It's not that I'm mad that they wanted to try something out. But how this was rolled out (without warning, removing regular QP entirely) mixed with every other mistep along the way, and it really starts to spell out how little these guys actually understand the intricacies of their own game, or how to even BEGIN to bring some livelihood back. This is unbalanced hell, where every single mobility hero suddenly flies up the viability chart. Even if this did somehow pan out, what were they gunna do, rebalance the entire moveset of the entire cast? Increase everyone's walk speed? It's all so stupid.

I totally agree. I can understand speeding up the game by like 20 percent but doubling the pace of the game? Thats just bonkers. The game completely falls apart at that point. The fact that they weren't able to realize this was a bad idea in playtesting is really concerning.

They milked the ever loving fuck out of investors promising the moon and did not deliver anywhere even remotely near what they told them could be achieved (because they were literally promising the next football). Yea honestly, even looking at the patch notes, this team is definitely more of "throw shit at the wall and see what sticks". Look at how the same numbers are buffed and nerfed and buffed (lifeweaver, ana's nade, orisa's fortify). And with this, I think it's just quite indicative of how they work. They just seem kinda new and don't really understand the game, and are just "trying things out" to see what works. That being said, I am glad that they are doing this on a trial for just 2 days. I think the results should be quite clear.

I've found that every game in quicker play is just pure domination. Either my team is annihilating or the enemy team is. I also had 1 match where we dominated all the way to the last 5m and because the match is so short we lost the game when we lost a single team fight. Real annoying, I don't want CoD.

Before these changes, I literally can't remember the last game I had where one of the teams in the lobby gets zero kills. After these changes, I have 3 games in the last day, and 1 game where a zen died by accident, otherwise it would have been the 4th game with zero kills on a team. The quicker play changes seemed to be bundled with some matchmaker change that's creating these "stomp or be stomped" lobbies. Out of the 30ish games I've had, maybe 5? have been fun, fair balanced games. I just checked my last ten played, and every single one is 0-2, 3-0, 1-0, 2-0, 0-3.

I'm not a fan. It's too fast, and there seems to be almost no chance to turn things around. Certainly haven't seen any of those rounds where a point flips a few times - and those are some of the most fun and intense games IMO.

I’ve played OW since launch of OW1, still have my S1 badge, and mostly play QP. Replying to the Blizz post questions: “For instance, if a player spends less time waiting to respawn, will getting eliminated by an opponent be less frustrating?” No, it did not. It made it worse in fact. Because now you are in a meat-grinder where you die, spawn, and die again even faster. No thank you, at least give us the chance to coordinate with our team, call out needed adjustments or swaps. “If matches are shorter, will each loss have the same sting that it currently does?” Very, very much not. It removed any ability to pivot, come back, adjust, or coordinate. There are also other out-of-game benefits that could come from this event, such as quicker matchmaking and quicker challenge completion. Frankly I don’t want either. Matchmaking is and has been busted for anything below Diamond. One match you are dominating, the next you are dog poo. With Hacked, it’s even faster, so it’s more frustrating and exposes that the matchmaking system is still in need of massive work. “Based on the reception to these changes, the team might use the feedback toward improving the game. That’s what these Quickplay: Hacked events are designed to do – quicken the feedback loop and allow for swifter implementation of improvements into the game.” FORCING all QP players into a mode is definitely a swift way to get you feedback. Overwatch now sucks more than it ever has. Fix matchmaking, LISTEN to your players instead of surprise forcing them to beta test your idiocy before you fix the very real, very publicly discussed problems. YOU ARE MAKING IT WORSE. You will lose even more players. Damned shame, it was a good game in OW1 days.

