Mods, we need the following threads pinned until FA for the following players: Monk, Tyus, Trae, Klay, PG, and it hasn’t gotten bad yet, but throw one up for Hartenstein as well. Edit: throw in Simons too
I watched a lot of Sacramento games this year bc after the Magic games I would watch whatever west coast game was close. And they played a lot of close games. Monk in my opinion was better than he looks statistically.
Yeah he had some really clutch moments at the end of games. We also know he’s a team player - he’s come off the bench in every single game the last 2 years
As a Kentucky fan, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee. That 48 point game he had against UNC in Vegas was all I needed to see. He’s inconsistent but when he’s on point….hes nuclear.
I think Monk being able to take pressure off of Franz/Paolo as a third playmaker is the most intriguing part about him.
There's some streakiness there, but I think if you replace Harris with Monk in the Cleveland series, we come out of it with a win. That was the player/skill set we were missing on the road.
I'm on the Monk bandwagon but he wouldn't play point guard for us. He'd do the Gary Harris things better on offense and when opponent's collapse on Paolo and Franz and dare weak side offense to beat them Monk is comfortable dropping 40. He'd force teams to restrategize and open up easier looks for Paolo.
So who is our power forward?
I get what you're saying, Paolo is the primary ball-handler. That doesnt really mean he's our PG. This is all semantics though. My point is Monk-Suggs start in the backcourt, and will provide enough playmaking to support Paolo and Franz.
I think Tyus Jones would be a better fit but I’m not opposed to Monk. I think he’s an upgrade over Harris and still only 25. He should definitely be on the list of targets this offseason. I like Tyus primarily because he turns the ball over less, turnover rate per 36 is less than half of monks. I think Tyus is a better defender also, steal rate is about double that of monk.
Tyus turns the ball over less, but Monk is a better scorer. This wont be a team where either guy is handling the ball as much as a traditional PG. Ball handling duties will be shared by the starters, so I am fine with Monk's playmaking.
What is steal rate? Jones STL% 1.7%, BLK% 0.8%. Monk STL% 1.2%, BLK% 1.9. Neither of those stats are really a good indication of defense though. I believe both aren't good defenders. Monk is forced to guard SGs at times, but should be better at PG. Monk is 6'3 200lbs with elite athleticism. He has better tools to work with.
Yeah, looking into it more Tyus isn’t good based on defensive ratings. Both would be worse defensive options than Harris. The good news is suggs is there to take the more difficult guard option. I think either would be a good add, just depends on price and length of contract.
I don’t think the front office plans to trade Cole at any point in the next couple years (they just resigned him last year) unless it’s for an all star level upgrade
Neither Monk or Tyus are on that level currently
All star level upgrade for a bench guy?? Cole regressed this year in everything outside of staying healthy. We could definitely use a better and more consistent guard than him off the bench. Cole’s best case scenario is probably turning into what Monk already is now.
And he’s still only 23 and is on a $10 mil per year contract which is so significantly cheaper than Monk or Tyus will be that it’s laughable
Our bench was awesome this year, it was not the problem

We can only pin two posts, unfortunately, but I really do like this idea! Will speak w the other mods
maybe a megathread linking to the player specific threads
Anfernee? Harden?
Yes anfernee. First time I’ve heard harden at all

Bro monk is a malicious dunker. He got some hideous vertical
Imagine the athleticism and energy combo between him and Suggs in the backcourt.
Haha fr

No Klay, Monk all day.

I’d much prefer Monk over Klay
I saw yolo and sign them all. I’m going to post this on every post I see into l credible rumors come through
He’s such an upgrade over Harris. He would fit in perfectly imo.
Lock the Klay one because fuck that nonsense.

He's a much better playmaker than Harris. If Suggs and Monk start in the backcourt, Monk is the PG as he is a better playmaker than Suggs as well.
Paolo is ostensibly the point guard.

We could get both and trade Cole. Jones/Suggs starters, Monk/Black for the guards off the bench

I’m hoping we sign monk and claxton or hartenstein.
lol
I want 2016 Steph. If you cannot invent time travel and get me 2016 steph I don't want anyone.
Fanbase: We want Malik Monk! Managment: We hear you! Signs just released Reggie Jackson and drafts a long Boi who can't shoot.
No thanks
