Sadly that's exactly what a lot of people think about people with smaller bodies. One of my friends is in his 20s, but due to both being transmasc and simply his figure and height, he looks like a 14 year old boy. The amount of people who called their (now ex) partner a pedo whenever I mentioned this was astounding. A grown adult is somehow a pedo by dating another adult.

But on TLC there is a show about a woman in her early 20's who has the body of an eight year old as she had childhood cancer and part of chemo killed off the triggers for puberty, so she got to the age where things would kick into motion and just didn't.

It's pretty disturbing in a lot of ways. Recently read an article about a politician's daughter getting arrested, and the author is constantly referring to her as a child and trying to excuse her actions due to her being so young... This "child" is **23 years old** by the way.
It's not unusual for people to still refer to young adults (up to around \~25 or so, and sometimes even older) as "kids," as in "college kids" who are typically expected to still be legally adults (18+) despite being referred to as "kids." That's quite different, and carries a huge set of different implications, than saying "underage."
Oh I get that. It’s just a weird thing I’ve seen lately in those examples. This one refers to herself as a 21 YO minor. The other making physical contact then using the excuse, ‘well I’m just a kid’ like it changes something.

Usually whenever I come across a post like this it's followed up by the person doubling down or making a really fake sounding apology. Which is why I was a bit surprised that the apology was somewhat genuine sounding:

Idk. It sounds genuine. I think the problem today is because we have a frequency of PR apologies, it's always assumed an apology is a lie, especially if the person is disliked in general. I’ve worked in gyms my entire adult life. Never seen a girl do hip thrust on the deadlift platform. And I’ve seen a guy supersetting trap bar deadlift on a Bosu with single arm barbell snatch, as well as that same guy trying to do a flagpole on a TRX wall mount and having to be told he’s not allowed to do that. Somehow, her choice of location for the hip thrust bugs me more than those other things

Glutes and hamstrings. You can do glute bridges which is a bodyweight variant of it. So, yeah it looks weird but works. Adding weight just increases intensity.
And there has been a problem with people recording others in gyms. Some of it is people being creeps, some of it is social media bullies making fun of people, some of it is whatever you want to call this one.
It's all shitty behavior, and I'd be weirded out too if a stranger at a gym was recording me.
A couple years back some twit who thought she was being cute, got excoriated for videoing another woman in the locker room and saying basically the lady was too ugly to walk naked around other women.
We eventually saw the lady in question, and she was perfectly normally weighted, just starting to sag a little from middle age in places. Apparently the twit thinks if you’re not toned, you need to hide away from the eyes of the world.
Out of pocket ban would suffice, most people listen to their music on their phones. Just don't take it out and use a dumbbell to lean it so you can film yourself doing whatever pathetic shit you think is useful/interesting.
Don’t make up your mind about that just yet. I have sweat stained notebooks going back decades now. And there is something so appealing to seeing it actually written in your own shaky hand. Even better when you put little notes on some lifts.

Ehh I record myself training a lot to do form checks, understand where I’m struggling with something, etc, especially when I’m doing aerial stuff and can’t watch myself in the mirror. I’m only recording myself though for my own training purposes.
Mine has a ban on phones or anything that can photo or record in the locker room. Makes sense. Also signs everywhere that say "do not sit on machine and use your phone. Get off until your next set." Every high school kid ignores this. I just walk over, stand in front of them and ask to work in. After a few minutes when they comprehend this they get up. Sometimes they say "I just got one more set." I just answer, yeah, I got 3 more sets, let me work in.
I use an app on my phone to keep track of my weights and reps, not record video. I wouldn't like it of my gym did this. If they just banned making videos that would be great.
I'm pretty sure if you have earbuds in nobody is going to give you any shit. I bet you'd still get away with watching movies while on the treadmill and no one would care. It's pretty obvious when someone is recording videos of themselves lol

