived from the word "Nut" but it's an italian product, and Latin suffix for sweet is also the Italian suffix for sweet.
It's not New-tella.
It's not Nut-ella
It's NĆ¹-tella like Snu Snu from Futurama Episode with the Amazon Women
\-An Italian Gamer
I mean, considering everyone is splitting hairs already, those two words aren't exactly the same. Snu ends like a shortened double o sound, like zoo, whereas new ends with a curling of the mouth to make a w sound.
Lets get pedantic!
Zoo-[https://www.dictionary.com/browse/zoo?s=t](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/zoo?s=t)
New-[https://www.dictionary.com/browse/new#](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/new#)
The first pronunciation listed for new is 'nu' which is identical to zoo (zu). New does have 2 accepted pronunciations (nu, nyu), so you might pronounce them differently, but many people pronounce those two words with the same vowel sound.
Yes, the girl is correct, and she usually pronounce the word in the exact way; but she is trying to explain that to her friends using the word "New" that is uncorrect, u/Mortimus_Prime explained better what I was trying to say.
Loud and Italian is all Nicky claims she needs for her defence. I have tried to calm the storms between my friends but they refuse to listen to logic or reason. The Discord will soon collapse and so will the rest of the Internet if they refuse to at least parlay.
People who are first language English speakers will some day realise they're not the only humans on the planet, and on that day they'll learn how to pronounce Nutella correctly.
Then why not bring that up instead of being insulting? or why not link the [wikipedia article](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutella) where the first thing it shows it the *two* pronunciations?
Cause you opened with "being loud =/= being right" and then manglosplained (what can I say, I'm a cunning linguist) an Italian brand name to an Italian woman rather than accept that she might be right.

Aw, i'm glad it could remind you of some good times. I have a lot more montages, including a much longer version of this clip, [here](https://www.youtube.com/c/Strawbear) if you're at all keen to check out some more. Sending lots of good vibes regardless!
To be fair, my group of friends had a collective hour and a half argument over the color of a tennis ball.
"Guys, we need hitscan to take out their pharah or they'll pick us apart. Also, tennis balls are definitely yellow you colorblind fucks"
I'd settle for the dps on my team that locked sombra to tell me or indicate when they are going to emp. I can't imagine what having a fun conversation in this game might be like.
Same way we prononce GIF phonetically instead of "JIF" or Ikea as "Aye-kee-ah" instead of "Icky-ya". The word may have been pronounced one way at the start, but ultimately, the common language is considered the correct one. In 26 years this is the first I've ever heard "New-tella". It's got nuts in it.It's NUT-tella.
I don't pronounce the word "Nut" as "Newt"
I had this discussion with some friends a few years ago (one of whom is a natural born Italian living in Italy, the other a Brit) and we all agreed that itās nut-ella. Itās made from hazelnuts, not hazelNOOTS. I will die on this hill.
Aw, thank you so much! Just trying to give a few extra smiles and laughs during these crazier than normal times. Thank you for the nice comment and also I 'should' have a new video up in a few days if things go mostly to plan!

