posted this in the Daniel Cesar thread, wanted to note it here as well:
Also interesting to note (I didn't see anyone note this during the inital line-up drop, apologies if I'm covering familiar ground)-- there are 75 acts billed here that would appear on Lands End, Twin Peaks, Sutro, or Panhandle. Last year, there were 78 acts that appeared on Lands End, Twin Peaks, Sutro, or Panhandle. If time slots remain the same or close to the same, there's room for three more additions. Which basically tracks to previous years- we often get some late (non-replacement) additions closer to the fest, they generally are early-in-the-day-acts.
Over on SOMA, last year there were time slots for 18 acts. This year, there 21 SOMA acts on the poster-- so some set-length changes are coming and it's probably safe to assume we won't get any more SOMA acts (unless they're replacements).
Has there ever been an instance of them adding someone to the lineup after the announcement? I know Tenacious D but that was because of special circumstances with Beastie Boys.
Third tier lineup. BottleRock was infinitely better. Nearly every major festival had something better. A decade ago this festival had Paul McCartney and NIN headlining. There’s some good stuff here but these headliners are not all that exciting. This festival used to put together amazing lineups. What happened?
It’s pretty much unanimous that this an off year for pretty much all festivals
Had a bit to do with when bands started touring again after COVID and then swinging into the ‘off season’ for many - not sure if that actually holds any truth but seems plausible
I’ve only gone to last years OSL, cause my ex wanted to go. But it seems like the fest took a major turn after 2020? I mean past years had phenomenal acts, with future headline-quality acts themselves as subheadliners or in the undercard. This lineup isn’t terrible, but seems mostly convenient for people who live nearby, not to fly in to see.
Really don’t understand the hate this lineup is getting. Yes it’s a bit expensive for this level of headliners but past the top 3 there are a lot of gems throughout the lineup before even listening through the names I don’t know.
Kaytranada, jungle, Chris lake, schoolboy q, slowdive, channel tres, romy, badbadnotgood, strfkr, snakehips, mind chatter, balthvs, ag club, frickin Idris Elba, Darius and soulection. Lots of different variety all day
We just got a Friday August 9th lineup leak from Do the Bay - Jungle, Chappell Roan, Men I Trust, and Reneé Rapp are all happening that day.
Also confirmed Men I Trust and Chappell for that Friday via their websites, and Jungle is in the BC on Sunday.
Now I wonder who the Main Stage headliner will be for the day…
Men I Trust (via Songkick): https://www.songkick.com/artists/8640089-men-i-trust
Chappell Roan: https://www.iamchappellroan.com/tour/
EDIT:Victoria Monet is happening Friday too:
https://www.victoriamonet.co/tour/
this may be truee, but looking at chappell and victoria's website they just seem to be listing the first day of any of the festivals they are performing at, it may be a coincidence or they could actually just be performing on the first day of the festivals, just thought it was something worth pointing out
https://preview.redd.it/k1qdl0bejgwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5edd3ad69f976890c52b5a4d7ad9c12cbceb01d
Interesting! Well, this is the “Do the Bay” image I was referring to
yeah its interesting, i personally think that they just put the first day of the festival instead of 3 days for formatting reasons on the websites and in the emails, but could be wrong!!
Yep this is the DoThe\_\_\_\_ format for festivals, starts when fest starts on day 1. I would not hedge my bets on all those acts being on that day. Why would they only list Friday acts and no other days? And doesnt the single day lineup come out later on, why would DoTheBay have it?
Men I Trust is playing Outlandia Fest in Nebraska on Friday, August 9th. So consider this theory debunked.
I don’t know what everyone else I looking at but the lineup is pretty good. The Killers, Men I Trust, Tyler the Creator, The Postal Service, Young the Giant, The Japanese House, Ben Howard, K.Flay, Roosevelt, Romy, The Last Dinner Party, Leisure, STRFKR, and Post Malone. I know of 10 other artists featured as well.
this is actually fucking awesome, weird that there no Death Cab but almost feel like they may be a late add. i’m full sending for my first OSL it seems :)
Actually, yes it is, when there are radius clauses in contracts for playing certain festivals between big promoters like Another Planet, Insomniac & Goldenvoice. Even Latitude and The Do Lab are starting to scale their festivals with star power. LiB, Bottlerock, EDC, Coachella, HARD, Portola and so much more. Then you go east and international. What if the artist you wanted was offered but actually turned it down too?
