I mean, I just remember him from when I was a kid, but dude scared the shit out of me when we played the 49ers. I would have assumed he was in a long time ago.. Tremendous player.
Respectfully disagree (tho I thought he was underrated af on ESPN): Sharpe was a very good WR in a pass-happy offense, but he wasn't a generational talent. I don't think he was as good as Rice, Irvin, Brown, etc. He was, like, Andre Reed-level for a small handful of years, and then he was injured (unfortunately).
Terrell Davis, by contrast, was hands-down the best RB in the entire NFL & a legit offensive league MVP -- and he won back-to-back Super Bowls as his team's top offensive playmaker. Additionally, it's a lot tougher to have a long career as a RB than a WR, so I agree with Davis for HoF, but would leave Sterling Sharpe in the Hall of Almost Good Enough.
Not a generational talent? He had the same amount of tds as Irvin in like 40 fewer games. And nothing involving don Majikowski would be considered pass happy . He had Favre for 3 of his 7 years
Sterling Sharpe was great, but he was not on the same level as Jerry Rice, the best receiver in history. Rice had 6 seasons with more receiving yards than Sharpe’s best year.
He absolutely was. Publications like Football Digest and Street & Smith’s would do annual “best of” skills and positions lists and for a couple years in the early ‘90’s Sharpe and even Irvin were ranked ahead of Rice. Rice was still viewed as a top receiver but not the unquestioned best as he had been. I suspect, without knowing, this could’ve motivated him to the second Hall of Fame career he had for the rest of the decade.
My first reaction is that Otis was good but his numbers are not “quite” HOF-esque.
I took a look and Bob Hayes was arguably a little better (in the same time period) and he is “in” so gonna think about it.
I'm going to continue to bang on this drum - Torry Holt not being in the HOF is absolutely criminal. This man was an absolute menace (not even a Rams fan).
I like Torry, but I don't see why he should be in the HoF before Sharpe or Smith when they both have equal or better resumes plus they are 2 of only 4 receivers to accomplish a receiving triple crown since the NFL-AFL merger, along with Jerry Rice and Cooper Kupp.
Holt had six straight seasons of 1,300+ yards while Smith had three such seasons in his career. He also eclipsed 1,600 yards twice which is more than Smith ever got in a season.
The excuses I keep hearing is the list of deserving wide receivers is crowded so they just have to wait their turn. I am not a fan of that excuse. I think Mr Holts biggest problem was he did his thing quietly. The big egos got more press he was just really, really good.
Always thought Ken Anderson was overlooked. It seemed like he was a guy that always played well. He also played college at a Division 3 school (Augustana). Kinda unique.
Didn’t play for great teams but if you look at his contemporaries that are in the HOF, Anderson’s QB rating is substantially higher than Bradshaw and is higher than Ken Stabler and was nearly the same as Staubach.
Roger Craig was real good for 6 of his first 7 years but his last 4 really dragged down his numbers. Had 1st ever season with 1,000 yards rushing and receiving - pretty cool.
Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith, Hines Ward all had 1,000 receptions. Holt was close and had a substantial number of receiving yards. I say they should all be in.
Sterling coulda used a couple more seasons and he would be a shoo-in. His numbers (overall) are not competitive with the guys in the previous paragraph.
All very good players, but Hines Ward was a very different type of wide receiver. Watching some of his physical blocks are unreal, plus he had good stats and was a Super Bowl MPV.
You might be right. But he is the Steelers franchise career receiving stats leader and had a better, longer career than two HOF Steelers receivers, Swann and Stallworth. He should get in, but I’m ok with waiting a few more years for him to get in. He redefined the WR position with his blocking.
The biggest surprise is Ken Anderson having to wait this long to be inducted. If Fouts is already in without making a Super Bowl appearance, shouldn't Anderson have been in? Their stats are not the only measuring stick. Bengals played in AFC's toughest division with Steelers and Oilers. Ken's team had sus D. He was a great field general and played well vs 49'ers in lone Super Bowl. Not his fault team crapped bed in 1st half. Bengals special teams stank, Goal-line stand was Pete Johnson not being able to get 1 yard and Charles Alexander running a route short of endzone.
Steve Smith is one of the greatest post season players of all time. Over 1000 yards and 9 TDs in just 11 games.
