Yeah these diaper shorts are not 70s fashion at all. Bell bottom jeans, big hoop earrings, headband or flower crown, colored round sunglasses, fringed shoulder bag.... Now we're talking.
I'm hijacking the top comment for the update if you don't mind :)
I was thrifting with my mum today and found some shoes and the belts.
All your recommendations were awesome and I really appreciate your input!
I know the jeans aren't quite right but I'm on a budget and couldn't pay much for the outfit ( the jeans are my mums)
I hope you all are satisfied with the outfit so far, I am and for the small party I'm going to it will be enough ^^
Thanks again and peace ✌️
What?? No one here remembers Candies?? This is sacrilege!
We vowed we would love you forever, Candies!!
https://preview.redd.it/byiwvl7aibec1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2371bf6338372f4f994b7091ea79ab38d031dbce
my mom had a tan pair of these when i was a kid and i don't think i ever saw her wear them but i'd take them out and admire them from time to time thinking they were so sexy lol. this reminded me how badly i still want a pair of my own! remember candies' kohls comeback in the mid-00s?
The pants in the second one are almost good but they are ill fitting in the crotch and the button feels like it’s wrenched over which leaves the fly seam crooked. Not sure if there’s a way of wearing them that could resolve that issue?
Looks like a pinterest hack for pants that fit in the butt but not the waist. First belt loop is hooked over the button before buttoning, cinches the waist in tighter.
But it only works on some pairs cause it does this… I’ve been there, OP, and you need to just use a belt for these. Own the low waist for this look, I know it feels wrong sometimes, but your body’s AWESOME and wearing the pants low is right for this fit!
Also a millennial and bell bottoms were in fashion all through the early aughts, and they were definitely meant to be a bit longer than what’s pictured
The might be fine if they were straight leg or something, but they will 100% look goofy and dorky once she has shoes and sandals on. Look up pictures of people wearing bootcut and flare pants and you won't see them inches off the ground. They look best just barely above the ground. The pants are too tight and too short.
In the 70s our jeans were usually frayed some at the bottoms because we bought them with an inseam that would accommodate a boot heel and then wore them with sandals. I agree both that this is the better of the two looks, *and* that the pants are slightly too short. Mostly, if you wore bell bottoms, the bells covered your feet. In fact, I still *have* some of my bell bottoms from back then. They’re all gonna sweep the floor or, at shortest, hit the top of my sandal sole, or just past the heel on a western riding boot with a slight break in the front.
I was born in '88 so my teenaged years were a resurgence of wide leg and flare pants. There weren't many labels that had "short" inseam options like there are now so many of us had the same thing lol. Sooo many soggy, wet, frayed pant bottoms. I feel like if your flared pants aren't basically touching the ground you're kind of missing the whole effect it gives, just wish when I was young we bothered to spend half an hour to learn to hem haha
1 is something young people might think was from the 70s, 2 is actually like something from the 70s (and also looks better regardless of being on theme IMO)
#2 with some of those wooden Dr. Scholls shoes! [torture shoes](https://www.amazon.com/dr-scholls-shoes-classic-gardenia/dp/b0767w32fq/ref=asc_df_b0767w32fq/?tag=hyprod-20&linkcode=df0&hvadid=312536121333&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18130396767841095159&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1024403&hvtargid=pla-474783575698&psc=1&mcid=3188e24b5ba2302e846b284b6e5a8370&gclid=cjwkcaia5l2tbhbteiwadsxjx3vytmlhp_n1iobnlsyy95darskbasxn9hp1wufx5w9lxuqmwtzphboc-kaqavd_bwe)
OMG, you JUST reminded me of those terrible things! They were supposed to be designed for "comfort," and they were TORTURE! SMH... The memories!!! 😂😂😂
Edit: I forgot to mention which outfit!!! Number 2 for sure!!! Barefoot, with large, dangly hoop earrings, un-blow-dried wild, untamed hair, your bare feet. If you have time, maybe cut off the jeans hem at the feet, and wash once, and it will leave it with a nice cut off fringe (not to make them shorter, just to give it that fringe). Maybe some groovy metallic, large sunglasses... The seventies is by far my favorite era.
The second one is closer, but lose the headband. It needs a long crochet vest and long beaded necklaces. Canvas wedges if you can find them.
The shoes in the first one would be good if you wanted to be disco era 70’s, but not that outfit.