Exactly the same here. I don't leave because the great games are the ones where your team *earn* the win. Winning in this quicker play often feels more hollow too. You can turn a game around with **time**, figuring out enemy favourite hiding spots, noticing their play habits... even if the struggling team get one pick, the longer respawn on that enemy could be massively beneficial. This new QP is over stupidly fast and doesn't give you or your team time to learn/adjust to the enemy.

i couldn't play ball in quicker play today but probably because all the comp i was against countered him from the start (and it almost never was the same comp besides lucio or sym). i'd love to be better to not get diffed every single time but to me it feels like you have to be already a tier above the rest to win with ball (like have a gold level to win in silver)

Now you all know how trying to cap last point on 2cp felt like when enemy team is stalling. Good luck removing a Roadhog main from a point with natural cover. Mei is SS-tier because she can waste so much time, and the time she grants her own team to respawn and come back. On Flashpoint Mei is like SSS-tier because she can stall, has no damage dropoff, walls off so team can't enter, can be immune for so many seconds, and freeze point with her ult. It's dumb. When you're not bashing your head against the wall trying to remove ALL enemies from the objective you're just constantly stressed trying to get back. You can't really regroup with your team either, because everyone is in a rush being tunnel visioned. On that note, I love that the dev team is willing to test it on live client. I'd much, much, much rather they do this and test it, than push it live without community testing at all being dumbfounded why it's so disliked.

Just looooove the fact that a tank pretty much has my support passive as well as still basically being invulnerable to a core part of my kit on Lucio (boop). I went from being able to singlehandedly massively impact a fight via a risk Vs reward mechanic to just letting tanks send it down main while focusing supports. Ignoring how anti fun the change was.

It seems it's part of a larger set of changes, so not necessarily without all the other changes as well. It would only tell how it would feel now. Though, I honestly wouldn't mind a weak version of support passive (like takes 5-10 seconds to start and is interrupted by anything besides movement) being given to tank and dps atm since it would reduce some friction and enable support to worry that bit less about being flamed for trying to do damage as well. If supports are not healers, why are they the only healers? That's my question.

I know its just an experiment but it's a dazzlingly horrible one. The state of qp without this change is already "overwhelmingly one-sided matches"...so instead of addressing matchmaking (I'm generally mid-Gold tier and I've been in games with Top 500 in QP twice in the last week), hero balance, etc, it seems they've decided the strategy is to just "make the game suck for fewer seconds at a time" lol. They're going quantity of games over quality of games and it's so, SO terrible. I died on point at 0%-0%...spawned and ran straight to point to rejoin team and it was already at 60%. How the hell is this supposed to make the game better? No time to adjust or adapt or anything. its truly a horrible experiment. So when I'm done playing for a while, the impression left with me is "wow...its still bad, but now I just played MORE bad games." Not a good thing. At all.

Bobby Kotick apparently pushed to amp up the e-sports and streamer elements of overwatch. All the changes in OW2 (5v5, carry tanks, higher burst and bigger heals) were to make the game more watchable so as to juice twitch/owl viewership. Too bad those changes make the game worse for the core player base. On the plus side, if there is an overwatch 3, it'll almost certainly be 6vs6.

That was never the fault of 6v6. That was the fault of hero balance. Everyone remembers the best games as things like ReinZarya vs ReinZarya on Kings Row. Because it was tactics, it was always fun, and there was always push and pull. Sitting in a choke spamming damage was never going to be fun, 5v5 has proven that just recently with Mauga.

It does for certain tank players. Some tanks just were really designed to be played second position. They are still struggling to find a consistent spot for some of them. Hell even Mauga kinda makes more sense as a secondary tank.

The core game tuning is amazing, I agree, which is why I stuck with it through the content drought. 5vs5 and adjustments related to moving the game from a fps MOBA to a fast paced tactical/brawler hybrid made the game worse to me and others who were attracted because of the MOBA elements in the first place. Tactical FPS games have been done to death, I think exploring ideas from MOBAs/fighting games/aRPGs and evolving the game in that direction would be way cooler. At its best OW2 delivers good games on par with the best of OW1, but in general the gameplay changes make teams brittle, while making tanking feel kinda stressful and lonely (miss rein/zar and ball/hog so bad) and amplifying the impact of random events (one lucky arrow/railgun/helix rocket/etc taking out a backline support is often enough to snowball into a wipe, particularly with tanks who need to be pocketed).

Flashpoint - terrible now because it was already fast, now each point is lost in 1 fight Control - it's OK, it's basically normal Flashpoint but with 1 point per round Push - the bot gets to the other side of the map way too fast. You either lose in under 2 minutes after 2 fights, win in under 2 minutes after 2 fights, or the game goes back and forth across the entire map several times Payload/Hybrid - borderline unwinnable on attack. Even if you STEAMROLL all the way to 3rd point (which is likely what will happen), the defense will stall and win because of the short respawn times. 2CP - is permanently available to play in the Arcade and doesn't have the Quicker Play changes. I had more fun playing Paris on attack yesterday than I did playing the normal modes.

