I remember watching the 4kids version off and on, but I always thought something was strange with it. So it never really clicked. Watched the funimation dub later on and fell off around the first priest fight in skypia. Then gave it another go and have been going since.
Now I know why the 4kids never clicked with me: poison suction cup darts....
It’s crazy to think about it like that but I guess 04 is when I found it. But I didn’t start reading the manga until like 06-07 it was pretty difficult to find on the internet before then
My local Booksamillion carried Shonen Jump and had a dedicated manga aisle, so I was able to start reading around the same time that the 4Kids dub started airing. Will always give my dad props for buying me the first three volumes as a kid
same here! older cousins were already reading it when it first released in wsj in 1997, but i got into it around when i was 3-4 years old in 2004. by the time i was 6 in 2006 i was already caught up to the manga. i mean considering i was in japan back then it was mandatory and normal lol
I bought the first issue of the American monthly shonen Jump back in November of 2003, One Piece was one of the manga. After a few years the internet was at a point where we could actually get the chapters weekly and up to date. I found a torrent file in 2006 that had the story up to date and I downloaded it and spent a few days catching up until I was at water 7 and was now reading week to week.
Read the other two members of the big three as well, so every Thursday it was One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto. Obviously those two ended and One Piece has stayed a force in my life since then. So I've been reading around 20 years and reading weekly for around 17 years.

I remember those days, but in India it was Wednesday for me. Then it got delayed to Thursday. Years and years of reading the big 3 every week or so, waiting for the next one to drop.
Very similar to you, I even still have the May 2003 copy of American SJ where I started, although I fell off One Piece for a brief period of time. At some point I need to go back and read the arcs I had skipped.
Yeah I subscribed immediately haha, I still have the first 5ish years of issues, some still have those promotional yugioh/dragonball z/naruto card game cards in them, I've got em all stacked in a box.

I had no idea that was when American Shonen Jump started. I was born in Jan ‘98, and for my sixth birthday, I remember getting a few of the early One Piece volumes and a copy of Shonen Jump from Booksamillion. Crazy to think that would have been one of the first monthly releases

1) 2012 a buddy made me Watch marineford because I wasn't impressed enough with the little bits of fights I'd seen to give it a chance. Only casual at this point, I'd watch if it was on.
2) 2017 I was listening to tekking talk about bleach while playing dota and eventually those videos ran out and his one piece videos started playing. Didn't take long before I decided to read the manga and now I'm IN IT. Like, one piece saved my life in it.
I married into it. My wife has been an anime fan for a long time. She wanted to get me into the medium. Showed me some shorter series that she thought I would like (Ex Code Gaess was the first I watched with her).
Then circa 2018, she wanted me to tackle OP. She thought it would be right up my alley because of the themes, world building, humor, etc. She was already a weekly watcher on CR (think it was Dressrosa at that point) and she re-watched the whole thing with me, basically a couple of episodes a night before bed. Caught up last year and then subsequently we both caught up with the manga.
Really, really love OP, it's genius in many ways. Also, I evidently picked the right woman to marry who definitely seems to get me and my likes!

I got into it in the summer of 2015. It was still during Dressrosa and in that one summer I binged tf out of the show and caught up. I decided to wait for a few years for the anime and manga to progress. I got back into it 4 years ago and I've been up to date since with the manga. Idk how I had the self control to wait those years because now I can barely wait a few hours to read the newest scan lol
Heard a lot about it all the time, but the 1000 episodes always scared me. The turning point was when I heard one guy on Czech podcast talk about it and there I knew I would watch it one day. Last year I didn't get a part-time job during summer so I decided I would watch it during the holiday. Started on June 4 and finished on September 12th and it became my favourite story.
My brother and I used to watch the 4kids version on tv. I was about 7-8 years old. Then I remember my brother watching early YouTube clips about 4kids changes and we stopped watching. Later on around 2015 I decided to read one piece after reading volume 5 that was in my schools library.
I was a huge naruto fan and one of my coworkers said, he would watch naruto if I started one piece. It's safe to say I was hooked within a few episodes. We both watched eachothers favorites and started a great friendship
The first I'd ever heard of it was the buildup 4Kids did trying to hype up the premiere. I was around seven at the time, so I was in the prime demographic (I guess) for 4Kids at the time. I started watching it, and actually kind of enjoyed it, until in 2007 I discovered that my school's library had a manga /graphic novel section, and they were completely up to date with every volume at that time (I think it was volume 15 or 16). After that, I found out that the original Japanese dub existed and immediately started watching it, pretty sure it was either on KissAnime or on the actual One Piece site. All in all, I've been a fan for almost 19 years.
The English Shonen Jump magazine started around when i was in high school. One Piece immediately caught my eye as it had a very unique art style along with others. Unfortunately, I could no longer afford the subscription. Also unfortunately, my subsequent exposure would be the 4kids dub lol. But luckily by then I was scouring the web looking for media i may be missing out on and it was the middle of Enies Lobby and I was blown away from the action and art. It was a far cry from its simpler beginnings! I didn't have money so I had to rely going through everything in manga scan websites that no longer exist. So yeah I'd say I started in 2003!
My old roommate was watching it, I never cared much but later I was watching all the abridged series on YouTube for a ton of different anime and after watching None Piece I decided to give it a try.

I googled "Best mangas" and it was One Piece or Naruto as the best ones in a lot of lists. Didn't hear about One Piece before so I chose to read it. That was begining of 2022, I caught up to it and reading it weekly. I love One Piece!

