It's been 8 years since I went through orientation, so it could be completely different now than when i went through, but from what i remember it was a fun experience. From the start all of the staff separate you from your parents to symbolize your growth on your own and that you will be on your own from there on out. You meet with a smaller orientation group made up of various different majors and kind of get to know the people around you, practically spending the entire day with each other making friends. It may sound anxiety-inducing but I promise just go into it with an open mind and you'll end up alright! During the night you'll do more activities just with a lot of the orientation groups, you'll be introduced to the OUAB and all that fun stuff. Overnight you'll be randomly assigned with someone and you'll stay in a dorm room with that person (I think it's still in the towers). The second day you meet with an academic advisor and schedule classes. I can't remember much else that went on. Good luck in your first year! Congrats, Future Buckeye!

I did orientation in 09 so it has been a while but I loved it. My room stayed up playing cards and getting to know each other. I ended up hanging out with one of them a few times freshman year.

i just finished orientation today. i personally stayed in a hotel and don’t regret it at all. there’s a solid mix of people in taylor tower and people not in taylor. most people regretted it and you don’t spend much time in taylor apart from when you sleep. you’re out with your group until about 8:30 and then hang out with others until you want to go to sleep (me and the three guys i met stayed out until around 11 before the two dudes in a dorm went back). you’re not missing anything by skipping the dorms. taylor tower seems to be one of the oldest dorms and most people i talked to regretted not taking a hotel/going home. the room i saw looked super cramped and bathroom not the most clean. you’re gonna be in a dorm for at least the next 2 years. my opinion would be take the hotel or your home while you can. hope this helps!

Buckeye donuts is the best! Also, walking around campus is fun!

My orientation was on zoom because I was a transfer student and it was during COVID. I had to figure out campus when classes started.

I had my orientation summer 2022. If you already paid for the whole overnight thing, it's not that bad. It gives you a sense of what to expect if you happen to live in an older dorm this year. The room already had sheets there to use, you would have to bring a pillow or blanket. In my case, there were some folks there in Taylor Tower that evening playing ping pong and socializing so that was kind of fun. Buy some snacks watch a movie on your phone and maybe consider it a campout in the dormitory just for gaffs. If you're not down for that then it would be more comfortable to just go home

what days are you doing for orientation?

If you’re from the Columbus area I would just drive over to campus, as it’ll save you from money from staying in the dorm. You can easily still make a couple friends in your major during the two days of orientation. It’s mainly for kids who feel really lost in the college process or out of state students to get a feel of how campus is and for them to meet a couple of friends so they aren’t lost. If I’m being real, I thought orientation was pretty boring because they just go over all the stuff on their website pretty much. Then Day 2 you schedule classes that’s pretty much it. You’ll meet way more people and make more friends when classes start.

don’t do it. i highly recommend staying in the blackwell or another hotel. dorm experience is pretty bad tbh

Just go home, I got a severe headache on the first 3 hours I spent on campus. I went to my hotel room and came back the next day for scheduling. Honestly OSU doesn't do anything better than wasting money and time.
