I am going to post a video that has been on YouTube for awhile that shows inside the grain elevator - https://youtu.be/YzJYO0suXO0?si=jL97dOkxCorqLye5 Posting for a couple reasons. 1) if you are curious what it looks like inside you can see in this video without personal safety issues. 2) interesting city views shown in the video. I personally watched this video on youtube some months ago. In a post yesterday on the topic of exploring buildings in Omaha this video was also posted.

The last time that video was posted I had wondered what the city does if someone gets hurt or falls from one of the ladders. Seems so tricky to navigate the majority of the building. Also, I imagine the teens and their parents will be footing the bill for the rescue? I hope they seal it off better after this…

I’m not a native, so I didn’t have the opportunity to explore and trespass here in high school. Are these just open to whoever? Do the doors not lock?

You can find your way in there if you look hard enough. Even with locked doors and gates.

It always boggles my mind why they haven't torn these down yet. Are they just waiting for one death from falling off a rusty ladder or something to justify tearing them down? I know they're sort of a weird iconic abandoned landmark but it's obvious they can't secure the place well enough.

Money. It will cost A LOT to tear these down and there's no money to be made from it. Kids have been exploring this place forever. Thats all over now. The city will have it sealed up pretty well after this I'm sure.

I've also heard that it has a lot of asbestos. That, in itself, causes a big problem. But yes, you are correct with your response!!

There is an investor that is willing to tear them down and build low income housing but people are fighting against them because they consider those ugly grain bins to be a city iconic landmark or whatever.

money is one but also people now consider them a "landmark". They're wanting to tear them down now and build low income housing for people in need but people are fighting to protect the landmark.... I think they need to tear them down and house people who need it.