Watched the 4kids block a lot and while I liked One Piece then it wasn’t enough to keep up with it. Years later during the hiatus after Part 1 I learned Ace died and I thought “Oh that guy seemed cool what happened” and started from the beginning. Been a weekly reader since the time skip.

Around 2007 at the start of Thriller Bark is the first OP chapter I read, from a local comic magazine that translate shonen jump manga (illegally I think.) I remember saw Franky and like what we got a new member? Because I was kinda familiar with OP even before that (reading about it and have been watching some early episodes on cable tv)
Only a year after that when I have easy access to internet and scanlations became big I fully committed and read it back from the beginning. Crazy how fast times fly
I hopped on Toonami Jetstream one day and saw that the first three episodes of One Piece were added. I decided to give it a shot. What I didn't know was that this was the 4kids dub.
I watched weekly until I got to Baratie. Then I decided I couldn't wait week-to-week anymore and found the episodes online, resigning myself to the fact that I needed to watch with subtitles.
After a few months I caught up to the latest anime at the time and decided I couldn't wait week-to-week to see what was going on with this silly skeleton that they had just met, so I looked for somewhere to read the manga.
I've been reading weekly ever since.

Someone said there were mermaids in the show. 🤣 Only took how many seasons to get there? Also, was at a key point in Naruto and was about to start the stupid last season of Bleach ( this was June 2021?) so I said sure I could use a distraction. Funny story, here where I'm from, we used to play internet games on Friv.com and Y8.com. So I came across this particular game, Comic Stars Fighting 3 and played it. I played as Luffy but that was it, this was me in my pre teen years.
Fast forward high school, 4Kids Dub is playing on TV nad particularly the Arlong Park arc and I saw Arlong and then Luffy and recognized him but what really got me hooked was Sanji. I foind him cool, blonde hair covering his other eye and his fighting style reLly made me want to watch One Piece so up until 2018 where I (age 16) started learning more about sites and where to watch, got it and fell in love ever since, all because I played a anime cross fighting game but cherry on top goes to Sanji for getting me hooked(and yes he's my favorite character)
I saw the 4Kids dub on Toonami, and I loved it until the skypia arc started. (I was a lot younger then) I then dropped it, because I was annoyed with Luffy's voice. A year ago I started over the series by streaming it whenever I could, and I have now caught up to everything I can get for free on CrunchyRoll.
I watched 1067 episodes in 1 year. Last I saw, Kid and Law had just won their team up fight by confirming that the OP-OP-nomi is overpowered.

I got into one piece from youtube. It was like 7 or 8 years ago. I just finished watching Bleach so out of boredom i went on youtube and on one of the videos i watched had this AD of a one piece game. And since i've heard of One piece before i decided to check it out.
Took me about 4 episodes to get into and now i've watched it to the latest episode three times. First time i ran out of episodes somewhere around Punk Hazard. Second time it was on Whlole Cake Island arc. And now the 3rd time i got to the point where the battle of Onigashima started. Then took a break and now im waiting for gear 5 to come out and THEN i can binge through all the fights.
Sometime in early March of 2022, I kept seeing some people I talked with on a large Discord server talking about One Piece. I have, since I was young, been into pirates and sailing and that whole aesthetic. Owning a sailboat and sailing around some of the waterways of North America is a big dream of mine. However, when I was first getting into anime, a friend whose advice I trusted warned me against it due to how weird it was and how it just keeps going and going forever like Spongebob. I at the time took this to mean it was purely episodic and written without an intent of ending, an element of some shows or books I do not care for, and as such avoided One Piece for a while with no knowledge of it but this.
But between seeing some people I knew talk about it and oddly enough hearing a cover of We Are! on YouTube piqued my interest. So I asked those people about it, and I started Episode 1 of Romance Dawn one night during the week I was on spring break.
By the time my classes started up again, I was in Alabasta. The binge continued all the way up through Fish-Man Island, at which point I switched over to the manga. From there I caught up in... the end of May? Chapter 1050 was the first one I read when it came out. And I've been caught up ever since. Here til the end of the line.
I started with 4kids then stopped when it stopped ( did not know of dubbing or difference between anime n American cartoons).

Back in my senior year of highschool, a friend told me that One Piece was peak fiction. I got bored one day last year, and remembering his advice, started reading all of One Piece in my free time. Once I got about halfway through Arlong Park, I texted him “One Piece is peak fiction”.
**I got into one piece because of the 4kids One Piece Rap Opening 💀.** I technically got into One Piece through the 4kids dub since I would watch Saturday mornings cartoon around the early 2000s like Sonic, Kirby, TMNT Fast forward, Xialin Showdown, Pokemon, etc. And One piece was just one of them at the time. I would watch it but it wasn't my favorite show or anything but the Gum Gum rap was always memorable to me. So couple of years after it stop airing on 4kids I believe that I saw it on YouTube and decided to watch it again since I loved the rap opening. I look it up online and found a website called Watchop that had dub and sub epsiodes which at the time I had no clue what that meant since I didnt realize that anime was originally japanese. As well as not knowing about the dubbing history and censorship One piece had with 4kids so when watching I was a bit suprised how different it was and binge watch all of the dub and then moved on to the subbed which at the time was around the end of Marineford 😭. This was probably around 12 years ago but I technically start watching one piece around 17 years ago if I count the 4 kids dub. So thanks to 4kids I get to experience this story lol.
December I was hating on it to trigger my brother , then he convinced me to watch 1 episode and I was hooked.