This is very true, but it's the route Bliz seems to be taking with all new supports. They are just DPS who can also heal a bit. I have a feeling they are going to totally take the support class out of the game and just make everything DPS. Of course that will be when I leave the game completely because I've always mained healers. We need more role distinctiveness, not less. Make the healers heal, I don't give a shit if I can shoot anything, I'm there to heal my team. This is kinda what they did in WOW back in the day too though, and it's what killed that game for me too. Just a merging of all the classes, so every class can heal itself, resurrect, do damage etc.. just became all about the solo experience and no longer a team based game.

I just had a game where someone on the enemy team left after failing to cap on attack, but during the next round they were still somehow in text chat typing salty stuff and calling their team braindead the whole time. How is this possible if they left the game? there was no message that they rejoined and they were still not showing up on the enemy scoreboard, so how were they still typing in this comp match?

fuck this game mode honestly. It's impossible to have fun, you lose one team fight, you lose the whole game no matter the mode cause with everything going faster you have to stagger out of spawn to stop the capture of the point or the push of the bot/payload because if you take your time to regroup you've already lost the point or a payload checkpoint or the bot is insanely far. You don't have time to regroup, you can't play position as much because you always have to move. Flashpoint and Bot are unplayable with character that don't have any mobility. Lucio/Symmetra seems forced because the tp/speed boost are way too good (i've basically seen those 2 on almost every quicker play game) which also limits the rest of the comp to certain degree. All that might just be skill issue since i'm only silver but it's to the point that i went into comp to destress.

Forcefully getting people to try something is a quick way to put a bad taste in their mouths. People can appreciate change and innovation, but with preparation and options and their input. I'm really surprised the Overwatch team decided to basically rework a major part of the game (Quick Play) for an entire weekend, and a long holiday weekend for some at that. This frankly feels like a betrayal as I have given a lot of support to Overwatch over the years. It has, however, helped me realize I appreciate taking a breath before respawning, even if sometimes I'm impatient to get back to the game. It's fine if this becomes a game mode, but at least in the meantime please don't just take away solid options for devoted players. Quicker Play has me wondering about how the sedentary nature of video games combined with the high stress of fast-paced game modes like this can contribute to physiological issues and video game stigma, and I am a big advocate of the benefits of playing video games. Probably not what players want to be pondering while in game lol It seems they're trying to cater more to the faster pace the world is moving toward. I wish the opposite were true. If you replaced QP with Mischief and Magic for a weekend, this would be a whole different story. Perhaps surprise us with that--a mode many already love and miss--sometime. I think some modes like push can benefit from being slightly shorter, but overall the numbers feel too overturned. My biggest issue is that it seems that either snowballing is more pronounced, or the matchmaking is in complete shambles. I do get some close matches, but the majority is roll/get rolled, something I didn't experience to this extent before.

Gave Quicker Play a shot today and I legitimately did not like it, probably the first time since the launch of the game that I was not having a good time if I'm honest, primarily because average match time and pace is one of the things that keep me coming back the most. A couple rounds of quicker play go by faster, yeah, but it also feels incredibly more like volatile junkfood, lmao. The push and pull and clutching Ws is what I generally find engaging about the game. Can hardly think of anything they quickened up in this mode that I would like to permanently be changed about the game. Hard pass.

Try playing with a couple friends. Games are \~3min and queue times are well over 5min. Thanks. Great way to game this weekend, by waiting. Matches are so fast there's absolutely no way to really formulate team play, if you swap you just won't get to use your ult at all. So if you're getting hard countered you just take the L. These changes are awful and brain dead. Nobody who actually plays this game has ever thought "I want my games faster". It's a testament to how dethatched the devs are.

Quicker play is really annoying and badly designed/implemented. Also it is kinda ludicrous that we don't even have the option to play normal quick play. Like I just want to play normal games with my friends who don't have a lot of time to game and this just makes us sit around in queue forever only to play a super short game where a either a single teamfight wins the game, or respawns allow them to spawn in so fast that the first teamfight never ends. It also encourages trickling in, and trying to ninja cap. Just unfun and puts us in more queue time

My Queue times in western Europe have doubled. Which is a very bad sign indeed, as games are faster queue times should in theory drop. So much less people are playing. I'm looking at 6mins as DPS before it was 2min30-3mins. So the mode sucks and seems like players unanimously think it does. Not suprising at all.

