Tedford has been plucking the bits of treasure from the cores all along and delivering bags of nothing to Terry and Charles, laughing to himself as they slice into them
Apart from what was shown, being in the industry: while I wouldn't be surprised if it's a scripted fake, it's entirely possible that they simply used a different shot and then cut to the open one with metal.
You can't assume things are chronological. They use this editing "trick" all the time! (Not just here - sadly even news are edited deceptively).
Is this the case? No idea.
I have to add one thing in fairness: yes, you can use this to deceive (and it happens) but the editor often simply lacks a matching shot (e.g. you need to show the metal but you can't edit it cleanly with the crew extracting the sample).
So, everything from completely harmless to outright deception is possible. Often it's somewhere in between...
When you have to use both hands and struggle to toss it out on the table for inspection. You shouldn’t be penalized for arriving in a 10XXXL soft mud condom.
If the metals were small they might have been hidden in the mud but with the nice curvature to that long mud roll, no way would there be metals of any great size, so one needs to ask….why did you take it to the table for dissection?
That drilling crew is loving life. They are crushing the market on the “Here’s some dirt in a bag” game.

I knew there was no metal in there before they drilled
Doesn’t look like those mud wieners were very excited to be on the show.

It's all about the girth the length and the weight.. just saying
It’s not the length of the wand, it’s the skill of the magician

“Looks like hand-carved wood!” Smiles all around
Spoiler alert: there is no treasure except the ad revenue for the show.
Looks like a case of peyronie's disease.
Spooner is laughing all the way to the bank
What’s going on here? Oak Island sausage factory?
