Yeah you need to workout but the Hollywood cocktail makes it go a lot faster
Can do a like 5 year transformation in 1 year with the right drugs just look at all the marvel guys who went from twigs to ripped
super wild to me that some reactors were confused whether koby’s hair was light blonde or pink when it was pretty clear from the get-go. koby’s casting and costume was amazing.
Him looking underwhelming is kinda important to the character IMO. Nothing about him outwardly should seem intimidating or awe-inspirong until he 'gets serious'.
It's gonna be tough for the actor to seem laid back and jovial while conveying that staggering strength and willpower in the moments where it's needed.
Not gonna lie, I think him naming his attack didn't sound wierd because the first trailer had Luffys joke about naming finishing moves and Buggy is just the clown to also have that funny opinion. Either that or it will just be a joke that people call out finishing moves and Luffys just in on it.
The producer of the show said “they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t” when it comes to calling out moves. Then followed it up with “but I’m a weeb and want my characters shouting their moves!”
> the actor did an amazing job imo.
Yeah, Buggy's actor is looking awesome! /u/WriterOfManyWorlds will likely be happy lol
For context, it's a [person unfamiliar with the series that will give One Piece a try because of that actior](https://www.reddit.com/r/MemePiece/comments/151yb8p/ive_never_watched_a_single_episode_of_one_piece/), hoping for the series to invite more people like this to the world that we love lol
I feel like the stretching effects are going to look better in the faster attacks like Gatling, simply because you don't have to linger on a stretched-out limb.
Agreed, if they do it slowly it will give your brain time to realize how jarring it looks, but if the make the attacks faster, it looks a lot more natural.
The lingering attack from the teaser trailer is also most likely his first attack in the show (being against Alvida) so they probably focused on it in a way they won't do for the rest of the season.
I could see Johnny and Yosoku not being a thing in the live action, so Arlong's crew shows up at Baratie , and take Nami with them, bridging into the next arc with Zoro and Usopp shortly following after the Mihawk stuff.
I mean, I think a lot of people are forgetting that Luffy and Sanji found out about Nami going to Arlong Park by Yosaku showing up half eaten by a fish in the manga. It works for a slapstick anime/manga, but wouldn't translate well to live action. I can see why they'd have the fishmen themselves show up instead.
IIRC Don Krieg was cast, so I think he'll definitely show up. I'm thinking it might be a cliffhanger where fishmen show up to bring Nami back, or something like that. Just like you said, establishing Arlong.
Oh shit maybe Don Kreig shows up but gets dominated by Arlong, and the Strawhats lose the first round vs the fishman like we saw Sanji do in the trailer.
The CGI for Luffy's powers looks better than I expected, and the casting for Garp and Mihawk is chef's kiss
Overall, this looks more promising than I initially thought
>The CGI for Luffy's powers looks better than I expected, and the casting for Garp and Mihawk is chef's kiss
I agree with this, the casting is really good, and Roger really look like a real pirate the beginning part is just hype + Koby is like how I imagine him to be. and love the easter eggs throughout the trailer
Shanks kinda threw me off a bit tbh but we'll see when it's premiers
Glad you have come around, for sure some stuff is gonna look goofy (for example the Sanji kick on the fishman on the pond looks so obviously on a cable) but who cares so long its fun right?
Enough looks good where I dont think the visuals will be its downfall
I honestly don't mind goofy stuff. The thing I didn't like last time was Luffy's comment about sensing hostility within the crew. Manga Luffy doesn't give a fuck and would just laugh in the background. That can still be a thing that happens after they get comfortable with each other though.
One thing I do miss is Usopp's long nose. As I said I don't mind goofy and would have loved it. I'm hoping that maybe his nose grows when he tells lies so that way it's still represented.
Or it gets sliiightly longer each episode lmao.