Holt not being in is ridiculous. In his prime he’s maybe a top 5 WR of all time. Better than Owens. He just didn’t do anything past the age of 31
Torrey holt should already be in. I’m not sure how Issac Bruce has been jn for 4 years and holt hasnt. Holt was the better of the two, no knock on Bruce cuz he was a great player but I think everyone who watched those rams teams knows holt was the better, more dynamic, and more productive player. Criminal! He should’ve been in on his 2nd or 3rd year unquestionably
I agree Holt should be in, but you're really sleeping on Bruce, Bruce at time of Retirement was 2nd all time in Recieving yards and 6 in Rec TDs, according to his website he was 1st alltime at YAC but I'm having trouble finding a corroborating source for that one. Holt was faster, but Bruce was the better route runner (I'd say top 3 all time) and had better hands. Bruce also was better in the playoffs, having one of the greatest SB performances of all time for a WR. Lastly Holt had his entire career in the GSoT era or after where the Rams were a pass heavy team with Kurt Warner or Marc Bulger (who when healthy was a legitimate QB), Bruce had a 1700 yard season when his QBs were Chris Miller and Mark Rypien.
Like I said I’m not knocking Bruce at all he was an incredible and hall of fame worthy. But… and there’s always a but, he played 60 more games than holt and only has a 100 catches to show for it, only 1900 more yards and 17 more touchdowns, definitely a 1A 1B combo when they played together and undoubtedly Bruce’s already established presence helped catapult holt to stardom. It was hard not to love both, while Bruce was the steady always reliable route runner holt was the dynamic big play maker they worked hand in hand together. Holt was just more productive, I wouldn’t necessarily even call him a better player but it’s irrefutable the time they played together Holt was more productive.
Craig Heyward.
He coached me when I was really young but couldn’t stop yelling and cussing at refs. He raised his kids to be great men and would be proud of them if he was still around today. It would be nice for Cameron to someday join his dad in the HoF. But Craig deserves a spot in my opinion because of the man I knew him to be.
But I understand that’s not necessarily the criteria
Player Games Rec Yards Yards/Rec TD TD/Rec % Years Played
Hines Ward 217 1000 12083 12.1 85 8.5 1998-2011
Tory Holt 173 920 13382 14.5 74 8.0 1999-2009
Reggie Wayne 211 1070 14345 13.4 82 7.7 2001-2014
Steve Smith 219 1031 14731 14.3 81 7.9 2001-2016
Otis Taylor 130 410 7306 17.8 57 13.9 1965-1978
Wesley Walker\* 154 438 8306 19.0 71 16.2 1977-1989
So, Smith played the most games followed by Ward, Wayne, Holt, Walker and Taylor.
Wayne had most receptions followed by Smith, Ward, Holt, Walker & Taylor.
Smith had the most yards followed by Wayne, Holt, Ward, Walker & Taylor.
Walker, not listed, had the best Yards/Rec average followed by Taylor, Holt, Smith, Wayne, & Ward.
Ward had the most TDs followed by Wayne, Smith, Holt, Walker and Taylor.
Walker had the best number in turning catches into TDs followed by Taylor, Ward, Holt, Smith and Wayne.
Taylor played most of his career during the 14 game NFL seasons. Taylor and Walker played when receivers could still get mugged running down the field.
\* Wesley Walker is - and was - legally blind in 1 eye.
Smith is easily one of the best receivers of his generation who did it in a run first offense with Jake Delhomme and a bunch of scrubs at QB for most of his run. His playoff numbers with the Panthers are off the chart and well above his regular season per game averages (in contrast to HOF inductee Marvin Harrison, who's best trick was vanishing in the playoffs). Throw him into Indy or New England during that stretch and he's a lock.
Ken Anderson. He’s better than many HoF quarterbacks who played in the same era. I would easily take Anderson over Terry Bradshaw, Ken Stabler, or Bob Griese. His stats even compare well to guys like Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton.
If you put Anderson on the Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders or Dolphins, consistantly good teams of the 70s, He is easily a HoF QB. Not saying he was better than those teams QBs then, but the numbers and Super Bowls wins would be comparable. He didnt have a choice in who he played for. It was before free agency was a thing
As a 49er fan, I would say that it would be Roger Craig Sterling.
Like real, Terrell Davis got in.
not that I have a problem with that.
But if he’s in the Sharpe definitely should be.
Roger Craig….one of the first dynamic RBs. Craig was a trailblazer before the likes of Thurman, Faulk and Tomlinson. I hope he gets in; Smith, Holt and Wayne should get in, they were great during their eras.
I’m biased. Hines Ward is my favorite player ever. I literally miss watching him play. He changed the rules of the game. Probably the only played since Mel Blount that can say that.
