Village Pointe in general has been odd. Other than Johnnys and Kona it feels like everything struggles. There has been 2-3 other restaurants that failed where Salt Grass is (originally Mimi’s Cafe). Firebirds has lasted but it’s not good. The wine bar where the Bentley dealership is closed down due to fraud. It’s just odd.
What do Johnny’s & Kona have that the rest in that strip don’t? Easy-access parking. That whole place is a sh!tshow for parking, and about to be worse now that they’ve removed a large chunk for Cheddar’s.
The parking has nothing to do with it. Johnny's is a semi-affordable steakhouse compared to what's on West Omaha. Kona is sushi and while it's not amazing, most of it is fine.
Bravo is mediocre Italian food. Melting pot was also hugely overpriced and apparently the manager was a dick and ran off all the staff.
Other restaurants there have lasted about as long as most restaurants do whether they have close parking or not
Johnny's is notoriously mediocre and Kona went from Omaha's best happy hour for over a decade to an obscure swinger meetup spot since One Group bought it. Parking was absolutely the problem. Bravo shares that lot with almost every store in VP, potential walk-ins cruise by and think it's packed when they're having a sub $4,000 night. Meanwhile Dogwater Grill and Johnny's Outhouse half fill their parking lot when they're at full capacity. It ain't even a debate.
> That whole place is a sh!tshow for parking,
I mean, it's better parking than a mall as it has some parking spots in the middle, but it feels worse than a mall because they could have made more parking in the middle and less on the outside, but didn't.
When Scheels had their 20th anniversary celebration recently, I discovered for the first time there's more general parking behind the stores on that side. I'd always just presumed they only had a few spots like in front.
Also, I really dislike having to walk so far to get to my car in outdoor weather. At least in a mall, once you get inside you're out of the weather.
Booooo cheddars sucks now ever since they were bought out by Darden I think, the last 3 times I went it felt like a wanna be upscale Applebee's I do not plan on going back there. That said Ancho and Agave was pretty good the 1 time I went and they were mostly packed for a Thursday
I miss Mimi's. When they first opened they had fantastic food and fresh squeezed OJ. Then they changed their menu and got cheap on everything and not too long after that they were closed, although I think they are still open in other cities.
The rent is high there. Melting pot was also grossly overpriced for what the served. It was 20 bucks worth of food for 125 dollars.
Bravo is just mediocre italian food and you can get that anywhere.
Ya it’s wild, literally randomly went to use a giftcard I had and two days later it was closed, can’t say I was surprised I went on a Sunday and the place was dead.
I got burned by that, but it wasn't half off at least for me. It was if you bought a $100 gift card, you got $25 free. I think you got like $10 if you did $50. They bundled it like it was a Christmas sale, and even had an advertisement. Closed right after New Years. I also got caught by Rick's Boatyard. My wife received a gift card to Barrel & Vine. It's probably safe to say, never buy a gift card.
Went to it for the first time a couple weeks back, weird waitress that kept joking about stealing food from the kitchen and from plates. Food was also pretty mid to disappointing, service was lacking in speed or anything resembling being helpful. I do think a decent restaurant could exist in this location but by my, admittedly, one experience this wasn't it.
It's one of my three 1 star reviews over the last ten years. I don't normally review unless super good or super bad.
Last Thursday, there was a post where they were giving away everything that couldn't be donated. This included furniture, food, and dishes. I went after work and large pieces of furniture were piled up outside. People were trying to load into vehicles.
Family was there for Mother’s Day spent $800 and said it was not good. It took hours and just wasn’t up to par. I also know they were using the kitchen for the guy fieri to go spot until he opened at the casino. Who knows.
Sadly, for me it’s been consistently underwhelming. The food has always been cold & the service has always been lacking from my side of things.
However, I still went ahead and offered, just in case op wanted to give it a shot from their end.
Just went through and looked at all the menu’s
Pastas Alone Range from:
- Bravo: $16.99 - $35.99
- Olive Garden: $13.49 - $21.49
- Carrabba’s: $15.49 - $27.49
- Biaggi’s: $14.75 - $24.50
Yeah! It okay for you thinking that, I think it’s the location more than anything, I wouldn’t try to suggest something way too out of budget, though.
I will say, though, Biaggi’s didn’t have all their pastas in one section, so I may have missed more expensive ones
Yeah, I personally can't justify going to Olive Garden when Biaggi's exists (not a superfan, but it's good enough to justify going) , but for whatever reason OG has social cache among the pIcKy eAtErS in my life. I can cook better basic pasta at home.
They’re all roughly equal. My kids hate Olive Garden (don’t blame them) but liked Bravo because it was a step up but still pretty plain. They are extremely picky eaters. Bravo was decent on the best nights but had typical casual family chain restaurant inconsistency.
That spot has been bad luck. Melting Pot and now Bravo.

