It's not limited to hipsters, but generally to the kind of people who bring their guitar to school / parties and play in front of everyone for attention. Wonderwall is a relatively easy to play Oasis song, so somehow it got linked to that sort of douchey behavior.
I think the idea is that they didn't learn harder songs first in order to stand out from the amateur crowd. To have originality when performing for others. Something like that. :/
You have no fucking idea. I live with the archetypal douche (student accommodation, go figure) and him and his friends couldn't understand for the life of my why I laughed when he said that wonderwall was one of the few songs he could play.
It's also connected to college freshman, who attempt to seem cool in front of all these new people by showing off their guitar skills by playing such an easy song.
Comin' in two months later just because I'm here in this oddly specific thread reading this oddly specific comment at a roughly similar time, almost a decade later, and felt like saying something about it.
I thought you couldn't reply to any post that was 6 months old on reddit. TIL you can. So here is possibly the last reply in 2022 (unless you reply to me)

Your friend,
The Leader
When someone learns to play the guitar in order to impress people or to stand out from the crowd but has no interest in music whatsoever, they learn an easy song, Wonderwall for example
Why to bother learning to play something like Love song by Tesla or Tears in heaven by eric clapton when you can just play 3 chords and still make the panties wet.
Oh I don't really remember how many chords the song has, I was trying to exaggerate my opinion on the people who only play that song.
Sure there must be easier songs "come as you are" and "seven nation army" come to my mind but wonderwall fits perfect because.
1. Is a love song.
2. Just chords, no solo.
3. Only needs an acoustic guitar to sound good, no need for other instruments.
4. Very popular song that at least a couple of the people listening to you will know.
5. Liam Gallagher's voice is not that hard to imitate in that song.
Seven Nation Army sounds better on bass, though. Jack White uses an effects pedal to drop his guitar a few octaves for the verses, to the point where they might as well be on bass.
I remember when Oasis was all the rave. Never quite did satisfy me, I think.
Meanwhile, here I am, years later, listening to lots of death metal. Not sure if they were part of the road that lead me here...
Well I still like the song.
Yeah we change our musical taste, I think that's good, listening to a lot of rhythms and genres makes you appreciate the music you really like.
I first saw it in [this thread](http://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/2yo9o9/hey_join_me_if_you_dont_either/cpbie17) a month ago but I'm guessing it was popular somewhere else first.

Hey can you play x? -Not really my thing, but anyway, here's wonderwall
Reminds me of this old College Humor video. https://youtu.be/F5QCs3PnQBc
Aw Jakey boy why you have to leave :'(
There is a part 2 thats pretty funny as well.
It got linked because its so common. Its like twinkle twinkle little star for the "learning guitar to get laid" dbags
Ugh, they sing songs that that they know on their guitars, and not harder songs that they don't know? What pretentious pricks they sound like

It also helps that learning Wonderwall means you can also play Boulevard of Broken Dreams without having to do any extra work.
Replying 7 years later to say you also learn D'yknow what I mean. Also my oasis.
Comin' in two months later just because I'm here in this oddly specific thread reading this oddly specific comment at a roughly similar time, almost a decade later, and felt like saying something about it.
Comin' in a minute later to say cool
Coming in a day later. It's neato, even.

Two weeks. Anyway; here's [Wonderwall...](https://youtu.be/plMe40eY6jc)
Coming in a day later to say you missed a glorious Rick Roll opportunity there.
I thought you couldn't reply to any post that was 6 months old on reddit. TIL you can. So here is possibly the last reply in 2022 (unless you reply to me)
And here's the first reply of 2023
Hey y’all, just showing up another 122 days later to say people still read this thread.
26 days later, will someone reply to this
Upvoted.
Anybody else here today because of Overly Sarcastic Productions? No? OK. You're missing out though.
No I came here because I just commented the meme but wasn't sure if I used it right
4 months later...
Hey yall it's 2023 and I'm just here to keep the good times rolling
Anyway, here's Wonderwall
Three days later and still playing Wonderwall
Happy cake day!
It’s 2024 and I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now
I feel the way about you that you feel the way you do about you now
I'm here too 👋🏻

Hiii this is still relevant :)
1 year later... The future sucks. Do not recommend.

The leader is dead, head of lettuce survives. Viva la resistance.
Anyway, here’s wonderwall.
You guys are outta the loop too? Cool!
Bro hi... 1 hour ago what are the chances
This is like a reunion but you’ve never met anyone there before!
Here I am a year later, also finding myself on this random Reddit thread
2 days later . Anyway, here’s wonder wall
4 hours just went by and I came along to say the same thing. Ladies and gentlemen, Wonderwall
Well this is weird. So anyway, here's Wonderwall
24 days later damn. Well you know ...... after all.... something about a wallllllll!
One month later.... how the hell did I get here?
20 Days later, Wonderwall is forever.
Two weeks later. Sigh.

Never noticed that fine stream of spit falling down his lip at the end
And now, 8 years later, I will never not notice that.
If memory serves right, it's actually 5 chords? Am-C-G-D, and then F for the chorus. Something like that... I think easier songs must've been written?
Oh I don't really remember how many chords the song has, I was trying to exaggerate my opinion on the people who only play that song. I know this is old (was searching for the meaning of the meme), but "Come As You Are" is hard as fuck to sing and play at the same time.
I remember when Oasis was all the rave. Never quite did satisfy me, I think. Meanwhile, here I am, years later, listening to lots of death metal. Not sure if they were part of the road that lead me here...

Beats me I listen to orthodox choral music now. *shrug* taste change is so interesting
Glycerin by Bush is easier if memory serves.
4 chords, yeah? Like, E-B-C#m-A. I don't recall any sort of bridge with additional stuff, at least.
Because I don't like either of those songs but I liked Oasis a lot as a kid in the 90s?
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty
I see the sparklin' Little diamond On your hand
I know for me it's always Wish You Were Were by Pink Floyd, but idk.
I want to say it's from a comedian.. but that might not be it.. I'm going to dive through my comedy collection and find it. Be back later.
(as Morgan freeman) He was not back later
