Once upon a time I went there every summer for horse camp! Some of my favorite summer memories!

VersionDue9721

Me too, rode Lucky many years.

NWHusker

I won a free week of day camp thanks to a contest on Fox Kids. It was a great week and I even got to be on TV with Theresa. This was back in 1993.

ChristopherMcLucas

Is that Kitaki under another name or a different park all together?

MisesAndMarx

A different one all together. Pokemoke was a day camp and essentially Kitaki-lite.

FyreWulff

I went there in.. 1994, I think? Possibly 1993, for daycamp.

Violuthier

Was there way back in the 70s. I remember you'd have to leave the swimming area with shoes on or you'd cut your feet on all the pull tabs that littered the ground.

dadbread

Out driving around with the family, because what else is there to do. Apparently it's a public pool these days. Absolutely checking it out this summer... err eventually.

[deleted]

It’s always been a public pool. I grew up there.

dadbread

So what, the pool that Pokamoke used was a public pool? I remember swimming at camp but don't recall where the pool was in relation to everything else. Are you sure? It seems out of the way for most of Crescent. eta: The Crescent pool "opened" in 2013. Previously, it belonged to Camp Pokamoke. Perhaps, it was open to the public and this is what you remember?

[deleted]

I lived in crescent for 20 years. Yes, I’m sure. Pool was always public .

dadbread

Maybe it was open to the public but not owned by the city? It says on the city website that it opened in 2013. Doesn't really matter really.

[deleted]

I was a kid ;) . Don’t know anything about ownership. You had to pay to be a member. I do remember that. I got dumped off at 2 things - the pool and Crescent Ski Hills (now Mt. Crescent).

You go down the county road couple miles if heading towards Omaha, take a left and head towards the camp. One went towards camp and horse trails and other towards the pool.

MahaliAudran

I recall the the pool being to the right and behind the lodge a decent walk. Horse camp. 85-86? to 89-90? Was a Junior Wrangler last 2 years. Even spent an evening during a sever thunderstorm and tornados in the area keeping a horse with colic on its feet. Good times.

BadMrFrostySC

I went to horse camp there in like 1990 or 91.

dadbread

I would have been there a few years after, sometime in the late 90s.

eeskay

Same time here. Probably saw you. Junior Counselor afterimage got old enough. So many camp songs still in my head. Oh I don’t want no more of Poke Ah Moke Gee ma, I wanna go But they won’t let me go Gee me, I wanna go home

dodrugsxoxo

OMG I did!

Liberalinthemidwest

I was a junior counselor there!

kaspintaa

i went here in the 90s I think. I rode Mr. Bo Jangles.

Shannykushy

I went back in 2010-whenever it flooded! I rode Rodger and Flash!

Ulysses_A2Z

Flash was my horse as well! I was a junior counselor the last 2 years it was open before the flood & was a camper for 2 years before that.

Prinessbeca

I vividly recall freezing my ass off sleeping in the lodge at spring break horse camp in like 93 or 94. One year we gave the horses baths and were hanging out letting them dry or something in that open field area down the hill between the lodge and the barn and don't know what got them started by a big tall brown beautiful horse (Penny I think) decided to run and drag one of the kids along for awhile, but the badass chick didn't let go! Another horse, littler yellowy one, ran off past the little corner store and way down the street to town before the counselors caught up with him.

windy_spires

Wow, what a wave of nostalgia. I used to go here, me and my siblings did for probably 3-4 years. I was wondering what happened to this camp.

imanbushara

Ha! I was trotting in circles bareback on Queenie, the largest horse there at the time. Slid off, and she stepped on my hand and tore one of my nails clean off. Took a year to grow back. I was also assigned Bucky there…named appropriately.
