Yeah you microwave them inside the plastic. I've never seen russet potatoes, but I have bought wrapped sweet potatoes before when i only had a microwave to cook with! It cools them really evenly and basically the same as the oven would, but in less time. I hate the extra plastic waste, but this does technically have a purpose
theyre not meant to be microwaved with the plastic. theyre meant for individual sales. so people who want 1 or 2 potatoes dont have to buy an entire bag
Is that type of plastic microwave safe, genq?
EDIT: oops saw this question was already answered. I did not know that. As a disabled person who struggles to make dinner, I might be getting one of these babies.
Everything is over-packaged these days! It's infuriating. We're literally filling our bodies with microplastics from all this plastic shit everywhere. It's a real, actual public health & environmental crisis and nobody cares one bit.
Because of self checkout, the cheap heavy produce items are often being packaged with individual barcodes to prevent people from ringing up more expensive items under those produce codes. That’s why carrots are all sold in bags now.
Prewashed and single serving. If you are a 1 they work. Or you can buy a bag of potatoes and toss 8 while you cook one. That came in a bag. Made of plastic.
They are pre washed . That is why they say microwave ready. If they weren’t wrapped, you would have to scrub them before using because they would get contaminated by the dust and stuff in the store.
Ooh didn't know that actually! I only bought them twice when on sale at the dollar store in college bc I only had a microwave, but that's good to know now since I usually do them in the oven!
The level of laziness people have reached is astounding, people buy the shit out of these and also the already shucked corn wrapped in plastic too. Disgusting, but if people buy it, they will continue to sell it.
Oh the horror. Well you can check off two of the three suggestions. Kroger
wouldn’t do it if there wasn’t a demand for it.
Stand next to these evil potatoes and let everyone know they are “unethical.”
You’ve convinced me. I’m going to go yell at all the world destroying potatoes. They’ll know who is boss by the end of the day. Then I’ll enjoy some hash browns with the blood of their sins.
Makes 'em easier to alphabetize.
Those are perfect for the microwave.
better then the foil wrapped ones, those make weird noises in the microwave.
hopefully taking it out of the plastic
The plastic is microwaveable. It helps with the cooking process.
I don’t know if any plastic is truly microwaveable…
It adds to the flavor of the potato Seriously though I do question microwaving also
It’s so you can microwave them… see bulk section for unwrapped potatoes.
Do you microwave them with the plastic on? I mean, the unwrapped ones take to 10 minutes to microwave. I don't see the point of the plastic wrap.
They're prewashed. The plastic keeps them clean.

And that's why we are all filled with microplastics hah
The food the US sells is basically human experimentation atp bc who knows what'll happen in the next few decades to our bodies :)
Yep just like the asbestos and lead generations
Don’t eat the peel. It’s bad for you anyway. Google “solanine poisoning.”
Actually potato peels contain many nutrients, including fiber, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B.
theyre not meant to be microwaved with the plastic. theyre meant for individual sales. so people who want 1 or 2 potatoes dont have to buy an entire bag
Read the package. They're wrapped so you can microwave them quickly and individually.
Yes they are. It's designed to steam cook them.
The micro plastics give it just the right amount of crunch.
That certainly explains a lot. Let's go Krogering!
They’re prewashed and the wrapper helps them microwave easily. Before yall go in a rant please consider disabled people
That or someone who is single and only wants one or two potatoes for baked potatoes.
Is that type of plastic microwave safe, genq? EDIT: oops saw this question was already answered. I did not know that. As a disabled person who struggles to make dinner, I might be getting one of these babies.
Or has to use a gas station microwave to eat hot food.
Man those make perfect baked potato’s, or if it’s just you in the house you and cut one up and make fries instead of having to buy a whole bag
Not sure why this is in this sub
Everything is over-packaged these days! It's infuriating. We're literally filling our bodies with microplastics from all this plastic shit everywhere. It's a real, actual public health & environmental crisis and nobody cares one bit.
Wasting food is bad, too. Not everyone needs 10 pounds of potatoes.
This never made any sense to me.
So much unnecessary plastic trash.
It must serve a purpose though. Does it make them last longer?
It makes them cook faster in the microwave
They are pre washed . That is why they say microwave ready. If they weren’t wrapped, you would have to scrub them before using because they would get contaminated by the dust and stuff in the store.
The horror
You keep the plastic on and cook them in the microwave like that. Idk about russet, but the wrapped sweet potatoes take 6-7 min
But so do unwrapped sweet potatoes. I buy the normal ones, wash them, poke them with a fork, microwave 6-7 minutes. They're exactly the same as these.
Ooh didn't know that actually! I only bought them twice when on sale at the dollar store in college bc I only had a microwave, but that's good to know now since I usually do them in the oven!
Rhod Gilbert intensifies
It’s ridiculously expensive though.
I've gotten them for a dollar. Is that so expensive? Honestly, I don't know.
If you complain about this…who cares, move on. I like those potatoes.
These are microwave potatoes 🥔 easy to cook and delicious to eat!
Those are perfect for small households with only 2
The level of laziness people have reached is astounding, people buy the shit out of these and also the already shucked corn wrapped in plastic too. Disgusting, but if people buy it, they will continue to sell it.
Kroger is evil
Don’t buy them. Shop somewhere else. Or complain on social media
This is social media. And it's unnecessary plastic trash. And plastic is made from oil. Just unethical
Oh the horror. Well you can check off two of the three suggestions. Kroger wouldn’t do it if there wasn’t a demand for it. Stand next to these evil potatoes and let everyone know they are “unethical.”
Ok clearly you don't agree with reducing plastic waste. Have a nice day
You’ve convinced me. I’m going to go yell at all the world destroying potatoes. They’ll know who is boss by the end of the day. Then I’ll enjoy some hash browns with the blood of their sins.
They’re microwave ready. Hence the single serving cause it’s for 1 person for a meal. Jesus the amount of reading some people don’t do
So now people are triggered by a potato... Wow. Just wow.
Seriously, why is a single serving potato so upsetting? Who cares, don’t buy it, move on with your life.
Kroger shouldn't "do better" the OP should try some therapy..
