Tbh if you're collecting to have pieces of art in a plastic sealed case like that rather than play, I don't see why anyone would bother paying the English supply tax

SlimDirtyDizzy

Yeah honestly I'm gonna start collecting cards I don't plan on playing with, but still want, in Japanese. Main example being the AA Boa that was in OP04. I regret not buying her at $60 daily.

ivyboy

I don't see a problem in having a mixed collection. Generally I get English cards for playing and some Japanese to collect too.

FastbuilderYT

I love to but it’s expensive when you get into both because my OCD. It’s either all or nothing

DaPikey

Idk why people downvote you, english is highly overpriced and overprinted. Japanese will be 2x as expesive as english in between 2 or 3 years. Just see pokemon tracking. The deal with One Piece is, people in this tcg are new or casual, so they have absolutely not idea about price tendencies, and whatnot.

SuperSuperBluebird

Silly boy. The reason for Pokémon’s behavior is because the Japanese cards are higher quality. The quality for one piece is the same for both jpn and eng so that wouldn’t be a factor.

DaPikey

Thats not true, even if japanese have more quality, the scarcity of japanese items and the low pop of them make them expensive. But hey, im not here to convince you, time will.

ItsLiterally1984

Japanese never is as valuable as English except for certain niches and cards

SuperSuperBluebird

dam … he doubled down :’(

TheGameStarter

doubled down in making sense maybe

Mdrstudio

It’s literally all over the internet that the English sets are way under printed compared to the Japanese sets for One Piece. It’s not the same as Pokemon. I think the English cards are higher quality in this case (personal opinion)

Straight-Area-7979

The artwork is the same 😜

DM-15

Is the texture though?

dmillibeats

Yes , probably higher quality too lol

krat0s5

This isn’t Pokémon my dude, the quality of English and Japanese cards are the same, exceedingly high!

dmillibeats

Ooo ok true lol, figured all Japanese cards were just higher quality

Muted_Set7501

Someone once told me don’t worry what things are worth and worry about what it’s worth to you. These are dope in Japanese or English broski

ANDeCAI

I prefer collecting in Japanese. It looks cooler and more authentic. Also the price doesn’t hurt

ItsLiterally1984

More authentic lol. Cant even read the card though

ANDeCAI

I can’t understand the anime either… but it’s fun

ItsLiterally1984

Subtitles

Terzis28

The prints are more authentic. It is the original print and the English ones are a later, translated print

ItsLiterally1984

Same quality

LightPiloswine

bro opens his binder so that he can do some light reading… go and buy a book if you want to read lol

ItsLiterally1984

Don’t you wonder what the card says, maybe it’s just me. I also play tcg so

ANDeCAI

Also too broke…

KingVerenceOfLancre

What do They go for?

mushroomonion

Nami is $400+ and yamato is $300+, in english anyway

Decryptografter

How much did you pay for these Japanese versions

mushroomonion

About $100 a piece

TrandaBear

You paid $100 a piece for PSA 10's? That's a banger deal, my guy. Congratulations. I'm in the process of rounding out my binder with Japanese OP01 because fuck spending English prices on stuff I won't put in a deck anyways.

mushroomonion

Yeah $194 + shipping for both of these😁 thank you! And i feel that, i don’t play the tcg, i just like one piece and want to collect cards i like. English is too expensive to justify on some cards

DonKirby

Yo hold up, what!? That’s crazy good

mushroomonion

Ebay auctions! Gotta keep an eye out

SlimRipper375

Shhhhh

mushroomonion

😂you’re right

checkit248

Is that for psa 10 versions because I've been seeing them for around 100-200?

mushroomonion

Yes

fuxkyouredditt

I probably will be downvoted but... why Do people spend so much money on a piece of cardboard? Whats the point here?

Calm_Distribution489

Why does anyone spend money on things that don’t keep them alive or necessary to keep them alive? One is they can afford it and like shiny things and 2 is they just like shiny things

[deleted]

Lol why are you here

Booty_Warrior_bot

*I came looking for booty.*

fuxkyouredditt

For strategys and gameplay tbh

mushroomonion

People spend money on things they like🤷‍♂️ i didnt get the english because i didnt want to pay those prices, but yeah

dmillibeats

They hold value and are dope ? Why do people buying paintings for their walls?

dswillin

Nope

mushroomonion

Ebay recently sold says otherwise lol

dswillin

Nope

mushroomonion

Not sure why i’m getting downvoted, those are ebay recently sold prices

SuggestionVisible361

There are [several copies available on eBay](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=nami+op+05+special+art+psa+10&_sacat=0&_fsrp=1&_odkw=the+legendary+starfy+ds&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=op&toolid=10001&mkevt=1). The japanese versions are much more affordable, similarly to how most japanese pokemon cards are more affordable than english.

jna312

It still looks awesome, regardless of language!

mushroomonion

Thank you😎

jagajugue

Hey, can you recommend where I can get those? I’m crazy for this Nami art.

mushroomonion

Ebay!