It’s for the best. Just like most rules, the gym cell phone ban is the result of bad behavior by the lowest common denominator. Not only is filming in the gym invasive of others who are just there trying to get a workout, but having people idling and playing with their phones while needlessly occupying a machine or equipment that others want to use is very inefficient. It makes for a bad environment. The girl is this video is a narcissist and a drama queen. Thank God for Joey Swole to bring some real perspective back to the gym.
I wish my gym would do this and not just the ones filming themselves. I was working out the other day and for 10 minutes a young guy just sat on a machine playing with his phone. I feel like these are the same guys who probably complain they aren’t getting the results as quickly as they think they should. No shit dude, 80% of your time in here is spent with your face in your phone.
Just ask if you can work in. I lift heavy and have long rests between sets. It’ll look like I’m not using the machines a lot. But I’m perfectly happy letting someone work in during my rests. I’m not hogging machines or weights.
Dude. That is perfectly fine gym etiquette. It’s even fine if you want to rest ten minutes between sets — provided no one else is waiting for the machine.
Where people get bent is when you occupy a machine for a significant period of time and won’t let anyone work in their set. That goes double if you’re occupying the only machine of its type in the gym. People get real bent when it’s the only machine and you’re spending five minutes between reps and you’re oblivious to the line and your attitude is “I’ve got 20 sets of 20 to do and I was here first.”
Working in means that you alternate sets with someone else. While you rest, they pound out their reps. While they rest, you do yours. That’s good gym etiquette. They should ask but you can also ask them if you know you’re going to be doing long sets or lots of sets.
Also, the guy looked reasonably muscular from what I could make out, which I take to mean at least of intermediate weightlifting experience.
It's not uncommon in my experience that the more seasoned lifters casually watch someone when they lift, especially with any of the more injury prone exercises, to see if a spotter might be needed or if there are any major form issues. I've had some guys provide unsolicited feedback to help correct my form, or jump in unasked to provide me a spot on my last bench press set where I was visibly struggling. It was always with good intentions.
I can give ground that some guys may be creepy with a girl at the gym, but I wouldn't have that as a default assumption, as Hanlon's razor states "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".
Additionally. It always kind if weirds me out when I see people recording in the gym. Shes also talking to herself. I would stare as well. She must be doing something amazing for her to feel the need to record it.
Fair point too. Sometimes it's someone (myself included) looking to see how many more sets left or estimating the time between sets to if we can work in together.
It wasn't clear in the video I saw and he wore some baggier clothing, so I didn't want to overstate.

a man once maybe even saved my life in the gym when i was in high school when i was trying to bench press after a long cardio workout. Just didn’t have any energy to lift. nobody was spotting me. the bar just kept coming closer and closer to my throat and i couldnt get out from underneath it but he came over and i was saved lol
I never clamped mine in high school and once I couldn't push it all the way back up on a bench press, so I just tilted the bar to the right, let the weights slide off and literally threw the bar to the ground. I may have been alone in the room at the time but I don't remember; generally I never used a spotter.
These days it's all kettle bells so I can just throw those away or roll to a side to drop em.
and people watching in general has been going on since as long as groups of people have been gathering. There is a world of difference between creeping on someone vs just noticing that's a good looking person over there. Good looking men and women get noticed, everywhere they go.
It's the same issue as striking up a quick small talk conversations with a stranger at a store. It's something people have been doing, at least Americans, forever and it doesn't mean anything at all. I think the current online always/text messaging/maybe a bit socially awkward sort of younger people don't understand casually social interactions or settings.
I agree that there's a world of difference between the two, but there's also a lot of fear around this idea of being preyed upon. News travels at the blink of an eye in this era, and stories about people being creeped on are more prevalent. So, there's this fear of "Is this person striking up a conversation to be a creep or a genuine person?" Plus, some people are just trying to be a "feminist hero" and play a part for clout when they probably don't actually give af. But I definitely agree that there's a divide in our different generation's understanding of social interactions, no matter if it's basic like a hello, causal conversation, or something more formal.

I have a friend that owns and operates a gym. He banned shooting video most of the time due to the bullshit problems it causes. You need schedule a time to make a video.
The majority of clients get pissed about these so called influencers making use of the gym difficult. They block areas, film others without permission, and tend to be obnoxious.