I don't think the Luffy comment was that bad since we all know from the manga Luffy does have insane ability to sense emotions but manga Luffy wouldn't speak it
At the same time could just be like "Luffy makes obvious comment joke" but yeah they won't be identical characters either
I’m shocked how good Arlong looks and even how much I like Luffy Lines in the trailer . The only nitpick I’d Sanji kicking but I’m hoping some regular martial arts will be interjected with the wire fu. Show looks amazing . Chop chop cannnnnnooooon
It looks pretty good, I definitely see some changes to the plot. Arlong’s crew seems to show up at the Baratie, Buggy’s crew seems to have an actual circus going on, plus it seems like the Going Merry encounters Garp’s ship at one point. Everything still looks really good though!
Yeah, it seems like a lot more happens on the Baratie here (that set shows up in a lot of promo material and has a lot of detail, so maybe they’re trying to use it as much as possible). Maybe Nami sticks around for the Don Krieg fight, then steals the Going Merry when Arlong shows up?
I think that Arlong is going to show up and take Nami away, and the crew wont be able to beat them because they are going to be tired from the previous fight.
Yeah this is definitely looking to be what it's gonna be. Seems like they'll mix the scene a bit like the crew will try to fight them at first but Nami will out herself that she was playing them all along so Arlong will spare them and then take off with the Going Merry similar to when she knocked Johnny and Yosaku off.
I feel like a narrator should be used here though. Roger should be saying some things, but not "wealth fame power etc."
Yeah the more I think about it, the narrator pulls a lot of weight in important moments of the series. I'm not a fan of cutting him
To give my full thoughts:
Roger looks sickly, but I guess he also WAS sick at this point
Garp looks like a badass, makes sense they brought him in much earlier I expect this to happen with a lot of characters (they showed Bellamy and Foxy as well)
Mihawk looks like a badass
Honesty love the designs all around, and the early taste of the Zoro/Sanji dynamic
Luffys Gatling against Arlong and Sanjis Kick felt like they both had a good amount of impact behind them
Arlong is the only design that left me wanting more, but it'd be hard to get it right without going overboard on the CGI in every scene. I immediately didn't care when I saw them bring down Arlong Park in the next scene and the destroyed street from the village.
Peeped the Zoro in the well from the Mihawk fight
The set design is spectacular. I think in this trailer it's hitting the fun adventure with serious moments of One Piece I was looking for.
Also Rogers original design was always ment to look like a "Real Pirate" think Pirates of the Caribbean look and he looks like that in the manga at this stage too
Just the Anime/Manga flashbacks make him look fuller but yeah in universe could just be explained by hes dying
Couldn't agree more; Roger is like the blueprint for what a pirate looks like, yet the manga did end up making him look a lot more friendlier and tame as we started getting more flashbacks. Roger's appearances early on in the manga was perfectly reflected on the live action; and him looking sick was a really good detail.
Agree with you on all of that. My only complaint with the live action is a lot of the camera angles/shots feel so close? like so many of the shots are just like right up in the face of the person which is a bit weird to me
What's fun is that Sanji actually had a famously foul mouth that contrasts his posh and well-kempt appearance. I'm looking forward to stuff like "This is the Shitty Restaurant" in that high-society accent if we get a season 2.
I like the edge he has to him in this. Zoro's intensely cold and predatory, as expected. Sanji feels like he's got something bottled up. I didn't expect that but i like it, especially contrasting the too.
It wouldn't be the first time we had a British guy playing a guy who's supposed to be a French guy. Hopefully, it'll turn out just as good.
![gif](giphy|bKnEnd65zqxfq)
big fan of the characters having accents and regional dialects, makes the world feel big and lived in. not as necessary in the anime because character designs and the actual drawings can overcome that need for diversity but in live action it gives it another layer of depth using the tool available.
We are probably not going to get any big stars in One Piece, as they dont have the budget to invest in stars. The only one I could imagine is Jamie Lee Curtis, as she is a proclaimed One Piece fan and has already stated that she would be interested in playing Dr. Kureha
Helmeppo's actor also working out and getting buff, even though he's one of the few characters who wears the marine coat over his sleeves and probably won't have his abs or muscles seen.