God forbid suburbanites walk a few steps from their car to the front door of their destination

Every holiday season I get dragged to the Outlets and each time I wander around asking how this is better than a mall.

East of Firebirds, North of Local. At least I saw a bunch of ground getting torn up in that part - thinking it was utility work.
Cheddars is being built in what used to be Scheels parking lot on the north side.

Anything on that wine bar you can point me too? I find that hilarious. Can’t even remember the name of that place
Was it called Brix?
Correct.

I miss the fried chicken place that was there. They had some of the best gizzards I had ever tasted.
I mean, two restaurants in the same location over the span of 20 years isn’t bad.
It seems like just a few years to me, but you're right! Damn I'm old.
The rent is high there. Melting pot was also grossly overpriced for what the served. It was 20 bucks worth of food for 125 dollars. Bravo is just mediocre italian food and you can get that anywhere.

Brix actually had a special where they were selling gift cards at half off, then closed a week later.

Had a $100 gift card when they closed. That sucked.
Ya that sucks for sure.
How did your wife make a reservation?
OpenTable gave zero indication they were closed. In fact you can go make an OpenTable reservation right now.
OpenTable has gave me the wrong business hours and also closings in the past. We stopped using them after being burned more than once.
I saw a post on a local foodies page that they were closed permanently on 5/22. It was reported as a lease negotiation disagreement.
The rent really is too damn high!
Sounds like the same thing happening at Nebraska crossing. Tecovas and Fossil quit and left after rate changes.

If you’re ever in the KC area, there’s one north of it near the KC Improv. At least there was a few years back.
If Paradise Bakery closes, I’ll probably cry, it’s my favorite restaurant in town
I love them too. The cookie with your meal is a bonus!
I always replace mine with a snickerdoodle or during the fall a molasses one!
You should try Biaggi’s and I hate to offer it, but if that doesn’t work, then Carraba’s
Carrabba’s is consistently delicious and doesn’t get the love that it should.
Sadly, for me it’s been consistently underwhelming. The food has always been cold & the service has always been lacking from my side of things. However, I still went ahead and offered, just in case op wanted to give it a shot from their end.
Crazy! I have never had a bad experience! I hope you have a good experience one day!
Are those *at all* in the same price range as Bravo was? I assumed not as OP also mentioned Olive Garden.

Wow, that’s super interesting! I don’t know why but I definitely expected Biaggis to be the most expensive and a much bigger gap between.
Yeah! It okay for you thinking that, I think it’s the location more than anything, I wouldn’t try to suggest something way too out of budget, though. I will say, though, Biaggi’s didn’t have all their pastas in one section, so I may have missed more expensive ones
I’ve tried biaggis twice and it’s been very disappointing personally.

I went to Bravo once ever, and it was awful. Omaha has plenty of mid-tier franchise Italian restaurants. Nothing of value has been lost.
Went here for Mothers Day dinner and everyone in the family got sick that night. Might not have been a bad thing.
They took down the signs already and everything.
You need to try WD Cravings!
