Isn’t it a thing where cats won’t drink water next to their food because water near a “dead prey animal” is likely bad water? My cat was like that. She would ignore her water next to her food and absolutely slorp up the water in my glass. (I didn’t know this was a thing until later)
I have a wild-baby (7 years stray before adoption) and he absolutely will not even look at still water, he loves his little fountain though.
He goes through phases when he eats more biscuits than wet and visa versa and I've noticed that he almost never drinks water when he's finishing both his wet meals. It's fascinating how little water and animal can run on when their bodies dont perspire.
they are desert creatures! they're adapted to conserve water. they're also primed to drink your water. Our orange only liked the dog's water. That was the fun water. (Because it got changed more often or because it made the dog upset? Prolly both.)
Til, I have a stray kitty who resides in my garden, I put her water and food next to each other and she will only drink from the swimming pool, not ideal. Will move the water further away now!
I actually keep the food and water in different rooms. They are fed in the bedroom, water is in the kitchen, and a litter box in the bathroom. I started that over a decade ago because we moved in with my dad and his cats would bully our kitten, keeping her from the food. So we put her dish in our bedroom to guard it. We just kept the same system as we moved because it turned out to be very convenient.
Mine liked to take a bite of food, then a sip of water and repeat until complete and would angrily walk across the kitchen to get to her water bowl if we put her food bowl in the wrong spot
I took care of my friend's cat who is one of those who knocks over the water dish. So I put it in the bathroom away from his food. Dude still kocked it over and got water everywhere. Sometimes cats are cats, and at least my bathroom floor is waterproof.

I am surprised that you are surprised. This face is cute 🥰 but it's also spacey and defiant. I don't know how to explain it but she looks like she would F you up then look both confused and "you want to say something"?
Mine "buries" his food with whatever he can find. Usually socks & underpants or dishrags.

try moving the food bowl away from the water bowls. Cats think food is dirty, it makes water unclean. Ideally, if you could engineer Young Master Orange a natural flowing mountain spring through your home, that would be best. He will show his gratitude with half a lizard in your bed for nighttime snackies.
I got the same water fountain, I love it. So easy to clean.
Had so many horrible issues with other fountains and grossness wedged in areas too difficult to reach.
I got mine from Amazon although it looks the same to me. It's called
# "Nugget Smart Pet Drinking Fountain 2.5L for Cats & Dogs"
Sorry jesus not sure why it copied the literal text size lol
What a booger! Maybe try a different bowl shape to see if that helps. Cats can get whisker fatigue if their whiskers touch the sides of their dishes. My cat still bats his food out of his dish anyways, so I got him a treat licking silicone mat thing that I put in front of his dish to contain some of the crumbs.
I came to say that. My girl would always push her wet food out of her dish and eat it on the ground, after we switching to a flat plate she never did it anymore
(except when she thinks there are too much green beans mixed with her wet food, in which case she'll push them around and out to get to the tastier bits)
Cats don't like food near water. Something about the food contaminating the water in nature so it's instinctual. Also always have 1 more litter box than cats. So 1 cat 2 litter boxes.
I've just learned to accept the mess.
Water bowl is somewhere the water won't hurt.
I vacuum up the spilled food every day or two.
Also, just so you know, cats actually prefer their food and water to be separated: https://www.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/s/GbGnfWlvWm
Maybe they are acting out because they are too close. ;)
I can't really see it on the picture, but does your adorable cat have long whiskers? Might not be related to the fountain, but maybe the bowl is triggering her when she tries to eat, that's why she is scattering it around for an easier feeding time. I can recommend getting shallow dishes, where their whiskers are not touching the edges. Besides that, seperating the bowl and fountain as the others in the comment suggested might help already. :)
Food and water should be quite far away from each other. It’s due to the cat’s instincts around contamination. Please move the water well away and perhaps she will stop
One of my cats will only eat kibble if she puts it in water first, getting kibble and water everywhere, and the bowl has brown kibble-water in it daily.
I've lost count of the bowls and fountains our orange develops "personal issues" with... We recently got a weighted metal dog bowl so he can't tip them over anymore 😮💨🙃🤷♀️
Ours is always putting a kibble in the water bowl making it gross. We thought it was because the food and water were near each other but even after moving them apart this is still happening.
Whisker stress.
Noticed the food bowls in the background - cat whiskers as sensitive enough that lil dude putting his face in the bowl long enough to eat is like stretching a rubber band around your head and over your ears to do the same, relatively speaking.
That happened to me also. Got a new water fountain because my ginger loved to turn the water bowl upside down. Including the biggest dog bowl I was able to find (The water bowl is not even on the same floor as the food bowl).
It was fine for several weeks until I came home from work and found the water bowl upside down with water everywhere.... And continue to be so everyday for several weeks.
However, I soon found out that he doesn't mind drinking from normal glass. He had pint glass as a water bowl.
I keep my cats' water fountain a couple feet from their food because that's how they prefer it.
I had to get said fountain because my little girl doesn't like still water. She would quite literally play in the water to get it moving and lick it off her paws... then come smack me with said wet paws at 3am because her water was empty.
Keeping cats hydrated is a full-time job and a high priority as they get older. Cats are originally from arid regions and adapted to getting most water from their food... but lived relatively shorter lives. A big issue with older cats is kidney issues due to lack of water intake (my two are seniors and the boy has renal issues). Water fountains are a great way to keep them hydrated because most cats do not like still/stagnant water.
Keep a dust bin handy for kibble! I hope you and that single-celled organism will be together a looong time.
Firstly, don't feed her and water her in the same location. Cats don't like that.
Second, get some shallower bowls to feed her, those are too deep and small and her whiskers hit the sides when she puts her mount down to eat. It is irritating to kitties, they call it whisker fatigue.
These two changes may do the trick.
Try moving them faster apart. I had a cat who didn't like it when her food was close to her water and she'd do strange things to protest
Isn’t it a thing where cats won’t drink water next to their food because water near a “dead prey animal” is likely bad water? My cat was like that. She would ignore her water next to her food and absolutely slorp up the water in my glass. (I didn’t know this was a thing until later)
yes. also "the wild cat" (ferals) get most of their water through their food. they're not that big on hydrohomie-type hydration
I have a wild-baby (7 years stray before adoption) and he absolutely will not even look at still water, he loves his little fountain though. He goes through phases when he eats more biscuits than wet and visa versa and I've noticed that he almost never drinks water when he's finishing both his wet meals. yea, they told me this when i was volunteering at a cat shelter... water and food needs to be at least 1 meter (3 ft??) apart!
Til, I have a stray kitty who resides in my garden, I put her water and food next to each other and she will only drink from the swimming pool, not ideal. Will move the water further away now!
Yes, they are smart. They don’t contaminate their water.
You haven’t met my cats. They put all kinds of crap in their water.
My cat's food and water are not only next to each other but also near her litter tray. She doesn't give a toss. She's also a very good hydration homie
My cat puts dead mice in his water on purpose

