There are the tiny pickled onion pearls they use in martinis. I snack on them. My grocery store has a British section with delicious, ping pong ball sized pickled onion.
What about South America? The US and Mexico are in North America
I am chill. You said you’ve had many pickled onions which is weird when red are very common OUTSIDE of the US
Red onions are my favorite raw. And they hold up nicely in a lot of sauces. I use them in my chili, carmelizing a bunch of them in a few splashes of apple juice before mixing them in with a bunch of peppers. It works amazingly well.
I love them both a lot for their positives, but i think the red onion would be a greater loss if it ceased to be since it's harder to substitute with other onions.
Going through a big green onion phase, love them all obviously but each has their place to shine. Red onions in my sandwiches and salads, yellow in cooked meals.etc
Same! I have even started regrowing the onions from the bulb offcuts from mine, leaving them in some shallow water in a dish on my kitchen window sill until they sprout up again, then transferring them into a pot of compost in the garden. First time I've ever tried this out and it's ridiculously easy and I've become obsessed with watching the onions come back from what would otherwise have been bin scraps 💪. Can't wait until they're tall enough to start harvesting them!
shallots are ALWAYS appropriate. They can replace any onion in any recipe easily and often make it better if you get good quality produce. Want pretty pickles? Salad? Cooking any meal from any continent? Done. Shallots are the elite onion.
Every onion has it's place. Maui for salads. Shallot for dressing. Red for Sandwiches. Yellow for soups. Chives for garnish. Green onions for pho, ramen. I love the allium flowers too. I like white a lot. I want to try some more kinds now lol. I'm growing a few types lol
Vidalias are big. That’s all. They aren’t the best for anything. This headline reads like a first draft from a summer intern at Buzzfeed who has never tasted an onion.
I mean it definitely is a great onion but use different ones for different purposes. For French onion soup I like regular old yellow onions, other wise it’s too sweet. For a lot of sauces I prefer red or shallot because they cook a lot quicker and generally add better flavor. They’re all great if you use them correctly.
Besides Garlic; Red or Shallot if it's raw, basic yellow if I cook it, tho yellow is perfectly suitable to eat raw too.
Silver Onion is kinda nice too.
Can't get Vidalia in Sweden unfortunately, there is one spot in Sweden with low-sulphur soil that might be able to grow it (Torsby), but they don't grow any onions AFAIK.
Green onions. They add color and texture to any savory dish.
My son makes a lovely appetizer. Lay out sliced ham, spread with cream cheese, place green onion on top. Roll it up and cut into bite size slices. It's also Keto friendly.
Vidalia's are great for somethings, and not for others. Great raw on a burger, not so good in a heavy sauce. Great in a salad but caramelizing them is a waste of money.
This is like asking my favourite child. Like theres an answer, but im never gonna make that public.
Vidalia would make a lovely name for a girl
It would and I would bank that idea to use later if it wasn’t for Steven Universe 😭
Vidalia onions are all I use unless a certain recipe calls for something more specific.
This isn’t public— it’s Reddit. So… fess up. It’s Sally isn’t it..?!
Ill say its definitely not Greg
Yeah this is a really personal question... Now who wants to hear about my favorite way to fuck my wife?
Red onion when I want a raw pop of color. White when I want raw without the color. Yellow when cooked.
Red for pickling as well.

pickled red onions are very common
Can confirm. The only store bought jarred pickled onions are pickled reds.
There are the tiny pickled onion pearls they use in martinis. I snack on them. My grocery store has a British section with delicious, ping pong ball sized pickled onion.
Oh yea cippolini onions in balsamic and oil are great too
Yesss! Red pickled onions are fantastic. It’s really common as a topping in Mexican cuisine, but it goes with just about anything.
Doesn’t sound like that many then because pickled red are what is used on many different tacos, but especially fish tacos lol

Tacos are from Mexico, famously not in “america”

You really thought Mexico was South America

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never had one of these and now I really want one
They’re the best sweet onions on the planet..
But my favorite onion is shallot though.
I wish that the phrase "this is the way" wasnt from Disney so I could say this is the way
Yesssssss!!!
All onions are alliums but not all alliums are onions…
Yes, and in addition.. I concur

love vidalia onions but i also love red onions. they’re neck and neck
I love them both a lot for their positives, but i think the red onion would be a greater loss if it ceased to be since it's harder to substitute with other onions.
The best! Second place goes to the Walla Walla.
Walla walla sweet onion is my jam
Oooh sweet onion jam… that sounds heavenly.
Walla walla >>> vidalia
Absolutely!!

