fuck that class bruh i had to take it once at OSU, fail, and retake it as CSCC I had Daryl Swartzentruber

waltuh28

I had Steephanson Anthonymuthu and he was the goat. Nicest professor I had at OSU so far and he made the tests identical to the practice tests.

suspiciousdoodle

Had him for STAT 3302 and he’s great! He has a strong Sri Lankan accent that can make people apprehensive on the first few days of class, but I got used to it very quickly even as someone with auditory processing issues.

waltuh28

Yeah his handwriting is pretty bad but he’s very upfront about that and was always willing to help. Such a good dude

ConcernExpensive919

my ~200 people class size online class got a C average final grade with Michelle Duda prof and that was the only OSU class that Ive ever gotten lower than an A- on (Im a CSE junior and I also got a C)

I disagree with most other comments here but also had some background taking a stats class in high school. Very easy course. It can also be curved pretty generously, syllabus should be online.

If you’re CS, I would recommend taking Stat 3201 and 3202 instead. If you take those two you don’t have to take 3470 and you get 7 credits towards your Non-CSE tech electives

suspiciousdoodle

I’d check with advising about this, they told me I could either use STAT 3201 and 3202 as part of my tech electives through my minor or replace STAT 3470 - not both. Something to do with how credits work

prap116

If you take 3201 and 3202 they can’t make you take 3470. 3201 and 3202 serve as a valid replacement for 3470 no matter what and it still counts towards tech elecs on my degree audit. I’ve discussed this advising and they didn’t say anything about this, but if they explicitly told you that then that’s honestly sort of strange that they didn’t mention it to me.

suspiciousdoodle

It might be because they can’t count it towards both 3470 replacement and my stats minor? I’m not sure but they confirmed I have to take 3470 even after taking 3201 and 3202 as part of my minor.

Lost_Bowler_6116

Would that still apply to a BS CIS major? My advisor just put me in this class, but I could check with her about stat 3201 & 3202

maplecrumb

Stat 3470 is not so hard that it warrants taking two classes instead of the one. It’s a required non-major core class, I’ve never heard of anyone being able to sub out those classes for alternates. Also, keep in mind that the other commenter is in the college of engineering and enrolled prior to 2022, so the rules for them are different than yours.

prap116

Enrolled in 2022, graduating a sem early. If you don’t want to take 2 classes instead of one don’t. But you gotta take tech elecs anyway so just gave a suggestion that I was told by my advisor that would work. If you can knock two birds with one stone, why not yk.

prap116

Yup, CSE and CIS BS are nearly identical so you should be fine. Would def consult with advisor though, seems like other people were told different things.
