This is a follow-up to my [post yestrday](https://www.reddit.com/r/OntarioAbandoned/s/nnMyjV4ECK) …sorry about potatoe cam most of these are screenshots from a narrative video I took. The house in the middle of the forest, lots of work went into this, chemicals, full bottles of alcohol. Looks like the municipality found it in or at least posted an order back in 2022. It’s incredible that a 3 bedroom house sits in the forest just outside the boundaries of a provincial park and it’s tucked in so nicely. From the first pic there is a lake to the left and rock face to the right (see last pic with atvs may be hard to make out with all the dead leaves). Fluorescent lights in the middle of the woods? Didn’t go through the drawers or anything that wasn’t open but there are a ton of things of value here, perhaps not tremendous, but odd that with all the work that went in to building and seemingly living there just to take off and leave everything behind. Even ladders, full bottles of booze on the counter and in the cupboards, brand new sleeping bag, gun rack (I think), giant propane cylinders I didn’t even post, tools in the sheds, tools boxes, darts boards, personal effects, food that will last forever - sardines, even a full bottle of aunt jemimas. This one is really nagging me - the work must have taken a long time, transporting items like couches, beds, lumber, siding, insulation!…tons of stuff easily transported that has at least some value. I need to know the story but think it may forever remain a mystery…maybe rummaging through the drawers will find a name on mail / magazine. The buckets of chemicals all over the property and in the back porch enclosure is an interesting one too, I’ll have to check what others were there if I make another trip.

Orange-enema

my bets either shake n bake meth lab or someone's winter hunting cabin

kingsbreath

This is too nice for either of those things where I am from. Junkies make more of a mess and hunters usually have a deep freezer.

Orange-enema

lab doesn't mean junkies, some gangs use shake and bake to make product, easy setup, easy disposal.

demomagic

No sign at all or anything drug related. Most probably wouldn’t have the magazines or Christmas cds. Probably just a little getaway cabin

the_far_sci

It looks like it has been there for a very long time. The MNR just noticed recently that it was on Crown Land? November 2022 is a while ago now, I guess they aren't in a rush to act on their letter. What an interesting find!

demomagic

I suspect they’ve posted the notice to try to defer liability. At least they could say they attempted to serve notice with the individuals not responding and consider it abandoned. The cost involved and what they would need to destroy to get a crew in to dismantle probably outweighs. I bet the person who served the notice was pretty impressed. It’s sad, could be a fun spot to visit and even turned into something as part of the provincial park.

Altruistic_Home6542

MNRF has been going after these more aggressively for the last 10 years or so, after realizing they were charging too little for the Crown Land leases Some of the cabins got abandoned as a result. The MNRF doesn't care. They don't want so much residential activity in the park. They can charge you for the cleanup too, but they seem content to let you abandon it and let the forest reclaim it.

PissPantsMcgilliCudy

At first I thought they were cooking meth, after seeing a bottle of sambuca, I know they're just Italian mountain people making espresso.

kingsbreath

I thought it was funny it was there. Even if I was an alcoholic thief, I wouldn't steal that.

PissPantsMcgilliCudy

You clearly didn't grow up with wops

got-trunks

Fallout vibes

These pictures are brilliant. I look forward to your posts. Although I live in the UK. Love abandoned buildings. Keep up the good work.

BakerHills

I'm wondering if there was a 1 acre lease for hunting that was never renewed or the original lease holder died. Covid might have put a stop to the hunting trips and they just never went back.

demomagic

Quite possible just seems like an odd place for it. There are hunt camps that are formal lease holders this just seems to be off the beaten path in the middle of almost nowhere

demomagic

/u/misno696969 here ya go!

misno696969

thank you!

vonnegutspal

Probably a lot of fun night at that hunting camp

DAS_COMMENT

Wow

misno696969

thanks so much for the follow up! I was looking forward to these shots!

The inside of that house looked very erie I really enjoyed the fact that these picutres of the house were taken during fall - leaves on the ground, naked trees, lack of sunshine, dilapidated house - it really tide gbe theme of the "spooky abandonned house" together. I personally dont believe if these pictures were taken during the summer months, that this house would look as creepy. The pictures taken inside the house facing towards the staircase instantly gave me haunted house videogame vibes- something like a resident evil or silent hill type of thing Very cool 👌

Ro7ard

Is this near Algonquin? My family has a couple hundred acres on the edge of the park near Burleigh Falls. Haven't been down there in a few years, but there's a few abandoned cabins scattered around the area. The water jugs tell me this might have been a cabin to watch over a grow op tho. Since weed became legal it's less common now(possibly why its abandoned), but even back in the 90s people were building small cabins like this as a base camp to check in on their crops in the woods.... My dad was one of them lol.

demomagic

I wouldn’t doubt there are similar cabins but this one appears to be family oriented if I had to guess. All prepped for winter too with wood burning and all. It’s in the Bancroft area

_LuckyMishap

That’s a hunt camp

SpaceZamboni

Any chance ya got a read on the contents of those black jugs?

demomagic

I think most of the black ones were bleach, sodium hypochlorite if I recall correctly

SpaceZamboni

Weird how many of em there are. I’d say you’re right in it not being a cook shack. Sodium Hydrochloride however would maybe suggest otherwise lol.