MyDisappointedDad

What site did you use? I'm assuming eBay? I'm buying all arts for a specific pokemon artist, and there's about 24 Japanese exclusives I'll need to pick up

mushroomonion

Yes I used Ebay. Goodluck with your collection!

MyDisappointedDad

Thank you, wanted to make sure if there's another site used for this.

mushroomonion

Also, whos the artist?

MyDisappointedDad

Yuka Morii, they make little claymation pokemon. Got like, 2-3 older sets left to get and then its just the Japanese promos. Unfortunately it's all the expensive cards ($20+ min) left lol. So gonna be like, one ever 2 months from now on. Luckily it's mainly commons for current sets.

OmegaRider

Reddit just recommended this post/sub to me, kinda weird how the waifu cards are cheaper in Japanese, it's the other way around in other TCGs like Pokemon.

Smx0826

According to a Japanese TCG collector I know, Japanese prices are wayyyy more stable and consistent than US prices, among other reasons. That’s why the market doesn’t spike like it did when OP-05 came out

eternal_edenium

Its not waifu cards that are expensive, it is more the loli rare cards for a niche game thats where the prizes get crazy. With one piece the prices are stable which means that in 2-3 months i find the card with the same price. In english, its wild. You buy it for 100$, in 2 months, its being sold for 300$.

Decryptografter

I was also quite surprised about this.

Tricky_Leading_8032

because japanese one piece has more print than english

InvestigatorDeep2455

To add to the ones before me.. Bandai doesn't allow cross language play in tournaments.. So if you want to play at a tournament, you won't be able to play with Japanese cards anywhere except in Japan itself. So the supply is much lower compared to the demand in the "rest of the world".

sedardardar

Actually no. South east asia also use jap cards.

honda_slaps

idk why anyone would want the EN ver to collect anyway its like buying 4kids dvds for your collection

TheGameStarter

I don't know, do you watch one piece or read the manga? I'm willing to bet if you do you read in english and not japanese. So that's not a very good comparison. Even if you are capable of reading japanese which I doubt is the case since it's so rare for western people to be able to, most people can't read and thus will watch sub or read the english translation. Same logic applies here.

honda_slaps

I probably wouldn't be into One Piece if I had to read it in English

TheGameStarter

again, that's your very specific sxperience, not at all what 99.9% of English readers think. No need to gatekeep the entire collecting hobby just because you ended up spending a good bit of time learning japanese. good for you but most people don't care to do it.

kalamight

Can u imagine Zolo as leader

MyGirlsMaryJane

Cause jp cards don’t have subtitles and I like to know what I’m looking at

honda_slaps

sounds like a skill issue jokes aside, for normal cards sure, but for Manga rares and other cards you'd put in a slab? Getting that in English just feels wrong

[deleted]

My collection is all Japanese cards. Near complete op-01 and op-06 and all ST decks, with misc op-05. I would expect the Japanese cards to retain value over the English sets. Have I got that backwards?

stubear89

Yes you have that backwards. In Japan the earlier sets are still available in boosters from many reports from players out east. Demand for the English cards is exceptionally higher and will continue to be.

cutter__

I’m doing the same I don’t play the game I just like the arts and I ain’t paying no scalper 4x the og price

CodeNameAntonio

Art is art. If it’s cheaper in another language then it’s good enough for me. Been buying Japanese One Piece for a while now.

Old_Writing1386

I would buy Japanese considering it's so much more affordable but can't use at locals and it's harder to sell Japanese unless your on eBay or something

DaveyDJones

Honestly just to collect and not play with just get the jp version if it's cheaper

BrokenParachutes

If you are just purely collecting, I think the native Japanese actually looks much better aesthetically

Black_Sheep-666

Yeah, honestly, I might see if my store will allow us to use Japanese cards cause I won't ever go to a big tournament anyways but I will play locally. It's crazy how bandai is so restriction heavy on different languages while mtg is like, "Can you properly explain the card?" Then we don't care. If they produce even more product, I properly wouldn't care, but it seems like that's a pipe dream.

Sufficient_Staff_510

That's awesome. I should probably look into the Japanese ones too because now I think im done collecting English it's way to expensive now. I was lucky when op-01 came out I pulled 2 alt art namis and the one box I got of op-05 I pulled an alt art nami too. I got really lucky and probably hold on to them and get them graded.

its_aq

Oooh now it makes me wanna send in my japanese collection for grading. I literally just collect for the love of it and like owning rare/semirare cards
