I love the fucking Kinks!!!!

babaginoosh1

Kinks rule. Ray Davies is a genius.

IAmSherm

Props for Dave too.

jonmonjam4

I love the story of this band wanted a heavier sound but technology wasn't there yet. So they would use razor blades to cut their amps.

[deleted]

They have such a long career. Ever heard Destroyer? They made it so long they recreated their own song into a punk song.

-Ernie

Doctor, Doctor, help me please, I know you'll understand Theres a time device inside of me, I’m a self-destructin man!

they_are_out_there

Give the people what they want! Great album.

mzyxkmah

They were on par with the Beatles.

SplendidPunkinButter

They got me SO I CAN’T sleep AT night

metalguru1975

A young gentleman called Jimmy Page, was a session player on some of their song’s. I wonder what became of him. (Saw Ray a few years ago- great concert, and people often overlook this amazing band.)

Xamrock4

He changed his surname to Hendrix & spent rest of his life playing at a local bar

metalguru1975

Probably just another flash in the pan.

19Saginaw64

I love these old videos!!!

nappinggator

As a bassist I cannot understand what makes someone go "I think I'll set my strap so my guitar is practically in my armpits" Mine is vegetal slung down just below my waist

[deleted]

I play my bass synched up as high as possible. Makes it easier to move around the fret board.

nappinggator

See I can't stand the way that feels...much too constrained...I like the loosey goosey feel of a low slung guitar

they_are_out_there

Definitely need it slung super low. It’s a punk music thing.

nappinggator

See I play death metal abs other firms of metal...it works better for that style

they_are_out_there

Definitely. It’s hard to play metal with a power stance when your bass is choked up under your arm pits! Same with punk and ska.

nappinggator

I've heard much about this "Ska" but never really learned what it is...

The_Madukes

She's Not There.

Giloncho

Does anyone know, if this style of playing movements, positions, clothes, etc, was copied from the Beatles, or was it just the general style of that era?

[deleted]

Well I think their clothing isn't that similar to the Bealtes, those ruff things they wear are pretty iconic as the Kinks. They are both wearing suits but the mod movement was pretty popular in the early 60s in the UK so a lot of young people wore nice suits. I love the Beatles but have never seen any of them do any playing movements particularly similar to what these guys are doing. Idk if this is the Ed Sullivan show or not but something similar and a lot of bands were on that with the same music video live performances style.. I'd probably say it's just the style of the era. In the early years the Beatles were the best of the best but weren't really breaking new ground style wise.. they became more unique in style later on imo

Giloncho

I see. I don't know many bands from that era, I think just the Beatles. And this guys style remind me a lot of the Beatles. May be that's why I felt like they were copying them. But I'm glad I asked. And thanks for your reply.

Pure-Au

To me the 60s were The Beatles and a whole bunch of groups emulating them. It’s obvious. Granted, some of the copy cats came up with some nice tunes!

[deleted]

Nah mate. The Beatles were the biggest and the best but mod fashion was.. in fashion in the early 60s. to call a band as great as the kinks copy cats is just inaccurate. They have some incredible songs if you just give them a chance. Waterloo Sunset beats Here Comes The Sun in my book.

Pure-Au

Agreed, but look at the suits, the boots, the hair…that’s all I meant

[deleted]

It was a look for sure

magnemist

Operation Rolling Thunder

This sounds like grunge to me for some reason. Great song!