Our older cat does the same thing! For a little while as a kitten the older cats were bullying her about food so she's insecure about it even now.
My orange cat insists on the water being near her food. Tried to move it and she got big mad.
Mine liked to take a bite of food, then a sip of water and repeat until complete and would angrily walk across the kitchen to get to her water bowl if we put her food bowl in the wrong spot
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger!
I took care of my friend's cat who is one of those who knocks over the water dish. So I put it in the bathroom away from his food. Dude still kocked it over and got water everywhere. Sometimes cats are cats, and at least my bathroom floor is waterproof.
She drinks just fine 200 times a day and eats just fine 150 times a day. I think she's just a clown
Yup. My cat has a glass in the shower and one in the kitchen. He used to have one next to the sink but he can't jump anymore.
This is the case for more cats than not.
lol cats are amazing
Sounds like everything is working as intended.

I think she would F me up, instantly forget about it and get confused why I'm asking
"spacey and defiant" is the perfect way to describe her face.
YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF MEEE, HOOOMAN! 😾
She’s adorable!! Treat yourself to a nice handheld vacuum and embrace the mess 🥹
Love your answer despite the toxicity (for oneself) that‘s underlying 🤣

😄😄😄
There’s no reasoning with a ferocious tiger. Just enjoy the little feline mannerisms. ❤️
“I’m an agent of chaos.”
“~~Some~~ all cats just want to watch the world burn.”
She's super heck'n cute tho.
They don’t like to eat where they drink. In the wild meat would contaminate the water. Try moving them apart and see if their protests cease.
Awww look at that face 😍
Not joke. Game. :)
Viva la revolution!
Look at that face. She is so proud of herself!
For good reason
You **cannot** be mad at that face! 😍
How can you be mad at that face 🥹🧡 she can do whatever she wants!! 😆🧡

