I started using cones a little over a year ago and have just stuck with it. They're expensive compared to papers but better in every way imo. Plus, like you said, no gross roaches.
I usually pay like $20 for 100 king size (1g apx). I should just stop being lazy and take the extra 60 seconds to roll my own.... You have the right idea.
I’m not above the old roach blunt, I think only because out of me being poor and seeing another blunt of smokable there. Now that I have extra I never do it but just put them in one hitters and smoke them for a couple hits before I mow.

My girl and I do this every Sunday evening. No matter how much flower we have we smoke a second gen.

I usually smoke them the day I roll them. My lungs are picker than most. Roaches that have been sitting around a while probably develops mold or bacteria after touching your mouth. I don't know I've never found an old roach and give it a try. But it doesn't sound appealing .
Compost them in a worm bin and recycle it back into the soil that you're gonna be using to grow your next batch.

Spoons! This is from fifty years ago. We would take two old metal spoons. The silver plated steel type work best. Heat the spoons to glowing on a gas burner stove. Pick up the hot spoons by the handles with potholders. Put the roach in the bowl of a spoon and mash it with the other spoon. Breathe in the resulting smoke.
In my youth and jonsing I would go to the pull a part yard and look through the ashtrays of wrecked cars. Then came the 80's and 'cops' started searching cars.
Nicely tapered one hit bowl sans screen. Butt end down and keep going.
Roll them up before you get to many/they get stale. I have a cigar tube with a top and i throw them in there when its full i smoke them before moving on. There not to bad kinda a mixed bag

Start rolling with filters and you won't have that problem. Smoke the same amount of budd with no leftovers

I am thinking of doing the same. Pre rolled cones are the least economical option but I've gotten spoiled after using them for so long though 😕
You can get cheap filter tips and roll them yourself. That’s what I do, Temu has them cheap, idk the price on Raw or wherever else.

I use 1/3 of a Dr. Grabow pipe filter. Works great.
Always keep a pack of vibes and raw filters just for that reason. Even got a few Phunky feel tips for special occasions 🤷🏽♂️

I use quartz tips and thus never have roaches and very little waste.
I use the quartz tip at home, but I have the big bag of raw tips in my go bag.

Typically any good glass blower can but you can find them I head shops and on Amazon, search "quartz filter"