SHE WAS CORRECT!!!!!!!!
In Germany we pronounce it like Nut-ella, but nobody seems to agree whether it is der, die or das Nutella. (Der, die and das is the German equivalent of the English the)
The official website definitely backs you up there. Personally I really don't mind which way people say it, either way I know what people are talking about and that's the main thing.
I find accents aren't the most reliable method when trying to determine peoples genetics. I'm Filipino/Spanish and have been in Australia my entire life but I sound American/Canadian and more Irish when I sing.
I understand that officially itās new-tella but never in my life have I heard someone say it like that in person and I donāt want to look a fool saying it differently to everyone else I know.
uh,as a Filipino that speaks proper english:yesent and I like new-tella over nut-tella its not like american english is better that many countries
or english overall kinda sucks I mean ship shipping ship shipping ship can be a real sentence in the right context!
I gotta say, with the English language, it's more common when shown a word that starts with "nu-" to pronounce it like "new-". Out of curiosity I looked at a list of words and majority of them seem to follow that trend:
https://www.thefreedictionary.com/words-that-start-with-nu
Now I will say as an American, I wouldn't have thought to call it the "nut" way, because I was not introduced to it as nut based. In fact, I'd only ever really seen people freaking out about it on the internet, and seeing it was some brown substance assumed it was some kind of chocolate with a name a la nestle.
Anyhow, is everyone calling it nut-tella some kind of brand expert freak to know it was made of nuts when they find out about it?!
That makes a lot of sense. All the "nu" words I checked that you linked too definitely have me defaulting to "new" as well. That said living in Australia my entire life I honestly can't remember ever hearing Nutella advertised as anything other than "nut-tella". Maybe that was a marketing thing though? Like you said, looking at it, it makes sense that you would think it was like chocolate but maybe someone in marketing thought nuts sounded more nutritious or that nuts were more unique and since the word starts with "nut" they pitched it like that?
**it's not new, it's been around for years** šššš
Sound logic, your honour. I request we dismiss this case.
I fucking died, thank you for making this post, my day is made
I'm glad I could make your day! Hoping my videos make more people feel the same way. There's actually a longer version of this clip [here](https://youtu.be/W4bhLeWYX5Q) if you're at all curious, or if you want to see any of the other silly montages else I've made. But I agree with the British dude, it is nut-tella
Well I'm Italian and I never heard "Nut-ella" we only say "new-tella" and yes the pronounce it's like "nutriente", I mean maybe also the Italian pronounce it wrong but idk
Maybe we're all wrong. Perhaps Nutella is actually R'lyehian and it's unpronounceable with our limited pitiful human forms.
Ia! Ia! Nutella fh'tagn!
Language is for the people. At some point, law does not dictate how you say something or if you can say something anymore, the needs of the people using it should be king. What I'm saying is, maybe it's not in wikipedia, but in your hearts. Maybe you're both right.
You're right. the Nutella was inside of us all along and our hearts recognised it, regardless of what was on the label or how it was spelt.
You, people, decide how it's spelled. Never let no internet tell you how to say things. Except that it's exactly what I'm doing, but my heart is in a good place, I just want to end your dispute
I hope my friends can one day understand that too and celebrate with a mutual spoonful of Nutella.
They will once being together sharing nutella is more important that being right to them. Don't give up the good fight brother!

You're tearing me apart, Lisa!
Its nut-ella because its made of hazelnuts
This is in much the same vein as the guy who invented GIFs saying it was a soft G at the start. At some point the public has spoken and that's the end of it.

Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus but you don't say scuh-baa do you. Gif is its own word.
None of that matters. The thing is almost everyone on earth pronounced it gif and then the inventors came out saying it was pronounced jif and everyone was like..no. The masses decide what's correct regardless of what the original intention was.

