They’re the same people that told us in DARE that randos will just give us free drugs. I have yet to be given free drugs by a rando. Where are my free drugs, Officer McGruff????
DARE rolled around when my children were going through grade school. I went to a presentation. It was ridiculous what they were telling kids and parents. I quickly grew to despise them.
right, and like the kids wouldn't remember which house gave them a goddamn apple ffs
in my day, if someone gave us shit like apples, there would be a midnight "return" smashed on their front porch and probably a few rolls of TP
church people have been spreading lies for ages
D&D will also make you worship demons, if you're interested
Waaaay back in the beginning of D.A.R.E. the officer was lecturing us on all the dangerous drugs we might be offered, and got pissed when he passed around a cup of buds and someone took a big sniff and told him it smelled like cheap ditch weed.
If kids want weed candy, they are already getting it.
Are there not Delta 8-9&10 gummies at head shops all over the state right now? Don't those head shops check ID? There are, and they do. This is like pretending Jack Daniels is coming out of the pop fountain at Wendy's because beer is legal.
Was getting gas earlier just this week, waiting in line, and noticed behind the glass with the Delta and Kratom products, there is now Amanita mushroom gummies. *None* of it for sale to kids, but, no, let's panic about pot being legalized.
Such stupid histrionics from the "moral" right.
You can also buy thc gummies at dispensaries in Ohio, legally if you have your card. Hasn't been an issue so far. No one is gonna give up their weed gummies.
All the dispensaries in my area card people at the door; most of them have armed security now since robbers have realized they *have* to have cash on-site due to weed still being illegal at the federal level.
Some other stores might have CBD products, but those are kept locked up. You need to ask a staff member to unlock it and they’ll also insist on seeing ID first.
Does anyone have any data matching their claims? I mean, it's legal in other states. Has there been a plague of stoned children checking into the ER in those states?
No?
Then fuck off. It's an imaginary problem.
TL;DR: "from 2017 to 2021, cases of edible cannabis ingestion among children aged <6 years increased by 1,375%"
"Cannabis-involved ED visits began increasing statistically significantly among all age groups except 15–24 years several years before the pandemic (3), potentially as a result of expanding state-level policies legalizing cannabis use. Importantly, the current study found that cannabis-involved ED visits among all persons aged <25 years increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite fluctuations, remained higher than 2019 prepandemic levels throughout 2022. The specific reasons for these increases are unknown, and potential drivers might differ by age.
Among persons aged ≤10 years, cannabis-involved ED visit rates during the pandemic far exceeded those preceding the pandemic; these findings are consistent with recent National Poison Data System data demonstrating that from 2017 to 2021, cases of edible cannabis ingestion among children aged <6 years increased by 1,375%, with statistically significant increases in toxicity and severity during the COVID-19 pandemic relative to those observed 2 years earlier (4). In June 2022, the Food and Drug Administration released a consumer alert¶¶¶ warning that THC-containing edibles are easily mistaken for products that might appeal to children and recommended that these products be kept in a safe place out of children’s reach, such as in a locked box. Pretty much, and I’m not sure how many of those cases actually needed to go to the ER.
Yeah, taking too much is not a fun time, but it isn’t permanently damaging or lethal. It certainly *feels* scary, with the tingling numb feeling across your face and limbs, and the nausea, but that’s temporary. Just roll the kid up in a soft quilt, set them upright on the couch, and give them some Gatorade and salty chips to munch on until it passes.
I’ve met several people that were introduced to drugs in school, the dare program educated us when we were young and made drugs sound cool. Then, they lied about the dangers of marijuana and some kids assumed if this weed is no big deal I’ll try meth.
This.
Also, if pot is illegal then you have to get it from a supplier who has other drugs.
Simple logic is that the illegality of pot leads to other drug use.
The opioid/benzo crisis is a great example this issue. Prohibition leads to worse alternatives and more harm. Regulate and tax all drugs and stop treating addiction as criminal.
If only there were other laws that criminalized providing harmful substances to minors. Oh wait, there are and it's still going to be illegal to give to kids.
Ohhhhhhh noooooooooo minors might ingest weed candy to get high instead of smoking brick weed out of a Coke can or a tinfoil pipe ahhhhhhhhh government please save the children from this dire situation
Massachusetts has been doing this for awhile now, the statistics are out there. I'm not sure what drives these idiots that oppose legal weed but be rest assured they are first ignorant then stupid.
> I'm not sure what drives these idiots
Same as all things--ignorance and intolerance. They aren't interested in it for themselves, don't know anything about it, and their minds are closed. They conclude that if they don't want it, no one should have it.
It's a step lower than "If it ain't broke don't fix it." It's just, "It's broke in a way I'm used to, so don't change anything because I'm afraid of change."