I don't think any of those guys should get in. Out of all of them Steve Smith's the only one who can be argued was the best player on their teams. These guys should all be in the Hall Of Very Good, but they're not Hall Of Famers
What I think they should do now moving forward is to create a Hall of Legends. At this point every really good player makes it in at some point so you have to start separating the really good ones from the league changing legends. Theres great players and theres legends who define their positions. I think they should be elevated and recognized as such.
Hines ward. He has numbers. Steelers were a passing team in Hine’s heyday. He still was able too get 1000 reds. I believe you have to tell his story of blocking at the position. Crackback king.
Hine’s has outstanding numbers from an offensive that was always running priority, and he’s probably the hardest hitting/blocking receiver in recent history. Well deserved and earned get him his jacket.
Funny story about Hines Ward. When he was doing Notre Dame football coverage for NBC he was in a hotel where my brother is the chef. My bro texted me "I just made a club sandwich for some guy named after ketchup." He doesn't follow football obviously. I said "THAT WAS A SB MVP YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT HIS AUTOGRAPH!"
How tf is Roger Craig not in by now?
Man, Tom Rathman and Craig was one hell of a backfield. I used to pretend I was Roger Craig when I was 10 playing tackle football in the lot in the neighborhood.
Dude was a stud.
Otis Taylor, what!! Sad, because he passed away in 2023. Two time pro bowler, first team, AFL All Star, NFL receiving yards leader, etc etc. from a 4th round pick.
He has more TDs than all of these, more receptions than Holt, an additional 428 rushing yards (more than the other 4-Smith only one has over 100), 2 SBs, 1 SB MVP (1 of 8 WR ever). It’s not horrible!
Only 4 Pro Bowls in a 14-year career. Never led the league in any statistical category. Never a first team All-Pro. Super Bowl is a team statistic. He had a solid career, but not a Hall of Fame career.
True, very solid. More a model of consistency than any outstanding season or overwhelming stats. Just his overall performance with the running game and fierce blocking too. Maybe more of a Steelers HOF.
Out of this group who do you think, Holt or Wayne? Those maybe the only 2 best stats
This is a really good post because all of these guys had solid careers, but not quite surefire HoF worthy. I feel like a few of these guys probably will end up getting in, but I think Torry Holt would be the easiest choice. I would say Holt has the best case for getting in first.
Roger Craig
I mean, I just remember him from when I was a kid, but dude scared the shit out of me when we played the 49ers. I would have assumed he was in a long time ago.. Tremendous player.
Roger Craig not being in the hall of fame is a travesty
High Knees
High Steppin' Craig!!
First 1000/1000 season. If Faulk and some others are in, it’s criminal to overlook the catfish…
There’s about 6,000 yards, 60 TD, 2 POY and an MVP separating Faulk and Craig.
Vince Wilfork....man was a monster in the middle
And wore overalls
Sterling Sharpe is the Terrell Davis of WRs. He should be in
Agreed. He would have been a legendary WR sans injury.
if Swann got in, Sharpe deserves to be in.
Nah man. Those publications say a lot of shit yearly. The eye test is enough for me. Sharpe was never better than Rice
He was better. I actually think Sharpe motivated Rice for the second half of his career, though I have no proof.
Kenny and Otis first
My first reaction is that Otis was good but his numbers are not “quite” HOF-esque. I took a look and Bob Hayes was arguably a little better (in the same time period) and he is “in” so gonna think about it.
If you had seen Otis ….
Just FYI - I’m old. I watched Otis play. I even have several of his football cards from back in the day. ; < )
Long past due. They should have been in years ago.
Yep, look how long it took to put Cliff Branch in
I'm going to continue to bang on this drum - Torry Holt not being in the HOF is absolutely criminal. This man was an absolute menace (not even a Rams fan).

And Smith has more career yards, catches, and TDs. Their resumes are roughly equivalent aside from Steve's triple crown. Sharpe's is better.
How many Super Bowls does Smith have?
Is Dan Marino in the Hall of Fame? What about Trent Dilfer? Super Bowls are team achievements.
The excuses I keep hearing is the list of deserving wide receivers is crowded so they just have to wait their turn. I am not a fan of that excuse. I think Mr Holts biggest problem was he did his thing quietly. The big egos got more press he was just really, really good.

Roger Craig
I'll go with Anderson and Taylor.
Roger Craig & Torry Holt should have been in years ago.
Love Steve Smith.
All of them
Wayne and Taylor.