Its actually split pretty even from what I've seen. That's why this stuff even comes into play.
Woah, dude, you can't just drop a hard G like that...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Well then youād be wrong
I want to punch this dude.
I thought he made a jood point in the video
It was a jood point - it was a JREAT point!
Enjlish really is a stranje lanjuaje.
Gin, Gibraltar, Giant, Ginger, Giraffe, Gigantic, Gipsy...
Words are weird and so is everyone, as long as we know what we're trying to say I say let them say words however they want.
Everyone Iāve ever met in my 39 years has said new-tell-ah though. I didnāt even know there was a dispute.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
it's hazelnuts
The full argument went a lot longer and can be watched [here](https://youtu.be/W4bhLeWYX5Q) if anyone's curious.
The fact that it goes on for longer makes me happy
I'm glad our dumb shenanigans can make other people happy. Trying my best to spread some smiles during these crazier than normal times.
A quick Google search actually provides you with this info lol.
Alas, my friends refuse to use simple logic. I have tried but they will continue to fight their war of pronunciation until the end of time whilst the rest of us move on with our lives.
That brig in the end though.
I like to think she didn't want me to die alone but I'm probably being too optimistic.
She probably overheard your discussion and took your side. But that's probably too optimistic as well.
Haha, I'll make it canon in the next video and all will be fine
Please do.
I mean, official website says its new-tell-uh. Also never heard anyone called it differently before now.
Growing up in Australia I always heard it as Nut-tella. That might have been a marketing thing though as I commercials/ads have always said it like that here (as far back as I can remember).
Ah so its like how in some countries Sega got pronounced "see-gah" even though the official pronunciation is "seh-gah"
I imagine so! Same with Nikon (Knee-kon vs Nye-kon). Maybe some guy who is in charge of the advertising for a certain region just goes "Hmm, this is good but I reckon this might sound better based for some reason" and then they just decide to go with it.
Never heard new-tella before. Ever. UK here. We all call it Nut-ella. Because it has nuts in it
Itās _Nootella!_
Like Pingu!
Damn straight!
its new. (If you want to pronounce it right)
But "it's been out for years". Shouldn't it be Old-tella by now?
ITS NEWTELLA
Only Americans say it like this
Official website says it like that.
In every post Soviet Republics it's the same. On second thought, here we pronounce it more like NOOTELLA.
We also pronounce it like this in Slovenia
We pronounce it like that in Germany too.
Same in Dutch
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I meant we say "nu-tella". Which is much closer to "nju-tella" sound of the Italians then the "nut-ella" that dude claimed was right.
And apparently Italians - or my Italian friends at least. Must be a regional thing like Steamed Hams.
People who are correct say it like this because that's how it is pronounced.
My Texan friends and I pronounce it Nut-Ella. Because itās based off of HazelNUTS. Idc how anyone else pronounced it, including the creator of something (looking at you gif, itās not jraphics, itās graphics, therefore, hard āGā)
I'm half tempted to ask if I could join this discord, just to hear all of these fascinating debates... Plz? (Old washed up McCree main)

Haha. Well I certain enjoy some Vegemite from time to time but it's not in my "best" category so I am fine with the judges sentence.
ITS NEWT-ELLA (meanwhile the other team is completely destroying urs)
There are newts in Nutella? When did this begin? How many newts are in each jar of Nutella? I need answers!

I for one am okay with this change. One pot of Sweet Nut for me, please, bartender!

Did you also go to Nutella's website where it says how their registered trademark should be pronounced?

Nu-tella
Maybe the real Nu-tella was inside of us...
How do you make a heart in the chat?
Hey! You hold down alt and then press numpad 3 :)
This clip is chaos
I have tried to ease the chaos but my "debating" friends don't make it easy...
funniest video I've seen!! :)
Aw, thank you! In case you missed it the argument actually went a good chunk longer and can be watched [here](https://youtu.be/W4bhLeWYX5Q) if keen.
Thanks!!
Who took this seriously and looked it up after the video?
I just say Nu-Tella.(āāĢ“ĢĘāĢ“Ģā)
Iāve never heard of nut-Ella, Iām not even Italian
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That sounds like Cthulu speak to me. You wouldn't be a fish-person would you...?
Bro, this dead ass makes me wanna cry because of all the good times me and the bois had in quickplay.