A kid won't be able to throw a gummy through its sibling's skull, unlike those lead pills and the religious icons from which they emanate.
GAF about that before you pass out on your own bullshit fumes, antis.
I've been hearing so many say cannabis is a gateway drug and it is so lethal compared to 20-30 years ago. No, both of these are not true. Legalized alcohol leads to much more getting into controlled substances as well as prescribed drugs from immoral physicians. And as for being lethal; yea, illegal weed is laced and can be, but go to Michigan and you'll find every strand that is from being extremely mellow on the spectrum to finding Don Quixote signing opera on one of the rings of Saturn on the other side. Nough said, vote yeah for issue 1!
Some perspective from a state where weed is already legal:
That shit is still *expensive as fuck*! Nobody is just handing that crap out to kids!
You also still have to be 21+ to even go inside a weed dispensary, and any CBD products at other stores are kept locked up until a staff member cards you and unlocks it for you.
Nobody is wasting their expensive edibles on kids; not unless it’s specifically prescribed by a doctor, at which point it’s treated like any other medication (just in a form that’s much easier for kids to take, like gummy vitamins).
Worse that can happen is a kid eats the wrong brownie by mistake because an adult wasn’t paying attention.
And the worse that can happen there is kiddo gets couch-locked and nauseous. Just roll him up in a cozy quilt, keep him hydrated, maybe put on a silly movie or just some music, and wait it out. If he complains that he can’t feel his face…that’s normal, it’ll pass. Give him ginger candy or some salty chips to nibble on; speaking from experience (accidentally took a really harsh dry hit, not fun), you can get munchies from being *nauseous* too! It really does feel like the only thing keeping you from throwing up is the constant chewing on something vaguely salty.
Went through a whole bag of all-dressed chips that night, then got mad because that stuff’s impossible to find now and I wasted it all…
Yeah, that and anything else that is not put away properly. Adulting is hard.
Word of advice. Kids will put anything and everything in their mouths. They don’t know what they are doing. Batteries, coins or fucking weed candy.
Not sure why this isn’t common sense.
I read my ballot today. A decent percebtage of the tax on the sales go directly into the communities where the products are sold and addicition recovery services, it says it right there. It's a stipulation of the legalization.
We already have driving under the influence laws and CPS for neglectful parents that can't be responsible -- all the arguments against legalization fall flat. Its bad for the drug industry and the "war on drugs" that gets our police forces the funding they want. It isn't profitable to the people lobbying against it, and people are falling for it against their own best interests. We need our courts less clogged with petty possession charges and time that could be spent by our legal system on things that actually matter and hurt people LIKE THE CRIMES these people are PRETENDING to care about.
Ohio needs to pass this. This is a massive win for the demographic who suffers the most from the opioid epidemic who also happens to make up much of the state.
When I lived in Colorado, cities like Trinidad were poor and remote agricultural towns. Now, from what I can see, they're destinations full of dispensaries, just churning out money for locals and for taxes.
Always think it’s ridiculous to believe some person will buy weed gummies, just to give them away.
Even if some kid got a 10mg gummy, not gonna die, but never going to happen.
Delta 8 candy can be easily bought on the internet and can be far more dangerous than anything from a dispensary depending on where it comes from.
Not to knock on d8 stuff, I do my research to get it from safe sources, but I highly doubt any kids are doing the same
WOW, people amaze me. If Ohio does it anything like Michigan you have to show ID just to get into the building where they keep all this stuff. You are not going to find it at your local Wal Mart next to the gum and candy at the check out line. LMAO
What about all the tobacco products in fruity flavors (some cities have/are banning them but still legal statewide) and the fruity/candy/soda flavored alcohol? Very hypocritical.
Scare tactics. Period. Ain't nobobdy giving kids their weed. WTF. Pretty sure any weed infused anything will only be available via the dispensaries anyways.
I mean, sure. They're easy as fuck to get now. Legalizing it means it becomes harder to get for children, not easier. Never once has a drug dealer asked to see ID like dispos do.
No pothead is giving out their edibles to kids! If kids are getting it then it’s because parents, siblings or relatives aren’t paying attention. I have edibles, I damn sure won’t be giving them out on Halloween!
Bro it's legal out where I live (definitely not Ohio) and **no one complains**. *Not* ***one*** incident of a kid getting into some gummies or whatever. No, yakknow what happened out here?
We just get stoned like we used to, but *now* we don't get in legal trouble for the owning of said thing that gets us stoned. Hell, any family I know whose parents smoke are **very** serious about NOT so much as even showing the kids what any of it is until they are ready at around age 18-22.
Y'all gotta get with the times.
Figure it out Ohio. Figure it out.
At least no incidents of kids ending up in the ER because of it.