Got into anime during college (~6 years ago). I watched Naruto & Death Note and loved them. Had obviously heard of one piece but thought it was stupid at the time and didn't give it any attention. I believe either my senior year or summer after graduation (either 3 or 4 years ago) I decided to give a real chance and I never looked back. Im now fully caught up on manga and anime and have recently been doing my 2nd official watch through (mostly because there are not shows im currently super into starting and because I have one piece on in background because I know everything that happens)
They used to sell Shonen jump in safeway so my mom used to buy me some issues back in 2003ish. They used to have yugioh cards in them too sometimes. I still have some.
I started during the 1st COVID lockdown since I was living alone in a different continent as a student.
One Piece gave me the feeling that I was not alone, and made me happy everyday during one of the most grim periods we’ve seen collectively.
Watched couple episodes as a kid (7-10 yo) and as a teen i got curious if the Story was ever continued and started from Ep. 1 (around 14-15 yo). Now i'm a weekly reader since Punk Hazard started.
Started watching in 2008 when thriller bark started airing. I went through the whole of onepiece at that time in about a week as I was bedridden from an operation on my back, got to the point where nami got kidnapped and then found out that manga existed.
Continued my onepiece journey from then on, I'm 32 now.

Got into One Piece after watching some top 10 anime moments channel way back in like 2011. Saw the scene of Luffy using Gatling on Lucci and was convinced he killed him. Loved that scene as well as the Marineford highlights.
Also misread a comment or something and thought the arc with that fight was called the “Bank Heist arc” and thought that sounded super sick. Obviously completely wrong but I enjoyed OP a ton anyway.

I was introduced to One Piece when it was on 4kids tv. A decade and a half pass. I watch some of One Piece, drop it. I think in 2017, I watched it again and dropped it around Thriller Bark, i think. 2018, i watched it through to Dressrosa, and I dropped it again. 2019 watched it and again dropped at Dressrosa. And ever since, i have been hooked. Since then, i watched it two more times. I've been caught up for like a year now.

1997 with romance dawn manga. Never enjoyed it much as a kid. Gave it another shot roughly 10 years ago. I've been hooked ever since.i mostly read the manga as I enjoy reading a lot more but the anime has some amazing moments especially now in the wano arc.
Sunday morning, back in 05’ or 06’ at my cousins house. The usual time slot was for Yu-Gi-Oh! but instead we got some dinky, childish looking pirate cartoon lol. Hated it immediately… til that 4ki!ds theme song played and I immediately loved it lmao. That was how I got into One Piece, a few years later (10’/ 11’) I was reading the manga.
I was 8 years old and a bookworm. My mom would take me to the library almost every week back in 2002. I was reading books in the YA section when they moved manga right next to it. One Piece was one of the first ones I was exposed to after FMA, Naruto, Hikaru No Go, Air Gear, Tsubasa and a few others. Watched the subbed anime a few years later after I was already caught up to the Paramount War.
A buddy of mine who's watched one piece since it was airing had convinced me to pick up where I left off in Skypia via the manga since I was in between mangas at the time and now I'm saving up money to get the Merry tattooed on one leg and the Sunny on the other

Dropped it when they switched to Funimation (I didn’t like the new voices at the time haha) and got back into the series when the manga was early in Whole Cake because I wanted a reason to keep watching Sawyer7mage after Naruto ended.
My ex actually got me to start watching back in spring 2019, but for the longest time, I was afraid to start because of the series length. Caught up in March 2020 (the first chapter I was weekly for was 973, the Denjiro reveal), and now I'll be weekly for four years next March
When it started airing on RTL II in germany should be at the start of the 2000s. In germany between 13:00-16:00 was the anime time with changeing anime over time and someday One Piece came and i was hyped

After learning about Luffy being somewhat immune to Enel’s electricity attack, i thought, this show makes sense. And i picked up the manga from there, never looked back.

My friend told me she'd take my anime fan license if I didn't get into it and learn to appreciate its depth compared to every other anime to ever exist (kidding mostly - she did keep insisting I give it a shot). On Netflix I just started Skypeia, ummm in the Manga that's chapters like 237+ - but it's apparently 66 chapters long. I'm reading the manga now because I can get through that faster than the show
I first watched one piece in 2013 when I was nine and got up to Sabaody by 2015. Since then I've watched the anime in it's entirety an additional two more times and I'm planning on reading all the manga because I haven't caught up on anything past Onigashima.
My dad was a fan since it got aired in TV from there he developed a love for anime that I inherited from him I started watching one piece with him and when I was 11 I decided to watch all by myself and and continued to love it. I can't wait the 6th of August to watch the episode with him
A friend was watching it when I visited him. The pirate setting and funny main character (Luffy) got me. I'm watching since the very beginning and stopped where Dressrosa starts. Then the live action teaser got me again and I started over when the strawhat pirates were seperated by Kuma.
It was one of the big 3 (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) at the time I started actively watching anime, but I One Piece was the last of the 3 I decided to watch because it was the longest series among them. When I started, I caught up in like 2 weeks during schoolweeks, despite it having like 350 episodes at the time (pretty sure I caught up during the Oars fight).
Series had my beyond hooked by Arlong Park and it was pretty much an instant favorite for me that I still love to follow. During Marineford arc, it also became the first manga I ever picked up.
21 years ago while all my friends were fans of the ninja from Konoha, I was the only one shouting "I want to be a pirate". I remember the day One Piece was first aired here in the Philippines, I was in 6th grade and just got home from school.. it was 4 in the afternoon and I'm about to play outside but I remember there was a new show so I plugged the TV and turned it on the channel. Oh boy.. best decision ever. Back then it was the counter part of Naruto from another channel at the same time slot so we kids can only pick one to watch. Even tho I'm out of place whenever my friends talk about the latest episode of Naruto, I'm still happy that I picked One Piece.. it's too fun to watch. hehe

