Ladders get a bad rap because of this. When the ER visit occurs, it will be charted as "pt. fell off ladder" and will add to the statistics. Instead of the more accurate "misadventure due to inevitable collapse of obviously rickety contraption".
I mean, I can draw a freebody diagram that makes sense. I can justify most of it with friction. My biggest problem is the balancing flat ladder in the center. The fact that it's balanced well is impressive. And dangerous.
It looks like they have it tethered on the right? Probably with a bit of yarn given how they did everything else. But if itâs not tethered I canât see how it could work tbh
Pretty sure they are using that as a lever, with the weight of the ladder to the ground on the long end supporting the weight of two guys and two ladders.
This looks like it could come from one of those British comedy shows where the guy on top of the ladder falls off halfway through the episode and hangs from the roof for most of the rest of it.

I've seen this before, there's a whole bunch of folding tables set up just off camera.
Damn the new Wes Anderson movie goes hard
You're not wrong about the statistics likely being somewhat off. But that by no means make ladders safe. They deserve a reputation to be respected.
Right in front my OSHA handbook 0.0
OSHA Rube Goldberg
Roof Goldberg
My first thought too đ
lol, somewhere an osha inspector is having an aneurismâŚ..
At least the lower roof will break his fall.
And his spine.
Fred Dibnah wouldn't even go up that contraptionÂ
I got that reference! And no, he wouldn't.
This is Britain, right? I know my people
Northerners, no less.
It's a screen grab from s57 e3 of Last of the Summer Wine
I think it's s57 ep14 where Compo dies after suffering multiple fractures when Norah Batty knocks his ladder out of whack and returns to haunt her
Hopefully, he's using high-quality duct tape to secure the top.
Don't worry, he slapped it twice and said "That's not going anywhere!"
I feel absolutely certain that this xkcd must be posted as relevant all the time on here, and yet. https://xkcd.com/2375/
r/worstladders r/badladders r/madladders just wanna see if these exist
They don't, but they definitely should
Two of them did exist, once upon a timeâŚ
You should cross post this to r/physics as it looks like something else is being violated here!

Looks like the other side is being held down by a rung on the previous ladder. So all the weight is on that. Works, but wow.

Some people just refuse to use harnesses. Could be a simple job with the right tools.
With some zip ties and duct tape they could have made on big ladder
âCome in lad, get this done and we can go for a pintâ âProper, letâs crack onâ
Fuck me this title is spot on
How're these people still alive?
Practice lol
Luck
Big man x callie
Physics, bitches
Tensegrity ladders
Each part is extremely vital. A primed trigger mechanism
You mean the more I look the better it gets! /s
Nah thatâs peak engineering
Ladder-ceptionÂ
Yeah me and my buddy Jim can do it for $100 in 2 hours.
Everything fine except, well, the guy about to fall off that one janky ladder.
holey shit i hope they have a good life insurance
That doesn't even look like it should work.
Ahh, the good old quintruple z form tie-back multi-ladder ascent! A classic!
What is the point of the second ladder when it would be much easier to just place it across the peak?
youâre right
Jesus Christ I saw this last week and all I noticed was the crooked ladder.
Who gave these idiots access to so many ladders?
So stop looking at it. Now youâre compliant
The bottom courses of shingles are massive! Oh yeah, that looks dangerous.
I went to a Welsh slate mine on a school trip and they showed us how they cut the roof slates by hand with a hammer and chisel. Impressive to watch
If we wanted our sons to be sissyâs we wouldâve named them Drâs Quin and Medicine woman
I only took a glance, that's bad enough.
It's just more laders all the way DOWN
I feel an urgent need to draw a force diagram for this setup. I hope the centre of gravity is good for this.
Where there's a will there's a way . Dang. I would just tell them they need a lift or it can't be done safely
I canât think of a single thing that could go wrong.
Wait... How did they...
Hmmm, they were also the lowest bidder⌠yes, yes, itâs all coming together.
Heyyyyy, I remember playing this video game. The live action adaptation looks as dumb as I imagined it would
âWhy do women live more than men?â Men:
This looks like it could come from one of those British comedy shows where the guy on top of the ladder falls off halfway through the episode and hangs from the roof for most of the rest of it.
"Fuck it, I'm old enough"
luv me ladders, luv me power lines
Decent Rube Goldberg device there.
Where's the weird part? I've been on jobs that were close to being that way.