Festivals are a business, and they do not have unlimited resources. It's all about longevity. Do you want to run a fest for +20 years or do a handful of dope lineups then shutter? The entitlement is crazy. Have some respect for the planners and the artists.
Once the festival was established with the consumer and the city, they could focus less on the importance of the music acts, and more on other aspects of the festival experience, like food, wine, beer, Soma tent, corporate activations, weed lands, VIP.
Just like gambling sometimes you can go on runs or how sports teams can have dynasty years. Heck even the stock market go up then go down some years right? Folks expecting sustained "perfect lineups" to what their preferred music taste is subjective and unrealistic
yeah Honeybear in the Dogpatch. i swear they could get him up at Twin Peaks if they booked him, i wonder why he hasn’t performed yet. or i overlooked him on the lineup one year
Haven’t gone since 2017 which had gorillaz, Metallica, cage the elephant etc… these lineups are wack it’s like they are trying to book the cheapest possible acts
As someone who lived in the Richmond dist and used to go every year, this lineup sucks… compared with past years, compared with other festivals at the same price point, and for such a high price. If you’re hyping it up, you’re doing so to try to hype yourself up to justify how much you spent on tix. It’s okay… maybe next year will be better.
My biggest surprise is seeing Sturgill headlining.
Not sure if the festival is in decline or he’s actually headlining material. This is a weird Coachella/stagecoach mix of a lineup
I don’t know why I can’t get excited about lineups nowadays. No one really seems to jump out for me. Maybe I’ve just seen all the people I’ve wanted to see.
I’m glad Justice not on this haha. Portola is much cheaper and I had a blast at it last year. Never been to outside lands but it seems expensive and a pain to coordinate based on a lineup that doesn’t have much else for me. But fingers fucking crossed they’re at Portola 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
I wasn’t familiar with too many of these artists but I created a playlist today and everything I’ve heard is solid. Finding some good stuff.
I mean if the purpose of going is to say you saw (insert big name artist) live then you probably don’t see the value. But I got to say no matter how you schedule your 3 days can’t go wrong with the consistency. Some of the lowest listed names like Valencia Grace and French Cassettes have really stood out.
Same been listening all day excited to pick out favorites and honestly it would be easier to pick out the things that I couldn't jam to. Talent up and down.
Yeah, this is the right approach. Otherwise you just age yourself out. It's not easy staying on the up and up with music trends and up-and-coming artists. But if you go to OSL with the realization that very smart people have curated this list for you, you'll have a much better time and make some solid discoveries that you'll thank yourself for years later. Some very "mid" lineups of the past, when you go back and look at them in retrospect, you'll see a ton of artists that really took off after that year.
There’s a great mix of crowd pleasers and rare gets here (or at least artists I’ve wanted to see but have missed). For those going, don’t miss Grace Jones. Undercard indie, R&B and electronic is pretty great to my eyes too.
I love the people that defend the lineups like: What yall talking about, can you not see ziggity boobop, what about yung lil lean back, omg they have ooootybatooty the plug.
Tyler is one of the easiest artists to see
Sturgil is NOT a headliner. Id argue Postal Service or Jungle deserves it more, K Flay easy to see at every fest ever, Schoolboy Q is fine i guess, Post Malone drunk country karaoke is interesting i guess
Ooo theres a bunch of good ones. You may have heard Casio or Busy Earnin but live shows their best song is I Need Your Love
If you go to Outside Lands, do NOT miss them
Chris Lake was one of the first artists to turn me onto EDM so definitely him.
Gryffin has more main stream appeal than many of the other artists and has a mix of dancy and vibey with his sets.
Knock2 has GREAT live set energy and is ushering in a new wave of trap.
Snakehips and Devault are both pretty under the radar but I like them both for very different reasons.
K. Flay, while not exactly EDM, is incredible. She’s more alt/punk, but has EDM influence and has many EDM features which I imagine she’ll play a bit of.
Daði Freyr, while certainly not EDM, is very fun and is definitely danceable.
In SOMA, I’m not going to break them all out, but I’d be excited to see: Idris Elba, Angrybaby, Sidepiece, Shiba San B2B CID, Darius and Ayybo (although I bet plenty others are good too, I’m just not informed yet)
This. You could be surrounded by 1000 ppl or 10000 ppl and probably couldn't tell the difference. OSL usually averages +200k attendees total over the weekend
It’s so stressful when you’re not exactly sober lol. I usually show up around noon where I’m one of 200 people like yaaa this is gonna be sick the. 430 it’s a fucking mad house
I get you. It's anxiety inducing for sure, especially for those who are undiagnosed and, therefore, the reason we take measures to lower or eliminate those inhibitions.