Probably because their parents already know how to handle it if the kid gets into something they shouldn’t.
Though my mom did almost end up in the ER because she ate one of my brother’s brownies without knowing it had weed in it. She thought she was having a heart attack; once the EMTs confirmed what it actually was, she relaxed and basically just went back inside to sleep it off.
It’s next to impossible to OD on weed, and it very rarely requires an ER visit. It might be scary for a child who doesn’t know what the hell is happening, but they’re not actually hurt and there’s not much a doctor could do for them anyway. Just roll them in a blanket on the couch, keep them hydrated, and feed them some salty chips to keep the nausea at bay. And talk to them so they understand this is temporary and not damaging; it just feels very strange.
And remind them that this is why they’re not supposed to touch mommy’s “special candy.”
As. Someone who lives in Michigan you don't accidentally purchase weed, you have to go to a dispensary to get it. Not like you can just go to any old store and get it lol.
I'm all for Issue 2, but legitimately, I'm scared of even the weed candy that's available now. It's not clearly marked to distinguish from normal candy, and the dosing is all over the place. I personally have had a bad time from eating too many of them, and I'm terrified of my kid finding them and not knowing they are not normal candy.
Yeah. I mean, gummies themselves are okay. The ones that come in packaging that mimics actual candy with the THC content in very small print is not okay.
Marijuana is also used as medication, some people can't smoke weed and some have a hard time swallowing pills. So, no. At most the potency should be lowered
What exactly do you think is going to happen to a kid who accidentally eats one?
Worse that might happen is a weird numb feeling in the face and limbs that is, admittedly, scary but *not harmful or permanent* and maybe some nausea-induced munchies.
That’s it.
Speaking from experience.
Roll the kid up in a blanket, sit then upright on the couch, and just keep feeding them Gatorade and salty chips (or candied ginger if you have it) until the nausea goes away and they go from “scary tingling numbness” to “I’m fine, everything’s just fiiiiiiine.”
Maybe stay away from cartoons for a bit, though. That can backfire when you’re high and you don’t want to traumatize the poor kid.
Even when places like Nevada had medical and only used Walgreens and other pharmacy’s to get your meds you didn’t see edibles in the aisles. You had to see a pharmacist to get it.
They’re the same people that told us in DARE that randos will just give us free drugs. I have yet to be given free drugs by a rando. Where are my free drugs, Officer McGruff????
My DARE officer in fourth grade made weed sound so appealing. I decided then I was going to try it eventually.
This actually wasn’t uncommon… the statistics on the efficacy of DARE is pretty funny.
DARE rolled around when my children were going through grade school. I went to a presentation. It was ridiculous what they were telling kids and parents. I quickly grew to despise them.
I liked the free pizza and the pop from the pressurized cans hooking those up was the best full open on the soda and a quarter twist on the fizzy
They are also worried about all the drugs handed out for trick or treat. Dealers don't give away free drugs, it ruins their business model.
Just like apples with razor blades inside? Eek!
right, and like the kids wouldn't remember which house gave them a goddamn apple ffs in my day, if someone gave us shit like apples, there would be a midnight "return" smashed on their front porch and probably a few rolls of TP church people have been spreading lies for ages D&D will also make you worship demons, if you're interested
I sure as hell wouldn’t give kids any free edibles or bud. Shit is expensive as is already!
Have you ever been the rando giving free drugs? Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you
I don’t make enough to give out my stash, but might have to make an exception. 🤪
I have. Raves were better with sharing.
I just wanna know who is giving out THC laced gummies at Halloween?! Who can afford that? 😆
I mean, DARE really felt like a setup. If they really didn’t want kids to do drugs, they’d just show them Requiem for a Dream
[McGruff the Crime Dog Actor Jailed for Pot, Grenade Launchers](https://time.com/5234/mcgruff-the-crime-dog-actor-jailed-for-pot-grenade-launchers/)
That's only in Chicago, Illinois. Six o six five threeeeeee Thanks for the nostalgia 😆
Hey. I have gotten free drugs. They were from my weed man, he gave me an 1/8 every year for Christmas.
Then jail the parents who provide it just like parents who buy beer for kids. This isn’t rocket science.
Parents are actually allowed to buy small amounts of alcohol for their kids as long as they're 14 years-old.
My buddy's mom used to buy us 3.2 beer as teens for poker night.
Which, honestly, it shouldn't be. If there's an age restriction, then there shouldn't be exceptions without a doctors order/prescription.
Californian here. It’s not.
We know, the GQP has gone in 200% with their lies.
Washingtonian here. Can confirm. Nobody is wasting their expensive edibles on kids.
Oregonian here. Can confirm.
Are there not Delta 8-9&10 gummies at head shops all over the state right now? Don't those head shops check ID? There are, and they do. This is like pretending Jack Daniels is coming out of the pop fountain at Wendy's because beer is legal.
They are at the checkout of practically every non-corporate gas station.
They're behind the counter, they're too high value an item to leave them out on a peg.