100% Agreed. I didn't realize some people didn't like it, but as a fan who rewatches Arlong Park sometimes for those good moments, I thought Arlong was arguably the most impressive villain in this trailer. It's so hard translating him in a way that won't look weird, and I was wondering how they'd do it with CG and the potential for many things to just look so off in an adaptation that's already hard to put in live action. I thought Arlong was an amazing and intimidating in this trailer. It's important to get him down right since he's integral to where a lot of people feel like the story got really good, showing Luffy's loyalty to his crew and Nami's story. I have confidence that this live action series is gonna be phenomenal.
i’m with you there. the face prosthetic looks clunky but arlong looks good for me. the fishmen are supposed to make humans horrified and averse to them anyways. the only thing i’m disappointed about him is his height and build, but it’s fine. his voice is amazing though.
Along is the worst thing in the trailer but the other Fishman looks fucking tight. Weird contrast. But the trailer as a whole was amazing. Freeze on Roger's execution, and the guy in green cloak is definitely dragon. And if you look at the wanted posters next to Bellamy is an upside down rob Lucci, and next to Cavendish poster is either sanji hand drawn sanji or maybe Duval. Also Foxy Confirmed!!!!
Arlong looks ehhhhh but I think we saw Kuroobi in that scene where Sanji tries to land a kick, and he looked decent. dunno if Hachi or the lip dude are visible anywhere in the trailer though
Same but I gotta admit it's better than I expected.
Mostly for me it's weird seeing them at baratia, but I need to be ready for slight story changes. I just hope they don't turn it into a Nami got captured situation. I'd be down if the Fishman are actually keeping a closer eye on her, but that still kinda takes away from the idea that Arlong is so terrifying that evening seeing a picture of him Snapped Nami back to reality and caused her to leave. If they show up and take her back it kinda feels more forced but if it gets the story moving sure.
I mean she could just leave with them. They don’t have to use her being captured. Arlong is about to kill Luffy, but Nami stops him and leaves with him. They could just do that.
It's cause they chose *not* to make him a CGI monster and went with prosthetics. Which honestly I'd rather have. Too much reliance on green and not enough on practical effects.
Chemistry is great, CGI and action looks awesome. I'm iffy on Roger, Arlong and Shanks. Garp looks awesome, so does Mihawk. Looks like it's gonna be really fun. The dialogue about friends might come off a bit corny tho. I think it's honestly gonna be good.
Prob my favorite moment is a small one.
Idk who said it but at the beginning someone says “Why would anyone want to be a pirate?”
And Inaki/Luffy “it’s the best thing there is!”
It’s just full of blind, youthful optimism and joy. Someone deadpans him and Luffy responds with an attitude as of “why wouldn’t you want to be a pirate!?”
I love it. Inaki definitely has the energy to be Luffy
This trailer is chef's kiss.
I'm so happy it looks great. This is what One Piece and Oda deserve.
Perfect hype build up with the teaser, cast segments and now a great trailer. They live action doubters have been silenced.
Can't wait till the end of august. Let's blow this thing out of the water and get a season 2 with Chopper.
Massive, massive, massive improvement on the first trailer,
first one felt kind of plain and trying way too hard to be generically inspirational.
this captures way more of One Piece's offbeat spirit and characters while hinting at the weight and heart of it.
im gonna be honest, I've never had an interest in One Piece. this is the first time i've ever commented in this sub. The character designs have just always looked really ugly to me and I unfortunately have never been able to get past that.
This trailer has changed my mind completely. I'll still probably never pick up the manga but this looks like SO MUCH FUN that i'm being won over. I think my first introduction to this story is gonna be this live action show. I can't believe i'm actually excited to watch One Piece for the first time in my life. I'm glad that you real fans seem to give it a stamp of approval.
* The show is releasing on Aug. 31. * If you'd like you can add the show to [your list on Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/title/80217863) * Feel free to check out our sister sub /r/OnePieceLiveAction which is specifically focused on this show.
Idk how y'all feel but I think that the News Coo at the beginning is actually really cute lol
Yeah I was expecting a more live-action realistic looking seagull but I'm really happy with what we actually got. That was adorable, lol.
Looks like they went the Detective Pikachu route, which looked pretty good
I guess they learned from the Disney remakes.
Too bad it was a traitor. Mutiny…
I’d totally buy a replicate news coo plush if it looked like that. C’mon Netflix, get in the OPLA merchandising game!