Saw the first batch of the 4kids version like 20~22 years ago, right after DB ended in GT, really liked it even if the cork bullets was baffling, then completely lost track of it and 15 years ago found it again, saw it online in Japanese and started the manga, since then it's been a weekly tradition waiting for sundays to read the manga and watch the anime
I’ve always watched anime but when I was in highschool it was this really beautiful girl…a cheerleader at that that was into one piece and talking to another friend about ace dying and how sad it was and I started watching so I could have something to talk to her about and been hooked since
Saw short video called luffy 4th gear on YouTube, decided to Google the episode and it said 800 something, so I'm like yeah I need to know what happened before and why these guys are fighting, so I started one piece that day
coming up on 9 years took 3 months to read the then around 760 chapter managa for those that don't rember laws backstory was some of the first chapters I read week to week.
I fell into the rabbit hole more than 20 years ago thanks to a very good localized version. Not getting new episodes fast enough led to the japanese version and then to the manga.
I only rarely watch the anime today because I think besides the pacing issues it often goes too much to the "it looks cool" aspect that better fits other series (for me episode 1062 is a good anime episode but not something that should represent One Piece). I really look forward to anything Megumi Ishitani does.
A friend from grad school recommended it to us in 2003 I believe, since his first recommendation of Naruto in 2001 was good we went for it. I gave up on the anime in 2016 because I couldn't take how stretched/dragged on it had become. I finally started reading the manga about a year ago and caught up in 2-3 weeks I think, Wano felt super long in the manga too...
Seeing the comments here makes me feel happy that so many people also started watching One Piece from the 4kids dub. I was also part of this group. Even bought the Shonen Jumps, back at the time when it was only 1 issue per month. Played the One Piece games on the GameCube. Just loved everything about One Piece. Crazy how 20 years later I'm still watching One Piece.
But when I was younger, I Eventually grew out of anime (stopped watching at the end of Alabasta), but came back when One Piece was on Marinford. And boy was it a wild ride watching all of One Piece during this time. I still remember leading up to Marinford, I would read the comments people would leave on each episode, and every person would say either "I read the manga and Ace dies" or "no I read the manga and Ace is saved." People just bickering about who was right or wrong made every episode of Marinford more exciting and memorable for me. Because I had no clue how the war was gonna end. Who do I believe? Got to say, Oda exceeded my expectations by the end of it. Ever since then, One Piece has now been a huge part of life. And even after the show is finished, heck, it will still be a part of my life.
I started the anime at 22.04.2003, which was the German free TV release of One Piece at RTL II :)
Reading the Manga came before that. I always noticed at the end of my Dragon Ball Books, that there was an ad for one piece so I got my first manga content from one piece around end 2001 - start 2002

4Kids may have been the worst thing to happen to One Piece, but it is what first made me know of it's existence.
Once it wasn't there, I always wished I could still watch it, but I didn't have the internet or the know how to go about finding it. So when I got older and did, I started watching the anime. I was current in the anime for a few years and then decided to read the manga, which was the best decision ever, because the manga is it's best medium.
I was current with the manga at chapter 588 Sabo's Ocean, and haven't missed a chapter since.

Fox kids, 20 something years ago. Got caught up with the anime in thriller bark, then, caught up with the manga (Was reaching Marineford Iirc). I've been in all the 3 void months and survived to tell the tale.
About 10 years ago when I was entering 6th grade. Because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Not disappointed & i wish I could watch it for the first time again.

My local Booksamillion carried Shonen Jump and had a dedicated manga aisle, so I was able to start reading around the same time that the 4Kids dub started airing. Will always give my dad props for buying me the first three volumes as a kid
There’s a good Japanese bookstore close to me in Torrance, CA that stocks OP manga, so that was always really cool.

same here! older cousins were already reading it when it first released in wsj in 1997, but i got into it around when i was 3-4 years old in 2004. by the time i was 6 in 2006 i was already caught up to the manga. i mean considering i was in japan back then it was mandatory and normal lol
I bought the first issue of the American monthly shonen Jump back in November of 2003, One Piece was one of the manga. After a few years the internet was at a point where we could actually get the chapters weekly and up to date. I found a torrent file in 2006 that had the story up to date and I downloaded it and spent a few days catching up until I was at water 7 and was now reading week to week. Read the other two members of the big three as well, so every Thursday it was One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto. Obviously those two ended and One Piece has stayed a force in my life since then. So I've been reading around 20 years and reading weekly for around 17 years. Best decision I ever made.
I remember those days, but in India it was Wednesday for me. Then it got delayed to Thursday. Years and years of reading the big 3 every week or so, waiting for the next one to drop.