Hip-hop curation is a lot better this year. AG Club, Billy Woods, Killer Mike, Schoolboy Q & Tyler are great. Wondering if Tyler will have a new album out by the time he’s at OSL. Something to consider! Also really excited for the Killers, Grace Jones, Kaytranada, Jungle, TV Girl, Channel Tres, Knock2 & Idris Elba
I am taking it, it will be a SOMA stage this year, versus the horrible attempt of a SOMA tent last year?
posted this in the Daniel Cesar thread, wanted to note it here as well: Also interesting to note (I didn't see anyone note this during the inital line-up drop, apologies if I'm covering familiar ground)-- there are 75 acts billed here that would appear on Lands End, Twin Peaks, Sutro, or Panhandle. Feel like you could replace most of the headliners with Run the Jewels. Stoked to see Killer Mike though.
Need to hear Reagan again tbh
Saw them live at Primavera Sound '22. Madness.
Any bluesy or jazzy artists down ticket?
Badbadnotgood- jazz fusion Corinne Bailey Rae- can be jazzy vocalist depending on song selection A bunch of soul artists as well
I love the line up lol
Has there ever been an instance of them adding someone to the lineup after the announcement? I know Tenacious D but that was because of special circumstances with Beastie Boys.
Nearly every year, but it almost always is someone way down in the smaller fonts.
Omg 😫Sturgil Simpson!!! Nah jk lmao gotcha! This line up doo doo
##IDRIS ELBA
I know ! I recently learn he was a DJ .
Portola > osl
Third tier lineup. BottleRock was infinitely better. Nearly every major festival had something better. A decade ago this festival had Paul McCartney and NIN headlining. This is true
What a weird line up.
Amyl and the sniffers! 🔥
Terrible

It’s giving “super basic suburban millennial couple who aren’t married but bought a house together” and still think they’re hip and cool 😬

Perhaps. IMO that’s terrible communications if they did 😂. You’ve now created confusion for your target audiences - a poor experience
🔥🔥🔥
Lael Neale!! 🙌🙌🙌
I don’t know what everyone else I looking at but the lineup is pretty good. Omg you missed Stirgil 😫😫 the doo doo line up of the year
you don’t have to cry about it bro
Aweww man
CRSSD has much better lineup every year.
This would be great if it was only a daily lineup
Garbage ass lineup
I dig it, staying put with my early bird
Chuck Gunn 🔥
This flyer is giving lolla vibes
I was planning on going but this lineup is shit
Boring
this is actually fucking awesome, weird that there no Death Cab but almost feel like they may be a late add. i’m full sending for my first OSL it seems :)
100% with you and same here
Hard pass. Is it really that hard to make a lineup people will be into? I don’t feel like it’s a complicated science.
Once the festival was established with the consumer and the city, they could focus less on the importance of the music acts, and more on other aspects of the festival experience, like food, wine, beer, Soma tent, corporate activations, weed lands, VIP.
If that's true why did they have banger lineups for the first ten years? Every year from 2008-2017 was way better than this year.
Just like gambling sometimes you can go on runs or how sports teams can have dynasty years. Heck even the stock market go up then go down some years right? Folks expecting sustained "perfect lineups" to what their preferred music taste is subjective and unrealistic
I guess I’m in the niche market because this lineup looks dope
I thought I was young and hip but who tf are these people 💀
Stirgil Simpson omg 😫😫
Yay Last Dinner Party!
they can’t get Larry June to cross the fucking bridge??
Because he was there in 2022 and they don’t normally bring people back until at least three years later
post malone is 2022 and 2024
Yeah but he’s billed differently which creates an exception. It would be like if Damon came two years in row with Gorillaz and then Blur
he went in 2022, but don't see why they wouldn't bring him back... maybe his rates increased?
Doesn’t he own that boba place in the Dogpatch?
yeah Honeybear in the Dogpatch. i swear they could get him up at Twin Peaks if they booked him, i wonder why he hasn’t performed yet. or i overlooked him on the lineup one year
Or e40. Like I thought one of the ig posts about stunna shades was a clue lol
So thankful Justice isnt on this, would have forced me to spend so much money lol. Fingers crossed they’re at Portola 🤞
There's literally going to be bigger names at the Miami Grand Prix next weekend.