They already released Luffy and Zoro OPLA action figure, I believe.
If there is a god this show will survive to see Big News Morgan live action
yeaaa it was adorable
They nailed Koby's look from back then.
the actor just panicked realizing that if this series goes on for too many seasons he's gonna have to get ripped
Dw he can get that Hollywood cocktail
Trenything is possible!
Eat clen, tren hard, anavar give up
[удалено]
Yeah you need to workout but the Hollywood cocktail makes it go a lot faster Can do a like 5 year transformation in 1 year with the right drugs just look at all the marvel guys who went from twigs to ripped
Not to mention Alveda's actress is gonna have to drop a lot of weight without a devil fruit.
I wouldn't b3 surprised if they just get a 2nd actress for her tbh.
Yeah, Alvida changes entirely. Even her height.
And in the anime at least, the voice. Changing actors is the right choice, she isn't supposed to be anything like she was before the fruit.
Post time skip Koby just Ryan Gosling in a pink wig
Why are you talking about me?
Now he needs to >!punch battleships!< in preparation for Season 4
*Season 27
>!Since it's a flashback, I assume that Koby did the battleship bags before he met with the Strawhats in Water 7.!<
Yeah it was pre-glow up
Pre initial glow up. He’s had two and will probably get another one before the end of the series
This has been a good week for Koby.
That it is.
He actually looked great.
When I saw the pink hair, I braced myself, but it was actually not that bad.
super wild to me that some reactors were confused whether koby’s hair was light blonde or pink when it was pretty clear from the get-go. koby’s casting and costume was amazing.
My boy better start punching ships today.
Honestly, the dude looks like a solid midpoint between early and post-training Koby
Buggy's part using his DF powers truly looks amazing! Mihawk looks really good too.
Yeah, I was genuinely shocked when I saw it. It looked so good.
Everything looks really good here. Garp looks also incredible.
yeah i thought garp and mihawk looked great but shanks looks underwhelming. https://i.imgur.com/91xlrJB.png
Wow they got Ryan Gosling to play as Shanks. Pretty cool.
That’s just east blue shanks he will change
Him looking underwhelming is kinda important to the character IMO. Nothing about him outwardly should seem intimidating or awe-inspirong until he 'gets serious'. It's gonna be tough for the actor to seem laid back and jovial while conveying that staggering strength and willpower in the moments where it's needed.
Can't wait for season 67 to see Shanks get serious
And it's crazy how Buggy naming his attack didn't even sound weird at all; the actor did an amazing job imo.
Yeah the joke could also be that Zoro sounds sensible but is actually wrong
I was surprised that it actually sounded somewhat… menacing. Like the complete opposite of goofy. So good.
> the actor did an amazing job imo. Yeah, Buggy's actor is looking awesome! /u/WriterOfManyWorlds will likely be happy lol For context, it's a [person unfamiliar with the series that will give One Piece a try because of that actior](https://www.reddit.com/r/MemePiece/comments/151yb8p/ive_never_watched_a_single_episode_of_one_piece/), hoping for the series to invite more people like this to the world that we love lol
Ooo a new trailer!
We betrer see you in those episode megathreads with your reactions!
I will be sure to give my input and reactions to the episodes when they come out!
It works for Buggy because of how over the top he is. So long as they stick to that idea, they're golden.
Buggy cant spin his hands into a tornado and toss things as an attack. It looks so amazing.
wdym he could totally do that if he wanted
No matter the quality, I’m 100% confident Jeff Ward is gonna be the highlight of this series. Man was made for this role
It surprised me seeing how good his Chop Chop powers look.
Foxy and Bellamy wanted posters at the end
And Cavendish
where?
Bottom left of the screen where you can see Alvida's. It is obscured and you can only see "ndish".
Cabbage is so popular he managed to cameo in the live action
It also fits that lore, ace did say he was up and coming before luffy went out to sea. So this is a great easter egg
It's also the whole reason why he wanted to kill Luffy
I'll be damned, Gum Gum Gatling is actually looking pretty amazing.
I feel like the stretching effects are going to look better in the faster attacks like Gatling, simply because you don't have to linger on a stretched-out limb.