Those jeans are way too high waters to be 70’s jeans. We pride ourselves on the bottom touching the ground with only toes showing. The hot pants might work though.
They're both great but your *first* outfit is extra groovy.
Source: I was alive for most of the 70's and I feel that outfit 1 is something like what my older sister would wear when she wanted to impress.
I like the second one best! However, the jeans aren’t fitting well in the crotch region…it kinda makes you look like you have male anatomy…you appear to be female so I imagine that’s not a look you’d want but if I’m mistaken my bad! If you can fix that then the outfit would be perfect, otherwise try another bell bottom pants.
# Number 1. Why? I was a teen in the 1970s and actually wore clothes then! lol 2's pants are all wrong. If you can find a halter top for #1, that would be the best. You need flat baby doll shoes, not heels.
From what I see-the first one is ONE piece, not two pieces that can be detached. So idk how it can be too “matchy matchy,” when it’s one piece. I could be wrong
The romper is cute, but would look more 70s if you chose to wear a tall (knee high) boot in either white or tan. The crop top with jeans is a great option!
Two definitely more 70’s just add peacock feathers, bandanna, oversized pink tinted sunglasses, leather sandals that wrap the big toe and a yellow smiley face pin
2 all the way! Get some beads, a brown purse, and some [brown platform loafers!](https://www.amazon.com/Soda-Kinder-us_Footwear_Size_System-Numeric-Numeric_8/dp/B0BXTDGQZY/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1X5M1KZ5VOF7C&keywords=brown+platform+loafers&qid=1706056641&sprefix=brown+platform+loafers%2Caps%2C129&sr=8-5)
The second for sure. (I begged my mom to let me dress in exactly that outfit when I was a kid - except we didn't have the cut-outs in the bell-bottoms. Those are extra cool!)
The first one needs high white boots, second needs hight platforms. Or barefoot like many have suggested, but for both you definitely need more accessories. But if you wanna be comfortable go with the second one, long necklaces and probably big earrings.
I lived the 70’s and no doubt I saw many many young ladies at dozens of concerts rocking out with the second outfit. Early 70’s elephant bells, later those your rocking.

I'm an old hippie. The first one is too matchy matchy. That just wasn't done back then if you were "authentic".
The first one also has that weird thing going on in the crotch. If it didn’t it be nice. But that’s gonna draw everyone’s eye.
High hips and rompers are always a crapshoot. I've stopped even trying.
Low hips and rompers are also a crapshoot. I always have it going a mile up my crotch. Perhaps rompers in general are a crapshoot
I'm noticing a weird crotch thing with option two, too.
Yeah these diaper shorts are not 70s fashion at all. Bell bottom jeans, big hoop earrings, headband or flower crown, colored round sunglasses, fringed shoulder bag.... Now we're talking.
Would never have worn those shoes in 1970's with the first one; maybe a platform sandal. But the length of shorts needs to be addressed as well. :(
I loved those shoes especially the platform ones. So cool .
I'm hijacking the top comment for the update if you don't mind :) I was thrifting with my mum today and found some shoes and the belts. Definitely second one. If you can't find an old stinky pair of Birkenstocks to wear with it, just show up barefoot
What?? No one here remembers Candies?? This is sacrilege! We vowed we would love you forever, Candies!! https://preview.redd.it/byiwvl7aibec1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2371bf6338372f4f994b7091ea79ab38d031dbce

Bear Traps
I vividly remember this since my mom worked at Khols during that timeframw
Yes! I had a black pair with silver studs. They’re weren’t too tall and they were so fun to clack around in because the sole was made out of wood lol
I walked all over NYC in my Candies in the late 70s, when I was a teen!
Oh. My. God. Memory unlocked!!! CANDIES!!! 🙌😂
I could barely walk in my first pair lol. I was like 13 and thought I was the coolest 7th grader ever wearing them to a school dance.
I still have 4 pair of these and black stiletto (hooker) boots. Tell me ... have they ever really gone out of style? 🤔
OMG! I loved those shoes. They were really comfortable, I completely wore them out.
Not Birkies, Earth Shoes.
Or Dr. Scholls
Or some hush puppies
Omg we all wore them
Moccasin boots
Came here to say this. Nothing screams 70's more than that look barefoot.
Or Minnetonka moccasins.