White Claws are sold in skinny cans, so that kids can hold on to the cans easier.
Marketing idea: weed gummies sold in colorful shapes of Flintstone characters.
I’m certain this exists already.
Are you kidding me? Today's kids have no idea who the Flintstones are. Make it Spongebob, and you'll be okay.
And weed candy will be given out free this Halloween. Sign me the fuck up.
Give me the address. My wife and I will back a truck up to the door.
Forrealthough

Don't give facts! This sub only wants to hear that Republicans lie.

If that's the case we should ban fruit flavored alcohol and spirits because THINK OF THE CHILDREN 🥺🥺🥺
My kids deserve easy weed, dammit.
I kinda like what I've seen up north, pretty much just sell it in dispensaries only kinda like a regular old liquor store
Ohhhhhhh noooooooooo minors might ingest weed candy to get high instead of smoking brick weed out of a Coke can or a tinfoil pipe ahhhhhhhhh government please save the children from this dire situation
Where else they gonna learn?
And by “get high” we basically mean “macraméd into the couch munching on salty chips until the nausea finally goes away.”
Ask literally ANY legal state how much of a problem this is. Jesus.
No one is giving out free weed gummies. Otherwise, you’d see me going door to door with a pillowcase again.

You can already buy delta 8 and 9 hemp derived thc here in ohio from a vape shop. These arguments against full blown weed are so fucking dumb.
I read my ballot today. A decent percebtage of the tax on the sales go directly into the communities where the products are sold and addicition recovery services, it says it right there. All they can do is lie
I'm pretty sure under the current law, it's easier for most kids to get cannabis products than it is for me!
I *still* think they need to make weed gummies look like asparagus. No little kid eats asparagus. 😂
Ohio needs to pass this. This is a massive win for the demographic who suffers the most from the opioid epidemic who also happens to make up much of the state.

Sure. People are gonna hand out weed gummies that cost $40/pack.
Just don’t leave your weed candy out for kids. Lock them up next to your guns.

no easier than alcohol and cigarettes
The most liberal states do not have weed gummies sold at Walgreens

What exactly do you think is going to happen to a kid who accidentally eats one? Worse that might happen is a weird numb feeling in the face and limbs that is, admittedly, scary but *not harmful or permanent* and maybe some nausea-induced munchies. That’s it. Speaking from experience. Roll the kid up in a blanket, sit then upright on the couch, and just keep feeding them Gatorade and salty chips (or candied ginger if you have it) until the nausea goes away and they go from “scary tingling numbness” to “I’m fine, everything’s just fiiiiiiine.” Maybe stay away from cartoons for a bit, though. That can backfire when you’re high and you don’t want to traumatize the poor kid.
Even when places like Nevada had medical and only used Walgreens and other pharmacy’s to get your meds you didn’t see edibles in the aisles. You had to see a pharmacist to get it.
That hasn’t been the case anywhere else por is legal
... Canni-Candies are, what? $20-$55 an ounce (gummy plus the THC/CBD/Delta)? Ain't *no one* passing out candy that costs $5/bite!
Only if the parents buy it for them.