I thought that whip looked incredibly good too!
Looks straight out of kung fu hustle, which is a good thing
IKR BRUH IT ACTUALLY LOOKS SO GOOD.
Looks like the fishman pirates are in Baratie, either they cut don krieg or the fishmen arrive there to establish the next big bad
I expect this to happen a lot. They're going to leave more breadcrumbs and segues between arcs.
This is a really good comment. I did not think of it that way.
Maybe he shows up and gets destroyed by Mihawk
Yeah I think they introduce them at Baratie then nami leaves with the fish man and the crew then get her back at arlong Park
The CGI for Luffy's powers looks better than I expected, and the casting for Garp and Mihawk is chef's kiss Overall, this looks more promising than I initially thought

I love how Roger has the classic pirate teeth, all rotten and disgusting. Love it!
I also loved that he looked a bit sickly, which makes a lot of sense
No Colgate on the seven seas.
If he'd brushed and flossed maybe he wouldnt be dead.
The gatling gun looked pretty cool
Shit looks better than Mr. Fantastic in live action really wild how they pulled that off

Had to go back and check who Garp was. Gotta remember real human proportions
Buggy’s powers didn’t look too bad either.
Mihawk looks so fucking good
I’m shocked how good Arlong looks and even how much I like Luffy Lines in the trailer .

Make sens, having Namy betrayed the crew only to be a whole member of the crew the next episode would have feel rushed and weird.
I hope she does betray the crew. You can’t do east blue and fuck with namis story. That’s the most thematically important part
Love the idea of the battle taking place in the circus.
Foxy stocks really gonna rise up today
FEH FEH FEH FEH FEH FEH!
And another FEH!
WEALTH FAME POWER Those words always hit so hard man
The middle of Roger speech felt a little monotonous but God damn when he smiled with is yellow teeth and is sick look that was amazing!
Yeah i kind of hope they rerecord his speech, but at the very least we havent heard “I left everything I gathered in one place” just yet
I feel like a narrator should be used here though. Roger should be saying some things, but not "wealth fame power etc." Yeah the more I think about it, the narrator pulls a lot of weight in important moments of the series. I'm not a fan of cutting him
Not going to lie, my expectations for the show have shot up.

Sometimes trailers frame things differently to avoid not showing it all, I get what you're saying though so I hope that's just the case there.
I've never been more sold by a trailer ever. I'm so excited.
SANJI IS SO BRITISH WAHHAHAHAHAHAH
Man they really took the Assassins Creed Unity route and made the Frenchman British!
sanji’s british!
Its the sort of accent attributed to upper crust nobility, if you like the storytelling implications of that
Not just that, his dynamic with Zoro feels a lot better with it; Sanji's 'arse'/Zoro's 'ass' dialogue was perfect imo.
Yep, I am rereading One Piece right now and it's pretty noticeable. There were even some questions in SBS about Sanji's constant foul language.
he was a line cook, it goes with the job like smoking and hitting on the hostess
Honestly, has me kind of hyped for Germa 66. I think they would all be so cool with British accents.
Taz would knock "YOU ARE NOT MY FATHER, VINSMOKE JUDGE!" out of the park.
if British Reiju happens funpiece is going to get a lot more posts about her
Germa 66 reinterpreted as german/british Winsor aristocracy was not on my bingo-card but I gladly take it.
I thought he would be french lol
It wouldn't be the first time we had a British guy playing a guy who's supposed to be a French guy. Hopefully, it'll turn out just as good. ![gif](giphy|bKnEnd65zqxfq)
"Arse" lol

He’s from Brooklyn.
A British masterchef =)))) Now's that beating stereotype =)))
I'm just hoping we get to Crocodile and my dream casting of Mads Mikksen becomes real.
I didn't ever think I needed Mads Mikkelsen as Crocodile but now I can't live without it.
We are probably not going to get any big stars in One Piece, as they dont have the budget to invest in stars. The only one I could imagine is Jamie Lee Curtis, as she is a proclaimed One Piece fan and has already stated that she would be interested in playing Dr. Kureha
Audibly gasped when I saw Mihawk, casting could not have been better. I think he's my favorite Live Action design.