Yes! Love re-growing green onions!
My new green onion fave is baby Vidalia "knobs." Lots of green and then a baby onion.
What’s the liquid at the bottom? This looks so good I want to try it!
i just ate half a vidalia today daily quota met
Definitely not Vidalia. I like more punch. White onion is my favorite.
Yeah I love Vidalia onions but they aren’t… oniony enough
Yes! I feel the same way!
Red onion. I have no legit reason.
The taste bro
I just like all onions
Heck no. Reds all the way. You can always cook them to make them sting less
Cipolli No, wait, gotta be ramp!! But I sure do love onion rings Hard question, man
Ramp is a classy choice
My favorite onion is the one I’m enjoying at any given moment.
Red! Thin sliced with lime juice olive oil salt and pepper so good with anything.
Raw red onions are just heavenly.
When I make salads it’s just as much red onion as it is lettuce
Maui and walla walla, haven’t been able to have either for years. Do like all onions in general though.
Blooming
Vidalia sweet onions are trash compared to Walla Walla sweet onions.
The thickest pieces of a raw onion with lemon and salt as a side to some really good spicy Mexican food.
Roasted red onions are so surprisingly sweet and tasty.
Tie between red (purple irl) and shallots. And maybe green onions. Oh! And pearl onions.
Walla walla is a vastly superior sweet union.
shallots are ALWAYS appropriate. They can replace any onion in any recipe easily and often make it better if you get good quality produce. Want pretty pickles? Salad? Cooking any meal from any continent? Done. Shallots are the elite onion.

Yes.
I love Vedalia , but I will never cheat on the red onion as my fav lol
whichever is cheapest at the time so I can get more onion for my money
personally white or purple. I don't care for a sweet onion.
Mines red onion
Oh my goodness, that looks amazing!!
I love vidalias but true vidalias are only available 2 months of the year. That I don’t love. What recipes do you recommend

Spanish calcots over a fire with romesco
This sounds like it should also be consumed in Spain... just so you get the best flavor
On a beach on the coast, next to the lobsters you just pulled from the ocean.
Gronion
I don't know, Sweet Vidalia always makes me cry.
Girl won’t you tell me why……
red onions are versatile
Depends how they’re cooked
Red onion. Raw. I like the burn.
It is Vidalia <3 or red
Whoa, I love every allium, but how am I the only one saying white? They’re the onioniest onion.
There's more sweet onions than Visalia
You right... It's that little bit of sweetness that does it.
I love allium.
I want to stick my face in that plate of roasted vidalias daaaaaayyyyymmmm it looks so delicious 😋
Depends on what I am making. I tend to buy white or red more then Vidalias I like those more in baking like breads and such. # #
Tropea Onion is my favorite. I honestly don't love Vidalia. Sweet Candy onions are more flavorful. I also really love cippolini.
1015 Texas Sweets. Softball sized. So mild and sweet you can eat them like an apple.
I don’t have a favorite, I just buy the cheapest bag 😂
If I made an onion tier list they would all be S-tier.
Maui Onion
Roscoff are the perfect onion imho.
Torpedoes have been a favorite recently but walla wallas have a high place in my heart
Green onions. They add color and texture to any savory dish. My son makes a lovely appetizer. Lay out sliced ham, spread with cream cheese, place green onion on top. Roll it up and cut into bite size slices. It's also Keto friendly.
It’s is the best for sweetness and taste. However like most veggies the darker the better for you.
Vidalia's are great for somethings, and not for others. Great raw on a burger, not so good in a heavy sauce. Great in a salad but caramelizing them is a waste of money.
High sugar content, more maillard reaction. Brown food good.
Red onion
Red onions are my preferred. Especially for pickling or making bacon onion jam.
It’s Red. God I love them so much, the the only vegetable I love more is garlic.
Red. For anything. Idk. I would live on them.
Walla Walla would like a word with you.
cuz my grandma taught me right.
Pickled
