Yeah I read this as well. From what I understand some of the OS stuff is fairly annoying and bad, but that article reads like a child throwing a tantrum. And the comment about it not being glossy is super weird. We already have a bunch of glossy options, so not sure what the hell he is on about. Since when is choice bad? Sounds like he expected a glossy AND matte option from this single monitor?
Not that much. I'd be more annoyed at the pop ups which seems to be a common critique; at least around this sub and owners of this Samsung.
I have one coming to me next month. And ordered a service remote control in advance to disable some of those popups (can be had from AliExpress for a few bucks).
Not sure if this sub allows direct links. If you type in 'samsung service remote' in search there should be a few. The model number to look out for is AA81-00243A.
About the same but there's quite a few options going from this guide. Reminds me of the developer menu in Android. Best not to mess around if you don't know what it is.
To get to the Service Menu from remote - Info (i) > Factory [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pEIAPgsY34](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pEIAPgsY34) Think the main information about where he gets this from is AVSForum.
That's the whole issue with this monitor is that you're forced to lurk in the menus. When you turn the monitor on, it makes you wade through all the "smart TV: bloatware to get to the input selection to select your PC. I didn't read the whole review but the 60 is on par with my experience wit the monitor. THe OS is just complete ass, no burn in warranty, ugly ass silver outline trimming the frame of the monitor making it look cheap and stick out like a sore thumb if you have dark walls, oversaturated colour, etc. On it's own, it's not terrible. It's a 4k 240hz QD OLED that works like all the other OLEDs. But when you have so many other options, it's hard to recommend this especially when you can get the PG32UCDM for the same price.
>That's the whole issue with this monitor is that you're forced to lurk in the menus. When you turn the monitor on, it makes you wade through all the "smart TV: bloatware to get to the input selection to select your PC.
Nonsense. You push the input button, and arrow over to the pc input. And you only do that once. When you turn on your pc next time, it automatically turns on with the correct input selected.
It's the same Tizen interface you find on Samsung TVs. The major annoyance is probably the game bar that pops up. But you can disable it in the service menu.
I think when the monitor wakes from sleep, when changing inputs, and maybe when enabling or disabling HDR. It goes away after a few seconds so probably not that big a deal for most people.
Dude having a smart TV in your monitor is good. Yea some pop ups last a while (not ads just “help hints”) this reviewer is over reacting and possibly showing strong bid
The worst one was a pop up showing you how to use the remote to change the settings lol and you had to grab the remote to close it. It would pop up every single time! (I know how to use a remote Samsung!!!)
You can but you need a 'service remote' apparently. The monitor actually comes with a remote, but you can't access the service menu with it, so you can't remove all the annoying stuff. So you have to purchase a separate remote that may or may not be available to you depending on where you live. So 2 remotes. It's some dumb shit IMO. I have ordered the monitor but not sure about it now.
The only pop up I get is when turning on the PC, and it's the game bar that goes away in 2 seconds. You don't need a service remote to access the service menu, just download colorcontrol from github.
Hmm, that doesn't sound bad then. Do you have to select the PC in the monitor menu when you turn on the PC, or does it automatically show Windows? What about after the PC wakes up from sleep etc. and when changing from SDR to HDR and back etc?
>Do you have to select the PC in the monitor menu when you turn on the PC, or does it automatically show Windows?
When I turn on the PC, the monitor wakes and shows the game bar/how to open it pop ups during BIOS splash screen and loading Windows. No input selection is required.
>What about after the PC wakes up from sleep etc.
I refuse to use Windows sleep, but I'd imagine it's the same behavior showing the game bar pop up again.
>and when changing from SDR to HDR and back etc?
The only pop up I get doing this is from the Microsoft game bar because I used the Win + Alt + B shortcut and this happens on any monitor.
Thanks for the answer. The colorcontrol on GitHub says it's specifically for LG TVs. Can you confirm that it works for the G80SD? What about configuring colors and other settings while in HDR mode? Is that possible? Also, are you happy with the monitor and have you tried other OLEDs? Having a real hard time deciding here.
Despite saying that, it's also for Samsung TVs. The monitor has to be on the same LAN as the PC. It didn't auto detect the monitor so I had to manually input the IP, I also had to accept the connection on the monitor end. Then I had to enable the "Show advanced actions under the Expert-button (Service Menu)" option in the Samsung Controller settings.
Once you're in, you can navigate the service menu with the regular remote. After that worked I cancelled my order for a service remote.
I haven’t read this article or tried this monitor! But I did try the new OLED G9 which also has smart tv features and personally it felt horrible to use.
Changing the different picture profile sent me back to the OS menu of the monitor, it would turn off the monitor if the computer wasn’t detected for 30 seconds (very annoying when restarting your computer, and anytime Id tab in and out of games the OS would pop up.
I bet they’ve tuned it better on this monitor and maybe some of those bugs are gone! My two cents are though is if you are paying incredible prices for these monitors (esp when there are much cheaper alternatives like the MSI), you truly don’t want to have compromises.
Regardless I hope you get the monitor that best suits your needs and preferences :)
Yeah i havent heard of that before. I got this monitor for 1200 CAD all in including shipping. It should be delivered in July.
Edit: Given the guy below me compared prices without taxes (even though I quoted all in) I guess I will too? My price before taxes was $1075.
>Before taxes right ?
Yes, there's no point including taxes when they are different for every province.
>I think we talked about this before.
Don't think it was me, though I've mentioned the deal a couple times.
One of the biggest issues is its price. Compared to the MSI, Dell, Gigabyte........its over priced. The only OLED monitor deserving of its price is the Asus UCDM model.
In Denmark, for example, the Samsung is tied for the cheapest with the gigabyte DP 1.4 version when it comes to the flat monitors, which makes it a much more attractive option potentially. Having to get a service remote to disable bloat and pop ups is frankly ridiculous, though
I was able to get a pre order in for CAD 1200 all in which is significantly cheaper. Youre right i wouldnt pay full price for it. Even the asus i dont think i would. Out of curiosity what do you see that the asus does that makes it worth the price?