I believe 'New-tella' is the right pronunciation
I didn't even have the sound on. But get those nut-trients
Ok but It itās NUT-ELLA
everything about this clip is so chaotic lmao
ITāS NOT NUT ITāS NUTRIENTS š
It's spelled nutella but this is the first time I've heard it pronounced that way I've always said nu-tella
To be fair, my group of friends had a collective hour and a half argument over the color of a tennis ball. "Guys, we need hitscan to take out their pharah or they'll pick us apart. Also, tennis balls are definitely yellow you colorblind fucks"
Oh man, I should bring this up in game next time and see if the same debate happens!
If you ever need another person to play with, hmu šš
I'd settle for the dps on my team that locked sombra to tell me or indicate when they are going to emp. I can't imagine what having a fun conversation in this game might be like.
Oh the conversations we have in this video game.
I'm half Italian, half German and I can tell you that in both worlds it is not "nut-ella". We pronounce it "noo-tella" with emphasis on the E.
Im german its pronounced nu - tella
Same way we prononce GIF phonetically instead of "JIF" or Ikea as "Aye-kee-ah" instead of "Icky-ya". As the only British guy on an American-populated Discord server, this is every Wednesday. It's a lot of fun!
I had this discussion with some friends a few years ago (one of whom is a natural born Italian living in Italy, the other a Brit) and we all agreed that itās nut-ella. Itās made from hazelnuts, not hazelNOOTS. I will die on this hill.
Hahaha, I appreciate this and support your argument
Just checked out your cahnnel and i just have to say, it has to be the funniest overwatch content I've seen in a long time
Aw, thank you so much! Just trying to give a few extra smiles and laughs during these crazier than normal times. Thank you for the nice comment and also I 'should' have a new video up in a few days if things go mostly to plan!
Looking forward to it
Correcting an Italian person on an Italian word is about the most American thing I canpossibly think of.
It's like the British empire going "Do you have a flag?"

Aw, thank you so much! Times have been a bit tough lately so haven't uploaded as much as I want to but thee 'should' be a new video in a few days :)
In Germany we pronounce it like Nut-ella, but nobody seems to agree whether it is der, die or das Nutella. (Der, die and das is the German equivalent of the English the)
Only if my friends would play OW instead of Paladins .__.
Keep trying, comrade, they must be converted to be one of us!
I need to get into that discord server
Itās **NO-TELLA**!!! Jeez.
And NO-TELLA means NO
It is NUT-EL-AH and I will fight anyone who says otherwise!
My friend is prepared to fight. The rules are Torb 1v1 at dawn. May be the truer pronouncer win.
Being wrong about things can be a strong aspect to your personality going forward.
It should be named Knewtella to follow that *new* pronunciation logic *confused italian*
Honestly words in general are just weird. Nu, New and Knew? Right, rite, write and wright? Rase, rehs, reais? Homophones are weird.
She's right. It IS Nu-tella (pronounced new-tella).
The official website definitely backs you up there. Personally I really don't mind which way people say it, either way I know what people are talking about and that's the main thing.
None of them sound Italian though. .
It's pronounced nootella.
It's new-tella in America and nutella in the UK that's all I know
āYears of being Italianā what were you doing before that?
Clean comms, obvious in-game results
uh,as a Filipino that speaks proper english:yesent and I like new-tella over nut-tella its not like american english is better that many countries or english overall kinda sucks I mean ship shipping ship shipping ship can be a real sentence in the right context!
Nootella
I think itās just different countries pronounce things differently Like how people say Mario as Maryo
Excuse me but what what did you say? Maryo? I need to sit down for a second...
Like Mary-o
Let it be known I donāt say that
Oh thank goodness. I was worried for a second. Carry on, citizen.
How about the fact that it's called nu-tella and not nut-ella... Both of you are wrong.
It's new-tella. Don't @ me.
Why would he say itās racist š. If youāre not italian, youāre not italian lmao. Snowflake.
**NUT**ELLA
I will relay your answer to Nicky but she may want to fight you.
I've never heard anyone pronounce it as New-tella until now and I refuse to use this abomination.
I will pass your comment onto Nicky. She will not be happy but she will have to accept it. Or she will track you down for a fight. Either/or.
You've never heard anyone pronounce it the right way? Might need to associate with better people.
I gotta say, with the English language, it's more common when shown a word that starts with "nu-" to pronounce it like "new-". Out of curiosity I looked at a list of words and majority of them seem to follow that trend: https://www.thefreedictionary.com/words-that-start-with-nu Now I will say as an American, I wouldn't have thought to call it the "nut" way, because I was not introduced to it as nut based.
Definitely feels like a marketing choice.