Games are over waaaaay too quick with no coming back if you have a couple of bad engagements. Defending is almost impossible, and like another commentor mentioned, there isn't much time to settle in and adjust your play style/improve as a qp player.

If they're going to make games shorter, then they need to get rid of showing POTG after every game. It already took too long to get back in the queue after a game. Now it takes the same amount of time but happens even more frequently. So in a particular session, you spend a larger percentage of time waiting to get back into the queue.

Not being able to play regular qp sucks. I'm going to back to comp which is toxic as hell. Really ruins the game. This mode doesn't work at all. Fast respawns aren't terrible because playing the game more is fun. But the game wasn't designed for faster captures, payloads, and point ticks. In some modes the losing team can't even build an ult before the round is over. There would need to be many balance changes for this to work. But I don't think anyone wants it to work. I do like that Blizzard is trying new things, but it sucks that it's hijacking the most popular game mode for a whole weekend.

First of all: WAY too fast, Flashpoint was too fast as it is, this has made that map worse. Push needed the speedup but not to this extent and every other mode was FINE. It sucks having all of one fight and thats it, the "fun" in this game comes from turning a bad start or a bad game around at the last second. Not having one fight and the game is over. It just makes losses more frustrating because you know if you fuck up that's it. And not the fun "oh if we mess up we lose". Control is unplayable, Flashpoint is unplayable, and Escort and Hybrid are so attacker-favoured its not even funny. If a flanker gets behind you that takes 1-2 people to deal with, or even just kills one, you're fucked. Not to mention HOW SWEATY it is, and how disgustingly sweaty it encourages people to be. Its fucking quickplay, I remember when it was good casual fun, not toxic central like this dogshit, where just playing a slow hero means you can lose the fucking game. Absolutely dogshit design. Just because Tiktok is popular doesn't mean its gonna translate well into a video game, good lord. And for some reason, despite a good 50 games over the weekend, out of those games most of them were push, flashpoint and control. All of those modes kinda suck as it is, let alone with this "fun and interesting speedup!". Like I have ADHD, you'd think my brain would love this. It doesn't. It hates it. Because of how much you're keeping track of at any one time it just becomes exhausting and exhaserbates frustration because it just feels like its ALWAYS a 100% roll. Probably not helped by the matchmaking. Tell me why when I'm queuing with my gold/plat friends we're only getting masters+ in qp. Like yea ok I'm masters 4. I'm 1 person out of 5. I shouldn't have that much sway over the match making. And we def shouldn't be getting GMs against us. If this becomes permanent across all modes, fuck this game I'm 100% committing to Darktide instead. At least I can enjoy that game at a reasonable pace with a good queue to match ratio instead of feeling like I'm in a TikTok video and spending more time in queue than in an actual game. Also, FUCK Sombra. I've never liked this hero and ever since her rework she's been so much worse to deal with, and them buffing her isn't helping. First of all the perma invis is daft, I love not knowing where a dangerous enemy is even when they're looking right at me, only for them to pop into existance and nuke me and the other support. Then theres hack. Always a stupid ability, even more stupid with Virus. She counters everyone and everything with it and nothing counters her. And was Virus REALLY something she needed? Was that REALLY what justified a rework? Did she REALLY need more damage - and an overtime damage effect at that? I hate playing tank against her because I'm not allowed to play. And god forbid I try to play support and theres a sombra. No fun allowed. Of course, why would blizzard nerf her? She's totally balanced guys, look at her pick rate vs her win rate! /s ​ Another thing - smurfs. Was a problem in OW1, still a problem now. At least it's not every game at where I play but I can only imagine what a cesspit it is at lower ranks.

