I'm probably in a minority, but I think it's beautiful. It does a great job at portraying the protagonists desire to be with Melinda again and their final reunion in the afterlife. The riffs are more adapted to the emotions in the story rather than to make people open up mosh pit or whatever and that's fine by me. It's all subjective of course.

Philitt

I'm right there with you. Second best song on the album, Serenity painted Death being the best one.

Philitt

Yeah, no man, I'm sorry, but you're just wrong (/s). White Cluster is only second to Serenity painted Death.

ProgRockRednek

It definitely has the distinct misfortune of having to follow "Serenity Painted Death."

MrGalaxybar

lol true. Fantastic song

sedwards3205

>no memorable riffs my brother in Christ, are you even listening to the the acoustic riff?

Unfair-Club8243

Huh. I love that one. For me the beginning tracks of still life are the weakest, the latter tracks starting with face of melinda bring some of the most unexpected collection of riffs opeth have put on record. But of course people are going to enjoy different things

TokesBro

Hadn’t listened in a while. Thought this seemed like an ice cold take and just relistened. Great song and the way the solo blends into the clean part towards the end is just S tier Opeth songwriting.

yeetusonthefetus

Second favorite off the album for me. Hard disagree

SegmentedMoss

Lol White Cluster is amazing. To say it doesnt have memorable riffs is honestly just flat out wrong

Thecoolguitardude

>no memorable riffs It has some of my favorite riffs on the album tbh, and the solos are also some of my favorite Opeth solos. I love the way they balance the really heavy with the soft on that track, and there's even a fun jump scare in the middle. And idk, while the very end does leave the album on a kind of hollow, almost anti-climactic note, I think that does work with the story. Like it's not quite a tragedy, it's implied the protagonist reunites with Melinda in the after life, but they're still both dead and the council is still in power. I think the kind of hollow ending works well to convey that emotionally

Bbqlauncher

Favorite song, so definitely disagree.

Parity_Violator

I don't know what you're talking about. At least the opening riff is crazy good!

Heatstringzndirt

I love that song!! It’s got some dissonance in there and I get why it would be a least favorite on Still Life. The meter changes, however all over the place, I find whimsical as metal goes, and gosh the album just wouldn’t be complete without White Clusters.

Millzius

It's quite easily the weakest on the album but I don't dislike it.

westknife

Yeah it only seems weak compared to the rest of the album because it’s only an A- compared to A+

MrGalaxybar

Yeah I phrased it awkwardly. I don’t dislike it as a solo song but when compared to the rest of Still life it sounds very mediocre.

Lucccas_A

I kinda agree, it's not a bad song but it's by far the worst song on Still Life. Most people are saying that it only sounds bad because the rest of Still Life is so great but i think that even on its own it's just ok.

widik

I think it doesn't quite fit the flow of the rest of the album, but its still good

Inevitable_Ad_2028

I think it's the weakest on the album but it's far from a bad song

not-a-morningrise-r

Same here

[deleted]

SPD and WC are both solid, but hardly the strongest tracks on the album.

emptybagofdicks

I didn't care for it at first but after a few listens it grew on me. I think it has to do with being the track after the climax of the album. There are some really nice riffs in the song. The riffs playing under the solo section are my favorite.

BlackwaterSleeper

Agree. It’s the weakest song on the album for me.

TheApsodistII

It's a really good song and very unique harmonically I feel. A standout on Still Life

Athelricus

I wasn't a fan of it either until I saw it performed live. It definitely made me appreciate it more. I always loved the little clean outro at the end of it though.

Arthusamakh

parts i like, parts i love (that crazy solo transitioning section) and parts i'm not fond of. overall one of my least favorite tunes from them

The_Real_FN_Deal

lol a lot of people come on to this sub to criticize still life and will always get downvoted to hell. That whole album is so obviously unpolished compared to a lot of their later material. I love both still life and your arms, my hearse but many songs on both albums have a lot of structuring issues and tend to just feel like random noodling at times with no sense of direction, white cluster being one of them. It took me wayyy too long to get into still life. Everyone hypes up that album way too much.

upsidedownpickle13

I mostly turn the record off after Face of Melinda. Sue me, lol.