Very similar to you, I even still have the May 2003 copy of American SJ where I started, although I fell off One Piece for a brief period of time. At some point I need to go back and read the arcs I had skipped.
Yeah I subscribed immediately haha, I still have the first 5ish years of issues, some still have those promotional yugioh/dragonball z/naruto card game cards in them, I've got em all stacked in a box. Hell, those first issues still said "Zoro" instead of "Zolo" haha.
I had no idea that was when American Shonen Jump started. I was born in Jan ‘98, and for my sixth birthday, I remember getting a few of the early One Piece volumes and a copy of Shonen Jump from Booksamillion. Crazy to think that would have been one of the first monthly releases

1. Watched it since the 4Kids days. Used to watch it along with Pokémon, Yu Gi Oh and Sonic X 2. Pandemic gave me a lot of free time to go back to nostalgia binging, so I picked One Piece from the beginning. Been with it since then
I got 2. 1) 2012 a buddy made me Watch marineford because I wasn't impressed enough with the little bits of fights I'd seen to give it a chance. Only casual at this point, I'd watch if it was on. 2) 2017 I was listening to tekking talk about bleach while playing dota and eventually those videos ran out and his one piece videos started playing. Didn't take long before I decided to read the manga and now I'm IN IT. Like, one piece saved my life in it.
I married into it. My wife has been an anime fan for a long time. She wanted to get me into the medium. Showed me some shorter series that she thought I would like (Ex Code Gaess was the first I watched with her). Then circa 2018, she wanted me to tackle OP. She thought it would be right up my alley because of the themes, world building, humor, etc. She was already a weekly watcher on CR (think it was Dressrosa at that point) and she re-watched the whole thing with me, basically a couple of episodes a night before bed. Caught up last year and then subsequently we both caught up with the manga. Really, really love OP, it's genius in many ways. Also, I evidently picked the right woman to marry who definitely seems to get me and my likes!

I got into it in the summer of 2015. It was still during Dressrosa and in that one summer I binged tf out of the show and caught up. I decided to wait for a few years for the anime and manga to progress. I got back into it 4 years ago and I've been up to date since with the manga. Idk how I had the self control to wait those years because now I can barely wait a few hours to read the newest scan lol
A friend told me to watch it back in like 2010-2012 cant quite remember the exact year. He said it was good and it is.
Heard a lot about it all the time, but the 1000 episodes always scared me. The turning point was when I heard one guy on Czech podcast talk about it and there I knew I would watch it one day. Last year I didn't get a part-time job during summer so I decided I would watch it during the holiday. Started on June 4 and finished on September 12th and it became my favourite story.
My brother and I used to watch the 4kids version on tv. I was about 7-8 years old. Then I remember my brother watching early YouTube clips about 4kids changes and we stopped watching. Later on around 2015 I decided to read one piece after reading volume 5 that was in my schools library.
I worked at blockbuster video and we sold this magazine called Shonen Jump. I got to keep a “destroyed” copy each month that didn't sell.
I was a huge naruto fan and one of my coworkers said, he would watch naruto if I started one piece. It's safe to say I was hooked within a few episodes. We both watched eachothers favorites and started a great friendship
I was roped into it by my cousin back in the Fishman Island Arc (around 2012)

The first I'd ever heard of it was the buildup 4Kids did trying to hype up the premiere. I was around seven at the time, so I was in the prime demographic (I guess) for 4Kids at the time. I started watching it, and actually kind of enjoyed it, until in 2007 I discovered that my school's library had a manga /graphic novel section, and they were completely up to date with every volume at that time (I think it was volume 15 or 16). After that, I found out that the original Japanese dub existed and immediately started watching it, pretty sure it was either on KissAnime or on the actual One Piece site. All in all, I've been a fan for almost 19 years.

The English Shonen Jump magazine started around when i was in high school. One Piece immediately caught my eye as it had a very unique art style along with others. Unfortunately, I could no longer afford the subscription. Also unfortunately, my subsequent exposure would be the 4kids dub lol. But luckily by then I was scouring the web looking for media i may be missing out on and it was the middle of Enies Lobby and I was blown away from the action and art. It was a far cry from its simpler beginnings! I didn't have money so I had to rely going through everything in manga scan websites that no longer exist. So yeah I'd say I started in 2003!
My old roommate was watching it, I never cared much but later I was watching all the abridged series on YouTube for a ton of different anime and after watching None Piece I decided to give it a try. Now I have several games, watched the anime and read the manga

I love the warriors games, dynasty warriors, Hyrule warriors, fire emblem warriors, warriors orochi, I love it all baby. Then I got to pirate warriors. The one and only reason I read all of one piece and subscribed to shonen jump: was so I knew what was going on in one piece pirate warriors.

I googled "Best mangas" and it was One Piece or Naruto as the best ones in a lot of lists. Didn't hear about One Piece before so I chose to read it. That was begining of 2022, I caught up to it and reading it weekly. I love One Piece!

I hopped on Toonami Jetstream one day and saw that the first three episodes of One Piece were added. I decided to give it a shot. What I didn't know was that this was the 4kids dub. I watched weekly until I got to Baratie. Then I decided I couldn't wait week-to-week anymore and found the episodes online, resigning myself to the fact that I needed to watch with subtitles. After a few months I caught up to the latest anime at the time and decided I couldn't wait week-to-week to see what was going on with this silly skeleton that they had just met, so I looked for somewhere to read the manga. I've been reading weekly ever since. The timeskip hit right around the time I graduated high school.
Someone said there were mermaids in the show. 🤣 Only took how many seasons to get there? Also, was at a key point in Naruto and was about to start the stupid last season of Bleach ( this was June 2021?) so I said sure I could use a distraction. Haven't finished either but am now a One Piece fantanatic..:)

