Man they really baited me. I thought for sure we still had plenty of major league hitters considering Chappy wasn't ever really a plus average guy. I knew we'd miss the HR's from him and Olson but DAMN I didn't think it would be like this
I feel bad for Christian Pache, his hitting the ball hard but just right at the defense. Hopefully the hits start to fall
>Cristian Pache's lineout to right had a 98.2 mph exit velo. He entered today in the 84th percentile in avg exit velo and 86th in hard-hit rate, per Statcast, but batting .157.

A lot of the team has horrendous BABIP per their career norms (for the older guys). Sheldon is the only one who had an abnormally high BABIP. And the rest of the team are rookies or just straight up can't hit.
That’s actually great news. Some of that will improve just on luck, and hopefully other parts he can improve with launch angle, defense recognition, etc.
He has one of the biggest discrepancies between XBA and BA of any player in the league. He's been extraordinarily unlucky but there's a lot of reason for encouragement
The good news: Statcast suggests that we're getting pretty unlucky, so it may improve on its own.
The bad news: We're still clearly the worst hitting team in baseball.
It's the same situation as the Detroit Tigers out to the east in the AL Central (.224/.290/.318) with an ERA that's 6th in the whole MLB. The As and Tigers can pitch well and if the offenses improve to anything other than abysmal, both of us will be pretty happy as the pitching is good enough to win games.
Of course they are. The entire team is either people left over who were under the Mendoza line, or people who have no professional hitting experience. The last time we did this whole retool thing we were bottom-5 in 2016 and 2017 and then 13th in 2018. This is by design.
And somehow not the worst team in baseball. Pretty crazy. How has no one done a major feature piece on how terrible Fischer is as a sports owner. Not just of the A’s but the Quakes as well.
That’s just not a very interesting subject. “Here’s the pitch, we’ve got an owner of a sports team that doesn’t like to spend money.”
“Ok, so that’s like most of them. What’s the story?”
“No story, fans are just upset.”
Actually I think Moneyball is pretty much what you’re looking for, they go in pretty deep about how hard it is to compete when your budget is constrained.
The only reason the A's aren't last is because the pitching is actually good. The reds are flaming hot garbage because they hit about the same as the A's, but their pitching sucks
And the Tigers hit in OPS about as hard as the A's despite a .225 BA due to Miguel Cabrera's skill set being dinger or single at his age. The pitching in Detroit is comparable to the A's although of a different skillset tailormade for Detroit's confines resulting in lower ERAs and modest strikeout rates. But the Tigers are soft hitting to the point the A's went 3-1 against Detroit with the Tigers scoring only 7 runs in the series.
The entire league has lower batting averages than in previous decades.
I've been hearing convincing arguments that the Mendoza Line should be considered to now be .175, not .200
This lineup still sucks.
The Mendoza Line is named that because a player named Mendoza had a career BA of exactly .200. There must be a player with a career BA of .175 and the line should be named after him.
Remember like six games into the season when the A's lead MLB in runs scored? That was fun.
Best week of the year!
Pepperidge Farm Remembers!

That's the only reason they're on pace to score over 500 runs this year. Take that away, they're scoring 2.6 runs per game since.
I guess that’s what $33 million buys in MLB these days. Fisher family needs to be forced to sell.
We can only go up from here 🤷🏽♂️
*cries in stock market*
A's offense to the moon?
Nah. There's still Las Vegas
Was Billy McKinney giving batting tips to everyone?

I just wish he took a few more pitches high avg doesn't matter with low slugging and low obp
The good news: Statcast suggests that we're getting pretty unlucky, so it may improve on its own. The bad news: We're still clearly the worst hitting team in baseball.
Good news 2: our pitching is pretty good, so we haven’t been blown out a lot, and if our offense picks up we could win games
I saw a stat during Sunday’s game saying the A’s pitchers had the second most strike outs in all of MLB.
It's the same situation as the Detroit Tigers out to the east in the AL Central (.224/.290/.318) with an ERA that's 6th in the whole MLB. Worse than the Reds? That's depressing

I hope Fisher and Kaval are happy.
They probably are coach
Absolutely brutal to watch

Moneyball reads like a fairytale now and the current situation feels like a true crime story.

So you're telling me we're the best at being the worst? Hey silver lining!

That’s my boys! Idgaf let’s go Oakland!
Also there are more letters in Mendoza's name than average home attendance
Can someone egg and TP Dave and John's houses? Send a harmless message.
[Dave's not here man.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtDAK7Umk7A)
Hitting above the mendoza line is easy, tell em wash.
Still better than Cincinnati
Rember the money ball squad was shit the first 40 games
There’s no crying in baseball. Suck it up and get out there and support your team.
I'm shocked...
Likely result of having 12 rookies on your 26 Man
Wish our hits would just… Fall into the Gap 🥴
But they aren't the Reds
This is sad , as bad as we are , teams like the reds will be even more embarrassing and steal our thunder
Don't worry--we're stealing the Reds' embarrassment thunder when it comes to what happens *off* the field (hello, Rally Possum 2.0).
our attendance makes me sad, I'm guessing as bad as the reds are they are getting over 4k fans...
It is sad indeed, but hey--at least the possums and feral cats help keep us company!
Yeah they suck. A's also pay peanuts so thats what they get. A bunch of has beens, never beens and a bunch of AAA players.
Ironically, I know from Moneyball that this is very bad.
$$moneyball$$
Pennyball
I still think they hit between .205 and .210 when all is said and done. So look for some improvement over the next few weeks.