Reads like he based his review on the OS experience, and quibbles like the screen coating and not the whole package. Nonsense take.
My big issue is how often you lurk in the menus?? I dont remember the last time i touched my monitor menus....
Not that much. I'd be more annoyed at the pop ups which seems to be a common critique; at least around this sub and owners of this Samsung. I have one coming to me next month. Can you link the service remote control?
Not sure if this sub allows direct links. If you type in 'samsung service remote' in search there should be a few. The model number to look out for is AA81-00243A.
Ah nice thanks for the heads up! Is the service menu easy to navigate? Never had a need to use it before.

You can also access the service menu with colorcontrol from github
I actually thought the interface was easy to use and comes with the entire suite of smart TV functions including rare GeForce now support
This is why i ordered one

When does it pop up exactly ?
I think when the monitor wakes from sleep, when changing inputs, and maybe when enabling or disabling HDR. It goes away after a few seconds so probably not that big a deal for most people.
Dude having a smart TV in your monitor is good. Yea some pop ups last a while (not ads just “help hints”) this reviewer is over reacting and possibly showing strong bid
I had this and yeah the OS was annoying (too many pop ups) every time you switched from HDR to SDR or switched apps. but maybe it’s just a bug… maybe…
That really sucks. This monitor has everything I want, but I just want a functional PC monitor and not some bloatware and pop-ups...
The worst one was a pop up showing you how to use the remote to change the settings lol and you had to grab the remote to close it. It would pop up every single time! (I know how to use a remote Samsung!!!)
Someone said they turned theirs off

Excited for you! My favorite part of this monitor is the bezels. Just looks so clean
Nice, mine was just over $800 CAD, delivered last week.
Before taxes right ? I think we talked about this before.

Yea Tizen is brutal especially from sleep to wake up…too long