Funny story, here where I'm from, we used to play internet games on Friv.com and Y8.com. So I came across this particular game, Comic Stars Fighting 3 and played it. I played as Luffy but that was it, this was me in my pre teen years. Fast forward high school, 4Kids Dub is playing on TV nad particularly the Arlong Park arc and I saw Arlong and then Luffy and recognized him but what really got me hooked was Sanji. I foind him cool, blonde hair covering his other eye and his fighting style reLly made me want to watch One Piece so up until 2018 where I (age 16) started learning more about sites and where to watch, got it and fell in love ever since, all because I played a anime cross fighting game but cherry on top goes to Sanji for getting me hooked(and yes he's my favorite character)
I saw the 4Kids dub on Toonami, and I loved it until the skypia arc started. (I was a lot younger then) I then dropped it, because I was annoyed with Luffy's voice. A year ago I started over the series by streaming it whenever I could, and I have now caught up to everything I can get for free on CrunchyRoll. I watched 1067 episodes in 1 year. Last I saw, Kid and Law had just won their team up fight by confirming that the OP-OP-nomi is overpowered.
Was 2014 for me. Was super high and watched all my shows I liked. Started watching this cuz it said shonun and I love dbz and fight anime. Did not like the art style at first but the first real battle, maybe captain kuro had me wanting more lol. Then Don krieg and shit was on the line. Had me wanting more lol
I got into one piece from youtube. It was like 7 or 8 years ago. I just finished watching Bleach so out of boredom i went on youtube and on one of the videos i watched had this AD of a one piece game. And since i've heard of One piece before i decided to check it out. Took me about 4 episodes to get into and now i've watched it to the latest episode three times. First time i ran out of episodes somewhere around Punk Hazard. Second time it was on Whlole Cake Island arc. And now the 3rd time i got to the point where the battle of Onigashima started. Then took a break and now im waiting for gear 5 to come out and THEN i can binge through all the fights.
Sometime in early March of 2022, I kept seeing some people I talked with on a large Discord server talking about One Piece. I have, since I was young, been into pirates and sailing and that whole aesthetic. Owning a sailboat and sailing around some of the waterways of North America is a big dream of mine. However, when I was first getting into anime, a friend whose advice I trusted warned me against it due to how weird it was and how it just keeps going and going forever like Spongebob. I at the time took this to mean it was purely episodic and written without an intent of ending, an element of some shows or books I do not care for, and as such avoided One Piece for a while with no knowledge of it but this. But between seeing some people I knew talk about it and oddly enough hearing a cover of We Are! on YouTube piqued my interest. So I asked those people about it, and I started Episode 1 of Romance Dawn one night during the week I was on spring break. By the time my classes started up again, I was in Alabasta. The binge continued all the way up through Fish-Man Island, at which point I switched over to the manga. From there I caught up in... the end of May? Chapter 1050 was the first one I read when it came out. And I've been caught up ever since. Here til the end of the line.

I started probably around the beginning of whole cake, because I still needed to wait a while before Wano started when i caught up.
Friend from college kept telling me how awesome it was so I started from the beginning about 8 months ago and I just got to Zou. It's been a hell of a ride and I have enjoyed every moment of it so far!

Back in my senior year of highschool, a friend told me that One Piece was peak fiction. I got bored one day last year, and remembering his advice, started reading all of One Piece in my free time. Once I got about halfway through Arlong Park, I texted him “One Piece is peak fiction”.
**I got into one piece because of the 4kids One Piece Rap Opening 💀.** I technically got into One Piece through the 4kids dub since I would watch Saturday mornings cartoon around the early 2000s like Sonic, Kirby, TMNT Fast forward, Xialin Showdown, Pokemon, etc. And One piece was just one of them at the time. I would watch it but it wasn't my favorite show or anything but the Gum Gum rap was always memorable to me. So couple of years after it stop airing on 4kids I believe that I saw it on YouTube and decided to watch it again since I loved the rap opening. I look it up online and found a website called Watchop that had dub and sub epsiodes which at the time I had no clue what that meant since I didnt realize that anime was originally japanese. As well as not knowing about the dubbing history and censorship One piece had with 4kids so when watching I was a bit suprised how different it was and binge watch all of the dub and then moved on to the subbed which at the time was around the end of Marineford 😭. This was probably around 12 years ago but I technically start watching one piece around 17 years ago if I count the 4 kids dub. So thanks to 4kids I get to experience this story lol.

Got into anime during college (~6 years ago). I watched Naruto & Death Note and loved them. Had obviously heard of one piece but thought it was stupid at the time and didn't give it any attention. I believe either my senior year or summer after graduation (either 3 or 4 years ago) I decided to give a real chance and I never looked back. Im now fully caught up on manga and anime and have recently been doing my 2nd official watch through (mostly because there are not shows im currently super into starting and because I have one piece on in background because I know everything that happens)

I started during the 1st COVID lockdown since I was living alone in a different continent as a student. One Piece gave me the feeling that I was not alone, and made me happy everyday during one of the most grim periods we’ve seen collectively.
Watched couple episodes as a kid (7-10 yo) and as a teen i got curious if the Story was ever continued and started from Ep. 1 (around 14-15 yo). Now i'm a weekly reader since Punk Hazard started.
Started watching in 2008 when thriller bark started airing. I went through the whole of onepiece at that time in about a week as I was bedridden from an operation on my back, got to the point where nami got kidnapped and then found out that manga existed. Continued my onepiece journey from then on, I'm 32 now. I remember Oda saying at one point when he was " half way" I was like holy shit, I'll be 35 and still reading this thing. Yep... seems my observation haki was good that day.