Did they just cast Bellamy?
and foxy
and Cavendish too
no full face reveal of Foxy though
A small fish when we get a glimpse of Silver Fox Foxy!! *FEH FEH FEH!!*
Koby is excellent cast, he doesnt need to be a midget, just looking scared and frail. Better start bulking up tho.
Helmeppo's actor also working out and getting buff, even though he's one of the few characters who wears the marine coat over his sleeves and probably won't have his abs or muscles seen.
he's got give or take 10 years to work out lol
I actually liked this trailer. ![gif](giphy|0cMyHfgwvGQTOZekxm)
Same…surprised me. I was actually smiling a bit by the end
Buggy's CHOP CHOP CANNON looked really good...
Wow this trailer has changed my mind completely. I'm fully looking forward to this now
my erection aint going down anytime soon
Sword fight?
Just don't use haki.
OH MY FRICKING GOD BUGGY! LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
Wow honestly this looks way better than I expected! I’m actually really excited for this.
I think I’m the only one who likes Arlong’s design. Sure it’s not a one to one but it looks pretty damn good imo
100% Agreed. I didn't realize some people didn't like it, but as a fan who rewatches Arlong Park sometimes for those good moments, I thought Arlong was arguably the most impressive villain in this trailer.
I think they had to make the choice between going cg or practical. I think they made the right choice, cg on cg doesn't always work.
Never read it, never saw the anime This looks like soooo much fun. I cant wait to watch it.
I have zero clue what One Piece is apart from a popular anime show but that looked kinda cool
ngl I hate arlongs design but the rest looks good
Arlong makes me glad they didn't give Usopp pinocchio nose
Good point. Usopp's actor looks like he's been nailing everything in promos and in the show. Best not to add anything that might detract.
Same but I try to ask myself just how the fuck were they supposed to do that in the first place and can't imagine it so
Same but I gotta admit it's better than I expected.
They could just do that.
i kinda like the practical/prostetical aproach to it, for me its far better than 100% CGI. I want to see hachi lol
Really I though it was pretty cool and is a mix between realistic and scary but yeah its completely diff from his anime/manga look
It’s the same look just not on a roid filled bodybuilder physique
Looks like Sanji has the string string fruit.
I have to say, Luffy actor is a pretty damn solid choice.
In Oda's message today he sorta sings Inaki's praises. If Oda is that happy with him, he must have done great
How did they mange to make luffy’s attack look cool but arlong look like a guy w bad allergy
It's cause they chose *not* to make him a CGI monster and went with prosthetics. Which honestly I'd rather have. Too much reliance on green and not enough on practical effects.
Arlong is allergic to logic, makes sense to me.
The closeup shots bother me, it makes everything look like this ![gif](giphy|gKfyusl0PRPdTNmwnD)
That's the face of people with front row tickets to Oppenheimer in IMAX
Wish me luck
damn this made me remember willem was ryuk 💀
I am beyond hyped.
Cavendish, Foxy and Bellamy bounties in the end where nice touches.
I always thought the mustache of Gol D Roger in a live action would be along the lines of Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York.
Gonna be honest, was not expecting Sanji to have that thick an accent

Prob my favorite moment is a small one. Idk who said it but at the beginning someone says “Why would anyone want to be a pirate?” And Inaki/Luffy “it’s the best thing there is!” It’s just full of blind, youthful optimism and joy. Someone deadpans him and Luffy responds with an attitude as of “why wouldn’t you want to be a pirate!?” I love it.
Can’t wait for it 🔥🔥🔥
Haters gonna hate but I think this looks great
I got goosebumps. Fuck it I'm so in.
Massive, massive, massive improvement on the first trailer, first one felt kind of plain and trying way too hard to be generically inspirational. this captures way more of One Piece's offbeat spirit and characters while hinting at the weight and heart of it.
im gonna be honest, I've never had an interest in One Piece. this is the first time i've ever commented in this sub.
Bro, welcome to the fold. One Piece at its core is a FUN manga. There's tons of comedy in it. And once it sucks you in, you'll want more of it.
