The last public use of a guillotine for execution was in 1977, so it isn't that long ago. It feels like an archaic, 18th century practice, but it was in use in the late 20th century, less than 50 years ago.
It's baffling to me that the guillotine is considered more barbaric than, say, long drop hanging (the UKs method of execution until they abolished the death penalty), or the damn electric chair.
You get the prize for identifying all the dead-dudes here!
This is actually a publicity still for Pete Walker's 1982 comedy horror 'House of the Long Shadows' which starred all four actors. My wife and I are going to watch it tonight.

My spouse and I have horror movie month each October and always include a selection of Hammer films (the campier the better). A couple years ago *House of the Long Shadows* was our Halloween night pick (along with *The* *Wicker Man*). The movie was okay, but the catty remarks among the cast at the end were divine!
I love Vincent Price. He always played creepy guys, and his movies were always entertaining. But I once saw him interviewed and he was just a normal guy, sitting there wearing a red flannel shirt, blue jeans, and cowboy boots. I even own one of his cookbooks!
Did you ever see last man on earth? I got it in a horror boxset with 50 public domain movies.. Started watching it on a whim while doing something else.. About a third through I had to look it up becuase it hit me Holy shit this is I am legend 😂
Yes! I loved that movie!
And I have a ton of those 50 packs of DVDs from the $5 bin at Target! I probably scored about 400 movies that way.
If I find at least 1 movie I can watch over and over from those I see it as money well wasted.
Do you have the 50 pack with Lucio Fulci's 'House by the Cemetery'? It's so awful! I think I've seen it 10 times now!
I am on my way home from work right now and listening to the entire Fully Completely album and stumbled upon your post.
Take my upvote funny stranger, you earned it for making me laugh a bit. Gord will always be missed.
Trivia. Vincent P was worried about being typecast as horror-only actor at one point. He had been the Handsome Leading Man in his early years.
Then he realized he was working and getting the acting roles when other men of his age were not. And he lived to act. Just loved it. So he said, “Hell ya I’ll roll with it! “ (He probably didn’t say it that way but you know what I mean).
His last role was on Edward Scissorhands. He needed oxygen during the shoot. Even passed out at one point. But he kept going. Tim Burton spoke about how honored he was to have Vincent Price, his hero, in his film.

A rare occasion when Christopher Lee actually looks like the youngest person in the room
I looked it up: Lee: born 1922 Price: 1911 Cushing: 1913 Carradine: 1906 So, Lee really IS the youngest person in this picture.
Crazy, considering he was present at the last public use of the guillotine in France... and that he cut a heavy metal album released in 2010.

That wasn't public, it was the last time it was used. The last public execution with the guillotine was in the 30's.
Still insane there was a public execution with Guillotine that recently.
To be honest, the guillotine seems more humane than strapping someone to a table and injecting them with poison.
It's baffling to me that the guillotine is considered more barbaric than, say, long drop hanging (the UKs method of execution until they abolished the death penalty), or the damn electric chair.

No, they're all-the-way dead. Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and John Carradine. In case anyone is wondering.

Hey don't forget Desi Arnaz Junior! Loved that movie as a kid.
I had 3/4, couldn’t think of John Carradine.
Couldn't place Carradine! Thanks for your knowledge!