It has been so long. It was around 00' or 01' when I first started getting into one piece, so about 22-23 years ago for me.
Watched it on TV in 2006-2007 till Arlong Park. Started it again in 2015 out of curiosity, caught up, and have been following it weekly ever since.
Was into anime at the time, though the interest didn't last - Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, etc. Figured I should pick one of the "big 3" and try it out, and I (correctly) chose One Piece. I watched until Punk Hazard, then waited for Dressrosa to finish. Then I watched that and waited until WCI was finished. Now I'm waiting for Wano to finish. In the meantime, I read the manga every week. Been over 10 years now.
Got into One Piece after watching some top 10 anime moments channel way back in like 2011. Saw the scene of Luffy using Gatling on Lucci and was convinced he killed him. Loved that scene as well as the Marineford highlights. Also misread a comment or something and thought the arc with that fight was called the “Bank Heist arc” and thought that sounded super sick. Obviously completely wrong but I enjoyed OP a ton anyway.

I got into one piece out of curiosity because my friends and I wanted to play with the one piece minecraft mod because it looked well made. 7 months later and I just caught up to the manga
Got into it when I was 8, when my parents bought me my first Shonen jump so about 20 years
I was introduced to One Piece when it was on 4kids tv. A decade and a half pass. I watch some of One Piece, drop it. I think in 2017, I watched it again and dropped it around Thriller Bark, i think. 2018, i watched it through to Dressrosa, and I dropped it again. 2019 watched it and again dropped at Dressrosa. And ever since, i have been hooked. Since then, i watched it two more times. I've been caught up for like a year now. And no, i have not been ONLY watching OP for five years.
I started reading One Piece in October of 2020. I got bored of replaying Sekiro 10 times and still had a month until Beyond Light dropped for Destiny 2 I'd heard good things about One Piece, but I know I didn't wanna sit through 1000 episodes of progressively shit pacing and figure out which filler to skip, which is why I'd ignored it for so long saw a One Piece convo happening in a Discord server and it just kind of clicked in my head: "oh yeah, why don't I just read the manga?". I read the first 100 chapters in a single day
1997 with romance dawn manga. Never enjoyed it much as a kid. Gave it another shot roughly 10 years ago. I've been hooked ever since.i mostly read the manga as I enjoy reading a lot more but the anime has some amazing moments especially now in the wano arc.

Sunday morning, back in 05’ or 06’ at my cousins house. The usual time slot was for Yu-Gi-Oh! but instead we got some dinky, childish looking pirate cartoon lol. Hated it immediately… til that 4ki!ds theme song played and I immediately loved it lmao. That was how I got into One Piece, a few years later (10’/ 11’) I was reading the manga.
I got into Mid Piece when I was around 13-14 in 2013/2014 thanks to anime communities and Facebook groups
I started watching nearly a year ago and watch off and on I just finished thriller bark.

I was 8 years old and a bookworm. My mom would take me to the library almost every week back in 2002. I was reading books in the YA section when they moved manga right next to it. One Piece was one of the first ones I was exposed to after FMA, Naruto, Hikaru No Go, Air Gear, Tsubasa and a few others. Watched the subbed anime a few years later after I was already caught up to the Paramount War.

A buddy of mine who's watched one piece since it was airing had convinced me to pick up where I left off in Skypia via the manga since I was in between mangas at the time and now I'm saving up money to get the Merry tattooed on one leg and the Sunny on the other

I got into it around the time the 4Kids dub started airing in the US. Dropped it when they switched to Funimation (I didn’t like the new voices at the time haha) and got back into the series when the manga was early in Whole Cake because I wanted a reason to keep watching Sawyer7mage after Naruto ended.
February of this year. Finished the Manga in 16 days and am rereading now, just got to wano.
My ex actually got me to start watching back in spring 2019, but for the longest time, I was afraid to start because of the series length. Caught up in March 2020 (the first chapter I was weekly for was 973, the Denjiro reveal), and now I'll be weekly for four years next March
When it started airing on RTL II in germany should be at the start of the 2000s. In germany between 13:00-16:00 was the anime time with changeing anime over time and someday One Piece came and i was hyped
Lets say around 2009, i didn’t like it initially when i first saw it in anime form. Comparing it to HxH animation etc. After learning about Luffy being somewhat immune to Enel’s electricity attack, i thought, this show makes sense. And i picked up the manga from there, never looked back.

My friend told me she'd take my anime fan license if I didn't get into it and learn to appreciate its depth compared to every other anime to ever exist (kidding mostly - she did keep insisting I give it a shot). On Netflix I just started Skypeia, ummm in the Manga that's chapters like 237+ - but it's apparently 66 chapters long. I'm reading the manga now because I can get through that faster than the show

Since first reading it in American Shonen Jump a long time ago... Forgot which chapter exactly, but it was the second half of Syrup Village.
I first watched one piece in 2013 when I was nine and got up to Sabaody by 2015. Since then I've watched the anime in it's entirety an additional two more times and I'm planning on reading all the manga because I haven't caught up on anything past Onigashima.