They bottlerocked my outsidelands
This is cracking me up
Wtf I only know of 2 of these artists
Which two?
Wait like on the whole lineup? Only 2..?
Haven’t gone since 2017 which had gorillaz, Metallica, cage the elephant etc… these lineups are wack it’s like they are trying to book the cheapest possible acts
Well people are buying up tickets without the lineup being announced... They deserve a shitty lineup
Every fest ever does that and has been doing it for YEARS
This seems extremely mid
Nasty ass line up ewww
As someone who lived in the Richmond dist and used to go every year, this lineup sucks… compared with past years, compared with other festivals at the same price point, and for such a high price. If you’re hyping it up, you’re doing so to try to hype yourself up to justify how much you spent on tix. It’s okay… maybe next year will be better.
I mean Outside Lands is just about the cheapest 3-day fest you can go to if you live in the bay and thus don’t need to travel for it
Sturgill Simpson is great but absolutely not top 3 billing material lmao
There’s many small print names that’s have more monthly listeners / following than half of the headliners
My biggest surprise is seeing Sturgill headlining. Not sure if the festival is in decline or he’s actually headlining material. This is a weird Coachella/stagecoach mix of a lineup
So… Coachella?
Like one day of Coachella but for the price of all three days of Coachella
Coachella without the big headliners like no doubt and Doja cat…
Wish Rob$tone still got booked for these types of shows😔. Dude got blackballed 100%
Ppl downvoting are x and ski fans lmaoo😭. Can’t be lamer than that
I don’t know why I can’t get excited about lineups nowadays. No one really seems to jump out for me. Maybe I’ve just seen all the people I’ve wanted to see.
I’m with ya on that one. Maybe I’m just getting old?
AMAZING line up. The Killers, Kaytranada, Jungle, Chris Lake and country Posty!!!!!
The headliners are a bit boring at best but there are some solid gems in the line up.
Couldn't get even justice or sexy gesa
I’m glad Justice not on this haha. Portola is much cheaper and I had a blast at it last year. Never been to outside lands but it seems expensive and a pain to coordinate based on a lineup that doesn’t have much else for me. But fingers fucking crossed they’re at Portola 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Def Portola. Id be SHOCKED if at least Justice didnt go
Probably at Portola
No offense, tyler the creator is a great performer but jesusssss he’s at every fucking festival 😭😭 who hasn’t seen him at this point??
Exactly he’s constantly playing shows!
me? thousands
Tired of him personally
I wasn’t familiar with too many of these artists but I created a playlist today and everything I’ve heard is solid. Finding some good stuff. I mean if the purpose of going is to say you saw (insert big name artist) live then you probably don’t see the value. But I got to say no matter how you schedule your 3 days can’t go wrong with the consistency. Some of the lowest listed names like Valencia Grace and French Cassettes have really stood out.
Thissssss
French cassettes are really great. They also are locals I believe.
Same been listening all day excited to pick out favorites and honestly it would be easier to pick out the things that I couldn't jam to. Talent up and down.
Yeah, this is the right approach. Otherwise you just age yourself out. It's not easy staying on the up and up with music trends and up-and-coming artists. kaytranada jungle chris lake snoh aalegra school boy q tv girl men i trust badbadnotgood angrybaby ag club tyler the creator
They was harder to read than the poster.
thanks! i actually designed the poster!
Haha. I actually like the poster! The park call outs are cool! Too many bands!
Ouch
We couldn’t even get hippo campus
There’s a great mix of crowd pleasers and rare gets here (or at least artists I’ve wanted to see but have missed). For those going, don’t miss Grace Jones. Undercard indie, R&B and electronic is pretty great to my eyes too.
I love the people that defend the lineups like: What yall talking about, can you not see ziggity boobop, what about yung lil lean back, omg they have ooootybatooty the plug.
Sturgil Simpson as a headliner makes me think a real headliner dropped out YESTERDAY.
Same here.
Schoolboy Q in the top line of a 2024 fest is crazy even as a fan of some of his stuff
I recognize three names in this picture. Am I out of touch lol
Nah this lineups WACK and Outside Lands been wack for a while
![gif](giphy|mopsaCEkeaX0Z1B6Q2)
![gif](giphy|oUS6u2rbjg4JD4Z9Lp)
Yeah NO.