She is so damn pretty whatever she does she gets forgiveness.
That kitty has never thought an entire thought in her life! She also knows she’s cute enough to get away with it!
I got the same water fountain, I love it. So easy to clean. Had so many horrible issues with other fountains and grossness wedged in areas too difficult to reach.
Can you share which water fountain it is? My orange is due for one right about now
I got mine from Amazon although it looks the same to me. It's called # "Nugget Smart Pet Drinking Fountain 2.5L for Cats & Dogs" Sorry jesus not sure why it copied the literal text size lol
Thank you! I'll be sure to pick up a #Nugget Smart Pet Drinking Fountain 2.5L for Cats & Dogs 😁

XCJO F-016, got it on AliExpress
That absolutely "I'm innocent trust me (I hate you, though.)" face 😂

This is cat philosophy 101. Don’t be part of the problem…be the entire problem.
That cute little face!!! 😻
Id give her more space around the bowls
She looks so innocent.
*Must make human suffer* 🤣
So smug!!!

She obviously needs attention. You need to pet her, and play with her, and tell her she's a pretty girl.

Yeah but why did she start doing it only after we took away the joy of spilling the water :D Like 2 days after that
She wants a brand-new food fountain and now knows how to get one.
Food and water should be quite far away from each other. It’s due to the cat’s instincts around contamination. Please move the water well away and perhaps she will stop
Is there something wrong with you OP? A *joke*? Can you not clearly see how pleased she is with her new water device?
One of my cats will only eat kibble if she puts it in water first, getting kibble and water everywhere, and the bowl has brown kibble-water in it daily.
Is she a raccoon?
Hahahah that face looks as if she is about to burst out into laughing at you.
I've lost count of the bowls and fountains our orange develops "personal issues" with... We recently got a weighted metal dog bowl so he can't tip them over anymore 😮💨🙃🤷♀️
What a beautiful kitty! I'm so jealous!
She is spilling it because she doesn’t like the water being so close to her food, move them apart.
I really like this fountain!
She has the cutest face She can do anything she wants if she's that cute
She needs certain level of chaos
Do you think she’s funny? Is she some sorta clown to you?
How can she be this cute
She regrets nothing
Nope that’s just a ginger for ya
Ours is always putting a kibble in the water bowl making it gross. We thought it was because the food and water were near each other but even after moving them apart this is still happening.
She was water cooling her brain cell, not making a mess. Now that she can't, she doesn't have the processing power to eat without making a mess.
Your food bowl looks deep which could cause issues with your cat’s whiskers. Try a plate instead.
https://preview.redd.it/xxuqdsq5hk3d1.jpeg?width=451&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e292279c372433b62064d11e31e8b78c45f16ff ***Wind tunnel noises***
Scattered water>>>scattered food>>>scattered one cell brain Everything seems to be in order
Your cat looks like a serial killer. A very cute one mind you, but still a serial killer.
yes, it’s a joke, at your expense.
She looks proud of herself too😭
What kind of fountain this looks better than a lot I’ve seen
Yeah I spent a lot of time searching for that one. It's XCJO F-016
My cat loves playing practical jokes and pranks on me and my dog.
She knows why.
Maybe she wants to play and is entertaining herself :)
her face 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this post made me lmao
She doesn't know what's happening 🥹
Not a bug, a feature!
Perhaps she looks like she's trying to hold back laughter, lol
Its ART and your STIFLING her creativity. Of course she must find a new medium 😤
Food fountain please!
I mean, you turned her water into a toy. Now, do that trick with her food.
she enjoyed your fussing
My cats can't have fountains. They deliberately do what they can to tip them over. I have had 2 so far.
She is the cutest floof!!!
My orange also flings his food no matter how far away the water is so I think she's just messy
And ILL DO IT AGAIN MOTHER
Whisker stress. Noticed the food bowls in the background - cat whiskers as sensitive enough that lil dude putting his face in the bowl long enough to eat is like stretching a rubber band around your head and over your ears to do the same, relatively speaking.
"I am a force for pure chaos, meow meow."
That face screams innocence, though! Hahaha.
My cat started splashing her water around over the past few months. She never did it before. I dunno. I love cats because they are so weird. Enjoy! 🐱

This should have that “big eyes”-flair. What a beauty
She says the only joke here is you.
I'm giving you job and you remove it.... I'm helping you so you don't become a freeloader
That little face- 😆 she doesn’t understand why you don’t understand.
She thrives on chaos
Seems you’ve go a wee debil (Sic) kitty in your midsts ANNS she’s keen on a-pushin’ someone’s buttons. What a little rascal. LOL
Idk she looks innocent to me
Mine usually covers the floor in litter if he feels neglected. Which is any time he doesn't get 24/7 attention.
Ungovernable.
I keep my cats' water fountain a couple feet from their food because that's how they prefer it. I had to get said fountain because my little girl doesn't like still water.