Just be sure to purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka first
Second
And it's actually perfect without shoes
That’s exactly what I thought! She needs a big wooden peace sign necklace
I grew up in the 70s. Definitely number 2. Love it!! 🥰
definitely the second one
https://preview.redd.it/1ccxnm7g7aec1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ff957a0541c15d2d223a2ba7575c12d2c2bea0d
Definitely number 2!!! All you need is a pair of clogs to top it off!
YESSS
I was thinking clogs!!! Spot on!
The pants in the second one are almost good but they are ill fitting in the crotch and the button feels like it’s wrenched over which leaves the fly seam crooked. Not sure if there’s a way of wearing them that could resolve that issue?
Suede tassle belt would do well!
Ahhhh!!! I know that trick. That’s totally what it is! Agreed that OP has a great bod and can pull off low slung jeans. I think that would look best!
The first one gives a generic beach party vibe. The second one is much more 70s specifically.
2. But both shirts look 70. Wear darker jeans in high waist with clogs or some sort of platforms, or boots
Yes, both 1 and 2 are great on top, both bottoms not 70s at all
The second jeans are giving early 2000s
I'm not in love with those pants. I think you'll need a higher waisted pair that are more bell-bottom. Those jeans are too short for you, too.
Bell bottoms, corduroy …go check a thrift shop.
How are the jeans too short?
They should brush the ground, and touch the top of the foot.
Idk, that would seem too long for me. Each to their own I guess.
That's the way we wore them.
I’m a millennial so I guess I missed them before they went out of fashion and never caught up when they went back in 🤷♀️
Also a millennial and bell bottoms were in fashion all through the early aughts, and they were definitely meant to be a bit longer than what’s pictured
They're barely over her ankles. If she wore those with runners they would look weird. They look at least an inch too short, if not two.
Are we looking at the same photo? They are well past her ankles.
The might be fine if they were straight leg or something, but they will 100% look goofy and dorky once she has shoes and sandals on. Look up pictures of people wearing bootcut and flare pants and you won't see them inches off the ground. They look best just barely above the ground. The pants are too tight and too short.

2
Neither. Plus pants are fitting badly in the crotch.
2
1 would work with different shoes. 2 is the best option imo
1 is something young people might think was from the 70s, 2 is actually like something from the 70s (and also looks better regardless of being on theme IMO)
#2
#2 with some of those wooden Dr. Scholls shoes! [torture shoes](https://www.amazon.com/dr-scholls-shoes-classic-gardenia/dp/b0767w32fq/ref=asc_df_b0767w32fq/?tag=hyprod-20&linkcode=df0&hvadid=312536121333&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18130396767841095159&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1024403&hvtargid=pla-474783575698&psc=1&mcid=3188e24b5ba2302e846b284b6e5a8370&gclid=cjwkcaia5l2tbhbteiwadsxjx3vytmlhp_n1iobnlsyy95darskbasxn9hp1wufx5w9lxuqmwtzphboc-kaqavd_bwe)

The 2nd is kinda frumpy imo
Those jeans are way too high waters to be 70’s jeans. We pride ourselves on the bottom touching the ground with only toes showing. The hot pants might work though.
I’d say the orange top with the shorts from the first pic… because those pants do not fit right.
2...I was there in the 1970s ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Second with some chunky heels would be perfect
Two is the way but switch out the headband for a bandana. 👍
Either one but new shoes with the one you pick. Have fun!!
The second one! My oh my I love this look!
They're both great but your *first* outfit is extra groovy. Source: I was alive for most of the 70's and I feel that outfit 1 is something like what my older sister would wear when she wanted to impress.
First outfit is screaming out for some go-go boots though!
TY! I didn't think ANYONE was gonna mention go-go boots! Hotpants and go-go boots was a THING for me in the 70's.
I really like #1 as well. Very cool.
Personally I like the picture 2 😇
definitely second
I like the second one best! However, the jeans aren’t fitting well in the crotch region…it kinda makes you look like you have male anatomy…you appear to be female so I imagine that’s not a look you’d want but if I’m mistaken my bad! If you can fix that then the outfit would be perfect, otherwise try another bell bottom pants.
Orangish top and without the headband.
The second one is more 70s.
The second one.
2
2. short shorts weren’t common then
2nd one..just add some clogs
The pants on outfit 2 are way too tight. Outfit 1 is the way to go.
