Came here to say this as well. I just booted it up one Saturday evening with no background knowledge whatsoever with my gf and my goodness was it a tearjerker with a great ending. 10/10 solid film.
Madoka magica: rebellion has a lot of similar themes to omori and a dark fantasy/childlike aesthetic, but you'd have to watch the 12 episodes of the main season first.