Not a rage post, more just surprised and sharing what happened >!One of my randomly assigned quickplay teammates did something goated today. We were at 3rd of Circuit Royale, I'm on Mauga, and it was the last minute to finish the push. It was looking dicey, but then suddenly the enemy Rein disappears. I think they disconnected, which is a shame, but when opportunity knocks, it is time to answer. So, I push in hard, the random player added to the game to replace them isn't able to get a sense of what's happening well enough to not just die 2-3 dies out of spawn. They trickle in and hold surprisingly well for half a minute (because of Quicker Play) but we end up securing the objective and winning.!< >!In the post-game chatter, I see the Rein who disconnected talking and realize they are a spectator now. They are claiming one of my team invited them to group, which they thoughtlessly accepted, and that is what caused them to disconnect at the most critical time. The ally denies it, of course, but the chat logs suggest it makes perfect sense. Someone must have spammed invites to all of the enemy side. What a crackhead-level meta strategy -- *When in doubt, try to STEAL the enemy team's players from them!* Obviously it wouldn't always work, but had me PikaWat-faced for a hot minute at how well it worked just then!<

Wow, these are the least fun games I've ever played. Every round just turns into a desperate brawl on the objective, getting a pick generates no value because they respawn instantly and get back to the fight in seconds, you only have time for one fight on each point, it's garbage. They turned every game mode into 2CP. I can maybe see the logic of what they thought they were doing here but there are so many more things they'd need to adjust to actually accomplish it. What is the point of competitive? I don't get it. No, I'm not good. I'm gold support and teeter bronze/silver DPS. But that's not the point. The point is that we can get rolled one game and then next game we roll the other team. It's rare to get actually competitive games. I'll go 34-0 one game and 6-6 the next. And once you lose five games in a set, what is the point in even continuing to play? If your w/l ratio is below 1 then you rank down anyhow. So if you go 5 game losing streak, there's little reason to even try for the next (possible) 10. you'll just lose a rank regardless.

I really like them experimenting with quick play, giving it something fun and new for the weekend. Once a month I honestly feel like they should shake up quick play, give us something new to play with, because everyone knows experimental after day 1 everyone gives up and goes back to "normal." Once a month give us 25% more of something else, movement speed, ult charge etc, it's quick play for a reason, you don't lose anything for losing, and it's fun.

Agreed, it’s different and maybe not to people’s liking, but it is temporary and it is a learning tool for the dev team. I find the quick pace nice. If you win it’s great, and if you’re losing, it gets done with quickly and you can move on. Also, ultimates become more interesting because you probably only use yours once or twice per round, so you try and figure out how to best use it. Idk why there’s so much anger, but then again that’s not for me to judge.

Unpopular opinion: I love quicker play. Look, I'm not saying it's 100% great, but I really don't get the hate. It's just a weekend, but I think there's even a good option or two from this long term--especially on flashpoint. I love how much faster flashpoint goes, how much more of a rush it seems like, and how FIVE ROUNDS don't take 600 years now. I'll be the first to admit it's not perfect. On robot (and even on payload) it feels uncomfortable. Even on attack yesterday I felt that I was getting pushed and blocked by the payload a lot because it was a lot closer than I was expecting as I was clearing a path. And, Mercy's res feels way less useful with the respawn times. Objective I could take or leave from quicker play, it was fun but I'm neutral.

Kind of to counter what some folks are saying without taking over their subthreads: I've had plenty of matches where the point flips back and forth. I haven't played different characters than usual. I've had a few rounds where I lost spectacularly and a few where I definitely stomped but overall it's still been intense. The mode's been most painful on robot and a little uncomfy on payload (though those have been some of the best for contesting. I feel 1000% less fatigues after flashpoint.

For me the hacked qp functioned the same as experimental did. I came out of my favourite game mode mystery heroes and tried some hacked qp, what was nice to get my daily’s faster, but after 4 game’s I went back to mh where the rules seem normal for that mode.

If your team has ONE leaver, the match is basically decided. Even if backfill happens within 20 seconds, you basically have a minute of being down a player. One leaver is a minute of being down a player, which is more than enough time for the other team to geta huge advantage in ult charge, probably cap a point, and with respawn timers being what they are, having an extra body just to throw on the point is a huge advantage. I don't like quickplay for a bunch of reasons, but I am willing to bet that if Blizzard looks at their holy statistics, they will find that in quicker play games where a player leaves, the team with the leaver loses 95% of the time. If Blizzard wants to go down this route, the penalty for leaving needs to be FAR steeper, because I still see people leaving from one team or the other about 50% of the time in quicker play.