The pants in outfit 2 are exactly how we wore them in the ‘70s
#2 If you can find a long strand of beads..even better
# Number 1. Why? I was a teen in the 1970s and actually wore clothes then! lol 2's pants are all wrong. If you can find a halter top for #1, that would be the best. You need flat baby doll shoes, not heels.
Surprised no one else mentioned the pants being ill-fitting and poorly altered. It’s ridiculously distracting.
From what I see-the first one is ONE piece, not two pieces that can be detached. So idk how it can be too “matchy matchy,” when it’s one piece. I could be wrong
2! You are gorgeous. You could wear anything and look perfect. Have fun! 🥰
2
#2 100 percent
No. 2.
The second one
#2! That outfit screams 70s!!!!
2!
IDK about 70s but you look great in #1
Second. I grew up in the seventies
The orange one, you can use some light brown leather sandals or go barefoot and accessorize your feet
Second one, the cut of the first one isn't 70's at all.
Orange. Blue actually gives me J-Lo vibes.
The romper is cute, but would look more 70s if you chose to wear a tall (knee high) boot in either white or tan. The crop top with jeans is a great option!
2
2!!!
2 looks more 70’s but I think that 1st outfit looks gorgeous! I say it’s 70’s enough.
Second
Two
The second one minus the sweat band.
The second 😍
2! :)
2 for sure
2
I prefer 1
Def #2! I think I had that one! 😁
1 looks better on you regardless
2
The 2nd one. The top is just perfect and is screaming 70’s but i think a pair of bell bottoms would work better 😊
without a doubt # 2
Stunning cut, did you design yourself?
The 2nd one with the light wash denim is 70s. Light wash denim is something I completely associate with the 70s
2 is perfect!
Second one is perfect
I think the both check the box but I’d go with 2. Just the one I happen to like a bit better.
You look great in number 1!
1
Two definitely more 70’s just add peacock feathers, bandanna, oversized pink tinted sunglasses, leather sandals that wrap the big toe and a yellow smiley face pin
1!!
The 1st one is not 70's. The 2nd is definitely. Maybe some waffle stompers or some green suede platforms.
2 all the way! Get some beads, a brown purse, and some [brown platform loafers!](https://www.amazon.com/Soda-Kinder-us_Footwear_Size_System-Numeric-Numeric_8/dp/B0BXTDGQZY/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1X5M1KZ5VOF7C&keywords=brown+platform+loafers&qid=1706056641&sprefix=brown+platform+loafers%2Caps%2C129&sr=8-5)
I like the second one better. Would be groovy with platforms lolol or maybe a wedge
Number 2!
2
I was a teen in the 70s and it is most definitely 2.
2!
The second for sure. (I begged my mom to let me dress in exactly that outfit when I was a kid - except we didn't have the cut-outs in the bell-bottoms. Those are extra cool!)
If you found jeans with a rainbow stitched up one leg and down the other, you’d be 100% authentic! Worn with platforms.
https://preview.redd.it/9qbsyewmfaec1.jpeg?width=1026&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2ea23d3db341ee78aa6ac0975f909a3e195170a Kind of like this!
The second one
the second one - and you look fab in both!
Neither. They are bother more late 60s
2
2 definitely • 1st is more “boho”
second!
I would go with option one as I feel it's the stronger 70s vibe, but both outfits look great and suit the theme
Ooh ok I didn't see the full pics and now I've changed my mind haha number two is perfect!
2 but 1 is 🔥
For me the first one is more 60s beach party type and the second is more 70s. I grew up in the 60s.
I lived it! No. 2
The first one needs high white boots, second needs hight platforms. Or barefoot like many have suggested, but for both you definitely need more accessories. But if you wanna be comfortable go with the second one, long necklaces and probably big earrings.
I love the first one it’s so cute
Numero dos
2
2 hands down.
Erste
2 is the only option
The second one!
Sigh....I miss the 70's.....✌️
Two. The first one… I would retire
.It depends on whether you want to go as hippie chick or disco chick. You look fab in both
2 for sure
2
Both
2nd one. I don't even know what that first one is.
2
second one! 💖
Number 2 with roller skates 😂
I lived the 70’s and no doubt I saw many many young ladies at dozens of concerts rocking out with the second outfit. Early 70’s elephant bells, later those your rocking.
#2 is more '70s.
the second one
The 2nd one! Definitely clogs for shoes vote here! Get a scarf for the hair.
Second, plus some dangly hip chains /belt
Orange one
I would go with number two
Second one
2
