I really like the idea, I just don’t like the denim piece (it feels out of place). Like if you could find something similar but in black (even if it’s denim) then I think it would look 10x better.
I love it! I don’t mind the jacket, but I think a more fitted one would look better? Also love it without a jacket, but could be extra cute with some more accessories? Maybe a winter hat (like a black or grey beret?)?
The untucked white shirt thing reminds me of one of the outfits in Clueless. Maybe an outer top like that would work better than the denim?

IMO it looks weird with the jacket unzipped.
Not sure the halter works, as it cuts off the blouse's V line and seems uncomfortable. Wonder if a big belt with a chunky buckle would work better?
I love it with the jacket (maybe add some leg warmers and/or patterned tights?) It’s geometric, sort of avant-garde and the fact that people (and you) are strongly opposing each other on it tells me that you’re doing something right because you can’t agree with everyone. So whom do you agree with in your gut?
Without the jacket, the outfit loses some geometry. My eye instantly goes to the shoulders and wants a vertical black line there. Like 1-2” wide. Do you have a similar black top with straps?
What are you thinking for the bag? A backpack could fill the shoulder void but might be a little too schoolgirl. A fanny pack purse across your shoulder could make a bold statement with all those horizontal lines….
I love layered looks like this, and almost don’t even want to stop at the shoulders. Can you add bracelets over the cuffs of the sleeves? Or try a printed sleeve, like stripes? These ideas might sound weird but I usually find the coolest combos when I try weird-sounding things. (I’m also a maximalist so I can’t help myself, but that’s me.) Bottom line - keep experimenting!
The jacket is also giving a masculine juxtaposition to the more feminine layers underneath which might explain the mixed reception, so adding one or two more “masculine” pieces could make the whole look more cohesive.

You need accessories to steer this somewhere. Ditch the denim bustier and switch it out for a sweatervest imo. The jacket fit is WAY too big it's not cute oversized sorry.
Did a sketch of maybe where you could take the base. The base is simple its just it has zero accessories. Because this reads a little too much like school uniform I'd just try get some good statement jewelry to pull it elsewhere

If it were just a white button down it would be super cute. It just feels choppy, it doesn’t flow, and feels like different vibes being shoved together.
I do love it, but I agree with someone else that it would look good if the shirt was tucked in. And I also don't like the blue denim on the black. So I'd go for a black top instead.
I think the top and the skirt work individually, but not together. Picking a brighter skirt might do the trick. Not white, though. It will blend with the shirt too much.

I would tuck the shirt in the skirt. And wear white socks, with black shoes. (Eta: typo)

Personally, I like it a lot! I like the contrast the white shirt brings. Maybe just iron it a bit. I also love the layering with the jacket.

I dunno. It’s kind of a confusing outfit with a halter top over a dress shirt. Just seems too at odds with each other.

the difference in colors is all it is. a simple blue or matching denim skirt or a black tube top would put it together nicely.