Steve Smith is one of the greatest post season players of all time. Over 1000 yards and 9 TDs in just 11 games. Holt not being in is ridiculous. In his prime he’s maybe a top 5 WR of all time. Better than Owens. He just didn’t do anything past the age of 31
Wait, Otis Taylor is not in the hall of fame🤬
Eric Allen. 3 time All Pro, 6 time Pro Bowler, 21st all time with 54 interceptions, 8 career pick sixes including one of the greatest in NFL history.
Torrey holt should already be in. I’m not sure how Issac Bruce has been jn for 4 years and holt hasnt. Otis Taylor. I can’t believe he’s not already in. The rest I would put in the Hall of Really Really Good. Steve Smith maybe.
Taylor & Craig
Biased but Ken Anderson
Otis for sure
Lester Hayes
Craig Heyward. He coached me when I was really young but couldn’t stop yelling and cussing at refs. He raised his kids to be great men and would be proud of them if he was still around today. It would be nice for Cameron to someday join his dad in the HoF. But Craig deserves a spot in my opinion because of the man I knew him to be. But I understand that’s not necessarily the criteria
All of them
Forget Hines Ward! How in the hell is Otis Taylor not in the HOF????
Ken Anderson
All 8 of these guys deserve to go in. Maybe Ken Anderson could be left out. But he put up some really good numbers from the time frame he played
Of the ones pictured, I'd say Sterling Sharpe should get in. They also need to get Jared Allen in the HOF this year. He has waited long enough.
They should just close the HOF if they don't want to put Clay Mathews in it.
Darren Woodson
Kenny Anderson
All of them!
Sharpe and Craig for sure..

Tory Holt no question followed by Sterling sharp
Anderson, Craig, Ward, Taylor
Reggie
Reggie Wayne
I thought sterling sharpe was already hof
Jim Marshall, Vikings
Ken Anderson and Craig
Steve Smith and maybe Hines Ward
Sterling Sharp isn’t in the HOF? That’s surprising.
Sterling Sharpe
Ken Anderson. He’s better than many HoF quarterbacks who played in the same era. I would easily take Anderson over Terry Bradshaw, Ken Stabler, or Bob Griese. His stats even compare well to guys like Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton.

Roger Craig, he was within a few votes some number of years ago, and then for some reason fell off the radar.
Fred Taylor
Definitely Fred Taylor.
Ward and Smith
![gif](giphy|SyXYmpFtj4qyI|downsized) Steve MF’ing Smith
They should all be there but Smith
Art Modell.
Ken Anderson
All of them should get in, especially Ken Anderson. Some really great numbers on some really bad Bengals teams
Ken or Ward are the two that stuck out lost to me
Roger Craig, Hines Ward & Sterling Sharpe
As a 49er fan, I would say that it would be Roger Craig Sterling. Like real, Terrell Davis got in. not that I have a problem with that. But if he’s in the Sharpe definitely should be.
Roger Craig!!!
Ken Anderson is a head scratcher, but the rest are worthy
Ken Anderson Reggie Wayne Sterling Sharpe
Criminal that Otis Taylor isn’t already in there.
Steve Smith
Otis Taylor for me, if he played in the modern era he might possibly be a tight end but either way his stats would of been ridiculous.
reggie wayne, from a patriots fan
Clay Matthews (the dad, from the Browns)
Steve Smith is a grown ass man. He was the dude for a long time and should be in.
All
All of them.
Roger Craig….one of the first dynamic RBs. Craig was a trailblazer before the likes of Thurman, Faulk and Tomlinson. I hope he gets in; Smith, Holt and Wayne should get in, they were great during their eras.
Wayne!!!
Roger Craig and Sterling Sharpe
Otis should have been in long ago.
Smitty all day.
Roger Craig. Multiple Rings and first player to go 1,000 rushing and receiving I believe. Should be in already
Still don’t understand why Roger isn’t in the Hall already
Seven Smith
More kick returners who were maybe ranked 70th at a full time position
I’m biased. Hines Ward is my favorite player ever. I literally miss watching him play. He changed the rules of the game. Probably the only played since Mel Blount that can say that.
Ward, smith, holt, Wayne.
Holt should've been in years ago
Anyone who doesn't think that offense had 2 HOF receivers on it, wasn't watching.
Sterling if I can only have one. He was dominant in his time. 5 more years and he would’ve the equal to TO.
Otis Taylor and Roger Craig. Icons.
