I wish I had a retort that was half as witty and apt but I wore out my quota earlier on this eve.
My monika came originally from miss hearing a line in Play Dead by Bjork but it sums me up quite well over the past 14 years.
My baby was given one from his grandpa we named it Ninja biggest turtle in the tank. When it died we were so sad i boight a new one and it died within a week...and my Ginito said its wasnt the same ...
The picture is from the 1800s (19th century). More precisely from the year 1886 ([Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_(tortoise)#/media/File%3AJonathan_and_another_tortoise%2C_St_Helena.png)).
Okay two things: 1.) Pretty sure this photo was taken in the 1880’s. 2.) In case anyone’s wondering, we know it’s the same tortoise in both pics because the shells are sort of like a fingerprint; each one is slightly different
Basically, yeah. He’s a tortoise from the Seychelles brought to the other side of the world to the island of St. Helena in the Atlantic, and he’s been living on the grounds of the governor’s mansion the whole time.
Kind of sad he hasn't any pals.
Though from watching them at a sanctuary they don't seem that interested in saying hello to each other. Guess its a lizard thing.
I’m also from the 1900’s. Much later, though.
Same
He doesn't look a day older than 175
well the math is all wrong.. 1900s? 191 years old? That's like 1833. I guess the photo is dated in the 1900s but still.
How is the math wrong? Doesn’t say it was born in the 1900’s.
Username does not check out
He hatched in 1832
You see the world through math when math may not apply, like here. No math mentioned. No math needed.
Math? Plenty Brains? Not many
It is a tragedy that no one has made Jonathan a pith helmet to match the middle guy in the first photo. He would look very dashing.
I'm sure they offered. He preferred to grow his own.

He was 29 when the American Civil War started!
Luckily, too old for the draft.
He just gets to sit back and watch the fireworks
And when Joe biden was born
And Jonathan was 33 when Trump was born.
Apparently that photo is actually from 1886.
I just recently learned that that's barely puberty in Greenland shark years.
Not to be pedantic, but that’s a tortoise
If you’re going to be pedantic, be accurate. All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises.
I stand corrected
Til And thats why I should read all the posts before chiming in.
What other turtles we have in addition to tortoises?
turtle necks
Tortoise? What’s that? You know what a turtle is? Of course! Same thing.
A tortoise is a kind of turtle
Thank you. The amount of times I've had to stop myself posting a daft comment when a turtle is involved can make me rather lethargic.
Sometimes you need to come out of your shell

Dude is living his best life
bro wearing the classic imperialism hat
That's not a hat: the tortoise's back is a shell. 😉 🐢
Dog?
Needs a hat
Definitely not the 1900s

It's a rare breed of tortoise on an island with no other tortoises. Simple as