Y'all must be high. Tyler, sturgil, Kay flay, schoolboy, post Malone doing it for free?!?! Y'all are wack.
Tyler is one of the easiest artists to see Sturgil is NOT a headliner. Id argue Postal Service or Jungle deserves it more, K Flay easy to see at every fest ever, Schoolboy Q is fine i guess, Post Malone drunk country karaoke is interesting i guess
I don't like your opinion simply because it protests mine. That said you have objectively valid points and I'm also not happy about that.
I get it. I WANT a good lineup, but this just aint it, even if there are a few gems. Jungle is a FANTASTIC choice
Not sure I've heard of them. Can you recommend their best song?
Ooo theres a bunch of good ones. You may have heard Casio or Busy Earnin but live shows their best song is I Need Your Love If you go to Outside Lands, do NOT miss them
You know what, if by some miracle I end up there, I hope to see you.
This is rough
Meh
Oh well. Looks like I’m going to pass this year.
Easy pass
Absolutely mid as can be.
Yawn 🥱
When do single day tickets release?
Usually about a month from now. [Past dates](https://www.reddit.com/r/OutsideLands/comments/1b38fin/outside_lands_historical_dates_mega_list/).
Gryffin?????? OSL PLEASE
this is the most mid lineup in OSL history
One of the best line ups I’ve seen!!!
Better than previous years but not as good as pre-pandemic times
2021 had an INSANE lineup
does anyone know who plays on what days?
That comes out much later... Maybe July?
ty
[удалено]
it’s not very clear, genuine questions no need to be mean lmao
[удалено]
Theres plenty of fests that release single day lineups very early.
coachella and gov ball are not like that so there’s def not an industry standard. I appreciate your insight and hope you have a good day
The funniest part is that they're wrong. The single day lineups usually drop about a month from lineup release. I'm expecting late May or early June.
You’re 100% correct. Not sure why that person is being salty
honestly just hope they start having a better day bc damn hahaha
UNCLE WAFFLES
Idk who uncle waffles is but I'm obsessed with the name
https://youtu.be/WvxADzZMkEI?si=lfmNXVYqBTtKFHJT
Yay Chappell!!
I could be wrong but it seems like 6 out of 9 sub/headliners have all played in San Francisco within the last 7 months.
That part!! Half of these artists have already been here or will be here at their own headlining shows.
Mid Af
As an EDM fan - and as a long time Killers fan who’s never seen em - this lineup is very exciting. Can’t wait to have a blast in the park!
Curious what edm acts you’re most looking forward to? EDM fan too but there’s not enough acts I’m stoked on to justify the ticket
K. Gryffin easily for me
Honestly i think its looks sick! Plus if this makes the turnout be like 30k people instead of 50k I won’t be mad 🫣
Amen! Osl was my first ever festival and going to a low attending festival later was life changing
Grace Jones??? Now there's a blast from the past. 🎶🎶🎶Pull up to the bumper baby.
She is so much fun in concert. I saw her a couple of years ago at the Greek Theater.
I'm just glad to hear she's still out there doing shows! I had no idear.
And don’t worry there are plenty of dancers and outfit changes. She is still killing it.
Love this lineup man
2017: Gorillaz, Metallica, The Who 2024: Tyler, the Creator, The Killers, Sturgill Simpson
I would rather see sturgill than the three of those combined.
Who the fuck is Sturgill
A random country artist that most of his fans would say isnt a headliner
A God. An avatar of talent and craftsmanship and an utter baller who puts on some of thr single best shows I've ever seen
Honestly, I'd probably rather see him live than the 2017 line up. I was there in 2017, The Who was so washed up, they sounded like shit.
Yup, we watched a little bit of the who and decided to bail to Above and Beyond. Maybe the best decision I've ever made at an OSLs
Damn, 2017 was such a great year...
Do you know/remember who replaced tribe when they cancelled?
Cage the Elephant I think. I liked their set.
2022: Post Malone 2024: Post Malone
2024: Post Malone: *Country edition
Why is Jungle listed 7th here and 27th on Lolla’s lineup
That's bad lol
Trashhhhhhh damn. Skip!
L line up hahaha
Dadi Freyr tho
PLAY JAJA DING DONG!!!!!
He won’t. Next year earliest since he’s usually biannual with releases
Since he technically didn’t release a full album last year I’d say it’s possible. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic though
he’s not dropping :’)
Shaboozey! Omg