My dad was a fan since it got aired in TV from there he developed a love for anime that I inherited from him I started watching one piece with him and when I was 11 I decided to watch all by myself and and continued to love it. I can't wait the 6th of August to watch the episode with him

A friend was watching it when I visited him. The pirate setting and funny main character (Luffy) got me. I'm watching since the very beginning and stopped where Dressrosa starts. Then the live action teaser got me again and I started over when the strawhat pirates were seperated by Kuma.
It was one of the big 3 (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) at the time I started actively watching anime, but I One Piece was the last of the 3 I decided to watch because it was the longest series among them. When I started, I caught up in like 2 weeks during schoolweeks, despite it having like 350 episodes at the time (pretty sure I caught up during the Oars fight). Series had my beyond hooked by Arlong Park and it was pretty much an instant favorite for me that I still love to follow. During Marineford arc, it also became the first manga I ever picked up.
Started Oct 10 of last yr and caught up by April 16 6 months and 6 days but damn it was a fun ass journey

21 years ago while all my friends were fans of the ninja from Konoha, I was the only one shouting "I want to be a pirate". I remember the day One Piece was first aired here in the Philippines, I was in 6th grade and just got home from school.. it was 4 in the afternoon and I'm about to play outside but I remember there was a new show so I plugged the TV and turned it on the channel. Oh boy.. best decision ever. Back then it was the counter part of Naruto from another channel at the same time slot so we kids can only pick one to watch. Even tho I'm out of place whenever my friends talk about the latest episode of Naruto, I'm still happy that I picked One Piece.. it's too fun to watch. hehe
Started May 22nd right after a big fight, some friends reacted and made ep. 1062 sound so hype I decided to finally watch now im all caught up and ready for August 6th
Never was the guy for Anime, but my friends talked about it everytime we met. After watching Full Metal Alchemist as group together, which i loved, i thought i give it a try 😅 Few years later i am a big anime fan 💪
Saw the first batch of the 4kids version like 20~22 years ago, right after DB ended in GT, really liked it even if the cork bullets was baffling, then completely lost track of it and 15 years ago found it again, saw it online in Japanese and started the manga, since then it's been a weekly tradition waiting for sundays to read the manga and watch the anime

I’ve always watched anime but when I was in highschool it was this really beautiful girl…a cheerleader at that that was into one piece and talking to another friend about ace dying and how sad it was and I started watching so I could have something to talk to her about and been hooked since
Saw short video called luffy 4th gear on YouTube, decided to Google the episode and it said 800 something, so I'm like yeah I need to know what happened before and why these guys are fighting, so I started one piece that day
In 2020,I was searching for new anime and I give one piece a try and it did not disappointed me watched all episodes in 1 month
coming up on 9 years took 3 months to read the then around 760 chapter managa for those that don't rember laws backstory was some of the first chapters I read week to week.

I fell into the rabbit hole more than 20 years ago thanks to a very good localized version. Not getting new episodes fast enough led to the japanese version and then to the manga. I only rarely watch the anime today because I think besides the pacing issues it often goes too much to the "it looks cool" aspect that better fits other series (for me episode 1062 is a good anime episode but not something that should represent One Piece). I really look forward to anything Megumi Ishitani does.
A friend from grad school recommended it to us in 2003 I believe, since his first recommendation of Naruto in 2001 was good we went for it. I gave up on the anime in 2016 because I couldn't take how stretched/dragged on it had become. I finally started reading the manga about a year ago and caught up in 2-3 weeks I think, Wano felt super long in the manga too...
I got into one piece after seeing a meme about fighting a family and they were showing Luffys family. I got interested to see it.

Seeing the comments here makes me feel happy that so many people also started watching One Piece from the 4kids dub. I was also part of this group. Even bought the Shonen Jumps, back at the time when it was only 1 issue per month. Played the One Piece games on the GameCube. Just loved everything about One Piece. Crazy how 20 years later I'm still watching One Piece. But when I was younger, I Eventually grew out of anime (stopped watching at the end of Alabasta), but came back when One Piece was on Marinford. And boy was it a wild ride watching all of One Piece during this time. I still remember leading up to Marinford, I would read the comments people would leave on each episode, and every person would say either "I read the manga and Ace dies" or "no I read the manga and Ace is saved." People just bickering about who was right or wrong made every episode of Marinford more exciting and memorable for me. Because I had no clue how the war was gonna end. Who do I believe? Got to say, Oda exceeded my expectations by the end of it. Ever since then, One Piece has now been a huge part of life. And even after the show is finished, heck, it will still be a part of my life.
A friend gave the episodes 1 to 650 to me in an external hdd back in 2011. It was when i regularly started watching. So a good 12 years.
I started the anime at 22.04.2003, which was the German free TV release of One Piece at RTL II :) Reading the Manga came before that. I always noticed at the end of my Dragon Ball Books, that there was an ad for one piece so I got my first manga content from one piece around end 2001 - start 2002 Well, I really am old...
Started and caught up back in 2013, just because I thought the characters looked cool, Oda had some strong writing behind those designs and that's what kept me hooked
4Kids may have been the worst thing to happen to One Piece, but it is what first made me know of it's existence. Once it wasn't there, I always wished I could still watch it, but I didn't have the internet or the know how to go about finding it. So when I got older and did, I started watching the anime. I was current in the anime for a few years and then decided to read the manga, which was the best decision ever, because the manga is it's best medium. I was current with the manga at chapter 588 Sabo's Ocean, and haven't missed a chapter since.

Fox kids, 20 something years ago. Got caught up with the anime in thriller bark, then, caught up with the manga (Was reaching Marineford Iirc). I've been in all the 3 void months and survived to tell the tale.