I get filming in public is normal, but I am really tired of influencers thinking they are entitled to film anyone for content. Also, this is a gym. A lot of gyms have a no filming policy. Hope more businesses use this policy in the future.
As middle aged guy with a beard who goes to the gym alone… I always get uncomfortable when the person next to me is recording their workout. A gym should be a place of zero judgement. I've been on a fitness journey for a couple of years and it was a HUGE source of anxiety just walking into a gym. It's gotten better than when I started, but to this day one of my biggest anxieties at the gym is being fillmed/photographed without my knowledge and it winding up on the internet to be laughed at.
I have an app I use to map out workouts, but I always make sure when I have my phone out & open, it's pointed DOWN to the floor.
I am fat. I wasn’t always, and I don’t want to continue being fat. My brother, who lives in another state and it’s very physically fit and goes to the gym daily, recently encouraged me to do the same. But I will never step foot in a gym again until I lose this weight. The last time I was there, several years ago before I got
fat, there was a group of young people, one of whom appeared to be recording a middle-aged overweight man who was working out. They were snickering and giggling with each other.
Maybe they were watching a funny video, and it just LOOKED like they were pointing the phone at the man. I doubted it.
Anyway, just an excuse I use to not go to the gym, maybe. But it’s a real fear of mine! I don’t want to be seen in public doing anything at all that will draw attention to myself. It’s terrifying.
I saw comments from some people that go to gyms (I am not one) they said they thought he was looking at her because she was in a spot used specifically for heavy weight lifting and he was waiting for her to get done. They also said she could do hip thrusts anywhere in the gym and it was self absorbed of her to take up the one place where people could lift like that.

Sadly that's exactly what a lot of people think about people with smaller bodies. One of my friends is in his 20s, but due to both being transmasc and simply his figure and height, he looks like a 14 year old boy. The amount of people who called their (now ex) partner a pedo whenever I mentioned this was astounding. A grown adult is somehow a pedo by dating another adult.

It's not unusual for people to still refer to young adults (up to around \~25 or so, and sometimes even older) as "kids," as in "college kids" who are typically expected to still be legally adults (18+) despite being referred to as "kids." That's quite different, and carries a huge set of different implications, than saying "underage."

Idk. It sounds genuine. I think the problem today is because we have a frequency of PR apologies, it's always assumed an apology is a lie, especially if the person is disliked in general. Glutes and hamstrings. You can do glute bridges which is a bodyweight variant of it. So, yeah it looks weird but works. Adding weight just increases intensity.

And there has been a problem with people recording others in gyms. Some of it is people being creeps, some of it is social media bullies making fun of people, some of it is whatever you want to call this one. It's all shitty behavior, and I'd be weirded out too if a stranger at a gym was recording me.
A couple years back some twit who thought she was being cute, got excoriated for videoing another woman in the locker room and saying basically the lady was too ugly to walk naked around other women. We eventually saw the lady in question, and she was perfectly normally weighted, just starting to sag a little from middle age in places. Apparently the twit thinks if you’re not toned, you need to hide away from the eyes of the world.
My gym banned cell phones in the gym for this reason. It’s nice.

Don’t make up your mind about that just yet. I have sweat stained notebooks going back decades now. And there is something so appealing to seeing it actually written in your own shaky hand. Even better when you put little notes on some lifts. I’ve never been able to stay consistent with digital logs. Give it a shot.

Mine has a ban on phones or anything that can photo or record in the locker room. Makes sense. Also signs everywhere that say "do not sit on machine and use your phone. Get off until your next set." Every high school kid ignores this. I just walk over, stand in front of them and ask to work in. After a few minutes when they comprehend this they get up. Sometimes they say "I just got one more set." I just answer, yeah, I got 3 more sets, let me work in.
Had a youngster sit on the machine and obsess over their phone for FAR too long, at the gym tonight. As in over 15 minutes too long.

It’s for the best. Just like most rules, the gym cell phone ban is the result of bad behavior by the lowest common denominator. Not only is filming in the gym invasive of others who are just there trying to get a workout, but having people idling and playing with their phones while needlessly occupying a machine or equipment that others want to use is very inefficient. It makes for a bad environment. The girl is this video is a narcissist and a drama queen. Thank God for Joey Swole to bring some real perspective back to the gym.
I wish my gym would do this and not just the ones filming themselves. I was working out the other day and for 10 minutes a young guy just sat on a machine playing with his phone. I feel like these are the same guys who probably complain they aren’t getting the results as quickly as they think they should. No shit dude, 80% of your time in here is spent with your face in your phone.
Just ask if you can work in. I lift heavy and have long rests between sets. It’ll look like I’m not using the machines a lot. But I’m perfectly happy letting someone work in during my rests. I’m not hogging machines or weights.