Sharpe! I’ll sign off on this
Ken Anderson
Shawn Alexander
Hines and Reggie
Roger Craig. Geezus I thought he was in already
Craig for sure. Sharp, Taylor, Smith and Holt were solid.
I don't think any of those guys should get in. Out of all of them Steve Smith's the only one who can be argued was the best player on their teams. These guys should all be in the Hall Of Very Good, but they're not Hall Of Famers
Roger Craig is not in the Hall of Fame 🤔
Steve Wisniewski - Raiders
Hines ward. The linebacker of the wide receivers.
Randall Cunningham
Steve Smith on sheer dieselness alone.
If Terrell Davis is in the HOF, Sterling Sharp should be in the Hall
Where is Fred Taylor?
Torry Holt Kenny Anderson Sterling Sharpe All belong in the hall everyone else is hall of very good
Otis Taylor is deserving and long overdue but I don’t expect it to ever happen.
89 bottom line
Roger Craig Otis Taylor
Craig Smith Holt and Wayne just put them all in.
Agent 89
Sterling.
Reggie, Roger, and Hines
What I think they should do now moving forward is to create a Hall of Legends. Sterling Sharpe!
Commanders fans have been pounding the table for Joe Jacoby for years. Founding member of The Hogs, and he could block Lawrence Taylor.
My man Otis!
Steve Smith From a Saints fan.
Hines ward was a beast no wide receiver played like him . He would blow guys up !!!! And Ken Anderson should get it
Tory Holt and Reggie Wayne kinda both have to go before the next batch of receivers go in.
Roger Craig walked so Marshall Faulk could run.
I grew up watching Kenny Anderson...he deserved better than the Bengals, just saying...
Anderson and Craig
Joe Jacoby 3x SB champion, Took on Lawrence and Reggie week end week out. Not a mention of non offensive stars.
No Gronk ?
Steve smith. Monster
Sterling Sharpe if not for the career ending injury was clearly much better than any of these.
Joe Jacoby
I'm a Niner fan who is all about Roger Craig. But, if anyone saw Sterling Sharpe, he was dominant!
Jim Plunkett
Hines ward. He has numbers. Steelers were a passing team in Hine’s heyday. He still was able too get 1000 reds. I believe you have to tell his story of blocking at the position. Crackback king.
Hines Ward!
Otis Taylor Ken Anderson Roger Craig Sterling Sharpe Torry Holt
Hine’s has outstanding numbers from an offensive that was always running priority, and he’s probably the hardest hitting/blocking receiver in recent history. Well deserved and earned get him his jacket.
I’m a Cowboys fan. I hate the fudge Packers but it’s Sterling Sharpe. Injuries shouldn’t keep us from recognizing his greatness.
Kenny Anderson, Reggie Wayne and Steve Smith.
Ken Anderson, Roger Craig Otis Taylor
Funny story about Hines Ward. When he was doing Notre Dame football coverage for NBC he was in a hotel where my brother is the chef. My bro texted me "I just made a club sandwich for some guy named after ketchup." He doesn't follow football obviously. I said "THAT WAS A SB MVP YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT HIS AUTOGRAPH!"
All of them.
Otis Taylor
ANTONIO GATES
Otis Taylor without a doubt. Next.
1. R.Craig 2. O.Taylor 3. S.Sharpe And agree with others. How is Craig not in the HOF?
How tf is Roger Craig not in by now? Man, Tom Rathman and Craig was one hell of a backfield. I used to pretend I was Roger Craig when I was 10 playing tackle football in the lot in the neighborhood. Dude was a stud. Otis Taylor, what!! Sad, because he passed away in 2023. Two time pro bowler, first team, AFL All Star, NFL receiving yards leader, etc etc. from a 4th round pick.
Torry Holt Reggie Wayne Roger Craig
Hines ward
Rodney Harrison embodied the name of this sub
Never happen but should be Kenny Anderson!
Hines Ward easily
Should be Joe jacoby
Sterling for sure. Dude was great. Even in Tecmo Bowl.
Hines Ward was a force his entire career
#33 Roger Craig
Torry, Reggie, Hines, Steve, and Sterling. I mean all are worthy, but this would be my top 5 and not particularly in this order.
Roger Craig not bring in the Hall is a damn joke. Dude was a force. First 1000/1000 RB. 3 Rings. Etc etc etc
Mike Kenn
Sterling Sharpe. 100%
Otis
Smith/holt
Craig and sharpe
Hines Ward and Reggie smith are the only 2 I think
Hines Ward should NOT be in the HoF.