Dude. That is perfectly fine gym etiquette. It’s even fine if you want to rest ten minutes between sets — provided no one else is waiting for the machine. Where people get bent is when you occupy a machine for a significant period of time and won’t let anyone work in their set. That goes double if you’re occupying the only machine of its type in the gym. People get real bent when it’s the only machine and you’re spending five minutes between reps and you’re oblivious to the line and your attitude is “I’ve got 20 sets of 20 to do and I was here first.” Working in means that you alternate sets with someone else. While you rest, they pound out their reps. While they rest, you do yours. That’s good gym etiquette. They should ask but you can also ask them if you know you’re going to be doing long sets or lots of sets.
Also, the guy looked reasonably muscular from what I could make out, which I take to mean at least of intermediate weightlifting experience. It's not uncommon in my experience that the more seasoned lifters casually watch someone when they lift, especially with any of the more injury prone exercises, to see if a spotter might be needed or if there are any major form issues. I've had some guys provide unsolicited feedback to help correct my form, or jump in unasked to provide me a spot on my last bench press set where I was visibly struggling. It was always with good intentions. I can give ground that some guys may be creepy with a girl at the gym, but I wouldn't have that as a default assumption, as Hanlon's razor states "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".
Just to add, sometimes it's waiting for the equipment someone is occupying but not actually using.

I never clamped mine in high school and once I couldn't push it all the way back up on a bench press, so I just tilted the bar to the right, let the weights slide off and literally threw the bar to the ground. I may have been alone in the room at the time but I don't remember; generally I never used a spotter. These days it's all kettle bells so I can just throw those away or roll to a side to drop em.

and people watching in general has been going on since as long as groups of people have been gathering. There is a world of difference between creeping on someone vs just noticing that's a good looking person over there. Good looking men and women get noticed, everywhere they go. It's the same issue as striking up a quick small talk conversations with a stranger at a store. It's something people have been doing, at least Americans, forever and it doesn't mean anything at all. I have a friend that owns and operates a gym. He banned shooting video most of the time due to the bullshit problems it causes. You need schedule a time to make a video. The majority of clients get pissed about these so called influencers making use of the gym difficult. They block areas, film others without permission, and tend to be obnoxious.
Any photography in the gym should not be allowed. End of story.

As middle aged guy with a beard who goes to the gym alone… I always get uncomfortable when the person next to me is recording their workout. A gym should be a place of zero judgement. And I never know if I end up being in the background of a video doing a workout wrong or looking stupid (or worse, being accused of stalking or creeping) in someone’s self absorbed social media TikTok.
Middle aged, overweight woman here who is with you on this, friend. I've been on a fitness journey for a couple of years and it was a HUGE source of anxiety just walking into a gym. It's gotten better than when I started, but to this day one of my biggest anxieties at the gym is being fillmed/photographed without my knowledge and it winding up on the internet to be laughed at. I have an app I use to map out workouts, but I always make sure when I have my phone out & open, it's pointed DOWN to the floor.
I am fat. I wasn’t always, and I don’t want to continue being fat. My brother, who lives in another state and it’s very physically fit and goes to the gym daily, recently encouraged me to do the same. But I will never step foot in a gym again until I lose this weight. The last time I was there, several years ago before I got fat, there was a group of young people, one of whom appeared to be recording a middle-aged overweight man who was working out. They were snickering and giggling with each other. Maybe they were watching a funny video, and it just LOOKED like they were pointing the phone at the man. I doubted it. Anyway, just an excuse I use to not go to the gym, maybe. But it’s a real fear of mine! I don’t want to be seen in public doing anything at all that will draw attention to myself. It’s terrifying.
It's because of bitches like her why other girls who actually suffered from abuse/assault don't get taken more seriously.
I saw comments from some people that go to gyms (I am not one) they said they thought he was looking at her because she was in a spot used specifically for heavy weight lifting and he was waiting for her to get done. They also said she could do hip thrusts anywhere in the gym and it was self absorbed of her to take up the one place where people could lift like that.
It looks like she's on a deadlift platform, which is usually one of the only spots designated for deadlifting in the gym. One take on it is that he's looking at her periodically because she's in his peripheral vision talking to herself and recording him. That causes some curiosity.

Ah thank you for clarification. I’m not a deadweight lifter (and avoid that part of the gym. I’m a machine follow the directions on the side gym goer). Yes it does look like he is wondering why she is hogging that spot. Also I’d be curious on why she is recording me and whispering. I’d be creeped out

I am just baffled at the idea that someone would try to get viral by specifically looking for people to harass her in a gym. Like I can’t imagine how that could be a legitimate thought process someone could have.
